:09:27. > :09:30.The RMT are not happy, we'll hear from them.
:09:31. > :09:33.First, Leanne Brown, our Business Correspondent
:09:34. > :09:47.This is about who opens and closes the doors. Rail operators want the
:09:48. > :09:52.driver to do it but unions say that is dangerous. It is unsafe and not
:09:53. > :09:56.secure and actually, it is unfair on people who are vulnerable and
:09:57. > :10:00.disabled. A strike is planned in ten days but train operators say driver
:10:01. > :10:06.only trains like this are part of their future. Our plans are in their
:10:07. > :10:09.very infancy of modernisation and were incredibly disappointed that
:10:10. > :10:13.the RMT have taken this premature action. It is an issue that has
:10:14. > :10:18.brought misery to passengers in the south of England for almost a year
:10:19. > :10:22.with strikes almost every month. Hundreds of thousands of passengers
:10:23. > :10:28.have been affected and they've even taken strike action themselves. As
:10:29. > :10:35.things soured further, there were protests outside the Department for
:10:36. > :10:41.Transport. IMDb sorry. The BBC even staged a debate so all sides could
:10:42. > :10:45.thrash it out. As the dispute escalates to the north, there are
:10:46. > :10:48.claims of dirty tricks. Unions say Northern Realtor Liberty put up
:10:49. > :10:51.posters saying the protest was off but Northern Rail admitted it was a
:10:52. > :10:55.mistake saying unfortunately one of our stations displayed the wrong
:10:56. > :11:00.poster which was quickly removed. The fear now the passengers is that
:11:01. > :11:02.the dispute could become as long and bitter as the strikes that have

:11:07. > :11:09.I've been speaking to Micky Thompson from the RMT union, who represent
:11:10. > :11:14.I asked him whether he accepted the apology from Arriva
:11:15. > :11:29.I think it's a bit disheartening that they have taken the action they
:11:30. > :11:33.have, saying strike action was cancelled. Mistakes do happen, don't
:11:34. > :11:38.they? That is what they were saying. I don't know if it was intentional
:11:39. > :11:47.or not. It is about your members jobs or is it about safety? It is
:11:48. > :11:49.both. First of all, the priority of safety for the travelling public and
:11:50. > :11:54.secondly, it is security for employment form an abridged going
:11:55. > :11:57.forward. We have had driverless trains for many years. The real and
:11:58. > :12:02.safety standards board say they are safe. You are backing a loser here?
:12:03. > :12:08.I disagree and if you are offering to that report, but says it can be
:12:09. > :12:12.saved if the guidelines and equipment is put in place. The
:12:13. > :12:16.realities will not back that. The protection of the travelling public
:12:17. > :12:21.is paramount. 70% of our network is covered by conventional King trains.
:12:22. > :12:25.We have robot ticking over people's jobs and who we are having a
:12:26. > :12:29.conversation about the guards on trains. Some of the trains around
:12:30. > :12:35.here are only two carriages long. They still travel over 70 miles an
:12:36. > :12:39.hour and could still be involved in a contingency situation. I am sure
:12:40. > :12:44.your viewers would like to be assured that there is some geometry
:12:45. > :12:49.and that is protecting their lives. You want a southern real type
:12:50. > :12:55.dispute in the North? Now, let's keep it there. I am the lead officer
:12:56. > :12:59.and I have been trying to negotiate with this employer for over two
:13:00. > :13:03.years now and try and find an amicable resolution to this
:13:04. > :13:09.position. The reality is, we're wanting to introduce driver control
:13:10. > :13:13.and if we are trying to reach a common demise and negotiate a
:13:14. > :13:18.settlement with this employer, this employer is not head to consider
:13:19. > :13:22.anything. The public want value for money, do you think travellers would
:13:23. > :13:26.rather have a cheaper train ticket or pay someone and have a guard?
:13:27. > :13:36.That depends on who you ask. We will take a common-sense approach here. I
:13:37. > :13:37.am sure everyone will not mind, knowing they are getting from A to B
:13:38. > :13:46.in a safe manner. This was that everybody 50, 50. Is
:13:47. > :13:50.union right about safety or is the trading company that driver only
:13:51. > :13:51.trains are the future? Who should close the doors? Here's how to get

:14:19. > :14:25.slammed over parking as a 150-year-old Lincoln business
:14:26. > :14:32.says it's closing for good. And the broken bells causing

:15:19. > :15:24.I noticed that you tweeted you watched me while having your tea for

:15:30. > :15:36.Primary school? You had to go and spoil it, didn't you?
:15:37. > :15:40.The headline for tomorrow on it is looking quite cloudy for sure. Rain
:15:41. > :15:48.and Russell at first but largely a try picture. This afternoon it was
:15:49. > :15:51.quite unsettled and that is due to a low pressure but it is starting to
:15:52. > :15:55.clear towards the North. More weather front to come over the
:15:56. > :15:59.weekend so it is looking quite unsettled. This is the satellite
:16:00. > :16:04.picture from earlier, this is the cloud that brought the rain. We can
:16:05. > :16:07.have a look at the graphics for this evening and you can see it is
:16:08. > :16:11.starting to fragment and turn sherry in nature must it will continue to
:16:12. > :16:16.do so through the night and we could still see a couple of heavy
:16:17. > :16:19.outbursts. The cloud will act as a blanket and prevent temperatures
:16:20. > :16:21.from dropping too low. Tomorrow morning, your son will arise at 40
:16:22. > :16:33.in the morning. Tomorrow, it will be a cloudy start.
:16:34. > :16:39.We don't have any frost the concerned with Bill. We will see
:16:40. > :16:43.some drizzle but that will clear, leaving us with a largely dry
:16:44. > :16:47.afternoon. Still quite cloudy but we could see some to brighter spells
:16:48. > :16:55.and temperatures in the sunshine. To respond so we see double figures.
:16:56. > :16:57.The winds should be mostly lied through the course of the day
:16:58. > :17:02.tomorrow and Sunday will be a largely dry stored. We should see

:17:06. > :17:10.south-west, bringing with it, very heavy rain through the course of the
:17:11. > :17:14.day on Sunday. It will get quite blustery as well with temperatures
:17:15. > :17:17.around eight or nine. As we make our way through to next week, we will
:17:18. > :17:31.see changes from day to day. One of Lincoln's oldest family

:18:07. > :18:12.owners say issues around parking in the city centre. If Lincoln City
:18:13. > :18:20.Council actually did have a strategy, I don't think they do, but
:18:21. > :18:24.if they did, it wouldn't look much different from what has happened.
:18:25. > :18:28.Lincoln City Council said they are extremely disappointed to have been
:18:29. > :18:32.given some of the blame for this. They say they are opening a new

:18:48. > :18:53.feels like it's part of Lincoln. I didn't realise. What a shame. This
:18:54. > :18:56.business has been in the same family are former generations so the people
:18:57. > :19:02.most disappointed today are the owners and the start. It just gets
:19:03. > :19:11.to the point where I felt there was no alternative. One has to face the
:19:12. > :19:18.reality of life. At least this way, we will be able to leave with our
