:00:17. > :00:19.Mary Denness was one of a group of women from the city dubbed

:00:20. > :00:23."The Headscarf Revolutionaries", who started lobbying the Government

:00:27. > :00:30.They captured the public's attention with their determined

:00:31. > :00:33.and hard fought campaign, as Victoria Holland reports.

:00:34. > :00:35.She was the skipper's wife who changed lives.

:00:36. > :00:39.Mary Denness joined three other women on a revolution in the 60s,

:00:40. > :00:58.to make their men's lives safer on North Sea Trawlers.

:00:59. > :01:00.That build build-up of anger, of frustration, and then two

:01:01. > :01:03.It was the fuse that caused the explosion.

:01:04. > :01:06.A lot of women said we had no right to be

:01:07. > :01:08.interfering in the men's work, that the fish stocks were the men's

:01:09. > :01:11.territory - it was very misogynistic in those days.

:01:12. > :01:12.Mary and the other headscarf revolutionaries

:01:13. > :01:14.started a petition, marched on the docks and eventually met

:01:15. > :01:18.Their work meant that safety improved on trawlers and it

:01:19. > :01:21.also inspired other artists, authors and Hull campaigners.

:01:22. > :01:24.Today, flowers had been left at a bench which had

:01:25. > :01:26.been unveiled in her honour two years ago.

:01:27. > :01:31.Mary became a very eloquent spokesman then and later.

:01:32. > :01:38.It is quite apt that we are here remembering this remarkable

:01:39. > :01:44.without whom countless thousands of lives would have been lost.

:01:45. > :01:48.The campaign meant the industry was regulated, with a trained radio

:01:49. > :01:53.And Mary's bench serves as a reminder of the effect these

:01:54. > :01:56.four women from Hull had on the lives of their husbands

:01:57. > :02:06.A man has been charged following a series of car thefts

:02:07. > :02:08.in Hull and East Yorkshire that took place on Friday.

:02:28. > :02:31.Police were called to an alley off David Street at about 6:30am this

:02:32. > :02:36.His death is not being treated as suspicious.

:02:37. > :02:39.There are calls for the Chancellor to use Wednesday's Budget

:02:40. > :02:42.to increase the amount spent on social care in parts of our area.

:02:43. > :02:44.The Government has allowed councils in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

:02:45. > :02:47.to increase bills by an extra three per cent this year to meet

:02:48. > :02:53.the growing cost of care, but some MPs say that's still not enough.

:02:54. > :02:56.I'd like him to provide proper funding for social care,

:02:57. > :03:01.particularly in areas like how were we know that the precept

:03:02. > :03:03.increase that Government have announced, the

:03:04. > :03:06.3% that were going to have in Hull, will not generate the amount of

:03:07. > :03:11.It is 56% more in the East Riding than we'll be able to generate here.

:03:12. > :03:15.So I'd like him to do something specific about the poorer

:03:16. > :03:18.areas that are really having a social care crisis because of the

:03:39. > :03:43.I gained my culture from this community. This loving, giving

:03:44. > :03:45.community. Hull-born actress Maureen Lipman

:03:46. > :03:48.was guest of honour at a special And she and others paid tribute

:03:49. > :03:51.to how Hull had welcomed In a way, it's a sort of miracle

:03:52. > :03:56.that a community has survived 250 years of the trials

:03:57. > :03:58.and tribulations, from one or two early settlers,

:03:59. > :04:00.and is still here. I had a fantastic, both Jewish

:04:01. > :04:02.and secular, education here. 250 years of the Jewish

:04:03. > :04:05.people coming into and being welcomed

:04:06. > :04:09.by the great city of Hull. The Hull City boss Marco Silva

:04:10. > :04:12.says his team have to fight The Tigers lost a big match

:04:13. > :04:15.against fellow strugglers It keeps them second from bottom

:04:16. > :04:20.in the Premier League. Marco Silva says while it doesn't

:04:21. > :04:23.look good for his team, he needs his players

:04:24. > :04:26.to keep on pushing. As it stands, a couple of victories

:04:27. > :04:29.could potentially lift them It's clear we need to come to be

:04:30. > :04:39.strong and to fight like we But the most important is,

:04:40. > :04:43.when you get a chance to score you need to score, because these make

:04:44. > :04:48.the difference during the matches. And finally, it's been a good

:04:49. > :04:51.afternoon for Hull KR They've just thrashed

:04:52. > :04:54.Sheffield Eagles at home. A more than comfortable

:05:15. > :05:17.as we head to the early hours of tomorrow morning, they will

:05:18. > :05:20.start to fragment and lose We will see some really good

:05:21. > :05:23.breaks in the clouds, These will be the temperatures

:05:24. > :05:26.in towns and cities. Rurally they will

:05:27. > :05:28.drop a little lower. It will be quite

:05:29. > :05:30.a chilly start tomorrow. Quite cloudy as well,

:05:31. > :05:33.but we will see some really decent breaks and some nice,

:05:34. > :05:34.bright, sunny spells, We are also risk of seeing one

:05:35. > :05:39.or two showers, and the winds will be so light tomorrow

:05:40. > :05:41.that these showers may At this time of year, though,

:05:42. > :05:45.temperatures in the sunshine will be Then, as we head through the next

:05:46. > :05:49.few days, Tuesday might get off to a decent enough start but then
