:20:07. > :20:14.patrolling busy areas after yesterday's terror attack.
:20:15. > :20:19.It is more about using the resources we have in the right place and the
:20:20. > :20:23.right time, but that will include seeing armed officers at on patrol.
:20:24. > :20:29.That is the assistant Chief Constable and a dire talking to us
:20:30. > :20:33.on the programme tonight. Let go back to Westminster, Tim Iredale is
:20:34. > :20:39.there. How would you sum up the mood at Westminster today? Well, I think
:20:40. > :20:44.it has been defined. Many of our MPs would have come to work here today
:20:45. > :20:48.feeling shocked and no dead very saddened by what happened yesterday,
:20:49. > :20:52.but they were determined to get on with their jobs. It was very
:20:53. > :20:56.interesting listening to the debate in the Commons today, hearing from
:20:57. > :21:00.some veteran MPs. Edward Leigh, the Gainsborough MP, talked about
:21:01. > :21:04.Churchill, Attlee and what happened during the war. Parliament has a
:21:05. > :21:09.long, proud history of seeing off its enemies, whether they are from a
:21:10. > :21:12.foreign invading force or the modern-day curse of a terror attack
:21:13. > :21:16.and I think it has been that Dunkirk spirit that has been the order of
:21:17. > :21:21.the day today. And you think that this week's events will lead to
:21:22. > :21:23.tighter security for both MPs at Westminster at their workplace and
:21:24. > :21:30.also back here in the constituencies. What you have got to
:21:31. > :21:33.remember, as Big Ben strike seven o'clock behind me, is that this is
:21:34. > :21:38.already one of the most heavily fortified buildings in the country.
:21:39. > :21:41.As long as I have been covering politics it, there has been a heavy
:21:42. > :21:45.police presence night and day and many of those officers are armed.
:21:46. > :21:49.When it comes to constituencies, there is already a big debate about
:21:50. > :21:55.how safe are MPs following the tragic murder of Jo Cox last year. I
:21:56. > :21:57.think many MPs will be reluctant to create any more division between
:21:58. > :22:02.them and the people they represent, even if it means putting them at
:22:03. > :22:09.risk. Right on cue, Big Ben started, it is 7pm. We were talking about the
:22:10. > :22:15.police presence and increasing the police presence in our part of the
:22:16. > :22:18.world and I was talking there at the police station earlier to the
:22:19. > :22:21.assistant Chief Constable. Your response on the subject and keep
:22:22. > :22:26.them coming in, we will have some more tomorrow night, everybody is
:22:27. > :22:29.talking about this story. Mark says, good, I'd have thought we should be
:22:30. > :22:35.having cover anyway, especially with this being the City of Culture, a
:22:36. > :22:39.reference to the police being armed. The Beano says Lincoln is a prime
:22:40. > :22:44.target now that the world knows where the drones are flown from, a
:22:45. > :22:49.reference to RAF Waddington. This one is anonymous. I think it is all
:22:50. > :22:55.for her something like this has to happen before an increase in police
:22:56. > :23:00.presence is issued. It makes you feel much safer and like my children
:23:01. > :23:06.are also safe. Plus the police officers out are always friendly.
:23:07. > :23:12.And John is in Lincoln. Do we want the Stasi type society? I think not.
:23:13. > :23:16.Therefore, these individual acts by deranged fanatics may be a price
:23:17. > :23:20.that we unfortunately have to pay for the freedoms we enjoy. Keep
:23:21. > :23:25.those messages of course coming in on the subject of policing and how
:23:26. > :23:31.we deal with the threat of terrorism. There we are, very busy
:23:32. > :23:36.night, thank you for watching. More on our stories tonight in the late
:23:37. > :23:41.look North at 10:30pm. Have a nice evening. If you can join me later,
:23:42. > :23:45.that would be good, if not, tomorrow at half past six. Good night.
