:00:09. > :00:16.After a string of bad results, Hull City announce in the last hour

:00:17. > :00:18.they have sacked their head coach, Mike Phelan.

:00:19. > :00:20.Business booms and Hull sparkles in the first three days

:00:21. > :00:24.We a had group of four people in this morning that have come from

:00:25. > :00:28.Swansea for the full three days just because it was City of Culture.

:00:29. > :00:31.There is criticism as the last surviving Dambuster is snubbed

:00:32. > :00:46.A fine day for many tomorrow, but it will be windy for some of us. I will

:00:47. > :00:52.be back later in the programme with all of the details.

:00:53. > :00:55.After just three months in charge, Hull City have sacked their manager,

:00:56. > :01:00.Yesterday's 3-1 loss at West Brom left Hull in deep trouble

:01:01. > :01:04.We can go live to BBC Radio Humberside's David Burns.

:01:05. > :01:17.What do you know about the sacking, David?

:01:18. > :01:22.Well, maybe it is not entirely unexpected, though I do think

:01:23. > :01:27.personally having covered the club for a long time it is unfair. It was

:01:28. > :01:33.a bit like temp one trying to fight Luke Campbell the box with one hand

:01:34. > :01:37.tied behind his back. In terms of results, the statistics have been

:01:38. > :01:43.damning. He has only picked up one wind in a lot of games and it is a

:01:44. > :01:44.real problem for him. I don't the key had the resources to do it.

:01:45. > :01:47.I don't the key had the resources to do it.

:01:48. > :01:56.It leaves them in trouble. The owners have not invested enough in

:01:57. > :02:00.the squad but I think they will turn towards a mild who did really well

:02:01. > :02:07.at Burton Albion and has done well at Birmingham City. I think Gary

:02:08. > :02:12.Rowett is the number-1 mild on the list in terms of who they want to

:02:13. > :02:16.bring in to replace Mike Phelan. The Everett is they have to have a

:02:17. > :02:22.chance. The owners have to give them the resources to the job. I put the

:02:23. > :02:26.blame firmly at the owners but this is because the club has not been run

:02:27. > :02:31.properly since Steve Bruce left in indignation in the summer. Mike

:02:32. > :02:33.Phelan was a patsy in many ways, so you think it will be Gary Rowett but

:02:34. > :02:43.I hope it gets the resources. Organisers say the opening three

:02:44. > :02:46.days of Hull's year-long role as UK City of Culture have had a massive

:02:47. > :02:48.impact across the Tens of thousands of people

:02:49. > :02:51.flooded into the city for the opening events,

:02:52. > :02:53.starting with this large fireworks I went into the city centre tonight,

:02:54. > :02:57.where many people had You don't normally see

:02:58. > :03:02.people in the city centre at this time of night,

:03:03. > :03:05.but they are here for this 'Made in Hull' -

:03:06. > :03:07.images and sounds projected onto the buildings here

:03:08. > :03:09.in Queen Victoria Square. This, of course, is Full Fair,

:03:10. > :03:13.on the City Hall, like you have It is not just here in

:03:14. > :03:17.the Queen Victoria Square, it is also other venues

:03:18. > :03:22.across the city centre, as well. It is astonishing,

:03:23. > :03:24.that is the only word for it. It is free and it runs

:03:25. > :03:27.until Saturday, 9.00pm every night. The rise in visitors is already

:03:28. > :03:32.making a difference. Day three of City of Culture

:03:33. > :03:39.and the crowds keep coming. And that's benefitting

:03:40. > :03:42.businesses across the city. Many cafes and hotels say they have

:03:43. > :03:46.seen a huge increase in custom. We had a lot of people in last night

:03:47. > :03:50.from the 'Made in Hull'. People are coming back

:03:51. > :03:54.with relatives at the weekend. We had a group of four

:03:55. > :03:56.people in this morning who had come from Swansea

:03:57. > :03:59.for the full three After fighting among revellers

:04:00. > :04:04.on New Year's Eve in Hull, not all the press coverage

:04:05. > :04:08.has been positive. But elsewhere, City of Culture has

:04:09. > :04:11.put Hull in the headlines for all the right

:04:12. > :04:12.reasons, and organisers are trying to work out what that is

:04:13. > :04:18.worth to the city's economy. We've got people working

:04:19. > :04:20.behind-the-scenes and at the University of Hull

:04:21. > :04:23.who in the months to come will put those figures on, but, you know,

:04:24. > :04:27.people can work out for themselves the voice, the coverage,

:04:28. > :04:31.the noise that has been around Hull, It's looking really good

:04:32. > :04:38.for the rest of the year. In fact, it's even

:04:39. > :04:40.made it into the news Part of the opening event shows

:04:41. > :04:45.people from Hull posing in their favourite film

:04:46. > :04:48.roles, in a project It's even got Jim Wardlaw

:04:49. > :04:54.on national TV! I have had university

:04:55. > :04:58.friends and family down Just opening the paper

:04:59. > :05:04.and seeing me there, not So they have been pretty shocked,

:05:05. > :05:09.so, yeah, it has been great. It is great that we are

:05:10. > :05:11.taking Hullywood to The press has gone crazy,

:05:12. > :05:15.Facebook has gone crazy. Everybody seems to be joining

:05:16. > :05:18.in and having fun with them, which is great,

:05:19. > :05:24.what it's all about. It is still going on at

:05:25. > :05:29.this time of night. We were here after

:05:30. > :05:48.the war and saw it all. I think the bits of

:05:49. > :05:50.the Blitz were a little It started to get a little bit real

:05:51. > :05:55.for my mother at one stage. Particularly when you saw

:05:56. > :05:57.the buildings on fire. You will remember

:05:58. > :05:58.that, wouldn't you? The atmosphere, the amount

:05:59. > :06:04.of people, the impact it has It was so memorable,

:06:05. > :06:07.it brought tears to my I felt as though I was in

:06:08. > :06:17.the picture with it in that moment. The colours, the spectators

:06:18. > :06:23.and also I was very It must have taken many, many, many

:06:24. > :06:29.hours putting all that together. going to be like for

:06:30. > :06:33.this year, marvellous! We have really enjoyed

:06:34. > :06:36.being in Hull tonight because we have seen places we have

:06:37. > :06:38.never seen before. Would you normally be in Hull

:06:39. > :06:54.at this time of night? What a great atmosphere. The noise,

:06:55. > :07:00.the people, amazing. Was a tight you expected it? No, not at all. Didn't

:07:01. > :07:06.think they would pull it off. You thought it would be naff. You

:07:07. > :07:07.thought it would be naff! It was fantastic.

:07:08. > :07:11.Campaigners say they are stunned and angry that the last surviving

:07:12. > :07:13.Dambuster has been ignored in the New Year's Honours List.

:07:14. > :07:15.There have been calls for Johnny Johnson to be knighted

:07:16. > :07:18.for his role in the raids, which flew out of RAF

:07:19. > :07:20.Scampton in Lincolnshire, and for his charity work.

:07:21. > :07:23.Tennis player Andy Murray and comedian Ken Dodd -

:07:24. > :07:25.both knighted in the New Year's honours.

:07:26. > :07:27.But there's disappointment that Johnny Johnson,

:07:28. > :07:31.the last surviving British veteran of the famous Dambusters

:07:32. > :07:37.If you're measuring against contribution

:07:38. > :07:43.to the country or the community, then he should have been honoured.

:07:44. > :07:45.The Dambusters raid was one of the most daring

:07:46. > :07:49.of the Second World War, with crews in Lancasters dropping

:07:50. > :07:54.specially-designed bouncing bombs on German dams.

:07:55. > :07:57.Here, at the International Bomber Command Centre near Lincoln,

:07:58. > :08:01.the Dambusters are being remembered, but it's director has

:08:02. > :08:04.told me she believes, at times, the Bomber Boys,

:08:05. > :08:09.including Johnny Johnson, have been forgotten about.

:08:10. > :08:11.There has been the general lack of recognition anyway

:08:12. > :08:14.about all of that Bomber Command did, and certainly after

:08:15. > :08:20.It took 70 years for them to get any recognition at all.

:08:21. > :08:24.In the past, there has been a petition to get Johnny an honour.

:08:25. > :08:28.But today he seemed surprised by the attention.

:08:29. > :08:32.I shall feel honoured if I do get it, but it won't be for me at all,

:08:33. > :08:38.it will be for the squadron and those who gave their

:08:39. > :08:42.Those who receive an honour have been officially

:08:43. > :08:47.In Horncastle today, near to where Johnny was born,

:08:48. > :08:51.people were shocked he's still not been recognised.

:08:52. > :08:53.He should have been put in the Honours List.

:08:54. > :08:56.There are a lot of people in there who I don't

:08:57. > :09:00.We all wouldn't be here today if people like him hadn't gone

:09:01. > :09:02.forward and really fought for our country.

:09:03. > :09:05.I think that is the kind of person we really do need

:09:06. > :09:10.But, for now, Johnny will have to continue waiting and see if he's

:09:11. > :09:35.included when the next honours are announced.

:09:36. > :09:42.There are reports of an earthquake in the North Sea. The tremor was

:09:43. > :09:44.detected 100 miles east of Scarborough have dogger bank with a

:09:45. > :09:57.magnitude of 3.8. Good evening. We have had a lot of

:09:58. > :10:01.cloud today. There will be more in the way of Sun Chang tomorrow.

:10:02. > :10:08.Slightly milder air is pushing down from the North. That's cloud perhaps

:10:09. > :10:13.producing a few showers by the end of the night. It will not be as cold

:10:14. > :10:16.as last night, temperatures down to four or 5 degrees. Strong gusty

:10:17. > :10:23.winds developing along the coast through the night. They will remain

:10:24. > :10:30.tomorrow. Some showers will be blown in on gusty breeze. Apart from that,

:10:31. > :10:34.some fine winter sunshine. A very frosty start to Thursday, and a fine

:10:35. > :10:40.day to come. BBC Radio Lincolnshire will have

:10:41. > :10:45.more, BBC Radio Humberside will, we'll have more on the earthquake

:10:46. > :10:51.story of the East Coast, and on tonight's story of Hull City parting

:10:52. > :10:55.company with Mike Phelan. Those other frequencies. I will be back

:10:56. > :11:02.tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.. Good night.

:11:03. > :11:10.milder later in the week. That is it from me but coming up next is the

:11:11. > :11:14.national picture. Good evening. But frost or not of frost, that is the

:11:15. > :11:15.weather question for tomorrow and
