:00:49. > :00:53.They were asleep in their desolate farmhouse, a house that's been
:00:54. > :00:58.plagued by rural crime around it, when Kenneth heard noises outside.
:00:59. > :01:00.He got dressed and went down to investigate,
:01:01. > :01:07.He said he didn't see any people, but walked across the front
:01:08. > :01:10.of what he thought was a vehicle when that vehicle revved up
:01:11. > :01:16.He said that he was terrified and fired two shots,
:01:17. > :01:19.one into the air and one down the side of the vehicle.
:01:20. > :01:22.He said he fired the shots to scare anyone away.
:01:23. > :01:25.But down the side of that vehicle was Richard Stables,
:01:26. > :01:28.a convicted burglar who said he was there to hunt
:01:29. > :01:34.Outside of court today, Mr Hugill's family criticised
:01:35. > :01:36.what they say was a very heavy-handed response
:01:37. > :01:53.In a response, Humberside Police have told us...
:01:54. > :01:56.The CPS have also defended their decision to bring this
:01:57. > :02:00.case to court after that decision was criticised.
:02:01. > :02:02.They say it was in the public interest considering that
:02:03. > :02:08.That decision will be debated tonight in the pub here.
:02:09. > :02:11.We were speaking to people earlier who were also debating how far
:02:12. > :02:14.people should be allowed to go to defend their homes.

:02:35. > :02:39.I spoke to Mr Hugill this evening, who said that him and his wife
:02:40. > :02:42.are hoping for some peace now after what has been a very
:02:43. > :02:51.A 31-year-old man has died and two fire fighters have been
:02:52. > :02:55.hurt following a fire and explosion in Hull.
:02:56. > :02:58.The emergency services were called to the house containing five flats
:02:59. > :03:05.The building exploded shortly after fire crews arrived.
:03:06. > :03:08.Two adults and a child were rescued, but one man was seriously hurt
:03:09. > :03:13.In terms of housekeeping, we would encourage all landlords
:03:14. > :03:16.to ensure they have regular checks on all their utilities,
:03:17. > :03:20.that the fire alarms are working, that there are working smoke
:03:21. > :03:22.detectors and most importantly that residents have a plan,
:03:23. > :03:27.particularly in a building that has multiple occupation.
:03:28. > :03:31.More than ?6 million is to be spent modifying a roundabout in Hull
:03:32. > :03:33.which has been the scene of several accidents.
:03:34. > :03:35.The government has allocated the cash for work
:03:36. > :03:37.on the Garrison Road roundabout, which will make the area safer

:04:27. > :04:31.There will be more lanes leaving and entering it and traffic
:04:32. > :04:37.The work should be completed by 2020 and should coincide with the planned
:04:38. > :04:41.improvements to Castle Street through the centre of Hull.
:04:42. > :04:46.If this junction here isn't improved at the same time or before
:04:47. > :04:49.the Castle Street major improvement takes place, it will become an even
:04:50. > :04:56.There have been more than 20 accidents here in recent years,
:04:57. > :04:59.including the death of a cyclist who was crushed by an unsecured
:05:00. > :05:04.container that fell off a lorry as it leaned in a turn.
:05:05. > :05:07.You can see one of the reasons why this roundabout
:05:08. > :05:12.This large lorry with a caravan on it having to lean
:05:13. > :05:18.No fault of the driver or the lorry, but planners believe that,
:05:19. > :05:22.inherently, is a dangerous situation for all traffic.
:05:23. > :05:25.This road is of huge economic importance to cities
:05:26. > :05:28.across the north of England and work to improve traffic flow and safety
:05:29. > :05:38.The Domesday Book is going to be on display in Lincoln as part
