:00:07. > :00:11.Humberside Police tell people to expect armed officers patrolling

:00:12. > :00:16.busy areas after yesterday's terror attack in London.

:00:17. > :00:22.We will be deploying our armed officers in those spaces to ensure

:00:23. > :00:23.that we give the reassurance to the public.

:00:24. > :00:26.Defiant MPs return to Westminster and vow that attacks

:00:27. > :00:30.on democracy won't divide them, or the country.

:00:31. > :00:33.Faith groups from across our area call for unity

:00:34. > :00:39.Some fine, dry and sunny weather to come over

:00:40. > :00:53.I will be back later for a look ahead to the weekend.

:00:54. > :01:00.Humberside Police say that armed officers will be

:01:01. > :01:01.patrolling busy areas after yesterday's terror

:01:02. > :01:10.It's just one of the ways that the force is stepping up policing.

:01:11. > :01:11.Five people died, including the attacker,

:01:12. > :01:13.named as Khalid Masood, who was shot dead outside

:01:14. > :01:29.Our Political Editor Tim Iredale reports now

:01:30. > :01:31.on how the region's MPs have reacted to the attack.

:01:32. > :01:33.As flags flew at half-mast, MPs from East Yorkshire

:01:34. > :01:35.and Lincolnshire joined colleagues from across the political divide

:01:36. > :01:38.in a minute's silence to pay tribute to the victims of yesterday's terror

:01:39. > :01:41.Throughout the day, MPs have been sharing stories

:01:42. > :01:44.Cleethorpes' Martin Vickers was one of the closest

:01:45. > :01:49.He was outside Parliament at the time.

:01:50. > :01:52.We then heard what we now know were three shots ring

:01:53. > :01:54.out and within seconds, my colleagues who were ahead of me

:01:55. > :01:57.in the procession, as it were, had been told to turn round,

:01:58. > :02:01.run, get out and we were told to get out of the building as quickly

:02:02. > :02:03.as possible and then, of course, the whole

:02:04. > :02:09.Despite the sense of shock and fear, MPs were determined it

:02:10. > :02:14.would be business as usual in Parliament today.

:02:15. > :02:24.The Prime Minister showed today and her opposite

:02:25. > :02:27.number has shown today, that the best way to defeat

:02:28. > :02:29.terrorism is to prove that we will not be moved

:02:30. > :02:33.As a former Home Secretary, the Hull West MP Alan Johnson knows

:02:34. > :02:36.all about the threat from terror when he described yesterday's

:02:37. > :02:38.Parliament represents something. It represents freedom.

:02:39. > :02:40.It represents democracy and it represents our defiance of these

:02:41. > :02:43.appalling acts and he didn't succeed, as many MPs

:02:44. > :02:47.He got ten yards into the gate with an appalling trail

:02:48. > :02:50.of devastation and death and terror behind him, but he didn't

:02:51. > :03:03.But once again, the question will turn to just how safe are MPs

:03:04. > :03:05.and their staff both here at Westminster

:03:06. > :03:14.We all have to make sure that if there is something

:03:15. > :03:16.we're suspicious about or if there are actions that perhaps

:03:17. > :03:19.someone we know is taking that we are worried about it

:03:20. > :03:23.It is incumbent upon all of us to work with the police

:03:24. > :03:27.and the security services whenever possible.

:03:28. > :03:30.The overall mood here today has been one of defiance.

:03:31. > :03:32.Security is still very tight, but most MPs I've spoken

:03:33. > :03:35.to so they won't let the action of any individual change

:03:36. > :03:46.Across our area, special faith services have been held today

:03:47. > :03:49.as communities have come together to support each other.

:03:50. > :03:51.Our reporter Laura Foster joins us live from Holy

:03:52. > :03:56.What's been the reaction from the police and the public

:03:57. > :04:09.They have been left shocked and saddened by happened yesterday. This

:04:10. > :04:13.spot is 200 miles from Westminster, but when you see the pictures on the

:04:14. > :04:16.television and when you hear the stories about those who died and

:04:17. > :04:21.those who were injured, it is hard not to be affected and it is hard

:04:22. > :04:25.not to think, could it happen where I live? Today the forces have said

:04:26. > :04:29.there is no information to suggest an immediate terrorism threat in our

:04:30. > :04:34.area. Humberside Police is taking action.

:04:35. > :04:35.Armed officers out today in Hull city centre.

:04:36. > :04:37.Humberside Police says this is something you're

:04:38. > :04:40.That's something many shoppers find reassuring.

:04:41. > :04:43.It's always a good idea to have a police presence, yeah, definitely.

:04:44. > :04:46.It is a shame it has to come to something like this before

:04:47. > :04:51.If you stop living your life then you're letting the terrorists win

:04:52. > :04:54.The unit which controls armed police in Lincolnshire is looking

:04:55. > :04:57.at how it deploys officers across the East Midlands,

:04:58. > :05:00.but there won't be any more regular officers patrolling in the county.

:05:01. > :05:02.Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner says that's

:05:03. > :05:06.because they're already doing everything they can.

:05:07. > :05:13.We work with regional and national colleagues to make sure we protect

:05:14. > :05:19.Experts say you should still feel safe where you live.

:05:20. > :05:21.If we look at the statistics becoming a victim

:05:22. > :05:23.of terrorism is still very unlikely even in the UK.

:05:24. > :05:26.So it is still a very, very safe place to live.

:05:27. > :05:28.Amid the talk of security, flags flew at half-mast

:05:29. > :05:32.At Scunthorpe Central Mosque, the victims of yesterday's attack

:05:33. > :05:34.were remembered in prayers and the Imam called

:05:35. > :05:47.We're very shocked at what happened yesterday in London.

:05:48. > :05:50.We as the Muslim community here in Scunthorpe north Lincolnshire,

:05:51. > :05:52.we would like to condemn what happened and we'd

:05:53. > :05:54.like to share our thoughts and prayers with the people

:05:55. > :05:58.And Ahmadiyya Muslims gave flowers to Humberside Police

:05:59. > :06:01.as a tribute to PC Keith Palmer, the officer stabbed outside

:06:02. > :06:08.At Holy Trinity Church in Hull, the usual prayer service

:06:09. > :06:11.was extended giving people more time to reflect on the horror

:06:12. > :06:18.People often like to do something because sometimes words just

:06:19. > :06:20.simply don't get through, do they, especially

:06:21. > :06:25.Living in Hull and living in London, this is an attack on our democracy

:06:26. > :06:36.A mixture of sadness, but reassurance from the authorities who

:06:37. > :06:42.say they're doing everything possible to keep people in East

:06:43. > :06:44.Yorkshire and Lincolnshire safe. Their advice is stay calm and report

:06:45. > :06:48.anything suspicious to the police. I've been speaking to Assistant

:06:49. > :06:50.Chief Constable Andy McDyer He gave me his reaction

:06:51. > :06:54.to the death of PC Keith Palmer. Assistant Chief Constable,

:06:55. > :06:56.a different force, but still one What is your reaction to the death

:06:57. > :07:02.of PC Keith Palmer yesterday? Events such as yesterday

:07:03. > :07:06.are terrible. I'd like to pay tribute to PC

:07:07. > :07:11.Keith Palmer and to give our sympathies to his family

:07:12. > :07:14.and to the family of all those Why have you decided to increase

:07:15. > :07:17.police presence in this area? After incidents such as this,

:07:18. > :07:20.we review all of our plans, so we look at our plans for example

:07:21. > :07:23.in relation to City of Culture events and we look at what more

:07:24. > :07:27.we can put in to make them safer. We will look at where we deploy our

:07:28. > :07:30.officers across the force so that we ensure we give

:07:31. > :07:32.the maximum reassurance What type of places

:07:33. > :07:37.are we talking about? Places such as the city centre

:07:38. > :07:39.in Hull, the centre of Grimsby, Beverley and anywhere elsewhere

:07:40. > :07:41.there might ablarge number Will you be using

:07:42. > :07:47.more armed officers? We will be deploying our armed

:07:48. > :07:51.officers in those spaces to ensure that we're giving reassurance

:07:52. > :07:53.to the public. It is not about using more,

:07:54. > :07:56.it is about putting the right resource in the right place

:07:57. > :07:58.at the right time. So no increase in numbers?

:07:59. > :08:00.No. Is there any suggestion that this

:08:01. > :08:04.area is under threat? There is no information

:08:05. > :08:05.or intelligence to say the Humberside area is under

:08:06. > :08:10.any increased threat. So why increase what you

:08:11. > :08:12.have announced today? The threat level remains at severe

:08:13. > :08:15.for the whole of the United Kingdom What is your message

:08:16. > :08:21.to people at home? Natwest is closing

:08:22. > :08:33.dozens more branches In this area, branches in Bourne,

:08:34. > :08:38.Sleaford, Horncastle and on Newark Road in Lincoln

:08:39. > :08:50.will shut in September. Health officials say they're working

:08:51. > :08:53.to bring back some medical services to Wainfleet in Lincolnshire,

:08:54. > :08:55.following the loss of It will be 30 million Inside debt by

:08:56. > :09:05.the end of the month. Health officials say they're working

:09:06. > :09:07.to bring back some medical services to Wainfleet in Lincolnshire,

:09:08. > :09:09.following the loss of The practice was shut in November

:09:10. > :09:13.following concerns about safety, NHS managers say they are working

:09:14. > :09:17.with another provider and will be The practice was shut in November

:09:18. > :09:38.following concerns about safety, Virtual Wilberforce has been created

:09:39. > :09:40.by a team of experts to mark the 210th anniversary

:09:41. > :09:42.of the Slave Trade Act. Tonight, the city's monument to one

:09:43. > :09:45.of their most famous residents It's a part of the

:09:46. > :09:48.fabric of the city. It has always been a beacon

:09:49. > :09:51.of liberty across the region. What we're hoping to do by lighting

:09:52. > :09:53.it and attracting attention to it is again energising this whole

:09:54. > :10:00.Wilberforce story. We've got some fine weather to come

:10:01. > :10:12.over the next couple of days. It remains settled through Sunday,

:10:13. > :10:14.but by then more cloud. Both Friday and Saturday

:10:15. > :10:16.will be fine and there Not very much change as we go

:10:17. > :10:23.through the next few hours. Perhaps a little bit more cloud

:10:24. > :10:25.creeping into parts of Lincolnshire, Rurally temperatures

:10:26. > :10:33.will be lower than this. Don't rule out inland rurally

:10:34. > :10:35.a touch of ground frost. There might be a little bit more

:10:36. > :10:40.cloud across parts of Lincolnshire, All of us enjoying plenty

:10:41. > :10:44.of afternoon sunshine and for inland spots it will feel warm

:10:45. > :10:46.in the afternoon sunshine, Our next news is tomorrow
