:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:00. > :00:10.The headlines in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire this Monday night...

:00:11. > :00:12.Online abuse aimed at travellers and gypsies will not be tolerated,

:00:13. > :00:20.says Humberside's Police and Crime Commissioner.

:00:21. > :00:25.It is like they are the last community around in the country

:00:26. > :00:26.where people feel they can say this kind of thing with immunity. They

:00:27. > :00:29.are not going to get immunity. A man's sent to prison

:00:30. > :00:39.after a cash machine was ripped It is quite scary to sink something

:00:40. > :00:40.like that would happen here. -- think.

:00:41. > :00:43.Extra money for East Coast resorts to try and attract

:00:44. > :00:52.The best part of ?4 million will be invested in Hornsea for improving

:00:53. > :00:53.facilities for road users and bringing more visitors to the south

:00:54. > :00:55.end of the seafront. Weekend warriors -

:00:56. > :00:57.Hull City are just a point More than just a bridge -

:00:58. > :01:13.the new music to soundtrack We have seen some lovely weather

:01:14. > :01:17.across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire today. We'll seems like

:01:18. > :01:22.this stay with us? A full forecast shortly. -- will scenarios like

:01:23. > :01:29.this. The Humberside Police

:01:30. > :01:31.and Crime Commissioner is warning people they will be prosecuted

:01:32. > :01:33.for extreme comments they make on social media

:01:34. > :01:35.about gypsies and travellers. Keith Hunter says many people

:01:36. > :01:39.are committing hate crimes and the force will target hose

:01:40. > :01:42.who post threatening comments Our correspondent

:01:43. > :01:56.Vicky Johnson has more. They are often portrayed in the

:01:57. > :02:00.media as unwelcome visitors. And when travellers recently pitched up

:02:01. > :02:05.near Hull the younger of some locals erupted on social media. Many posted

:02:06. > :02:11.from calling travellers of vermin to from calling travellers of vermin to

:02:12. > :02:15.threats to harm them. People have been writing things in encouraging

:02:16. > :02:21.people to burn out these caravans with women and children inside. If

:02:22. > :02:24.people threatened to burn down churches, synagogues and mosques,

:02:25. > :02:28.people would rightly crying out that it was not acceptable. But with

:02:29. > :02:31.Gypsies and travellers it is like they are the last community where

:02:32. > :02:39.people feel they can say that kind of thing with immunity. They will

:02:40. > :02:45.not get immunity. This is one of the trailers that I live in with my

:02:46. > :02:49.family. This woman is a Romany gypsy who tries to build bridges with the

:02:50. > :02:55.settled community in Lincolnshire but she says online abuse is very

:02:56. > :03:00.damaging. It makes me feel fearful for my children, my grandchildren.

:03:01. > :03:05.It makes me feel separate from the rest of the community. Just very

:03:06. > :03:10.painful in general. It is very debilitating for young people, most

:03:11. > :03:14.of whom are online, reading comments like that. There have been

:03:15. > :03:20.complaints right across the area from Grimsby to ghoul about the mess

:03:21. > :03:26.left by some travellers and gypsies. What the Ross on permanent sides

:03:27. > :03:29.there are no specific stopover places in Hull, Northern

:03:30. > :03:33.Lincolnshire or East Yorkshire. The council have failed in their

:03:34. > :03:36.obligation to make site provision. So families do not have an option

:03:37. > :03:41.about where they live and where they are camping. Every community has

:03:42. > :03:46.individuals you might call bad apples. For the harbour-side police

:03:47. > :03:51.and Crime Commissioner, enough is enough. We must draw a line in the

:03:52. > :03:56.sand and say it is not acceptable for anybody to use threatening and

:03:57. > :04:00.abusive language. Police are warning anybody found posting hate filled

:04:01. > :04:01.comments about gypsies and travellers could now face

:04:02. > :04:03.prosecution. Helen Jones is from the Leeds Gypsy

:04:04. > :04:06.and Traveller Exchange. I asked her if it's

:04:07. > :04:09.depressing that the Police and Crime Commissioner has had

:04:10. > :04:14.to speak out in this way. Also the fact it has

:04:15. > :04:25.taken lobbying by gypsy traveller advocates to get him

:04:26. > :04:28.to the position where he recognises I welcome the commissioner's

:04:29. > :04:32.response but hope he and others will be more

:04:33. > :04:34.proactive in future, without relying upon advocates

:04:35. > :04:36.to bring the matter to Why do you feel some people think

:04:37. > :04:43.they can make offensive and unacceptable remarks about

:04:44. > :04:45.travellers where they would not do And unfortunately they are not

:04:46. > :04:56.pulled up for doing it. If something comes out

:04:57. > :04:59.of the statement, if that leads to people being brought up short

:05:00. > :05:01.for their actions we might see

:05:02. > :05:03.some progress on this issue and might see some

:05:04. > :05:04.of these tired, painful stereotypes

:05:05. > :05:06.stop being repeated. Well, as you know,

:05:07. > :05:16.I'm not from the gypsy traveller community myself

:05:17. > :05:19.and actually I often feel I am glad I am not and I'm glad I am employed

:05:20. > :05:22.to be I'm glad I am put forward

:05:23. > :05:30.and can be there to challenge these things,

:05:31. > :05:33.because I don't see why it should be that people who are victims of crime

:05:34. > :05:37.have to be the only people that There is clearly something

:05:38. > :05:45.of a breakdown somewhere between the traveller community

:05:46. > :05:46.and some other people. One of the ways is

:05:47. > :05:51.by interrupting hate crime and being very clear

:05:52. > :05:53.about what hate crime is. The other side is just having

:05:54. > :05:57.more situations where people can get to know each other

:05:58. > :06:01.and get past these tired stereotype. I'm sorry to say it again

:06:02. > :06:07.but there is good and bad in all walks of life and we have

:06:08. > :06:10.to get past that. Just briefly, some

:06:11. > :06:12.of these messages even I don't want to read out, which have

:06:13. > :06:15.been posted on social media, What do you say to people

:06:16. > :06:18.who make these comments? Get a life, find

:06:19. > :06:20.something better to do with yourself, make a positive

:06:21. > :06:23.contribution to the world Helen Jones, thank you very much,

:06:24. > :06:27.nice talking to you tonight. A 22-year-old man has been

:06:28. > :06:32.jailed for four years The ATM was ripped from the wall

:06:33. > :06:43.of the Spa shop in Thorngumbald Targeted by thieves in February -

:06:44. > :06:56.the cash point at this shop in Thorngumbold,

:06:57. > :06:59.stolen in a ram raid. But today, as the gang behind

:07:00. > :07:02.it is still to be arrested, 22-year-old Lewis Holdstock

:07:03. > :07:05.from Southcoates Lane in Hull pleaded guilty to stealing a JCB

:07:06. > :07:08.from a local farm and using it It was very distressing

:07:09. > :07:12.because a lot of people relied on the ATM,

:07:13. > :07:15.especially older people. There is nothing in the village

:07:16. > :07:18.for them to get any money and upset everybody in the village,

:07:19. > :07:32.as well. In conclusion the judge said the man

:07:33. > :07:35.was probably not the brains behind the operation but had

:07:36. > :07:37.nonetheless taken part in a well-planned, audacious

:07:38. > :07:39.and sophisticated crime. He sentenced him to four

:07:40. > :07:46.years in prison and said he would spend at least half that

:07:47. > :07:49.time behind bars and the rest Thieves failed to escape

:07:50. > :07:52.with the ?38,000 worth of cash in the machine,

:07:53. > :07:55.but they caused ?68,000 worth I went to the chemist

:07:56. > :07:59.and they said, have you seen I had seen several similar

:08:00. > :08:09.sorts of villages, maybe a bit larger than this,

:08:10. > :08:12.having the same thing happen. Eight cash machines have been taken

:08:13. > :08:16.in this area in the last In a statement the

:08:17. > :08:26.police have said... Meanwhile the shop here is waiting

:08:27. > :08:29.to return to normal, with repairs Shortlisting has started to find

:08:30. > :08:39.the new Chief Constable The position, which commands

:08:40. > :08:43.a salary of up to ?160,000, became available after Justine Curran stood

:08:44. > :08:45.down in February. Interviews will take

:08:46. > :08:52.place later this month. Nottinghamshire police say more

:08:53. > :08:54.than 100 officers are continuing to search for a mother and her two

:08:55. > :08:57.sons, who have been Officers believe Samantha Baldwin

:08:58. > :09:04.has abducted her two boys nine-year-old Louis and six-year-old

:09:05. > :09:09.Dylan. These CCTV images were taken just

:09:10. > :09:14.a few days before they disappeared, police say the 40 year-old may have

:09:15. > :09:17.since changed appearances. The family have links

:09:18. > :09:18.to Lincolnshire. Police across the region have seen

:09:19. > :09:22.a rise in reports of children meeting paedophiles,

:09:23. > :09:23.according to figures There were 93 reports last

:09:24. > :09:30.year to police forces across the Yorkshire and Humber

:09:31. > :09:32.region, more than double In Lincolnshire there were 50

:09:33. > :09:47.incidents over the last five years. If you have young children there

:09:48. > :09:50.will be much interest in that story. We will have more on that on Look

:09:51. > :09:54.North at half past ten. More than ?10 million of money

:09:55. > :09:56.will be invested in seaside Hornsea and Cleethorpes

:09:57. > :09:59.are the biggest winners, Our reporter Amanda White is live

:10:00. > :10:15.in Hornsea for us tonight. It is being shared out from here in

:10:16. > :10:21.Hornsea writes down to Cleethorpes, mainly on tourism projects. For

:10:22. > :10:28.example, in the fruit market, ?700,000 to turn it into a 3-storey

:10:29. > :10:31.state of the art arts venue. And the Yorkshire wildlife trust, focusing

:10:32. > :10:36.on conservation, education, at the new visitor centre and this coastal

:10:37. > :10:40.community money is hotly contested and the fact there is so much of it

:10:41. > :10:46.coming right to our doorstep is being celebrated. The beach might be

:10:47. > :10:51.the main attraction at the close but today people want more. Almost ?10

:10:52. > :10:57.million of government money will help provide it. The vision is to

:10:58. > :11:01.create a new area and new tourism area for people to come and visit.

:11:02. > :11:06.We can make sure this area is regenerated. People want to come and

:11:07. > :11:10.visit, have a look and they had the opportunity to enjoy all the things

:11:11. > :11:14.Cleethorpes has the offer. Great to be in Hornsea today with local

:11:15. > :11:19.leaders and join in a celebration about what will be more improvement

:11:20. > :11:23.on an already marvellous town. The money is being shared out along our

:11:24. > :11:27.coast. Hornsey will get almost ?4 million to renovate the seafront.

:11:28. > :11:32.Just over 1 million will be spent on projects including creating natural

:11:33. > :11:36.habitat near the wetlands. Cleethorpes will also get a cash

:11:37. > :11:41.boost of almost ?4 million to improve public spaces. Businesses in

:11:42. > :11:48.Cleethorpes are keen to know more. We have lot of things like treasure

:11:49. > :11:52.Island, recently. This is something the whole community can get involved

:11:53. > :11:55.with in bringing people to the town. There are certain areas we would

:11:56. > :11:59.love to smarten up and we hope it will attract people more to

:12:00. > :12:03.Cleethorpes. Some places have been abandoned for years and had not had

:12:04. > :12:08.any investment. It is interesting with the investment has come from.

:12:09. > :12:13.Any more that is put into the front and further along up to the boat

:12:14. > :12:16.club would be fantastic. In Hornsea a cafe and education centre will be

:12:17. > :12:20.developed alongside a better boat yard. Although fishermen will come

:12:21. > :12:25.the improved facilities they are also concerned. It will bring more

:12:26. > :12:30.public into dangerous areas because we have tractors, boats and trailers

:12:31. > :12:35.crossing the road and coming from the beach. The idea of fishermen

:12:36. > :12:39.coming down to the south end was to get them away from the public. But

:12:40. > :12:43.this is not taking them away. This is increasing the public around the

:12:44. > :12:48.fishermen. Sooner or later there will be an accident. Increasing

:12:49. > :12:53.visitor numbers is the main driver behind the projects winning funding

:12:54. > :12:54.today. Now the money is here it is the finer detail that needs to be

:12:55. > :13:04.resolved. This is the road the fishermen have

:13:05. > :13:09.the cross. We can see there are genuine safety concerns yet to be

:13:10. > :13:13.addressed. And likewise at the other area there is concern at the visitor

:13:14. > :13:18.centre which still needs to be ironed out. But there is cause for

:13:19. > :13:22.celebration today. Just one project in Cleethorpes promises a unique

:13:23. > :13:25.venue, right on the seafront, thanks to one of the projects funded today.

:13:26. > :13:27.Amanda, thank you very much. We want to hear from

:13:28. > :13:30.you on this story. What difference do you think this

:13:31. > :13:33.money will make to the East Coast? What more do we need to do

:13:34. > :13:42.to improve our seaside towns? The lion's share of the money going

:13:43. > :13:46.to Hornsey and Cleethorpes. What do they need and what would you spend

:13:47. > :13:52.the money on? It is a lot of money, as well. What can we do to attract

:13:53. > :13:56.people to the resorts and keep them alive? What would you like to see it

:13:57. > :14:08.spent on hand to get visitors all year around? The addresses... The

:14:09. > :14:15.text number... And follow me on Twitter... ?10 million for the East

:14:16. > :14:19.Coast resorts. How would you like to see the money spent? What do you

:14:20. > :14:22.think it should be spent on? We look forward to hearing from you.

:14:23. > :14:24.Still ahead tonight: Hull City move a step closer

:14:25. > :14:30.I'm at Sincil Bank - as Lincoln City continue their push

:14:31. > :14:36.for promotion to the Football League.

:14:37. > :14:52.The Opera North composition reaching both sides of the Humber.

:14:53. > :14:58.That is a fascinating story, the sounds of the bridge. Do not miss

:14:59. > :15:02.that in about ten minutes. Now the weather is better. This was taken by

:15:03. > :15:07.Danny and it is of Gainsborough. Dani, thank you. Another picture

:15:08. > :15:12.tomorrow night at around about the same time. Send them to us. Paul and

:15:13. > :15:18.Keely are both not here. It is an early Easter treat because Owen is

:15:19. > :15:21.here the weather. I should have maybe dressed up as something a bit

:15:22. > :15:26.more Easter like, like an Easter bunny. A bit early? With anybody

:15:27. > :15:33.else we would laugh and think it was a joke but with you it could

:15:34. > :15:36.possibly be true! I guess so, yes. I think Paul has an Easter bunny

:15:37. > :15:40.outfit. Maybe I will ask to borrow it! Across East Yorkshire and

:15:41. > :15:45.Lincolnshire it has been quite lovely house there. Lovely blue sky.

:15:46. > :15:50.This will change. We are switching gears to night, because this is

:15:51. > :15:55.coming from the West. This weather front is slowly coming across

:15:56. > :16:00.eastern parts. I do not want to play it up too much because the rain is

:16:01. > :16:05.quite light and patchy. It will be quite mild as well have around 10

:16:06. > :16:10.Celsius. Low temperatures tonight but breezy and time. High waters,

:16:11. > :16:16.Hull at 12.40. Rising tomorrow morning at 6.20 seven. As the

:16:17. > :16:19.weather feature is quite lethargic it does not want to leave ours but

:16:20. > :16:24.it will gradually go, despite being laid-back. A bit of rain continuing

:16:25. > :16:30.in part of Lincolnshire, for example. Brighter further north with

:16:31. > :16:33.some sunny spells developing as the clouds are breaking up. Feeling

:16:34. > :16:38.cooler than today, especially in southern and eastern areas, where we

:16:39. > :16:42.hang onto that cloud but are still getting to around 12 or 13 Celsius

:16:43. > :16:48.with a northerly or north-westerly breeze. The week ahead very

:16:49. > :16:51.quickly... We have this area of high pressure. We like high pressure

:16:52. > :16:56.because it does keep the weather settled and dry much of the time.

:16:57. > :17:02.Keeping the weather fronts away and a low pressure. We will take it.

:17:03. > :17:06.That will stay on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and possibly

:17:07. > :17:11.beyond. So that means the picture we are painting is mostly settled and

:17:12. > :17:16.dry, as well. Feeling relatively mild, not as warm as perhaps today,

:17:17. > :17:20.we are seeing textures into the middle scenes but you can see on the

:17:21. > :17:24.outlook it is not a bad one. I think we will take it, because we will see

:17:25. > :17:31.a bit of sunshine in the mix, as well. We like high pressure, do we?

:17:32. > :17:36.We really do, yes. That is what I get from you, so inaccurate and so

:17:37. > :17:42.well turned out. The rest of us here looks so scruffy next to you. Bless

:17:43. > :17:45.you, not at all! We look forward to the bunny outfit!

:17:46. > :17:48.Lincoln City could take a big step towards promotion back

:17:49. > :17:52.The Imps play Dagenham and Redbridge at Sincil Bank and if they win

:17:53. > :17:54.they could move three points clear of second placed Tranmere.

:17:55. > :18:03.Well, it isn't going to be an easy game for Lincoln,

:18:04. > :18:05.but the team are still top of the National League

:18:06. > :18:08.following Saturday's win against Bromley.

:18:09. > :18:11.Substitute Billy Knott scoring the only goal of the game

:18:12. > :18:16.But with just a few weeks of the season to go,

:18:17. > :18:21.it can be a nervy time for some fans...

:18:22. > :18:25.And manager Danny Cowley has asked supporters to "enjoy it".

:18:26. > :18:30.He says, "don't wish it away or pray for the end.

:18:31. > :18:32."Life is for living. Keep believing".

:18:33. > :18:38.Well, a short while ago I spoke to John Vickers from the club...

:18:39. > :18:44.Every game is a tough game at this stage in the season. Maybe more so

:18:45. > :18:47.because Dagenham are there as well so they are looking for three points

:18:48. > :18:52.to keep themselves in the mix. They are not out of it at all. Our form

:18:53. > :18:57.at home is second to none. Confidence is high. We have not been

:18:58. > :19:01.beaten here. In time. A big night here but also important for some

:19:02. > :19:06.other local side. Let's look at the highlights of the weekend action.

:19:07. > :19:08.Hull City claimed a priceless win on Saturday.

:19:09. > :19:14.But it was West Ham that opened the scoring in the first half.

:19:15. > :19:16.Before a second-half fightback saw goals from Andrew Robertson

:19:17. > :19:20.and then this late winner from Italian defender

:19:21. > :19:22.Andrew Ranocchia, as he headed home in the 85th minute

:19:23. > :19:26.to secure a 2-1 win at the KCOM Stadium.

:19:27. > :19:29.The Tigers' hopes of staying up in the Premier League -

:19:30. > :19:40.From a first half performance we probably would've

:19:41. > :19:44.took a point if I'm being honest.

:19:45. > :19:47.Then we can see it changing and the fans getting behind us.

:19:48. > :19:49.You start believing we have got the three points.

:19:50. > :19:51.We show again with our fans we are strong.

:19:52. > :19:53.Very good, because we start to lose and after

:19:54. > :19:57.I think really we deserve this result.

:19:58. > :19:59.Not such a good day though for Scunthorpe United.

:20:00. > :20:01.An early penalty put fellow promotion hopefuls

:20:02. > :20:04.The Iron tried to get back into the game,

:20:05. > :20:07.but the hosts extended their lead with two further goals.

:20:08. > :20:11.Before Scunthorpe's Matt Crooks finally pulled a goal back in added

:20:12. > :20:13.time, but it wasn't enough - the game ending 3-1.

:20:14. > :20:23.The Mariners opened the scoring at home in League Two

:20:24. > :20:28.before Doncaster Rovers equalised - and then goals kept on coming.

:20:29. > :20:30.5-1 was the final score, putting Doncaster within touching

:20:31. > :20:38.Our local rugby teams were also in action at the weekend.

:20:39. > :20:41.You can see highlights of Hull FC's draw with Warrington Wolves

:20:42. > :20:46.on tonight's Super League Show on BBC One at 11.45pm.

:20:47. > :20:48.Meanwhile, Hull Kingston Rovers remain unbeaten this season
