:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:00. > :00:11.The Lincolnshire fighter jets preparing to patrol the skies

:00:12. > :00:24.It is not in response to any specific threat but a component of

:00:25. > :00:28.how Nato supports its allies. Ukip

:00:29. > :00:30.representatives say they're still relevant despite their only MP

:00:31. > :00:46.leaving the party. How'd you can get your ticket to

:00:47. > :00:50.Radio 1's Big Weekend. Sun-macro it is a world-class festival and if you

:00:51. > :00:51.compare it to Reading and Leeds, it is still representing really good

:00:52. > :00:54.money. Scunthorpe United win a thriller

:00:55. > :00:56.over a promotion rival but what will it mean

:00:57. > :01:06.for their season? After a sunny weekend, will the sun

:01:07. > :01:17.shine this week? Join me for the weather forecast.

:01:18. > :01:33.As one of the biggest deployment since the end of the Cold War,

:01:34. > :01:40.equivalent and personal flying to Europe.

:01:41. > :01:41.The RAF fighters from RAF Coningsby

:01:42. > :01:43.will work with Romanian forces in the region.

:01:44. > :01:46.But one expert in international diplomacy has warned that it

:01:47. > :01:48.could lead to an escalation in tensions between

:01:49. > :01:50.Russia and the West, as Crispin Rolfe reports.

:01:51. > :01:52.A build up of tanks - first in the Ukraine by Russia,

:01:53. > :01:56.An increase in tension following Russia's 2014 armed

:01:57. > :01:58.takeover of the then Ukranian state, the Crimea.

:01:59. > :02:02.It's a move which this year has seen a build up of forces on both sides

:02:03. > :02:05.And one which is about to include jets, personnel and spares

:02:06. > :02:11.Today 200 tonnes of equipment is already on its way to Romania,

:02:12. > :02:14.from where up to six of the airbase's Typhoons

:02:15. > :02:33.It is about reassurance. The Nato emissions show deterrent against

:02:34. > :02:37.aggression and our ability to demonstrate collective resolve.

:02:38. > :02:45.Sun-macro we have vehicles moving away on land and then going across

:02:46. > :02:46.to the ports. We will be deploying the remaining attachment by air as

:02:47. > :02:49.well. Following Russian incursions

:02:50. > :02:51.into European air space in 2015, last year the Ministry

:02:52. > :02:53.of Defence announced that RAF Coningsby's typhoons

:02:54. > :02:55.would fly to Romania to help patrol the skies above Nato's Black Sea

:02:56. > :02:58.Allies, themselves once And this month, the UK also deployed

:02:59. > :03:01.120 troops to Estonia as part of one of the biggest

:03:02. > :03:03.British deployments But all of this military action,

:03:04. > :03:08.has prompted criticism, with some saying its inflaming

:03:09. > :03:26.Russia's RAF Coningsby. -- own border fears. If you get

:03:27. > :03:32.tension across an area, you can get mistakes. Accidents, incidents and

:03:33. > :03:37.mavericks. You might have patrols that stray across the border and it

:03:38. > :03:42.can lead to major problems. That is the risk of this situation and one

:03:43. > :03:48.which in some ways has to be avoided. RAF Coningsby's role in

:03:49. > :03:52.setting up a air base away from home would be a huge logistical exercise

:03:53. > :03:57.but those in charge also know that the real challenge is to make sure

:03:58. > :03:59.tensions on the border with Russia don't escalate any further.

:04:00. > :04:04.Crispin is with me in the studio now.

:04:05. > :04:09.How important is the role they will be playing out there?

:04:10. > :04:12.Peter, if relations are not quite as cold between Russia and the West

:04:13. > :04:15.Then they're certainly feeling less than summery.

:04:16. > :04:17.So it's into this climate that those from RAF Coningsby

:04:18. > :04:23.In some ways its diplomacy at the sharp end, but that's

:04:24. > :04:40.bombers coming to British airspace. They are trained and they will be

:04:41. > :04:41.looking to do that at the sharp end. Ultimately, they will be doing it a

:04:42. > :04:51.lot closer to the Russian border. The nine-year-old who needs

:04:52. > :04:54.thousands of pounds for a life changing operation.

:04:55. > :04:57.A leading member of Ukip in Lincolnshire insists the Party

:04:58. > :04:59.will bounce back "stronger than ever" following the resignation

:05:00. > :05:05.Douglas Carswell, who's the MP for Clacton, announced on Saturday

:05:06. > :05:10.that he would sit as an Independent in the House of Commons.

:05:11. > :05:12.It's the latest setback for Ukip following the announcement from one

:05:13. > :05:18.of it's main financial backers that he, too, was leaving.

:05:19. > :05:21.But Victoria Ayling, who speaks on Tourism and Heritage,

:05:22. > :05:26.for the party insists Ukip has a bright future.

:05:27. > :05:29.We'll be hearing from her in a moment but first

:05:30. > :05:37.2014 was a high point for Ukip in our area.

:05:38. > :05:42.It won councillors and MEPs in the local and european elections.

:05:43. > :05:46.But Ukip never gained an MP in East Yorkshire or Lincolnshire.

:05:47. > :05:50.Now the party's only sitting MP in the country

:05:51. > :05:57.Douglas Carswell has quit Ukip, syaing it was job done.

:05:58. > :06:04.I went into Ukip and made the switch to get us out of the European Union.

:06:05. > :06:06.Theresa May means Brexit is in safe hands.

:06:07. > :06:09.But Ukip nationally has had a year of turmoil.

:06:10. > :06:12.And some councillors in our area have left the party.

:06:13. > :06:14.This recent defector to the Conservatives says the party

:06:15. > :06:27.At the moment that referendum was granted by David Cameron, we were

:06:28. > :06:29.aware that a lot of the reasons to exist have been shot out of the

:06:30. > :06:31.water. But despite a loss of

:06:32. > :06:33.power at Westminster, the numbers say Ukip does still have

:06:34. > :06:36.some power in East Yorkshire It has zero MPs

:06:37. > :06:39.but it has four MEPs, two representing Yorkshire

:06:40. > :06:41.and the Humber, two representing the East Midlands

:06:42. > :06:43.including Lincolnshire. And 38 local councillors

:06:44. > :06:47.across the area. In the Autumn, Ukip Euro MPs told us

:06:48. > :07:03.until Brexit happens, We must carry on doing our job

:07:04. > :07:07.keeping a good eye on a lot of the legislation which we don't want and

:07:08. > :07:09.we hope will be gone. Whilst we are not gone, it is our duty to do the

:07:10. > :07:12.job which we were elected to do. by-election showed there

:07:13. > :07:16.was still some appetite for Ukip, Ukip may have played

:07:17. > :07:20.an important role in making last The question now is how

:07:21. > :07:25.they convince the doubters that it Earlier I spoke to Victoria Ayling,

:07:26. > :07:36.who's based in Lincolnshire and who's Ukip's spokesman

:07:37. > :07:39.on Tourism and Heritage. I asked her how she felt

:07:40. > :07:52.about losing the party's only MP. He was a divisive character and

:07:53. > :07:56.caused more problems than he is worth and we never got a penny off

:07:57. > :08:01.the short money. Most of the members now feel good riddance. We managed

:08:02. > :08:06.to get a referendum without having an MP which was the biggest

:08:07. > :08:12.achievement by a Nigel Farage so we don't need him. Ukip was set up 23

:08:13. > :08:17.years ago to get us out of the EU. That is happening now. The party is

:08:18. > :08:23.irrelevant and not needed now. Of course we are relevant. Theresa May

:08:24. > :08:26.is backsliding and talking about keeping the European Union arrest

:08:27. > :08:31.warrant and talking about quotas regarding fishes -- Fishing post

:08:32. > :08:36.Brexit. We need to keep a 200 mile limit for our fishermen and we

:08:37. > :08:46.should draw those borders. Why does your one MP save the job is done? It

:08:47. > :08:50.has become evident he was a Tory plant to cause problems in Ukip

:08:51. > :08:55.which has become very apparent anti-left before he was pushed by

:08:56. > :09:00.the NEC today. That is your view but Ukip is a shambles at the moment and

:09:01. > :09:07.everyone is jumping ship. Douglas Carswell, Nigel Farage, it is

:09:08. > :09:12.leaving and falling apart. Nigel was in the audience today in London

:09:13. > :09:18.today. Aaron Banks hasn't jumped and I think you should watch this space

:09:19. > :09:22.because we'll be back stronger than ever because somebody or some

:09:23. > :09:26.organisation, especially Ukip, have got to hold the government to

:09:27. > :09:31.account because the government is backsliding on Brexit and cannot be

:09:32. > :09:38.trusted. You mentioned Paul Nuttall. He had a miserable by-election in

:09:39. > :09:45.Stoke. Who is the better leader for your party? Is it Paul Nuttall or

:09:46. > :09:50.Nigel Farage? You have got it inaccurate. It was a very good

:09:51. > :09:54.second that we came in Stoke and regarding readerships, they are both

:09:55. > :09:59.exactly as competent but they are different. Nigel Farage is an

:10:00. > :10:04.enigma. He is unique and a charismatic leader. Paul Nuttall

:10:05. > :10:08.hazardous way of doing things. If he wants to come back as leader and

:10:09. > :10:14.many think he will, you would welcome mat? I have always been a

:10:15. > :10:18.huge Nigel Farage supporter. I like the way he delivers things and I

:10:19. > :10:23.like his policies. I believe we can go forward as a united entity under

:10:24. > :10:27.Paul Nuttall and Nigel Farage has never left Ukip and is unlikely to.

:10:28. > :10:32.Now we have to hold the government to account to make sure Brexit means

:10:33. > :10:37.Brexit and we don't get the backsliding which seems apparent now

:10:38. > :10:39.with this government. Good to talk to you tonight, thank you very much

:10:40. > :10:48.indeed. Thank you. Is she right? Does Ukip have a

:10:49. > :10:58.strong future? The Prime Minister tomorrow will -- on Wednesday, she

:10:59. > :11:01.will trigger Article 50. Is that done or is there still more work for

:11:02. > :11:10.Ukip to do? We would like your views and

:11:11. > :11:24.comments on this. Grantham's accident and emergency

:11:25. > :11:29.department is opening NHS bosses reduced opening times

:11:30. > :11:34.at the hospital last summer. They say a lack of staff means

:11:35. > :11:37.they couldn't run it safely. The department will now open

:11:38. > :11:40.at eight o'clock and run until A motorcyclist is in a serious

:11:41. > :11:46.condition after a crash It happened at Speedway Corner

:11:47. > :11:50.near Ruskington on Saturday evening A 29-year-old man from

:11:51. > :11:53.Grantham was airlifted School children in Yorkshire

:11:54. > :12:00.and the Humber missed the most lesson-time in England last year,

:12:01. > :12:03.because of term-time holidays. Official figures show

:12:04. > :12:06.that in the East Riding, family holidays made up almost half

:12:07. > :12:11.of all missed lessons. Almost a million pupils in England

:12:12. > :12:19.missed at least one day of school. The deadline has now closed

:12:20. > :12:21.for people wanting to run North East Lincolnshire

:12:22. > :12:24.Council is searching for someone to run it

:12:25. > :12:27.following funding difficulties. Past organisers say it would be sad

:12:28. > :12:31.if no-one can be found to put Nine-year-old Maisie has cerebral

:12:32. > :12:45.palsy and needs a walking frame Surgeons have told her parents

:12:46. > :12:48.an operation could help But that operation is no longer

:12:49. > :12:52.available on the NHS. So her family, who live in Hornsea,

:12:53. > :12:55.are now trying to raise More now from our health

:12:56. > :13:00.correspondent Vicky Johnson, and her report does have some

:13:01. > :13:15.graphic images of surgery. Like any energetic nine-year-old,

:13:16. > :13:20.Maisie enjoys playtime at school but her cerebral palsy means she has to

:13:21. > :13:26.use a walking frame. I can kind of jump with it but I'm not supposed to

:13:27. > :13:35.because it could tip backwards. Maisie suffered a brain injury after

:13:36. > :13:38.being born 11 weeks early. Her twin, Alfie, was unaffected. It is not

:13:39. > :13:48.fair on her that she falls over all the time. Surgeons in Leeds have

:13:49. > :13:53.been first in the country to carry out a highly complex operation to

:13:54. > :13:56.help children like Maisie. Cerebral palsy is a condition that affects

:13:57. > :14:03.muscle control and movement. Is usually caused by an injury to the

:14:04. > :14:09.brain around the time of birth. Selective dorsal rise to me helps

:14:10. > :14:13.reduce muscle stiffness and cuts nerves in the spine which makes the

:14:14. > :14:19.muscles rigid. The procedure is suitable for children between three

:14:20. > :14:28.and 12 years old. What it can do is move her from using a frame to using

:14:29. > :14:32.two sticks and then one stick and then independent walking without

:14:33. > :14:36.AIDS. John and his team have carried out 80 of these operations but NHS

:14:37. > :14:37.England have told us they are not funding any more until they've

:14:38. > :14:52.completed an evaluation programme. This means her family and friends

:14:53. > :14:59.now have to raise ?20,000 to pay for her surgery. It is so frustrating

:15:00. > :15:05.that for a little girl to be a normal little girl, she has to pay

:15:06. > :15:12.this money which is what Maisie says, "Why do I have to paid to be

:15:13. > :15:17.normal like my brother?" Sun-macro hopefully I will be able to run and

:15:18. > :15:23.jump and walking my princess high heels. The family don't have long to

:15:24. > :15:25.fund raise as they want to have the operation and intensive

:15:26. > :15:32.physiotherapy before she secondary school. We mesh them all the very

:15:33. > :15:51.best. On Wednesday, we will be

:15:52. > :15:53.broadcasting the programme from Boston where they will be triggering

:15:54. > :16:20.Article 50. We will be in Boston on Wednesday

:16:21. > :16:31.night. Thank you for watching. Still ahead... We have all the information

:16:32. > :16:36.about how you can get to Bob BBC Radio Wales's Big Weekend late in

:16:37. > :16:52.the year. And Scunthorpe United's win.

:16:53. > :17:02.We have this picture from Boston tonight. Good evening, young man.

:17:03. > :17:14.Did you have a good weekend? One person saw me filming on Tuesday

:17:15. > :17:22.last week. He looked miserable and cold. No real change there.

:17:23. > :17:30.The lady that saw you on your balcony for your legs were very

:17:31. > :17:37.white. The headline is not looking too bad. It has been warmer than it

:17:38. > :17:43.has been. Cloud to come over the next few days. A breeze coming in

:17:44. > :17:46.from the south-west. This weather friend may bring one or two showers

:17:47. > :17:51.later in the day but temperatures will be better than the ones we have

:17:52. > :17:56.had this afternoon. The depressed temperatures, it has broken up to a

:17:57. > :18:03.certain extent and it will come back in. If you have some cloud breaks at

:18:04. > :18:08.the moment, they will soon fill in. All parts will be dried tonight.

:18:09. > :18:14.Perhaps a little bit of patchy fog in places. Let us have a look at

:18:15. > :18:20.those minimum temperatures. Not terribly exciting. The sun will rise

:18:21. > :18:33.at 555 AM. It is a dry and cloudy start

:18:34. > :18:38.tomorrow. Very glad Julie the cloud will break up from the south-west

:18:39. > :18:48.and afternoon looked pleasant. Bright or sunny intervals. There is

:18:49. > :18:54.that weak front we talked about. A noticeable improvement in tomorrow

:18:55. > :19:01.afternoon's temperatures. Temperatures around 14 Celsius. 16

:19:02. > :19:10.Celsius is possible in South Lincolnshire. Quite a lot of cloud

:19:11. > :19:13.on Wednesday. It is bright and breezy on Friday with some sunshine

:19:14. > :19:26.and one or two showers. That is the forecast.

:19:27. > :19:33.Have a nice evening. Get those legs tanned. See you tomorrow.

:19:34. > :19:36.It's been revealed when tickets for Radio One's Big

:19:37. > :19:39.The free music event is taking place at Burton

:19:40. > :19:43.50,000 tickets are up for grabs and travel arrangements

:19:44. > :19:50.The only way onto the site will be via a shuttle bus or park and ride -

:19:51. > :19:54.Caroline Bilton is live at Burton Constable Hall

:19:55. > :20:05.Radio One's Big weekend is one of the most anticipated

:20:06. > :20:08.events of the year - taking place here in the shadow

:20:09. > :20:16.of the magnificent Burton Constable hall on the 27th and 28th May.

:20:17. > :20:18.50,000 free tickets will be released during The Radio 1

:20:19. > :20:30.Breakfast Show at 9:10am on Monday 10th April.

:20:31. > :20:33.I use the term, free, loosely as there is a ?8.50

:20:34. > :20:39.adminstration fee to pay for each ticket.

:20:40. > :20:42.Organisers say this is to cover postage and admin costs.

:20:43. > :20:46.People will also need to pay ?13 to use a shuttle bus

:20:47. > :20:53.This will be the only way to get onto the site

:20:54. > :20:57.For safety reasons, people will not be allowed to walk

:20:58. > :21:02.There will be no on-site parking so people will need

:21:03. > :21:05.to park their car at a designated park and ride spot at

:21:06. > :21:13.So in effect a day out at Radio One's Big Weekend

:21:14. > :21:27.What I say is it's a ten hour world-class musical

:21:28. > :21:30.festival for around 20 quid and if you compare that

:21:31. > :21:33.to the V Festival or Reading and Leeds which are 70 or ?80

:21:34. > :21:35.or more, I think it still represents really great money.

:21:36. > :21:41.No one is making any money from this event.

:21:42. > :21:43.The costs are just to cover the costs of getting

:21:44. > :21:46.there and getting back and I still think it represents good

:21:47. > :21:57.They are issued on a first come first served basis.

:21:58. > :22:00.70% will go to HU postcodes - 25% have been set aside for people

:22:01. > :22:04.Tickets will be made available online via the Radio 1 website.

:22:05. > :22:07.Those without internet access will be able to call a hotline

:22:08. > :22:24.For more details go to the website bbc.co.uk/bigweekend.

:22:25. > :22:26.A French Cold War aircraft has begun its journey to Yorkshire today.

:22:27. > :22:29.This Mirage Four nuclear bomber is being taken from Paris

:22:30. > :22:31.to the Yorkshire Air Museum near Pocklington.

:22:32. > :22:33.It's so big it will be travelling on two transporters.

:22:34. > :22:41.The museum will be streaming pictures of its journey online.

:22:42. > :22:53.The French government are gifting another bomber to us. We have the

:22:54. > :23:07.Mirallas three and we have the mirage for. It is a very exciting

:23:08. > :23:09.coming up. -- Mirage with three and Mirage four.

:23:10. > :23:11.Hull Kingston Rovers scrum half Jamie Ellis equalled the world

:23:12. > :23:13.record for successive goal kicks during The Robins 28-14 win

:23:14. > :23:17.This kick made it 41 straight successes levelling the record

:23:18. > :23:21.He missed the chance to break the record later in the game,

:23:22. > :23:24.but the Rovers victory leaves them four points clear at the top

:23:25. > :23:27.There is renewed optimism at Scunthorpe United

:23:28. > :23:29.following a thrilling win over Bradford City yesterday.

:23:30. > :23:32.It comes after a miserable run of form which had seen only

:23:33. > :23:35.one win for the Iron in their previous eleven matches.

:23:36. > :23:37.Yesterday they staged a comeback that saw them leap

:23:38. > :23:39.frog their opponents in the League One table.

:23:40. > :23:49.With just one win in 11 games Scunthorpe United's needed

:23:50. > :23:51.to stop the slide to keep promotion hopes alive.

:23:52. > :23:55.Ivan Toney gave the iron and early lead but it didn't last Kevin Toner

:23:56. > :23:57.equalised for Bradford City and just two minutes later Alex Jones

:23:58. > :24:11.After the break the thrilling contest turned again and Toney's

:24:12. > :24:12.second Scunthorpe United goal brought them level

:24:13. > :24:21.With a late header Matt Crooks earned the Iron all three points,

:24:22. > :24:23.putting them above Bradford City in the chase for

:24:24. > :24:41.There were signs in there that we were back to the heights that we

:24:42. > :24:45.have set ourselves. We have the result and we take their positivity

:24:46. > :24:50.forward into next week. Sun-macro scoring goals is what we want.

:24:51. > :25:02.Managed to do that today. We need to get the win and we got it today.

:25:03. > :25:14.Very good atmosphere and a really good game. First half wasn't so

:25:15. > :25:17.good. We need to keep playing the way we did in the second half and
