:00:57. > :00:59.The impact of today's big storm has been felt

:01:00. > :01:00.across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, as thousands

:01:01. > :01:03.of homes were left without power and trees were brought down.

:01:04. > :01:06.Strong winds of up to seventy miles per hour ripped

:01:07. > :01:09.through the area, blocking roads and disrupting public transport.

:01:10. > :01:13.One driver in Spalding had a lucky escape as a tree fell right

:01:14. > :01:18.in front of his car, while another vehicle was crushed

:01:19. > :01:23.Our reporter Jill Archbold is in Beverley, where a busy road

:01:24. > :01:25.was brought to a standstill by a fallen tree earlier.

:01:26. > :01:42.Yes, it's house. It all seems very calm this evening but there are

:01:43. > :01:48.signs of the damage from earlier. A tree trunk collapsed on this

:01:49. > :01:54.hedgerow. -- yes it is. The tree snapped in half and a few hours ago

:01:55. > :01:59.it was lying across this busy route into Beverley. That has been the

:02:00. > :02:05.story of the day, countless images of trees across roads and pavements,

:02:06. > :02:11.in some cases even uprooted from the ground. It has been a very busy

:02:12. > :02:13.afternoon for emergency services who have been trying to react to this

:02:14. > :02:17.short but powerful storm. Southern Lincolnshire

:02:18. > :02:19.bore the brunt of Doris. In Spalding this driving instructor

:02:20. > :02:21.witnessed first hand Waves whipped-up

:02:22. > :02:24.by the wind made it slow And for those crossing the river

:02:25. > :02:31.there've been safety concerns. The Humber Bridge -

:02:32. > :02:34.closed to high-sided vehicles - but that closure is only advice -

:02:35. > :02:40.and many have made the journey. At one point

:02:41. > :02:42.Lincolnshire Police said trees were falling faster

:02:43. > :02:46.than they could tweet about them. And we've been send

:02:47. > :02:51.dozens of your photos. In the centre of Lincoln

:02:52. > :02:53.the wind was strong enough to bring down a wall -

:02:54. > :02:56.damaging a car - There was a big gust of wind

:02:57. > :03:07.and we saw the wall crashing down. It all happened like slow motion

:03:08. > :03:10.and then you heard this really loud We have had strong winds before

:03:11. > :03:14.but to witness something like By late afternoon it was estimated

:03:15. > :03:18.that nearly 5,000 properties were without power across Lincolnshire -

:03:19. > :03:20.and as darkness fell around half of those homes

:03:21. > :03:38.were still waiting for repairs. At seven o'clock this evening, there

:03:39. > :03:45.were 2500 homes across Lincolnshire who were still without power. As of

:03:46. > :03:48.tonight 1600 homes are still waiting to be reconnected. Although there

:03:49. > :03:53.have been reports of windows blown in and people swept off their feet,

:03:54. > :03:58.luckily it seems there haven't been any serious injuries in our region.

:04:01. > :04:02.A motorcyclist has died following a crash in North Lincolnshire.

:04:03. > :04:05.The 37-year-old man was travelling on Holmes Lane in Bottesford

:04:06. > :04:07.yesterday evening when his bike came off the road.

:04:08. > :04:10.And a 31-year-old cyclist died last night in Lincolnshire.

:04:11. > :04:13.It was following a collision with a car on the A158

:04:14. > :04:16.It happened at about quarter to nine.

:04:17. > :04:20.Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

:04:21. > :04:22.Fire crews were called out to tackle a fire

:04:23. > :04:26.Six fire engines were called to a storage building

:04:27. > :04:28.for Dynex Semi-Conductors on Doddington Road.

:04:29. > :04:35.It started just after four o'clock this afternoon.

:04:36. > :04:38.A tax on sugary drinks will help to reduce the number

:04:39. > :04:40.of overweight children in North Lincolnshire.

:04:41. > :04:44.That's according to a leading diet expert from the area,

:04:45. > :04:50.where more than a fifth of children leaving primary school

:04:51. > :04:53.Families are now being given help to manage diets and lifestyles,

:04:54. > :04:56.amid concerns the country faces a diabetes epidemic.

:04:57. > :04:59.Our Health Correspondent Vicky Johnson has been looking at how

:05:00. > :05:09.The soft drinks industry levy will be introduced in 2018,

:05:10. > :05:11.allowing companies time to change their recipes.

:05:12. > :05:14.The amount of tax will depend on the amount of sugar in the drink.

:05:15. > :05:17.Pure fruit juices and milk-based drinks will be exempt.

:05:18. > :05:21.The Government says it expects to raise more than half

:05:22. > :05:24.a billion pounds from the tax in the first year alone.

:05:25. > :05:27.Much of that will fund things like breakfast clubs and sports,

:05:28. > :05:32.to encourage children to eat and be healthier.

:05:33. > :05:34.Sugar has become almost as big an enemy to our health,

:05:35. > :05:37.according to some experts, as alcohol or tobacco.

:05:38. > :05:42.Fanta, do we think that is higher or lower than the Slush Puppy?

:05:43. > :05:44.Part of the Get Going programme in North Lincolnshire aims

:05:45. > :05:47.to educate families about nutrition, especially the sugar

:05:48. > :05:55.We do a task around ketchup and also other sauces and people don't

:05:56. > :06:00.realise how much sugar is in your sauces, your ketchups.

:06:01. > :06:03.The Volvic one really surprised me when I first did this.

:06:04. > :06:08.I used to drink quite a few of them and now I am like, what?

:06:09. > :06:12.I understand that sometimes you have got to have sugar in these things

:06:13. > :06:15.but I think the amount they put in can be a bit excessive.

:06:16. > :06:18.More than 20% of children who leave primary schools across Lincolnshire

:06:19. > :06:22.and East Yorkshire are classed as obese and the Sykes family say

:06:23. > :06:26.they wanted to tackle their weight problems together.

:06:27. > :06:28.I know the implications of the health issues, diabetes, etc,

:06:29. > :06:29.and I didn't want them, going forward,

:06:30. > :06:36.Last year, the then Chancellor weighed in with

:06:37. > :06:41.I can announce that we will introduce a new sugar levy

:06:42. > :06:46.I think fizzy drinks are a good thing to target and it's probably

:06:47. > :06:48.an initial initiative that there are going to be

:06:49. > :06:50.things which follow on from that, in other foods.

:06:51. > :06:56.Sugary drinks don't contain any other nutrients.

:06:57. > :07:00.We're now seeing companies bringing their sugar

:07:01. > :07:04.levels down by 40% which is way over what was asked

:07:05. > :07:06.so the fear of God has been put in companies saying

:07:07. > :07:11.unless you bring your sugar content down we will tax you.

:07:12. > :07:14.So the finance people are saying we're not having that and they're

:07:15. > :07:19.So in the end it will be a win-win solution for everybody.

:07:20. > :07:21.But those involved in the sugar industry doubt it

:07:22. > :07:27.Consumption per head of sugars has dropped by 15% and since 2001,

:07:28. > :07:33.Others argue that this tax will hit the poor hardest and the focus

:07:34. > :07:43.be on public health campaigns, rather than through this levy.

:07:44. > :07:46.MPs from our area are warning that jobs at a Hull-based firm could be

:07:47. > :07:51.lost as the government reviews a green energy scheme.Vivergo

:07:52. > :07:54.is the largest supplier of biofuels in the UK.

:07:55. > :07:57.Currently a percentage of fuel sold at petrol stations needs to come

:07:58. > :07:59.from biofuels but Ministers have been consulting on plans

:08:00. > :08:16.The Minister of State will recall at our meeting in December with

:08:17. > :08:22.representatives from the company, where jobs are under threat. The

:08:23. > :08:28.consultation has now closed, can the minister in light of us as to when

:08:29. > :08:29.he will make a decision and avert the threat of redundancy?

:08:30. > :08:33.Lincolnshire Police have crushed a car suspected
