:00:00. > :00:09.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:10. > :00:11.The headlines from us this Friday night: An elderly farmer who shot

:00:12. > :00:14.a convicted burglar he found on his land in the middle of

:00:15. > :00:27.I'm live where villagers are debating how far you can go to

:00:28. > :00:30.defend your land. A man has died and two fire fighters

:00:31. > :00:42.injured after an explosion rips off What looked like something from a

:00:43. > :00:45.gas leak because the fire engulfed the whole flat.

:00:46. > :00:48.On the brink of history - Lincoln City head to London to take

:00:49. > :00:52.on the mighty Arsenal for a place in the FA Cup semifinal.

:00:53. > :01:01.We know it's probably a one in 1000 start -- chance, but we believe.

:01:02. > :01:08.Very confident. I think Lincoln could make it. Everybody is buzzing

:01:09. > :01:12.and it's a miracle come true. Saturday doesn't look bad, but what

:01:13. > :01:17.about Sunday? Join me later to find out.

:01:18. > :01:20.An elderly farmer who shot and injured a man who he believed

:01:21. > :01:23.was attempting to steal diesel from his farm in East Yorkshire has

:01:24. > :01:28.83-year-old Kenneth Hugill fired a double-barrelled

:01:29. > :01:35.shotgun at Richard Stables at the farm near Wilberfoss.

:01:36. > :01:39.Today, a jury took just 24 minutes to decide that his actions

:01:40. > :01:44.were justified and found him not guilty of grievous bodily harm.

:01:45. > :01:46.Our rural affairs correspondent, Linsey Smith, has been

:01:47. > :01:49.following the case and she joins me from Wilberfoss tonight.

:01:50. > :02:07.Well, it was 16 months ago that that incident happened and since it has

:02:08. > :02:12.dominated the life of an elderly couple, Kenneth and Sheila Hugill.

:02:13. > :02:17.They were in bed and at 2am Kenneth heard noises outside. This is a

:02:18. > :02:23.house that's been blighted by raw raw crime. He went downstairs to

:02:24. > :02:26.investigate and took his gun. He said he walked across what he

:02:27. > :02:32.thought was a vehicle without lights on and it started towards him. He

:02:33. > :02:37.was terrified and fired two shots, one into the air and one down the

:02:38. > :02:45.side of the vehicle. Down the side of that vehicle was Richard stables,

:02:46. > :02:48.who said he was there to hunt rabbits with his dog and the shot

:02:49. > :02:52.hit him in the foot. Today outside court the family of this elderly

:02:53. > :02:56.couple criticised the police for what they say was a heavy-handed

:02:57. > :03:00.response. The police have defended their actions and have said it was a

:03:01. > :03:09.can of macro appropriate response given that a firearm was involved.

:03:10. > :03:14.What have local people said tonight? As I said earlier, this is an area

:03:15. > :03:18.that has suffered from rural crime and they are debating how far you

:03:19. > :03:22.can go to defend your land and whether the police should be doing

:03:23. > :03:28.more in this area. I think people should be able to defend their land,

:03:29. > :03:36.absolutely. He didn't use on due pressure. -- on due pressure. He put

:03:37. > :03:40.the other shot into the air to frighten them away. Why can't people

:03:41. > :03:47.keep off other peoples land in the first place and it wouldn't happen.

:03:48. > :03:50.I spoke to Mr Hugill and his sons today and they said they were

:03:51. > :03:55.incredibly disappointed that the CPS decided to bring this case. The CPS

:03:56. > :03:59.have said they thought it was in the public interest considering there

:04:00. > :04:04.was a firearm involved. That's something that will continue to be

:04:05. > :04:17.debated here. Thank you. That will have people talking and we are to

:04:18. > :04:19.get your views. Should people to be able to defend themselves and their

:04:20. > :04:22.property in situations like this and is there enough support for rural

:04:23. > :04:34.communities? This is how to get in touch.

:04:35. > :04:36.A 31-year-old man has died and two fire fighters have been

:04:37. > :04:41.hurt following a fire and explosion in Hull.

:04:42. > :04:44.The emergency services were called in to the house in the north

:04:45. > :04:47.of the city at just after six o'clock this morning and part

:04:48. > :04:49.of Beverley Road was closed during the rush hour.

:04:50. > :04:56.There's not much left of the front of this Victorian terraced house.

:04:57. > :05:01.Some residents say they had a lucky escape.

:05:02. > :05:06.We were literally in front of the property, as it exploded,

:05:07. > :05:12.What looked like something from a gas leak, or something.

:05:13. > :05:15.Because the fire just engulfed the whole flat.

:05:16. > :05:18.Shortly after fire crews arrived, responding to reports of smoke,

:05:19. > :05:24.Two adults and a child had already been rescued,

:05:25. > :05:28.but one man was seriously hurt and died this afternoon.

:05:29. > :05:31.Two fire officers were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

:05:32. > :05:35.I don't know what it was like for the firemen inside.

:05:36. > :05:39.Two of them were really ill on the pavement when they came out

:05:40. > :05:46.I heard an explosion and I looked out of the back bedroom window

:05:47. > :05:50.and like a window had sort of collapsed.

:05:51. > :05:53.There will now be a joint investigation between the police,

:05:54. > :05:55.fire brigade and Northern Gas networks to try and determine

:05:56. > :05:57.the cause of this explosion and that's likely to

:05:58. > :06:01.I've been told if a fire alarm hadn't gone off

:06:02. > :06:03.before the explosion, warning residents of a problem,

:06:04. > :06:07.there may well have been more people hurt.

:06:08. > :06:10.In terms of housekeeping, we would encourage all landlords

:06:11. > :06:13.to make sure they have regular checks in all the utilities,

:06:14. > :06:16.that the fire alarms are working, working smoke detectors and most

:06:17. > :06:20.importantly that residents have a plan, particularly in a building

:06:21. > :06:25.This major road was closed at rush hour this morning.

:06:26. > :06:30.The other properties on the terrace have been deemed safe

:06:31. > :06:43.The focus now will be on finding out how this tragedy happened.

:06:44. > :06:49.The explosion which killed a man in holed early this morning. -- in

:06:50. > :06:50.Hull. Now non-league Lincoln City

:06:51. > :06:54.are just one match away But that match is against

:06:55. > :06:57.Premier League giants Arsenal. The Imps' success so far

:06:58. > :07:00.in the competition has captured the imagination of the footballing

:07:01. > :07:02.world and made stars We'll hear from some of the team's

:07:03. > :07:06.fans later in the programme, but first our sports reporter,

:07:07. > :07:08.Simon Clark, is live Just how significant is this

:07:09. > :07:27.for Lincoln City and their fans? Let me try and put it into context.

:07:28. > :07:33.Lincoln City were created in 1884. That's just 12 years after the

:07:34. > :07:38.formation of the FA Cup itself. Through all of that time, the good

:07:39. > :07:42.times and bad times, they've never reached the quarterfinals until now.

:07:43. > :07:43.To do it as a non-league side is simply astonishing.

:07:44. > :07:47.It put Lincoln City into the quarterfinal of the FA

:07:48. > :07:51.It earned them a match at Arsenal and that's why the world's press

:07:52. > :07:56.The cup run has been masterminded by this man,

:07:57. > :08:01.When we step out at the Emirates on Saturday,

:08:02. > :08:04.we'll have the opportunity, probably, to cause the biggest upset

:08:05. > :08:09.in what is the greatest cup competition in the whole world.

:08:10. > :08:14.All my family are flying over tomorrow night and to have them down

:08:15. > :08:17.to share the occasion with them, my brothers and my son and my

:08:18. > :08:22.After victory over Guiseley in the qualifiers,

:08:23. > :08:24.and Altrincham in round one, here they are beating their first

:08:25. > :08:29.Championship Ipswich were next as Nathan Arnold scored the goal

:08:30. > :08:36.The then Championship leaders, Brighton, were next,

:08:37. > :08:50.And that brings us here to Arsenal's Emirates Stadium

:08:51. > :08:58.The first non-league club to reach this stage for more than a century.

:08:59. > :09:00.This cup run in numbers - look at this.

:09:01. > :09:02.?3 million gross for the Imps so far.

:09:03. > :09:05.53 buses will make their way from Lincoln and there's a football

:09:06. > :09:15.And that will break a record for the highest number of visiting

:09:16. > :09:22.The highest number of visitors - a non-league football side!

:09:23. > :09:27.Dennis Booth played for the club the last time Lincoln enjoyed

:09:28. > :09:32.It was when Graham Taylor led the team to the fourth division

:09:33. > :09:37.title with a record points total in 1976.

:09:38. > :09:42.Dennis thinks this team has eclipsed his.

:09:43. > :09:44.I think you've got to say they've probably achieved more

:09:45. > :09:49.I know they're a big non-league side, but what they've

:09:50. > :09:52.done to get this far, and to beat the sides

:09:53. > :09:54.they have beaten as well, they've not beaten just lower league

:09:55. > :09:56.opposition, they've beaten teams in the Championship.

:09:57. > :10:04.We'd need to get promoted to beat that.

:10:05. > :10:08.There's sure to be nerves as the Imps face

:10:09. > :10:24.We'll see some fans at the Lincoln end in a moment. Here's an advance

:10:25. > :10:31.raiding party! Richard, you have a family connection to announce nor

:10:32. > :10:36.Lincoln game. My great grandad, Andy Gardner, played for Lincoln for

:10:37. > :10:42.about ten years. He was involved in the last time Lincoln beat Arsenal

:10:43. > :10:48.in 1915, a 1-0 win for Lincoln. We've seen the picture of him. A 1-0

:10:49. > :10:57.win for Lincoln. You would like the same. Of course. Quickly onto one of

:10:58. > :11:03.the directors, Clive. Coming from South Africa. What's your emotion

:11:04. > :11:06.coming into this game? What were you thinking on the plane? Unbelievable.

:11:07. > :11:12.Coming to the Emirates wasn't part of the plan at the start of the

:11:13. > :11:18.season. Danny and Niki and the team, miracles are possible at Lincoln

:11:19. > :11:23.City this season. You've surpassed miracle status already. Andrew and

:11:24. > :11:32.Nigel, what's your prediction? We've got to believe we can win, 1-0. 3-1

:11:33. > :11:36.Lincoln. You love the confidence! We'll have more Lincoln City fans

:11:37. > :11:41.for you, but here at the Emirates, history has already been made. First

:11:42. > :11:46.time in the quarterfinals. If they do the unbelievable and win, they

:11:47. > :11:53.are at Wembley! Thank you. We'll have more later in the programme,

:11:54. > :11:55.hearing from fans. Also something a little bit special if you are an

:11:56. > :11:59.Imps fan. Don't go anywhere. Plans have been announced to remove

:12:00. > :12:02.a notorious accident blackspot Work on the ?6 million scheme

:12:03. > :12:06.to redesign the Garrison Road roundabout is expected

:12:07. > :12:08.to begin next year. There have been more than 20

:12:09. > :12:10.accidents on the busy roundabout in recent years,

:12:11. > :12:12.including a fatality The new plans will involve routing

:12:13. > :12:16.the A63 through the centre of the existing roundabout then

:12:17. > :12:20.adding extra lanes to the carriageway and installing

:12:21. > :12:22.new sets of traffic lights in a scheme that it's hoped

:12:23. > :12:37.will be completed by 2020. Terrible, really terrible. Literally

:12:38. > :12:41.half an hour on your journey of the morning. The number of horns that

:12:42. > :12:45.blow, cars on the wrong side blocking the way. Sometimes you are

:12:46. > :12:47.in fear going around that roundabout. People don't use it

:12:48. > :12:49.because it's so dangerous. Certainly a long history

:12:50. > :12:51.of accidents, including an unfortunate fatality a couple

:12:52. > :12:54.of years ago. From a different perspective,

:12:55. > :12:56.if this junction here isn't improved at the same time,

:12:57. > :12:59.or before the Castle Street major improvement takes place,

:13:00. > :13:01.it will become an even A promotional video has been

:13:02. > :13:11.made to encourage people to apply for the role

:13:12. > :13:20.as the new Chief Constable Don't let any preconceived ideas get

:13:21. > :13:25.in the way of your future. The unusual step has

:13:26. > :13:27.been taken by the Police and Crime Commissioner,

:13:28. > :13:29.Keith Hunter, who is urging people to put aside any preconceptions

:13:30. > :13:32.they may have of the area. The position, which commands

:13:33. > :13:35.a salary of up to ?160,000, became available after Justine Curran stood

:13:36. > :13:45.down last month. Still ahead tonight:

:13:46. > :13:48.The team have left already - Lincoln City get ready

:13:49. > :13:59.to make FA Cup history. The Emirates provides the backdrop

:14:00. > :14:02.for the history makers of Lincoln City as they prepare to meet Arsenal

:14:03. > :14:22.in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup. Tonight's photograph of Beverley.

:14:23. > :14:27.Another picture on Monday. Keeley Donovan is back, I hope she brought

:14:28. > :14:34.Peter and nice gift. Show it to me. I am the gift! Quite

:14:35. > :14:38.a few people tweeted me and said I've been away for three weeks and

:14:39. > :14:44.you are still browner than I am. Very predictable.

:14:45. > :14:48.It's worth saying that if you're travelling down to London this

:14:49. > :14:54.weekend, it's going to be really nice weather, and warm. Temperatures

:14:55. > :15:00.of 17 Celsius. Not bad where we are either. We could get 13 or 14

:15:01. > :15:06.Celsius in the Ginczek tomorrow. A lot of cloud around, although there

:15:07. > :15:13.could be some sunshine tomorrow. -- in Lincolnshire tomorrow.

:15:14. > :15:18.Two fronts affecting us. The first will bring heavy rain at first, but

:15:19. > :15:22.in between we should get decent weather. Some high pressure

:15:23. > :15:27.dominating the early parts of next week. A lot of cloud today and it

:15:28. > :15:34.will stay there as we head overnight and into tomorrow. Mild air as well.

:15:35. > :15:40.A few spots of rain showing up on the graphics, but generally dry

:15:41. > :15:45.night, a cloudy night and the night. The cloud insulating the ground.

:15:46. > :15:53.Eight or nine Celsius. The sun will rise at 6:27am. I've been away for

:15:54. > :16:00.three weeks and I've forgotten the high water! In the morning is the

:16:01. > :16:05.best chance of any sunshine. The best will be across parts of

:16:06. > :16:09.Lincolnshire. Generally tomorrow a lot of cloud around with a few spots

:16:10. > :16:15.of light rain threatening from the north. In daylight hours, we should

:16:16. > :16:20.stay largely dry, perhaps a bit cloudy in the afternoon. The rain

:16:21. > :16:28.will probably arrive in the evening. These temperatures could get up to

:16:29. > :16:34.13 or 14 Celsius. A wet start to Sunday, brightening up for a time.

:16:35. > :16:36.Abbey bought me a present just for being on 4-2 days! She has set the

:16:37. > :16:40.bar very high. Have a nice weekend. Trail-blazing women from Hull

:16:41. > :16:43.are being celebrated this weekend in the City of Culture's Women

:16:44. > :16:45.of the World festival. The event, one of a series taking

:16:46. > :16:48.place around the world, has everything from a red carpet

:16:49. > :16:51.film screening and debates to a live performance from Hull actors

:16:52. > :16:55.Maureen Lipman and Lucy Beaumont. Our culture correspondent,

:16:56. > :16:57.Anne-Marie Tasker, has been to see them getting ready

:16:58. > :17:01.for the big event. Kicking off the Women

:17:02. > :17:03.of the World festival, probably Hull's most

:17:04. > :17:10.famous female face. Do you know what the women do in

:17:11. > :17:13.Amsterdam? Maureen Lipman, and Hull

:17:14. > :17:15.comedian Lucy Beaumont, are performing a live episode

:17:16. > :17:28.from their Radio Four series To Hull Everything I see now is very buzzy,

:17:29. > :17:39.I've tripped over the propeller in the city square. The turbine blade.

:17:40. > :17:40.What is that! The good thing is that this city of culture has animated

:17:41. > :17:42.the place. The WOW festival started life

:17:43. > :17:45.in London six years ago and now takes part simultaneously in cities

:17:46. > :17:46.around the world. It debates the issues women face

:17:47. > :17:51.and celebrates high-achieving women. There'll be talks from Hull women

:17:52. > :17:54.like boxing champion Barbara Buttrick, Bake Off winner

:17:55. > :17:56.Nancy Birtwhistle, charity fundraiser the Bee Lady and there'll

:17:57. > :17:59.be celebrations of the first ever And there's cellist

:18:00. > :18:07.Gay Lee Westerhoff, who learnt As part of the group Bond,

:18:08. > :18:16.she had hit records and played with Sting and the Spice Girls,

:18:17. > :18:28.and says being in showbiz can be Basically you have to stand your

:18:29. > :18:32.ground because it isn't easy, you come across a lot of sexism and

:18:33. > :18:37.things in this industry, and how people expect you to be a certain

:18:38. > :18:42.way or dress a certain way. All those cliches. You have to really

:18:43. > :18:47.put your foot down and stamp it hard. I am to be the last Viceroy of

:18:48. > :18:48.India. The weekend's finale is a red carpet

:18:49. > :18:51.screening of the film Viceroy's House and a Q

:18:52. > :18:53.with its director, another woman who's made her way in a career

:18:54. > :19:04.so often dominated by men. The Domesday Book is going to be

:19:05. > :19:10.on display in Lincoln as part of a major exhibition

:19:11. > :19:11.later this year. The country's earliest surviving

:19:12. > :19:13.public record will be in the Magna Carta vault

:19:14. > :19:15.in Lincoln Castle from The document will be on loan

:19:16. > :19:19.from its permanent home It's a document of massive historic

:19:20. > :19:24.significance and it's the first time that it's been exhibited outside

:19:25. > :19:28.of London for 150 years. So this really is a

:19:29. > :19:30.once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and it's incredibly appropriate that

:19:31. > :19:33.it's coming here to Lincoln. Lincoln is one of the great medieval

:19:34. > :19:37.cities, the castle was commissioned by William the Conqueror and it's

:19:38. > :19:41.a fantastic opportunity for Domesday to go on display as part of this

:19:42. > :19:43.exhibition The Domesday book on display from

:19:44. > :19:55.May until September. Many of you have been

:19:56. > :19:57.in touch about last night's The East Yorkshire MP,

:19:58. > :20:01.Sir Greg Knight, said there were too many cycle lanes and they're causing

:20:02. > :20:03.congestion and pollution in our towns and cities by forcing

:20:04. > :20:06.drivers to slow down. Cycling groups disagreed, saying his

:20:07. > :20:11.comments are simply wrong. Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic

:20:12. > :21:00.feels they'll need to win almost half of their remaining games

:21:01. > :21:02.to avoid relegation Speaking ahead of tomorrow's

:21:03. > :21:07.home game with Swansea City, the Swiss-Bosnian was asked

:21:08. > :21:10.if they could afford not to beat one of their relegation

:21:11. > :21:14.rivals this weekend. I don't think we need

:21:15. > :21:16.40 points to stay in We're one point near the 36

:21:17. > :21:27.so we have to take the point. But I wish we can take the three

:21:28. > :21:33.points and I think we're Cleethorpes Town play the first

:21:34. > :21:39.leg of their semifinal Kick-off is at 3pm and you can

:21:40. > :21:47.listen to commentary Back to the FA Cup now,

:21:48. > :21:55.and we've heard what it means to Lincoln City,

:21:56. > :21:58.but what about the thousands of fans who'll be following

:21:59. > :22:02.their progress tomorrow? Gemma Dawson has been speaking

:22:03. > :22:05.to Imps supporters ahead of their historic FA Cup

:22:06. > :22:10.quarterfinal clash with Arsenal. At Sincil Bank this morning,

:22:11. > :22:13.fans watched as players boarded the team bus,

:22:14. > :22:16.ready for one of the biggest games And amongst supporters at

:22:17. > :22:27.the ground, a real sense of belief. I'm feeling very

:22:28. > :22:30.confident, actually. Arsenal are obviously under a lot

:22:31. > :22:35.of pressure at the moment That's it, the players are now

:22:36. > :22:42.on their way with many of the fans getting ready to join them

:22:43. > :22:47.at the Emirates tomorrow. Also heading to London,

:22:48. > :22:51.Michael and his dad Jonathan. They've been spotted at games this
