:09:31. > :09:37.To stay alive, Stephen's heart has to be plugged in. He has no
:09:37. > :09:42.heartbeat, no pulse, just a humming noise. Inside his chest is a
:09:42. > :09:50.mechanical heart keeping him alive after his failed. I could not walk
:09:50. > :09:57.very far. I was constantly out of breath. They put me on the heart
:09:57. > :10:05.transplant lists, but there are no guarantees. Now I have a mechanical
:10:05. > :10:11.pump. When he goes out, he takes his battery kit. Today he is
:10:11. > :10:20.meeting Louise. She has also just had a mechanical heart fitted. They
:10:20. > :10:27.are among the first patients in the world to have them. It happened
:10:27. > :10:35.quite rapidly. I went on the transplant list. My whole life has
:10:35. > :10:39.been taken away. Two people with a shoulder bag supply and the power
:10:39. > :10:46.to keep them alive. For stephen macro and Louise their time was
:10:46. > :10:52.running out. The call never came and both were rapidly deteriorating.
:10:52. > :11:02.Without this new device they would not have survived. My heart was so
:11:02. > :11:03.
:11:03. > :11:09.poorly, I couldn't care less. I could not fight it any more.
