:01:04. > :01:06.A damning survey of Humberside Police staff has revealed a complete

:01:07. > :01:08.lack of confidence in the leadership of Justine Curran, the Chief

:01:09. > :01:12.The details have been made public for the first time

:01:13. > :01:20.today, by the Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter.

:01:21. > :01:23.He's the one who told Justine Curran he thought she should leave the job.

:01:24. > :01:26.Now one union says the new Chief Constable -

:01:27. > :01:28.when appointed - HAS to take staff concerns seriously.

:01:29. > :01:34.Katy Austin has been looking at the findings of the survey.

:01:35. > :01:36.39% of staff responded to this survey

:01:37. > :01:38.which was carried out in September last year when Justine

:01:39. > :01:42.Of those 67% did not have confidence in chief

:01:43. > :01:47.officers and senior managers leading Humberside Police.

:01:48. > :01:49.84% said changes within the force are not

:01:50. > :01:54.67% said chief officers and senior were not open or

:01:55. > :01:59.68% did not think Humberside Police cared about its

:02:00. > :02:04.It will be up to the new Chief Constable to try to change

:02:05. > :02:08.Now Justine Curran has cleared her desk, the search is on

:02:09. > :02:12.We asked some victims of crime what they want from the new

:02:13. > :02:16.James' launderettes in Hull have been

:02:17. > :02:25.More visible policing on the streets.

:02:26. > :02:29.When the police are able to get on the streets we have seen some

:02:30. > :02:31.really good results but we don't see that same

:02:32. > :02:35.These Scunthorpe residents are trying to keep their allotment

:02:36. > :02:40.One gardener told me what he hopes for

:02:41. > :02:45.We haven't got enough police in this area.

:02:46. > :02:51.The union that represents some police staff, says raising police

:02:52. > :02:53.morale should be a priority for the new chief.

:02:54. > :02:57.It has been very difficult, very turbulent, morale's very low.

:02:58. > :03:00.I want to see a new Chief Constable that engages with the workforce,

:03:01. > :03:04.so it's not just about listening, it's about listening and taking

:03:05. > :03:10.seriously the views of the workforce.

:03:11. > :03:13.The Police and Crime Commissioner says they'll need to regain faith

:03:14. > :03:21.engage the workforce for the communities of this area.

:03:22. > :03:33.It also means they need to be a good communicator because that

:03:34. > :03:35.relationship with those communities need to be built by the leadership

:03:36. > :03:38.Also not just the officers on the streets.

:03:39. > :03:40.Staff morale is just one challenge Humberside's new police

:03:41. > :03:44.Shift patterns introduced by Justine Curran in 2015 and went

:03:45. > :03:47.Inspectors gave the force and where inadequate

:03:48. > :03:50.year later concluded improvement was still needed.

:03:51. > :03:57.Inspectors are due to release another report next week.

:03:58. > :04:00.Put this against the background of Government funding cuts and large

:04:01. > :04:03.staffing cuts and rising crime and it seems Humberside's new Chief

:04:04. > :04:15.Constable will have quite a job to do.

:04:16. > :04:21.So how do you recruit a new Chief Constable?

:04:22. > :04:23.Well, Keith Hunter is starting today.

:04:24. > :04:25.He's writing to all police officers in the UK who might fit

:04:26. > :04:27.the job description, telling them there's a vacancy.

:04:28. > :04:30.existing Chief Constables, their deputies and assistants.

:04:31. > :04:33.round police magazines, job advert websites,

:04:34. > :04:37.advertised abroad for a new Chief Constable.

:04:38. > :04:41.As for how much the new chief will earn - well, that's

:04:42. > :04:52.-- Humberside. a year for the Humberisde force.

:04:53. > :04:54.Around 70 people have lost their jobs at a medical

:04:55. > :05:07.These were the scenes outside Sutton Manufacturing Solutions,

:05:08. > :05:10.as staff learned the company had gone into administration -

:05:11. > :05:13.and that they wouldn't be paid for work they've done this month.

:05:14. > :05:15.I'm joined now by our reporter Jill Archbold.

:05:16. > :05:21.You've been speaking to staff today -- how much of a shock was this?

:05:22. > :05:24.It was certainly a shock for staff who told me this afternoon

:05:25. > :05:27.that the companies order book had been full - but there had

:05:28. > :05:29.been warning signs - some staff had been made redundant

:05:30. > :05:32.at the end of last year and more recently some had been told

:05:33. > :05:36.Today a meeting was called - staff were summoned to the factory

:05:37. > :05:39.by a text message - and when they arrived they were told

:05:40. > :05:41.the company had gone into administration and their jobs

:05:42. > :05:45.Staff say they were disappointed that none of the companies directors

:05:46. > :05:48.Staff say they were disappointed that none of the companies directors

:05:49. > :05:50.I worked for this company for 15 years.

:05:51. > :05:53.And since his people have took over, the last two years, they

:05:54. > :06:00.I was due my money at the end of January and

:06:01. > :06:02.never received a penny of my redundancy off them.

:06:03. > :06:12.I've had a hunch that it was going under and so came here

:06:13. > :06:14.Travelled all the way from Worcestershire.

:06:15. > :06:17.I'm 62 now so I've still got to find another job.

:06:18. > :06:21.Adminstrators say they've been trying to find a buyer

:06:22. > :06:23.for the company which make dental supplies - but these efforts

:06:24. > :06:31.The staff have been told they won't receive a pay check this month -

:06:32. > :06:36.and have been given information today about how they apply

:06:37. > :06:40.The owners, who took charge in 2012, are from Croatia -

:06:41. > :06:43.this afternoon they were not answering the only working phone

:06:44. > :06:52.We will let you know of any developments on that story.

:06:53. > :06:54.Inspectors have returned to East Midlands Ambulance Service

:06:55. > :06:55.today, following a critical report last year.

:06:56. > :06:58.The Care Quality Commission had criticised a shortage of staff

:06:59. > :07:00.and vehicles and said the trust needed to reduce delays

:07:01. > :07:03.EMAS bosses say that improvements have been made

:07:04. > :07:10.Police have finished confiscating thousands of weapons

:07:11. > :07:16.Officers were called to Skydock at Faldingworth near Market Rasen

:07:17. > :07:18.last week after the Home Office withdrew its licence.

:07:19. > :07:23.More needs to be done to reduce the amount of plastic being found

:07:24. > :07:27.That's according to scientists, who say the problem of marine

:07:28. > :07:29.litter is more widespread than once thought.

:07:30. > :07:32.It's believed some of the first plastics ever made are

:07:33. > :07:33.still floating around and harming sea life.

:07:45. > :07:54.Hidden in the stones they're finding dozens of pieces of plastic waste -

:07:55. > :07:57.and these young volunteers know all too well why this

:07:58. > :08:05.Animals can pick it up and they can eat it.

:08:06. > :08:08.And the chemicals can upset their stomach when it gets inside.

:08:09. > :08:09.In summer there's a bunch of birds go

:08:10. > :08:12.up on the cliffs and plastic and rubbish on the beach

:08:13. > :08:20.Earlier this month we reported on the discovery of nearly a mile

:08:21. > :08:25.of plastic waste at the mouth of the Humber at Spurn.

:08:26. > :08:29.And this is only the plastic we can see.

:08:30. > :08:46.that these break down in the sea, they get

:08:47. > :08:48.smaller and smaller, they get digested by birds and by fish.

:08:49. > :08:54.They pick up so much plastic rubbish here at Flamborough

:08:55. > :08:56.they even turn into wall art to highlight the problem.

:08:57. > :08:58.The scale of the amount of rubbish that

:08:59. > :09:01.is out in our seas is much greater than we maybe originally thought.

:09:02. > :09:05.It really is an issue that we really need to be able to battle now.

:09:06. > :09:09.Scientists believe the 5p charge on plastic shopping bags has

:09:10. > :09:17.One thing that would be a good idea is to bring

:09:18. > :09:29.Getting people to learn how to recycle.

:09:30. > :09:32.There are many more beach cleans-ups planned for the coming months -

:09:33. > :09:48.these help of course but the stuff that is being washed up

:09:49. > :09:50.reperesents just a fraction of the litter in our seas.

:10:43. > :10:47.Feeling noticeably colder tomorrow with highs of about eight

:10:48. > :10:50.Again we are hanging onto that breeze.

:10:51. > :10:51.On Thursday this area of low pressure

:10:52. > :11:03.Outbreaks of heavy rain and gale force winds as well.
