:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:07. > :00:08.The headlines from us this Wednesday night.

:00:09. > :00:10.The family battling the rare brain disease that

:00:11. > :00:12.killed their mother - four out of seven of her

:00:13. > :00:25.When you tell them about Huntington's they don't know what it

:00:26. > :00:28.is. It is not very nice to have to describe to people.

:00:29. > :00:30.After hospitals lose more than 100 patient referrals,

:00:31. > :00:35.there are claims health bosses tried to keep their mistake quiet.

:00:36. > :00:44.They had been aware of some of these problems since May and June of 2016

:00:45. > :00:46.and clearly that is too long a period of time for patients to be

:00:47. > :00:48.unaware of this issue. The East Yorkshire tennis player

:00:49. > :00:51.Kyle Edmund is threatened with rape and murder on Facebook,

:00:52. > :01:01.after losing to Novac Djokovic. The threats were utterly vile but

:01:02. > :01:06.sadly all too common in this day and age. They are often made by gamblers

:01:07. > :01:08.who have lost money on the outcome of the match.

:01:09. > :01:11.And the actor Colin McFarlane takes on Lincolnshire County Council over

:01:12. > :01:31.Josh Beasley from Bridlington was ten when his mum died

:01:32. > :01:34.Anne Beasley had Huntington's Disease and it destroyed her brain.

:01:35. > :01:37.Her death brought with it a devastating realisation

:01:38. > :01:40.for the family that all of her seven children had a 50-50

:01:41. > :01:49.Last year Josh - who is now 19 - tested positive for Huntington's -

:01:50. > :01:53.as have three of his brothers and sisters.

:01:54. > :01:56.He's now trying to raise money for research into the disease.

:01:57. > :02:02.This is me who has been tested positive, Matthew has

:02:03. > :02:09.When Josh's mum had her seven children she didn't know she had

:02:10. > :02:19.She died aged just 48 and had genetically passed the disease on.

:02:20. > :02:23.Two children are clear, one is still to be tested and four,

:02:24. > :02:31.What I remember, it was when her movement was shaking.

:02:32. > :02:39.It is awful, there's not enough awareness for it, there is no cure.

:02:40. > :02:43.When you tell people, they do not know what it is.

:02:44. > :02:46.It is not nice to have to describe to people that it takes

:02:47. > :02:52.Huntington's disease is an inherited disorder that causes the death

:02:53. > :02:56.The damage to the brain leads to a gradual physical

:02:57. > :03:02.Each person whose parent has Huntington's disease

:03:03. > :03:06.has a 50-50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene responsible.

:03:07. > :03:08.Everyone who inherits the faulty gene will, at some stage,

:03:09. > :03:12.develop the disease - usually between the

:03:13. > :03:28.A lot of these young people are growing up in a family

:03:29. > :03:30.where they have a parent parent with the illness so

:03:31. > :03:33.they're watching something that may happen to them the feature, which is

:03:34. > :03:34.obviously quite a frightening prospect.

:03:35. > :03:37.You can either curl up into a ball or you can just

:03:38. > :03:41.That's what I'm trying to do and raise awareness for the disease.

:03:42. > :03:45.She says the family try to support each other.

:03:46. > :03:47.When I got my results it was such a relief,

:03:48. > :03:49.the straightaway after that

:03:50. > :03:55.That's the only thing you can do but it's always

:03:56. > :04:04.Somebody is always having a difficult time and have all got to

:04:05. > :04:05.try and pull through from each other.

:04:06. > :04:08.But it is really difficult because there's so many with it.

:04:09. > :04:11.And Josh is trying to get on with his life.

:04:12. > :04:12.He starts university next year and is fundraising

:04:13. > :04:18.Earlier I spoke to Josh, and I started by asking

:04:19. > :04:20.when he found out his mother had the disease.

:04:21. > :04:22.All my life she's had the symptoms of Huntingdon's.

:04:23. > :04:25.So I've only really known her since she had the symptoms.

:04:26. > :04:27.I've not known her before she before she

:04:28. > :04:32.How did you cope with losing your mum at the age of

:04:33. > :04:36.Obviously it's an awful thing to have to go through for anyone but

:04:37. > :04:40.I've got a big family and we're close and good friends.

:04:41. > :04:58.You have to be 18 to get your genetic test.

:04:59. > :05:01.I was the mindset of getting tested straightaway just for peace of mind.

:05:02. > :05:03.Did you think that you would end up being positive?

:05:04. > :05:21.It's 50-50, so it could go either way but it just

:05:22. > :05:24.thought I would like the peace of mind to know

:05:25. > :05:27.How have you dealt with knowing that you have

:05:28. > :05:31.Obviously it's an awful thing to have to be told that one

:05:32. > :05:33.day you will suffer something like that

:05:34. > :05:35.but I have a close family and

:05:36. > :05:38.It has made it easier with the fundraising

:05:39. > :05:49.But nobody gives you any sort of time frame?

:05:50. > :05:54.It could be a couple of years down the line at 20 or 40

:05:55. > :06:00.There's no saying when it will be, just one day

:06:01. > :06:04.So you need to live your life to the full?

:06:05. > :06:06.Does it affect you on a daily basis?

:06:07. > :06:08.Obviously everyone has their bad days and it's

:06:09. > :06:12.the same with this, you have days when you think about it more than

:06:13. > :06:16.Some days you just put it to the back of your mind.

:06:17. > :06:17.I know you're doing some fantastic fundraising.

:06:18. > :06:20.You have a big event coming up on the 3rd of June.

:06:21. > :06:24.I'm organising a charity event in Bridlington

:06:25. > :06:29.Will hopefully get the music down there and just raise some money for

:06:30. > :06:36.I wish you well for the third as well.

:06:37. > :06:41.The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that it has received files

:06:42. > :06:45.from eleven police forces, including Lincolnshire,

:06:46. > :06:49.in relation to 2015 General Election campaign expenses.

:06:50. > :06:54.Last year the Lincoln MP Karl McCartney said he had handed

:06:55. > :06:56.over the details of his expenses to the force.

:06:57. > :06:59.The inquiries centre on the Conservative Party's national

:07:00. > :07:04.The CPS will now decide if any charges should be brought.

:07:05. > :07:12.Mr McCartney says he's done nothing wrong.

:07:13. > :07:15.Network Rail says cancellations and delays to Hull services this

:07:16. > :07:17.morning were because of deliberate damage to cables.

:07:18. > :07:20.The company say track-side cable was placed across the tracks

:07:21. > :07:22.at Hessle East Junction and then a train ran it.

:07:23. > :07:28.Hull has been given ?5 million of extra money to help more

:07:29. > :07:32.Yorkshire Cancer Research says the city has a higher than average

:07:33. > :07:39.The funding will help diagnose cancer earlier.

:07:40. > :07:41.Hospital bosses in North Lincolnshire have been accused

:07:42. > :07:43.of hiding the fact they'd lost around one hundred

:07:44. > :07:51.The delay has meant some people may have had to wait months

:07:52. > :07:53.for urgent medical treatment because they were never put

:07:54. > :08:05.Our health correspondent Vicky Johnson reports.

:08:06. > :08:11.When Alison 's dad David had problems with his eye he was

:08:12. > :08:16.referred by his optician is an urgent case to Scunthorpe hospital.

:08:17. > :08:19.That was last April and he has still heard nothing. Yesterday the pain

:08:20. > :08:24.was so bad that Allison taken straight to hospital. They said

:08:25. > :08:28.yesterday was an ulcer behind his eye that could affect his brain. I'm

:08:29. > :08:34.not happy. I am upset to my dad is upset. He is a portly man and he has

:08:35. > :08:44.had to go into hospital which has devastated him today. -- poorly man.

:08:45. > :08:47.His Chevelle is one of several that have gone missing since North

:08:48. > :08:53.Lincolnshire adopted a new system last year. The chairman was invited

:08:54. > :09:02.to the scrutiny committee this morning. Two of those cases were

:09:03. > :09:09.cancer queries and they are in ongoing treatment. Patients are

:09:10. > :09:14.overseen by the GP or dentist and optician. If more specialist care is

:09:15. > :09:17.needed they are referred to a consultant at the hospital. The

:09:18. > :09:21.hospital is then supposed to get in touch with the patient and give them

:09:22. > :09:26.an appointment and take over the care. That is where the problem has

:09:27. > :09:31.happened. The details of at least 100 patients have been lost and

:09:32. > :09:36.never referred. Health bosses were first alerted to the problem last

:09:37. > :09:41.May when this surgery realised more than 50 of the patients had not been

:09:42. > :09:49.referred on. Is there no way a flagging this up? It has also been a

:09:50. > :09:54.puzzle how you can track your parcel to Amazon but you cannot track your

:09:55. > :09:59.patient through the MHS. Managers have chosen not to let other

:10:00. > :10:02.potential patients until now. It sounds like a Disney more about

:10:03. > :10:08.saving face than protecting patients. I am sorry and we have

:10:09. > :10:12.apologised to the public that this has raised its head is a problem. It

:10:13. > :10:19.generally hasn't been about saving face and it has been about being

:10:20. > :10:24.trying to get a definitive answer to a problem with patients who were not

:10:25. > :10:29.registered and have got the patient they deserve. The trust deals with

:10:30. > :10:35.around 90,000 patient referrals per year and most go without a hitch. As

:10:36. > :10:41.Allison Parks had dads hospital bag it has emerged that at least another

:10:42. > :10:47.50 patients have today contacted the hospital 's helpline about their Mr

:10:48. > :10:52.referrals. -- they're missed referrals.

:10:53. > :10:54.The woman who helped make this information public

:10:55. > :10:57.is Councillor Holly Mumby-Croft, who leads the North Linolnshire

:10:58. > :11:05.We saw her briefly in Vicky's report.

:11:06. > :11:08.I asked her why we were only finding out about these

:11:09. > :11:12.Clearly the trust made mention today in the health scrutiny meeting

:11:13. > :11:16.that they had been aware some of these

:11:17. > :11:22.problems since May/June 2016 and clearly that is too long

:11:23. > :11:26.a period of time for patients to be unaware of this issue.

:11:27. > :11:28.When did you know and would you consider yourself the

:11:29. > :11:33.I was made aware several days before the 6th of

:11:34. > :11:43.I was fully briefed at that point and my

:11:44. > :11:46.media release would happen on the 6th of March.

:11:47. > :11:48.When that didn't happen I began immediately to ask

:11:49. > :11:51.I then took the decision on the Wednesday, that

:11:52. > :11:53.would be two days after that, to invoke

:11:54. > :11:54.legislation to require the

:11:55. > :11:58.chief executive of the Northern Lincs and Goole Hospital

:11:59. > :12:05.Trust and chief officer of the commissioning group

:12:06. > :12:08.-- clinical commissioning group to attend scrutiny because I was

:12:09. > :12:10.sufficiently concerned that this needs to be discussed and patience

:12:11. > :12:13.needed to be represented and that will important questions need to be

:12:14. > :12:16.asked of these people and that that needed to be in a public

:12:17. > :12:21.Were it not for you forcing that I am then maybe they wouldn't have

:12:22. > :12:36.It is very serious. I am not in a position to comment on when or if

:12:37. > :12:41.the trust would have made this public. That clearly we as a health

:12:42. > :12:45.scrutiny panel took this very seriously, we took it seriously

:12:46. > :12:50.enough that for the first time we invoked the legislation and required

:12:51. > :12:53.their attendance. If the trust knows about something like this so serious

:12:54. > :12:59.possibly going back a year and they don't do anything about it until you

:13:00. > :13:04.as a whistle-blower forced their hand, what trust can people have in

:13:05. > :13:12.the trust? Clearly people's trust and concern will be damaged at this

:13:13. > :13:17.point. I think that it's logical assumption. It is our job as a

:13:18. > :13:20.health scrutiny panel to really strengthen the voice of our

:13:21. > :13:25.residents and our patients and to do everything we can to work with the

:13:26. > :13:29.trust and understand what has happened and get those reassurances

:13:30. > :13:33.that it can never, ever happen to patients again and to continue to be

:13:34. > :13:38.the voice of patients and hold the trust to account.

:13:39. > :13:45.You have heard the story. If you have been affected by this and maybe

:13:46. > :13:48.have been waiting for an appointment, what do you think of

:13:49. > :13:54.how this is being handled by their health bosses and the trust? What

:13:55. > :13:58.experience have you had? Have they already been in touch? Have you had

:13:59. > :14:00.any indication that you're one of the people who has not had a

:14:01. > :14:18.referral? Still ahead tonight:

:14:19. > :14:20.The East Yorkshire tennis player Kyle Edmund is threatened with rape

:14:21. > :14:22.and murder on Facebook, And the actor Colin McFarlane takes

:14:23. > :14:31.on Lincolnshire County Council over Phil Elridge took this photo

:14:32. > :14:53.of Woodhall Spa at Pet Wood Hotel. He really is off all this week and I

:14:54. > :14:58.gather you are doing his radio show this week. He is a skiver. I think

:14:59. > :15:08.maybe the award has gone to his head. Nobody is complaining. Nice to

:15:09. > :15:11.have you here. We got up to 16 degrees and quite a few spots in

:15:12. > :15:16.East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. At the changes for tomorrow. It will

:15:17. > :15:21.not be as warm as the. More applied around. Not a bad day. Things will

:15:22. > :15:26.turn unsettled for Friday and the weekend. High has dominated our

:15:27. > :15:31.weather but lots of these areas of low pressure. Lots of France heading

:15:32. > :15:35.our way for Friday. Isa buyers tightly packed so some blustery

:15:36. > :15:40.conditions as well. It has been lovely out there, barely a cloud in

:15:41. > :15:45.the sky which helped attempt just get up to the mid teens. It will be

:15:46. > :15:49.a fine evening with long clear spells and remaining dry and fine

:15:50. > :15:54.overnight. We might see a little more cloud creep towards the end of

:15:55. > :16:01.the night. Temperatures falling back to around 7 degrees are a degrees. A

:16:02. > :16:03.light breeze. The sun will rise at around quarter past six in the

:16:04. > :16:10.morning and set at seven minutes past six in the evening. We will

:16:11. > :16:13.start the day was spells of sunshine and through the morning we will have

:16:14. > :16:17.the best of the sunny spells. Gradually throughout the day we will

:16:18. > :16:22.see a bit more cloud. Tomorrow will be a little more cloudy and breezy

:16:23. > :16:25.and more cool as well. The rain from the North will stay to the north of

:16:26. > :16:32.us until tomorrow evening and then will be very light and patchy when

:16:33. > :16:37.it arrives. 16 degrees today. It will be cooler tomorrow at around 11

:16:38. > :16:41.degrees 12 degrees. A cool start of the day with the touch of frost and

:16:42. > :16:45.places on Friday. A windy day developing with Wayne for the

:16:46. > :16:49.afternoon. Not a complete wash-out for the weekend. There will be some

:16:50. > :17:02.spells of wet and windy weather and really quite blustery throughout.

:17:03. > :17:04.The tennis player Kyle Edmund has revealed he's been threatened

:17:05. > :17:06.with murder and rape in messages on social media.

:17:07. > :17:10.The 46th ranked player in the world - who is from East Yorkshire -

:17:11. > :17:12.highlighted the posts on his Facebook page

:17:13. > :17:14.after being knocked out of a tournament in California.

:17:15. > :17:16.Commentators says it has become common for sport stars

:17:17. > :17:20.Sarah Walton has more on this, and just a warning there is some

:17:21. > :17:27.Kyle Edmund is seen as one of tennis's up and coming stars.

:17:28. > :17:29.But world number two Novak Djokovic proved to be too much

:17:30. > :17:32.for him at the weekend, and he was knocked out

:17:33. > :17:35.But in the hours that followed his defeat,

:17:36. > :17:37.Kyle says he received abusive messages on Facebook.

:17:38. > :17:39.The posts include threats of violent murder and rape

:17:40. > :17:46.as well as derogatory remarks about his appearance.

:17:47. > :17:48.And commentators say other British players have been

:17:49. > :17:52.The threats made against Kyle Edmund were utterly vile but sadly all too

:17:53. > :17:56.They are often made by gamblers who have lost money

:17:57. > :18:00.Johanna Konta has spoken about it in the past,

:18:01. > :18:03.She has talked about the death threats, she has received

:18:04. > :18:05.and the threats made against her own family.

:18:06. > :18:12.Sadly, for women, it's often far worse than it is for men,

:18:13. > :18:13.as was the case here with Kyle Edmund.

:18:14. > :18:15.Many threats contain a hint of sexual violence.

:18:16. > :18:18.Even Wimbledon winner Andy Murray has described abuse he received

:18:19. > :18:22.online as vile and no longer uses Twitter on a regular basis.

:18:23. > :18:25.The Lawn Tennis Association, the sport's governing body

:18:26. > :18:28."Professional players are responsible for reporting acts

:18:29. > :18:32.of online bullying to the respective social media outlets.

:18:33. > :18:35.But online threats are illegal and those targeted can

:18:36. > :18:51.The Crown Prosecution Service recognises is a very serious

:18:52. > :18:55.criminal offence. Last year severe penalties were increased. The

:18:56. > :19:01.maximum sentence has gone up and is now in excess of two years. The last

:19:02. > :19:02.year so there has been a tenfold increase of police prosecuting

:19:03. > :19:06.exactly the of abuse. Kyle told Look North this morning

:19:07. > :19:10.that he won't comment any further as he has no time to spend

:19:11. > :19:12.on negative issues. He's now focusing on his next

:19:13. > :19:14.tournament in Miami People living at the Humberston

:19:15. > :19:22.Fitties chalet park near Cleethorpes say they're being kept in the dark

:19:23. > :19:25.over council plans This afternoon North East

:19:26. > :19:28.Lincolnshire Council agreed to start negotiations

:19:29. > :19:29.with an unnamed bidder. But chalet owners, who put

:19:30. > :19:50.forward their own community bid, Lincolnshire County Council has been

:19:51. > :19:57.told it must reconsider its decision to switch off streetlights overnight

:19:58. > :20:05.to save money. I have been speaking to the Hollywood actor Colin

:20:06. > :20:08.McFarlane and the crystal responsible to -- councillor

:20:09. > :20:11.responsible for the switch. Last year - people in Lincoln

:20:12. > :20:14.started to see their streetlights being switched off -

:20:15. > :20:17.at night... Then after a campaign

:20:18. > :20:20.by local residents - the lights were kept

:20:21. > :20:22.on until midnight. Across Lincolnshire -

:20:23. > :20:32.42,000 street lights are now switched off at night -

:20:33. > :20:42.with 1,000 permanently switched off...It's designed

:20:43. > :20:45.to save the County Council But it's not switched-off

:20:46. > :20:47.the criticism...Right across the county -

:20:48. > :20:58.where the lights have been adjusted People have been saying they are

:20:59. > :21:04.concerned about safety, particularly people walking alone during those

:21:05. > :21:08.times. Possibly about increased crime. Some have cited Windows in

:21:09. > :21:11.vehicles being smashed. Not everyone is

:21:12. > :21:13.against the changes - but campaigners hope

:21:14. > :21:26.the County Council The actor Colin McFarlane what a

:21:27. > :21:29.rethink on this from lecture County Council. Richard Davies is the

:21:30. > :21:36.councillor responsible for the switch. -- Lincolnshire. I asked the

:21:37. > :21:41.councillor if they put the lights back on what else would have to go.

:21:42. > :21:44.We would have less money to spend on filling potholes and taking care of

:21:45. > :21:49.the elderly and issues around schools and education would go. The

:21:50. > :21:53.fact is we talk to the public of Lincolnshire on a regular basis and

:21:54. > :21:55.we have 77 councillors covering the whole county and this is not the top

:21:56. > :22:01.priority for the people of Lincolnshire. Colin, you would

:22:02. > :22:05.rather see these other things cut? You don't need to cut other things,

:22:06. > :22:09.you just need to have a conversation with the public and that is not
