:00:14. > :00:16.who sexually abused children in his care.

:00:17. > :00:18.We can't show him to protect his victims,

:00:58. > :01:02.dry weather. A former foster carer from Hull

:01:03. > :01:04.who raped his granddaughter and sexually abused other children

:01:05. > :01:07.has been jailed for 19 years. We can't name the 64-year-old man

:01:08. > :01:10.to protect the identity of his victims, but they also

:01:11. > :01:15.include children placed in his care Concerns were first raised in 2011,

:01:16. > :01:27.when neighbours became worried about noises and started

:01:28. > :01:31.to record them. The footage showed sexually

:01:32. > :01:35.inappropriate remarks from the carer to children he was supposed

:01:36. > :01:39.to be looking after. At the time, there wasn't enough

:01:40. > :01:42.evidence to prosecute, but the children were taken away

:01:43. > :01:44.and he was told he could Two years ago, one of

:01:45. > :01:49.the victims came forward, He was then charged

:01:50. > :01:52.with ten counts of sexual offences against children,

:01:53. > :01:55.which he pleaded guilty to. Now he has been found guilty

:01:56. > :01:58.of two more sex offences, this time against a member

:01:59. > :02:01.of his own family To be clear, we are only unable

:02:02. > :02:06.to report the name of the man because doing so could mean some

:02:07. > :02:11.of his victims may be identified. Judge Richardson told

:02:12. > :02:17.the man the sentence was designed to punish him

:02:18. > :02:20.as well as protect the public. He said, "You are

:02:21. > :02:23.the architect of this "calamitous situation.

:02:24. > :02:25.The emotional wounds "will take a very long time

:02:26. > :02:29.to heal for all concerned. "You visited immense cruelty

:02:30. > :02:32.upon the victims of your crimes... The judge added that,

:02:33. > :02:38.given the seriousness of the case, Hull City Council should

:02:39. > :02:42.hold an enquiry. The authority said today that

:02:43. > :02:45.a review had already been carried out and found no missed

:02:46. > :02:49.opportunities to protect children, but that the authority would read

:02:50. > :02:51.the full report from the judge A woman has been summoned

:02:52. > :02:59.to court more than a year after a baby boy was found dead

:03:00. > :03:04.in a drain in Grimsby. It happened at this

:03:05. > :03:06.property on Scartho Road 28-year-old Sinead Connett

:03:07. > :03:12.from Hertford near London is due She faces a charge of

:03:13. > :03:19.concealment of birth. Humberside Police are using

:03:20. > :03:22.undercover officers to try to catch Bikers have been filmed

:03:23. > :03:28.travelling more than 100mph on narrow country roads

:03:29. > :03:31.in East Yorkshire over Katy Austin reports

:03:32. > :03:38.from the Yorkshire Wolds. They say country roads like the ones

:03:39. > :03:41.around here are attractive to people want to take their motorbikes out

:03:42. > :03:44.for a spin, but police are concerned because they say quite a number

:03:45. > :03:48.of them are going far too fast. One rider was filmed

:03:49. > :03:51.in reaching speeds of 118 They were caught by a camera

:03:52. > :03:56.fitted to an unmarked motorbike being ridden

:03:57. > :03:59.by an undercover police officer. Police say riders going that fast

:04:00. > :04:01.are putting themselves in huge danger because they don't

:04:02. > :04:07.have any protection against oncoming Only in the last week we have seen

:04:08. > :04:11.speeds of well over 100 mph, and that is just too fast

:04:12. > :04:15.for our roads in East Riding. They are risking their own lives,

:04:16. > :04:17.and unfortunately having been a traffic officer who has had to

:04:18. > :04:22.knock on a number of doors to give some really bad news, it is not good

:04:23. > :04:25.for the families, the medical teams and everyone who

:04:26. > :04:28.suffers as a result. Two motorcyclists have already died

:04:29. > :04:31.on the roads of East Yorkshire so far this year, and though police

:04:32. > :04:34.say the causes of those incidents are still being investigated,

:04:35. > :04:37.they say motorcyclists make up 20% of road casualties

:04:38. > :04:41.in the area despite making They say riders caught

:04:42. > :04:46.going at higher speeds can end up in court,

:04:47. > :04:48.but more importantly, they are a risk

:04:49. > :05:08.to themselves and everyone else. Researchers from the University of

:05:09. > :05:12.Hull are trying to work out the extent to which chemicals from

:05:13. > :05:16.ordinary house all products are polluting our waters. Toxins that

:05:17. > :05:17.are flushed down our sinks and toilets cause the problem. Here's

:05:18. > :05:23.Paul Murphy with more. This investigation

:05:24. > :05:24.is all about the mud. The banks of the River Hull

:05:25. > :05:27.are just one location where These cores will be carefully

:05:28. > :05:31.analysed for their chemical content. The higher up the bank,

:05:32. > :05:34.the higher the age of sediment, so what they contain

:05:35. > :05:36.is going to be from a longer period, but within

:05:37. > :05:38.the sediments, you can get a good indication of the post-industrial

:05:39. > :05:40.signals, the industrial influences

:05:41. > :05:42.of pollution in the sediments. The ?4-million project

:05:43. > :05:45.is investigating the impact of commonly used chemicals

:05:46. > :05:48.on the environment. Take the example of hormones found

:05:49. > :05:55.in the contraceptive pill. The presence of this

:05:56. > :05:56.hormone can cause male fish to have female

:05:57. > :06:03.characteristics, which could have long-term effects on the fish

:06:04. > :06:06.population in those rivers. The chemical names

:06:07. > :06:10.might not be familiar but these substances

:06:11. > :06:12.are found in everything from toothpaste to handwashes

:06:13. > :06:15.to painkillers and pills. These contaminants end up in our

:06:16. > :06:18.waterways because sewage treatment plants do not have the

:06:19. > :06:20.technology to trap them. But this project is about much

:06:21. > :06:23.more than research into It is aiming to make

:06:24. > :06:28.us all think more about the products we are buying

:06:29. > :06:31.and the small print on the packet. The team is even developing simple

:06:32. > :06:36.indicators to test household Ideally, people would think

:06:37. > :06:45.about products they are using and perhaps think about the next

:06:46. > :06:47.generation, your children, and whether you want them

:06:48. > :06:50.to be having to dealing with this big toxic

:06:51. > :06:54.soup of sediments. The suspicion is that the impact of

:06:55. > :06:57.accumulating toxins in our waterways This project could lead

:06:58. > :07:01.to changes to the content of household products that

:07:02. > :07:10.many of us use every day. Police are investigating

:07:11. > :07:12.after thieves broke into the lifeboat station

:07:13. > :07:17.in Skegness on Saturday night and ransacked the shop,

:07:18. > :07:19.although the boat itself A short time ago, I asked

:07:20. > :07:25.Adam Holmes from the RNLI It is an unfortunate circumstance,

:07:26. > :07:31.but at about 2am on Saturday morning just gone, somebody decided

:07:32. > :07:34.that they wanted to force entry to the station behind us

:07:35. > :07:39.here and break into the shop, and basically make

:07:40. > :07:42.a terrible mess and steal various bits and bobs,

:07:43. > :07:44.and worst of all, take donations that the public have

:07:45. > :07:47.kindly donated to the RNLI. A lot of the things that

:07:48. > :07:49.have been taken cannot Because they are

:07:50. > :07:52.going to be branded. I suspect the motive

:07:53. > :07:57.was purely for cash, and that is the bulk of what has been taken,

:07:58. > :08:01.but there have been some other items taken, that as you say,

:08:02. > :08:03.are pretty useless, because they are heavily

:08:04. > :08:07.branded as RNLI items. There is a lot of disgust

:08:08. > :08:10.that I have been reading tonight on Facebook, people

:08:11. > :08:14.are absolutely furious about this. What do you think of the people

:08:15. > :08:17.who have done this to a charity I'm pretty disgusted,

:08:18. > :08:23.and everybody that's involved and knows

:08:24. > :08:25.about this is disgusted. As you say, the feeling on Facebook

:08:26. > :08:29.is quite deep, and the language has been quite rife, but

:08:30. > :08:32.people's emotions are running high. As a charity especially,

:08:33. > :08:35.you would not expect people to target you,

:08:36. > :08:38.and this is not a good thing for anybody at any time,

:08:39. > :08:42.but the money that we take in honest We get no support from

:08:43. > :08:48.the Government, and the organisation and the institution run

:08:49. > :08:51.solely on these donations. It is abhorrent, really,

:08:52. > :08:55.and I can't imagine the type of person that

:08:56. > :08:57.would do such a thing. Well, I know you've

:08:58. > :08:59.got CCTV pictures. If the people that have done

:09:00. > :09:02.this are watching the telly tonight, and they might have

:09:03. > :09:05.some of the merchandise with them, and the cash, what would you say

:09:06. > :09:08.to them directly now? The best thing for you to do

:09:09. > :09:12.would be to return what it is you have stolen.

:09:13. > :09:17.This is a good, honest charity. All the volunteers here work

:09:18. > :09:21.very, very hard to make sure that the money that is given to

:09:22. > :09:26.us by the public is put to great use And you should really look

:09:27. > :09:30.within yourself and Mr Holmes, very good

:09:31. > :09:34.to talk to you tonight. Thank you very much,

:09:35. > :09:48.I wish you well, and we will let If there are any developments, we

:09:49. > :09:54.will let you know. Now it is time for the weather

:09:55. > :10:01.In a lot of clouds tomorrow, but the sun should breakthrough slowly.

:10:02. > :10:05.Throughout the week, high pressure will remain with us, but a bit of

:10:06. > :10:08.movement from the south. A lot of bad weather across Spain and

:10:09. > :10:13.Portugal, and this weather front may well bring us some heavy showers on

:10:14. > :10:18.Friday and into the weekend. There is a hint of at least some rain and

:10:19. > :10:22.the forecast towards the weekend. Fairly quiet at the moment despite a

:10:23. > :10:27.stiff breeze, one or two light showers possible, temperatures

:10:28. > :10:31.around seven Celsius. A cloudy day tomorrow but the wind will he is

:10:32. > :10:35.quite readily through the morning, a light breeze in the afternoon, a lot

:10:36. > :10:41.of close throughout, but we are a poll that some cloud breaks will

:10:42. > :10:44.occur later in the day, temperatures are around 12 Celsius. With less

:10:45. > :10:49.wind, it should feel milder than today. Warmer on Wednesday and

:10:50. > :10:54.Thursday, and some showers later on Friday, that is

:10:55. > :10:57.Thank you for watching, we will be back in the morning and I will be

:10:58. > :11:03.back tomorrow night. goodnight. will become drier and feel warm. Now

:11:04. > :11:16.the National forecast. Good evening. A quiet day on the

:11:17. > :11:20.weather front but we still managed to have some huge contrasts in the

:11:21. > :11:28.weather. This was a beautiful picture from Cumbria, blue skies and

:11:29. > :11:32.crystal clear blue skies in Argyll and Bute but closer to the north

:11:33. > :11:38.coast, it sends shivers down your spine! Chilly and cloudy all along

:11:39. > :11:42.that cost this bank of cloud that sliced the country in half, cool and

:11:43. > :11:47.cloudy to the east and to the West had sunshine. But it still been dry

:11:48. > :11:54.and it will stay that way for most of the week. As we get into Friday,

:11:55. > :11:57.there is some rain on the way. In the short-term, not much happening

:11:58. > :12:00.in the next few hours, quite a bit of cloud in most of England and

:12:01. > :12:01.Wales but many northern
