:01:39. > :01:42.Then they tell you that you are going to go into a draw.

:01:53. > :01:57.The gentleman in receipt of this mail has been known to get
:01:58. > :02:04.He, like many others, has found himself on a list
:02:05. > :02:08.being passed between fraudsters, a list of people particularly
:02:09. > :02:14.vulnerable and it just results in more and more mail.
:02:15. > :02:18.Over the past year Trading Standards in Lincolnshire has been working
:02:19. > :02:24.to a list of 1500 identified victims of mail marketing scams.
:02:25. > :02:28.But during that time the list has grown to more than 2000.
:02:29. > :02:33.That includes those targeted over the internet and telephone.
:02:34. > :02:37.Some are spending up to ?700 a month.
:02:38. > :02:40.But they say these figures are the tip of the iceberg
:02:41. > :02:44.and are visiting victims to try and get them to stop.
:02:45. > :02:49.Ultimately, people can end up without any money,
:02:50. > :02:53.without their home, in care and it does happen in Lincolnshire.
:02:54. > :02:57.This man's mother, also living in Lincolnshire,
:02:58. > :03:01.has been scammed and he is calling for a bigger police response.
:03:02. > :03:05.The police have got to accept that this is a major crime.
:03:06. > :03:09.Each ?15, ?20, ?30 cheque is a tiny amount of money
:03:10. > :03:16.in the police's terms, I understand that.
:03:17. > :03:19.but actually when you add all this lot together, this is happening
:03:20. > :03:24.9.4 billion going out of the country.
:03:25. > :03:29.That's going towards trafficking, towards drugs, towards terrorism.
:03:30. > :03:33.These scams are orchestrated by gangs of criminals, often working
:03:34. > :03:37.abroad, but the individual impact is huge.
:03:38. > :03:45.We're joined by reporter Jake Zuckerman.
:03:46. > :03:48.What's being done to prevent people falling victim
:03:49. > :03:55.Well, Peter, taking the lead in the UK's fight against fraud
:03:56. > :03:58.is the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau, which is run
:03:59. > :04:06.The NFIB collates all the millions of reports of fraud and cybercrime
:04:07. > :04:13.and uses them to identify serial offenders and organised gangs.
:04:14. > :04:16.Where there's enough evidence for a prosecution,
:04:17. > :04:19.it will forward that information to the relevant police force
:04:20. > :04:25.The bureau says it doesn't investigate every report of fraud -
:04:26. > :04:28.rather, it aims to use its intelligence to disrupt
:04:29. > :04:35.This might mean, for example, working with services
:04:36. > :04:38.like the Royal Mail to try to stop fraudsters being able to
:04:39. > :04:48.They do this by cutting off their mailing contracts.
:04:49. > :04:52.A court has heard how a former P crew member bragged to an undercover
:04:53. > :04:54.officer that he'd earned ?100,000 from smuggling cocaine
:04:55. > :04:59.The jury was told how a worker planned to adapt a high-vis

:05:07. > :05:09.The court heard how 51-year-old Edward Tron described his life
:05:10. > :05:14.as a dream when he was earning more than ?100,000 allegedly smuggling
:05:15. > :05:18.cocaine into the UK on the Pride of Hull from Rotterdam.
:05:19. > :05:22.The jury was played secret filming from inside an undercover officer's
:05:23. > :05:26.car in which Mr Tron allegedly confesses to repeatedly
:05:27. > :05:33.The court heard that Mr Tron was earning ?20,000 as ship steward,
:05:34. > :05:38.but that he banked ?138,000 in four years, and it's claimed these
:05:39. > :05:42.were the proceeds of smuggling cocaine which he simply walked off
:05:43. > :05:45.the ferry with, unchecked by customs officers.
:05:46. > :05:50.He's on trial along with another former P employee, Mark Quilliam,
:05:51. > :05:54.seen here covering his face with a newspaper.
:05:55. > :05:58.The two are accused of conspiring to import cocaine.
:05:59. > :06:01.Edward Tron's wife, Susan, is also on trial for laundering

:06:09. > :06:16.Staff who work for Northern trains are to vote on taking strike action

:07:50. > :07:54.But one football expert thinks it'll take more than a change of head
:07:55. > :07:56.coach to keep Hull City in the Premier League.
