0:00:11 > 0:00:13Good evening.
0:00:13 > 0:00:19Organisers say more than 340,000 visitors have come to Hull over
0:00:19 > 0:00:21the last seven days, smashing all expectations
0:00:21 > 0:00:24for the opening week of City of Culture.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27And after a week of fireworks and light displays, today the latest
0:00:27 > 0:00:29art installation was moved into place, a 75-metre wind
0:00:29 > 0:00:33turbine blade in the heart of the city centre.
0:00:33 > 0:00:39Here's our culture correspondent, Anne-Marie Tasker.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42It was City of Culture's surprise event, and you couldn't have
0:00:42 > 0:00:43got one much bigger.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46A 75-metre long, 28-tonne wind turbine blade, transported
0:00:46 > 0:00:55into the heart of Hull city centre and transformed into a work of art.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Hull, in 2017, is where they are made so you get
0:00:58 > 0:00:59a self-evident sculpture.
0:00:59 > 0:01:00Where else could this happen?
0:01:00 > 0:01:02It's made here, made by the people of Hull.
0:01:02 > 0:01:05We'e got a symbolic form and an actual form of its power,
0:01:05 > 0:01:06then it becomes self-evident, logical.
0:01:06 > 0:01:12It makes sense to me.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14The operation to move it from the factory began at 1.45am,
0:01:14 > 0:01:16the two miles taking around four hours.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19And the journey posed some real challenges.
0:01:19 > 0:01:23All 75 metres of the Blade have got to squeeze around this tight bend.
0:01:23 > 0:01:27They've already taken out the streetlights,
0:01:27 > 0:01:31the traffic lights and the barriers, but they still only have a few
0:01:31 > 0:01:34metres to spare between the court building and King Billy up there.
0:01:34 > 0:01:39By 10am, the supports and cranes were ready to start lifting it
0:01:39 > 0:01:43into position and it had drawn quite a crowd.
0:01:44 > 0:01:44It's amazing.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47It's amazing, just like the last week has been totally amazing.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49A massive, massive positive for Hull.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51I think it should stay for longer than two months,
0:01:51 > 0:01:55because I think it's really good, really.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58It's quite daunting, seeing its size out here
0:01:58 > 0:02:01when you're used to seeing it inside the factory.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05Bringing it out into the daylight, it's even more impressive.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07As a local girl, I'm quite thrilled that, for me,
0:02:07 > 0:02:10this monument is quite iconic but I'm part of the next piece
0:02:10 > 0:02:18of Hull's iconic structure so I'm proud as anything.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20The Blade is one of a series of sculptures being shown
0:02:20 > 0:02:23during City of Culture, and the impact of this one
0:02:23 > 0:02:26came as a surprise even to the people who'd planned it.
0:02:26 > 0:02:35He did an artist's impression of it but nothing prepares
0:02:35 > 0:02:37you to actually seeing it in situ.
0:02:37 > 0:02:38It's an incredibly beautiful thing.
0:02:38 > 0:02:41Hours later, the blade was finally in position and it will stay
0:02:41 > 0:02:47here to be seen touched and driven under for the next 10 weeks.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50Anne-Marie Tasker, BBC Look North, Hull.
0:02:50 > 0:02:54And if you want to see how the story of the day unfolded, step by step,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57you can go to our Facebook page for lots of videos following
0:02:57 > 0:02:59the blade and its journey throughout the city.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a 23-year-old
0:03:02 > 0:03:03man in Lincolnshire.
0:03:03 > 0:03:07They were called to the A1104 at Miles Cross Hill near Alford
0:03:07 > 0:03:10at about 5am yesterday morning after reports of a man
0:03:10 > 0:03:11lying beside the road.
0:03:11 > 0:03:16His death is currently being treated as unexplained.
0:03:16 > 0:03:17Volunteers have been collecting Christmas trees
0:03:17 > 0:03:20in Lincolnshire today, which they hope can be used in flood
0:03:20 > 0:03:21defences along the east coast.
0:03:21 > 0:03:24The collection in Cleethorpes is part of a wider plan co-ordinated
0:03:24 > 0:03:25by the Environment Agency.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28It's hoped hundreds of trees can be used to help coastal flood defences.
0:03:28 > 0:03:37They'll be put in place in the coming weeks.
0:03:37 > 0:03:38We do it for charity.
0:03:38 > 0:03:41We ask for ?5 a tree, so it's a big money raiser for us
0:03:41 > 0:03:43and we use it for local charities.
0:03:43 > 0:03:46This year we've come up with the idea of using the trees
0:03:46 > 0:03:48to stabilise the sand dunes along the coast, especially
0:03:48 > 0:03:49around Mablethorpe, etc.
0:03:49 > 0:03:52I'm a big believer in recycling so I like to see things
0:03:52 > 0:03:53being reused rather than wasted.
0:03:53 > 0:03:55Also, the whole thing about protecting the coastlines
0:03:55 > 0:03:58and the sand dunes was a really good thing to me.
0:03:58 > 0:04:08Really what I'd like is a similar project for next year.
0:04:09 > 0:04:11A quick look at the Rugby result.
0:04:11 > 0:04:14Hull KR beat Hull FC 40-16 to win the Clive Sullivan trophy
0:04:14 > 0:04:24in a pre-season friendly at the KCOM Stadium today.
0:04:24 > 0:04:26And now the weather, with Jennifer Bartram.
0:04:26 > 0:04:27Hello, there.
0:04:27 > 0:04:28Good evening.
0:04:28 > 0:04:30Quite a lot of cloud around this evening and overnight.
0:04:30 > 0:04:33There may still be some patches of mist and fog developing
0:04:33 > 0:04:36and we are going to feel the winds picking up as we head
0:04:36 > 0:04:37through the night tonight.
0:04:37 > 0:04:40But it is going to be generally mild, the temperatures dropping
0:04:40 > 0:04:41down to 5 or 6 Celsius.
0:04:41 > 0:04:43First thing tomorrow morning, it's a cloudy and misty start.
0:04:43 > 0:04:47Dry to start with but we'll see this rain pushing in from the West,
0:04:47 > 0:04:48clearing later on in the day.
0:04:48 > 0:04:54Tomorrow's top temperature, 9 Celsius.
0:04:54 > 0:04:56That's all from us for now.
0:04:56 > 0:04:58We're back in the morning with your first bulletin
