:00:16. > :00:21.Lincolnshire West CCG has the worst cancer detection rates

:00:22. > :00:25.in the country - with just 33% of patients being diagnosed early.

:00:26. > :00:28.That's compared to the national average of 50%.

:00:29. > :00:32.After diagnosis, the current ambition is that 70% of patients

:00:33. > :00:35.should survive the first year, but only South Lincolnshire

:00:36. > :00:40.Now GPs at 12 practices will trial a new computer programme

:00:41. > :00:43.to see whether it helps identify those most at risk.

:00:44. > :00:47.Here's our health correspondent, Vicky Johnson.

:00:48. > :00:50.Almost 1000 people a day are diagnosed with cancer in the UK.

:00:51. > :00:55.Survival rates are improving, but patients have a much better

:00:56. > :00:58.chance if the disease is diagnosed early.

:00:59. > :01:06.Peter Crosby's recently had surgery to treat his lung cancer,

:01:07. > :01:10.but initially he was given antibiotics for a persistent cough.

:01:11. > :01:13.Took one more course, and then we decided to go

:01:14. > :01:16.to hospital to see if there was anything on the chest.

:01:17. > :01:19.That's when the shadow was discovered.

:01:20. > :01:22.And it went from being an x-ray to being a CAT scan,

:01:23. > :01:30.If Peter turned up at his doctors now, it's likely his cancer

:01:31. > :01:34.diagnosis would be more prompt, thanks to Lincolnshire's

:01:35. > :01:40.It would be picked up a little bit more quickly.

:01:41. > :01:43.But Find Out Faster would h`ve meant he would have had the scan

:01:44. > :01:48.At the moment, he's fine, which is great, but it could make

:01:49. > :01:52.For the next six months, doctors at 12 practices

:01:53. > :01:57.across Lincolnshire will be piloting the QCancer programme,

:01:58. > :01:59.and this should help them predict the risk

:02:00. > :02:06.We all know that even experienced doctors sometimes fail to m`ke

:02:07. > :02:11.a diagnosis promptly when the symptoms aren't typical.

:02:12. > :02:15.And this tool is just something which makes them think seriously

:02:16. > :02:22.There'll also be much more rapid access to tests,

:02:23. > :02:27.The majority of patients th`t come through the pathway

:02:28. > :02:32.But for them, it's the reassurance that they don't have

:02:33. > :02:34.cancer and they can get on with their lives.

:02:35. > :02:39.If diagnosis rates do improve, the programme will be rolled out

:02:40. > :02:52.A former Ukip MEP from East Yorkshire insists

:02:53. > :02:55.the party still has a future despite its recent difficulties

:02:56. > :02:56.It follows comments made by Steven Woolfe -

:02:57. > :02:59.who quit the party after an altercation with Hull-based MEP

:03:00. > :03:02.Mike Hookem - claiming that Ukip is in a death spiral.

:03:03. > :03:04.But Godfrey Bloom, who was the party's first MDP

:03:05. > :03:07.in Yorkshire and the Humber, insists Ukip still

:03:08. > :03:15.There's still plenty to do, because there are a view

:03:16. > :03:18.of people saying, well, we've had the referendum.

:03:19. > :03:21.But as has just been said, we could still be two years

:03:22. > :03:31.So, Ukip, until we are out, Ukip has a very real job to do.

:03:32. > :03:33.And if you missed today's Sunday Politics programme, it's av`ilable

:03:34. > :03:38.A special service was held at Lincoln cathedral last

:03:44. > :03:49.I think that I've always been in roles where I've had

:03:50. > :03:52.a pioneering role, stepping into roles that have perhaps

:03:53. > :03:56.It feels rather normal, these days, for women to be in senior roles,

:03:57. > :03:59.and I've many friends and colleagues who are women

:04:00. > :04:03.who are deans and bishops in the Church of England.

:04:23. > :04:25.There's been a lot of dry and fine weather this afternoon,

:04:26. > :04:29.We start the day off on a fairly chilly note,

:04:30. > :04:32.perhaps one or two showers just lingering through the morning.

:04:33. > :04:35.Gradually, into the afternoon, the cloud will break and we will see

:04:36. > :04:39.That easterly breeze gradually dying down,

:04:40. > :04:43.temperatures tomorrow at a high of 12 Celsius.

:05:27. > :05:28.England. The main focus will be for the south-west of England where

:05:29. > :05:33.there could be heavy bursts of rain in Devon and Cornwall. With the

:05:34. > :05:37.shield of cloud pushing into Wales, the Midlands and the southern half

:05:38. > :05:40.of the UK, but it isn't as cold night. Different story further

:05:41. > :05:48.north, breaks in the cloud allowing for a touch of frost and pockets of

:05:49. > :05:52.mist and fog. Northern areas will see spells of sunshine in the

:05:53. > :05:56.morning. Some showers, but not as many as recently. The Midlands and

:05:57. > :06:01.the south, more cloud, and shall read bursts of rain. This will clip
