:01:30. > :01:31.And as education budgets tighten, Lincolnshire County Council is now

:01:32. > :01:33.hoping other schools will follow in its steps.

:01:34. > :01:37.William Farr School is over 60 years old, but it's

:01:38. > :01:39.looking ahead to a more environmentally friendly future.

:01:40. > :01:41.Over the last five years, it's made big changes,

:01:42. > :01:45.like installing solar panels for electricity, and ground source

:01:46. > :01:48.heating that uses water pumped through the ground

:01:49. > :01:52.But some of their changes have been much smaller,

:01:53. > :01:57.We worked with them to help install the insulation and LED

:01:58. > :02:01.When you have the heating on, don't have the windows open,

:02:02. > :02:06.Anyone who wanted to design an eco or green sticker had a chance to get

:02:07. > :02:08.it professionally published and stuck around the school.

:02:09. > :02:12.The head says it'll take six years to cover the cost of the changes,

:02:13. > :02:14.but after that, it'll save them ?180,000 a year - money that's

:02:15. > :02:19.I'm sure I'll be facing another budget cut.

:02:20. > :02:24.It's a significant problem for all schools, but clearly

:02:25. > :02:27.if you're spending ?180,000 simply on lighting and heating,

:02:28. > :02:30.very naturally, the money not being used for that would go

:02:31. > :02:33.towards educating the children, and what could be better?

:02:34. > :02:36.The most recent addition is a ?900,000 biomass boiler

:02:37. > :02:41.The company that installed it helped the school finance the project,

:02:42. > :02:44.and says many are being put off by the costs involved.

:02:45. > :02:47.We worked with them to showcase that this actually is doable

:02:48. > :02:50.within Lincolnshire, and actually all over the UK.

:02:51. > :02:53.We know that there is funding out there, there's investors that

:02:54. > :02:56.want to do it, and there's companies like us who have the capability

:02:57. > :03:04.William Farr has been supported by Lincolnshire County Council.

:03:05. > :03:07.It says if more schools made these changes, it could revolutionise

:03:08. > :03:12.Schools make up about 66% of the council's carbon footprint,

:03:13. > :03:18.It teaches children that there is a consequence

:03:19. > :03:21.to the energy they use, and how they can reduce

:03:22. > :03:27.The county council is applying for funding for a project to help

:03:28. > :03:30.more schools cut their carbon footprint, and William Farr says

:03:31. > :03:32.they'll keep looking for ways to become more energy efficient.
