:00:20. > :00:22.The money - which has been awarded to the Hull York Medical School -

:00:23. > :00:26.will be used to find out why so many people don't see their doctor,

:00:27. > :00:27.until their cancer reaches a late stage.

:00:28. > :00:33.In February 2015 Harry received some terrifying news.

:00:34. > :00:36.I thought I had a chest infection and the X-ray

:00:37. > :00:41.And the upper part of the long had to

:00:42. > :00:44.come out and then I had to go through a chemotherapy regime.

:00:45. > :00:52.His lung cancer was caught early enough to

:00:53. > :00:56.But Harry's specialist says too many people

:00:57. > :00:59.We need them to come forward earlier.

:01:00. > :01:02.If they come from earlier there's quite a high

:01:03. > :01:07.It is the same as some of the more common other cancers

:01:08. > :01:10.The problem is worse in deprived areas.

:01:11. > :01:14.In Hull the number of people who die from lung cancer is well

:01:15. > :01:22.Last year nearly half of lung cancer

:01:23. > :01:23.patients didn't get diagnosed until the

:01:24. > :01:25.disease was at its most advanced stage.

:01:26. > :01:29.There is evidence that British people like to not bother

:01:30. > :01:33.They are quite protective of the health service, so

:01:34. > :01:35.I think we need to try and get a different

:01:36. > :01:36.narrative around that and

:01:37. > :01:39.really reassure people that what doctors want is to see them

:01:40. > :01:47.A new investment of around ?5 million from

:01:48. > :01:49.Yorkshire Cancer research is helping to change that.

:01:50. > :01:51.Some of this money will pay for 11 new researchers

:01:52. > :02:00.based at the medical building here at Hull University.

:02:01. > :02:03.But it is also hoped it will be two more national

:02:04. > :02:07.And part of the money will go on trying to get people with

:02:08. > :02:10.cancer symptoms to the doctor earlier and for anyone unsure at

:02:11. > :02:13.some advice from someone who has seen it all before.

:02:14. > :02:16.Cancer doesn't knock on the door and say I'm creeping up on

:02:17. > :02:22.And if you have a cough or anything out of the

:02:23. > :02:24.ordinary, if you feel tired, go see your doctor.

:02:50. > :02:51.in 2008 and is still battling the condition.

:02:52. > :02:53.Figures reveal it kills more people under 40

:02:54. > :03:00.than any other type of cancer, but only receives 1% of the funding.

:03:01. > :03:05.Then these to be more research into treatment. There are a lot of

:03:06. > :03:11.treatments in the pipeline and we need to speed them up. Sadly a lot

:03:12. > :03:14.of us will not be around for years down the line.
