:00:00. > :00:12.The headlines from BBC Look North this Monday night...

:00:13. > :00:14.People who abuse travellers and gypsies online are told

:00:15. > :00:19.they will not get away with it by police.

:00:20. > :00:26.It is like it is the last community in this country where people feel

:00:27. > :00:28.they can say that kind of thing with immunity. Well, they are not going

:00:29. > :00:28.to get immunity. New laws to protect

:00:29. > :00:30.children from grooming A man's jailed after a cash

:00:31. > :00:34.machine was ripped from Plenty of decent weather

:00:35. > :00:37.across East Yorkshire The Humberside Police

:00:38. > :00:57.and Crime Commissioner says his force will prosecute people

:00:58. > :01:00.who make extreme comments on social Keith Hunter says some people

:01:01. > :01:05.are committing hate crimes and the force will target those

:01:06. > :01:09.who post threatening comments Our correspondent

:01:10. > :01:17.Vicky Johnson has more. They are often portrayed

:01:18. > :01:19.in the media as unwelcome visitors. And when travellers

:01:20. > :01:24.recently pitched up near Hull the anger of some locals

:01:25. > :01:28.erupted on social media. Many posted abusive

:01:29. > :01:35.comments online, ranging from calling travellers vermin

:01:36. > :01:38.to threats to harm them. People have been writing

:01:39. > :01:40.things in encouraging people to burn out these caravans

:01:41. > :01:43.with women and children inside. If people threatened

:01:44. > :01:44.to burn down churches, synagogues and mosques,

:01:45. > :01:47.people would rightly crying out that But with gypsies and

:01:48. > :01:50.travellers it is like they are the last community where

:01:51. > :01:53.people feel they can say that kind This is one of the trailers that

:01:54. > :02:05.I live in with my family. Ryalla Duffy is a Romany gypsy

:02:06. > :02:08.who tries to build bridges with the but she says online abuse

:02:09. > :02:16.is very damaging. It makes me feel fearful

:02:17. > :02:21.for my children, my grandchildren. It makes me feel separate

:02:22. > :02:24.from the rest of the community. It is very debilitating

:02:25. > :02:28.for young people, most of whom are online,

:02:29. > :02:35.reading comments like that. There have been complaints

:02:36. > :02:41.right across the area from Grimsby to Goole about the mess

:02:42. > :02:48.left by some travellers and gypsies. While there are some permanent sites

:02:49. > :02:51.there are no specific stopover places in Hull, Northern

:02:52. > :02:53.Lincolnshire or East Yorkshire. The council have failed

:02:54. > :02:55.in their obligation So families do not have an option

:02:56. > :02:59.about where they live and where they Every community has individuals

:03:00. > :03:07.you might call bad apples. For the Humberside Police

:03:08. > :03:09.and Crime Commissioner, We must draw a line in the sand

:03:10. > :03:15.and say it is not acceptable for anybody to use threatening

:03:16. > :03:19.and abusive language. Police are warning anybody

:03:20. > :03:22.found posting hate filled comments about gypsies

:03:23. > :03:24.and travellers The company that runs

:03:25. > :03:34.many of the Humber Ports says it's investing ?50 million in sites

:03:35. > :03:38.in Hull and Immingham. ABP says it will put in new cranes

:03:39. > :03:42.and double the capacity of both The company says it follows four

:03:43. > :03:45.years of substantial growth in the volume of goods passing

:03:46. > :03:49.through its ports. Children's charities have welcomed

:03:50. > :03:54.the introduction of new laws to help police stop people who try to groom

:03:55. > :03:57.youngsters through social The new powers mean officers will be

:03:58. > :04:06.able to intervene earlier before any There were 93 reports last year

:04:07. > :04:10.to police in Yorkshire and the Humber of children meeting

:04:11. > :04:12.paedophiles after In Lincolnshire there were 50

:04:13. > :04:20.incidents over the last five years. Helen Westman is from the Northern

:04:21. > :04:24.branch of the NSPCC. I asked her what impact these

:04:25. > :04:29.new powers will have. The police will be able to intervene

:04:30. > :04:34.earlier to protect children The law came into being in 2015,

:04:35. > :04:40.but it has taken two years for the government to sign the paperwork

:04:41. > :04:43.to enact the law, but from today The police wanted

:04:44. > :04:47.these powers, so how From today, it will be

:04:48. > :04:55.illegal for an adult to send messages to children

:04:56. > :04:59.of a sexual nature. If a child receives that kind

:05:00. > :05:04.of message, they will be able to inform a trusted

:05:05. > :05:06.adult in their life, who can then inform the police

:05:07. > :05:09.and it can be stopped. That person can be prosecuted

:05:10. > :05:11.and they can go to Presumably we only

:05:12. > :05:15.find out about a small Because you have to get the child

:05:16. > :05:22.to know that it is wrong That's why educating our

:05:23. > :05:25.children is so important. So us as parents and

:05:26. > :05:30.professionals need to speak to children early and often

:05:31. > :05:33.about how to stay safe online. That is when they get their first

:05:34. > :05:36.mobile phone and tablet, if they receive anything they are

:05:37. > :05:41.worried or upset about, to tell the trusted adult and keep

:05:42. > :05:46.the message secure, not to respond to it but share it

:05:47. > :05:49.with a trusted adult. catching enough of these

:05:50. > :05:52.people and not enough We want children to be as safe

:05:53. > :05:58.in the online world as the Perpetrators need to know that

:05:59. > :06:03.if they do something which is illegal and inappropriate,

:06:04. > :06:06.they will be prosecuted. Every parent is going to be

:06:07. > :06:10.very interested in this. What's the best advice for them

:06:11. > :06:13.if they have young children who sit and play in the bedroom

:06:14. > :06:15.on their devices? Don't assume your child,

:06:16. > :06:18.just because they are in the house, Talk to them about

:06:19. > :06:24.what they like to do online, who they talk to online

:06:25. > :06:26.and what they would do if they received a message that

:06:27. > :06:29.worried or upset them. Let them know they can

:06:30. > :06:31.come to you as a parent or another trusted adult

:06:32. > :06:33.to share that experience. Helen Westman earlier, from the

:06:34. > :06:48.NSPCC. A 22-year-old man has been

:06:49. > :06:51.jailed for four years The ATM, containing nearly ?40,000,

:06:52. > :06:57.was ripped from the wall of the Spa shop in Thorngumbald with a stolen

:06:58. > :07:00.digger in February. Targeted by thieves in February -

:07:01. > :07:03.the cash point at this shop in Thorngumbold,

:07:04. > :07:07.stolen in a ram raid. But today, as the gang behind

:07:08. > :07:10.it is still to be arrested, 22-year-old Lewis Holdstock

:07:11. > :07:18.from Southcoates Lane in Hull pleaded guilty to stealing a JCB

:07:19. > :07:32.from a local farm and using it It has been distressing because a

:07:33. > :07:35.lot of people relied upon it, especially older people. And they

:07:36. > :07:41.have not got anywhere to get any cash out. It is very distressing and

:07:42. > :07:46.it has upset everybody, as well. The judge told the defendant he was

:07:47. > :07:50.probably not the brains behind the operation but had nonetheless taken

:07:51. > :07:53.part in a sophisticated crime. He sentenced him to four years in

:07:54. > :07:57.prison and said he would spend at least half that time behind bars and

:07:58. > :07:59.the rest in a community sentence. Thieves failed to escape

:08:00. > :08:01.with the ?38,000 worth of cash in the machine,

:08:02. > :08:04.but they caused ?68,000 worth I went to the chemist

:08:05. > :08:08.and they said, have you seen I had seen several similar

:08:09. > :08:15.sorts of villages, maybe a bit larger than this,

:08:16. > :08:17.having the same thing happen. Eight cash machines have been taken

:08:18. > :08:26.in this area in the last In a statement the

:08:27. > :08:39.police have said... Meanwhile the shop here is waiting

:08:40. > :08:42.to return to normal, with repairs More than ?10 million of government

:08:43. > :08:54.money will be invested in seaside Hornsea and Cleethorpes

:08:55. > :08:57.are the biggest winners, It is hoped the investment

:08:58. > :09:03.will create jobs and help the towns One idea is to create

:09:04. > :09:12.a new tourism area in Hornsea. What we're going to do is create

:09:13. > :09:17.a very attractive cafe here on this south promenade so that when people

:09:18. > :09:20.have walked along here, they can come and sit, they can picnic,

:09:21. > :09:29.they can watch the fishermen... Councillor Jane Everson talking in

:09:30. > :09:33.Hornsea earlier today. Lincoln City are three points clear

:09:34. > :09:36.at the top of the National League after a two-nil win over

:09:37. > :09:38.Dagenham this evening. Elliott Whitehouse got the first

:09:39. > :09:40.early in the second half. Before Matt Read sealed the win

:09:41. > :09:47.midway through the second half. Decent enough day across

:09:48. > :09:54.East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We are switching gears

:09:55. > :09:56.tonight as a weather Outbreaks of generally

:09:57. > :10:02.light rain and drizzle, Temperatures overnight

:10:03. > :10:08.holding up nicely. We're talking about lows

:10:09. > :10:10.of nine or 10 Celsius. Tomorrow morning will be

:10:11. > :10:17.a fairly grey start. Yes, we will see dribs and drabs

:10:18. > :10:20.of drizzle as it slowly and methodically makes its way

:10:21. > :10:24.across eastern parts. But brightening up

:10:25. > :10:25.across northern parts in particular, with

:10:26. > :10:29.sunny spells on offer. Temperatures getting

:10:30. > :10:31.to around 12 or 13 Celsius. High pressure is firmly

:10:32. > :10:36.in charge of things in the Keeping these weather fronts away

:10:37. > :10:43.and low pressure, as well. A dry story, plenty of sunny spells

:10:44. > :10:57.and feeling relatively That is it from us tonight. Thank

:10:58. > :11:00.you for watching. We are back tomorrow and I am back at our past

:11:01. > :11:01.six tomorrow night. Join us if you can. Good night.

:11:02. > :11:09.is remaining settled. It will feel fairly warm and dry as well.

:11:10. > :11:17.Good evening. Some rain spreading in across the Atlantic overnight. As it

:11:18. > :11:21.does so we will see some fresh Atlantic air following on from

:11:22. > :11:28.behind. The pollen levels will drop but the temperatures will also drop.

:11:29. > :11:32.Some rain to go with the cloud. It is moving its way from west to east.

:11:33. > :11:37.Drying up in not an island and eventually it will dry up in most of

:11:38. > :11:43.Scotland. The fresher Atlantic air is following on behind. In major

:11:44. > :11:46.towns and cities it will be five, 6 degrees. Across England and Wales

:11:47. > :11:54.there would be extensive cloud cover. It will be a pretty grey and

:11:55. > :11:59.wet start to some parts of Wales and the South West of England. Not much

:12:00. > :12:06.rain by eight o'clock in the morning. Pretty grey, misty and

:12:07. > :12:08.murky for some. Head further north and not much rain
