:00:11. > :00:13.Hello, and welcome to Look North. In the programme tonight:

:00:13. > :00:16.We've more on the Durham shootings. Police confiscated Michael

:00:16. > :00:18.Atherton's weapons after a previous incident but then gave them back to

:00:18. > :00:21.him. The woman who took on the lottery

:00:21. > :00:23.rapist, and changed the law, speaks publicly for the first time, after

:00:23. > :00:25.being awarded the MBE. Travel disruption and buildings

:00:25. > :00:28.damaged as more strong winds hit the region.

:00:28. > :00:31.And no happy new year for Darlington. The football club's in

:00:31. > :00:34.administration, it could be the end for the Quakers.

:00:34. > :00:36.129 years of history hanging in the balance. Elsewhere, how's life

:00:36. > :00:40.treating our League clubs? We've a half-term report, and the

:00:40. > :00:50.pick of the New Year action including one fan who just loves to

:00:50. > :01:00.

:01:00. > :01:03.The community remains in shock. Many questions remain unanswered.

:01:03. > :01:08.But details are beginning to emerge about the police's dealings with

:01:08. > :01:10.Michael Atherton. The 42-year-old shot dead his partner, Susan

:01:10. > :01:13.McGoldrick, her sister, Alison Turnbull and her niece, Tanya

:01:13. > :01:21.Turnbull, before taking his own life in his house in Horden,

:01:21. > :01:26.Peterlee, late on Sunday night. Our Chief Reporter Chris Stewart is at

:01:26. > :01:33.the scene of the shooting. Chris, there was a time when questions

:01:33. > :01:37.were being asked about whether Michael Atherton should have guns?

:01:37. > :01:41.That was a little over three years ago. I can tell you his guns were

:01:41. > :01:46.confiscated by the police. The question is, how did you get them

:01:46. > :01:49.back? First a Damian O'Neil has spent the day in Britain's Got

:01:50. > :01:53.Talent talking to people here, among them those who worked with

:01:53. > :01:57.Michael Atherton. As more details emerged about what

:01:57. > :02:01.happened in the hours leading up to the shootings the people of Horden

:02:01. > :02:04.are still coming to terms with the enormity of what happened on their

:02:04. > :02:07.doorstep and the national attention which is now focused on their

:02:07. > :02:13.village. It is always something that happens in other places, that

:02:13. > :02:23.what we always think. But happening here in Horden has come as a great

:02:23. > :02:29.

:02:29. > :02:34.Exemplary, a nice guy, never had Unsworth, no matter how many other

:02:34. > :02:39.people might be frustrated and fed themselves -- never heard him swear.

:02:39. > :02:43.Started work in the early hours, worked all day, at night if we were

:02:43. > :02:53.busy, never take anything down, caused a problem. How did you feel

:02:53. > :02:59.when you heard the news? Disbelief. Disbelief. Complete disbelief. I

:02:59. > :03:07.could named a dozen people who if I had headed on the news, I would say

:03:07. > :03:12.yes. Not him. Did he talk about his personal life I work? No, never

:03:12. > :03:21.showed any outward signs of any discomfort or stress. Just a nice

:03:21. > :03:26.guy. He will have a lot of clients, customers that want him to pick him

:03:26. > :03:31.up. You have certain drivers who are very well liked and he was one

:03:31. > :03:35.of them. Did you have any reason to think he could ever do anything

:03:35. > :03:39.like this? No. The government has already ruled out any immediate

:03:39. > :03:44.change to the gun laws, but the local MP thinks they need to be

:03:44. > :03:48.looked at again. I do think maybe the time is right to look at this

:03:48. > :03:51.in a thoroughly calm and measured way to determine whether we need to

:03:51. > :03:55.review the law and the terms and conditions under which firearms are

:03:55. > :04:05.issued. Meanwhile the efforts to try and find out why Michael

:04:05. > :04:07.

:04:07. > :04:11.Atherton resorted to such extreme violence are continuing. We might

:04:11. > :04:14.have expected to hear the arguments calling for gun laws to be

:04:14. > :04:18.tightened, and we might also have expected to hear those representing

:04:18. > :04:23.gun owners saying that the laws are strict enough already. A war we

:04:23. > :04:31.didn't expect to hear is the fact they did come this time when

:04:31. > :04:34.Michael Atherton's weapons were confiscated. For a well run gun

:04:34. > :04:38.club by the letter of the law couldn't be more closely followed.

:04:38. > :04:43.This is what the police want to see. But now they find themselves having

:04:43. > :04:47.to fend off questions that you don't have easy answers. We know he

:04:47. > :04:51.had six weapons, three were shotguns, smooth barrelled and

:04:51. > :04:57.firing pellets. To get acidic -- certificate for the sea had to fill

:04:57. > :05:02.out a form and had to declare any criminal past, give details of his

:05:02. > :05:06.GP and provide a referee of good character. Three weapons were

:05:06. > :05:10.classed as firearms. These fire bullets about deadly over a longer

:05:10. > :05:14.range. As well as what was required for the shotgun application he also

:05:14. > :05:19.had to provide two referees and provide good reason for holding a

:05:19. > :05:23.firearm. The police have the power to the reverts -- to revoke the

:05:23. > :05:29.City of good and that could have been a consideration in his case. -

:05:29. > :05:33.- City forget. In 2008 at a family gathering he became upset and

:05:33. > :05:37.threatened to harm himself. The police were called and came here

:05:37. > :05:42.and took away his weapons. A few days later a senior officer decided

:05:42. > :05:46.there was no justification for the police are continuing to hold those

:05:46. > :05:50.weapons and they were handed back. One of the country's foremost

:05:51. > :05:55.commentators are crime issues says and national firearms register is

:05:55. > :05:58.desperately needed. Legitimate studios are allowed to possess

:05:58. > :06:03.firearms, they need them in the house because whether she might be

:06:03. > :06:08.miles from where they live. We need a proper system of making sure that

:06:08. > :06:11.if people become unstable or if they become for some reason not

:06:11. > :06:14.suitable to hold firearms the machine -- the machinery, the

:06:14. > :06:18.system kicks in and they have another look at them. I don't think

:06:18. > :06:22.that always happens. This evening an organisation representing the

:06:22. > :06:28.gun lobby said such a national register could not guarantee

:06:28. > :06:33.incidents like the Liz Cann shootings could be avoided. My own

:06:33. > :06:37.opinion is that GPs would be reluctant to sign people off,

:06:37. > :06:42.because they would feel that was too great a responsibility for them

:06:42. > :06:47.to take on their shoulders. Whatever you do, let us be

:06:47. > :06:51.realistic. Whatever you do you will see incidents like this happen

:06:51. > :06:55.occasionally. Calls for tougher laws are inevitable but the

:06:55. > :06:59.indications from Downing Street are that that is not going to happen.

:06:59. > :07:02.Chris, you and I have been here before. Last time, we were standing

:07:02. > :07:04.in the middle of Whitehaven discussing Derrick Bird's gun

:07:04. > :07:14.licensing. He killed 12 people, then himself. Politicians issued a

:07:14. > :07:17.report, but really, nothing's changed, has it?

:07:17. > :07:21.More we here after a tragedy is perhaps predictable but

:07:21. > :07:25.understandable -- what we hear. The police can operate only in the

:07:25. > :07:30.guidelines provided for them by the government. This tragedy will be

:07:30. > :07:33.picked over by the independent Police Complaints Commission but

:07:33. > :07:43.Durham Police said this afternoon they are confident they did operate

:07:43. > :07:47.

:07:47. > :07:50.within those nationally agreed This is Shirley Woodman. Her long

:07:50. > :07:53.battle with the rapist who attacked her made national headlines and set

:07:53. > :07:57.a legal precedent for other victims. Iorworth Hoare tried to rape

:07:57. > :08:03.Shirley in Leeds in 1988. Hoare, who already had a string of

:08:03. > :08:06.convictions for sex attacks, was sentenced to life imprisonment. But

:08:06. > :08:11.16 years later, while out on day release, he won more than 7

:08:11. > :08:13.million on the National Lottery. He used some of the money to buy a

:08:13. > :08:16.house on the luxury Darras Hall estate outside Newcastle. Shirley

:08:16. > :08:20.pursued him through the courts for compensation, and in 2008 the House

:08:20. > :08:27.of Lords made a landmark ruling in her favour. Shirley, who's from

:08:27. > :08:30.Leeds, could only previously be identified as Mrs A. But now, after

:08:30. > :08:32.being awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours, she's waived her

:08:32. > :08:40.right to anonymity and spoken exclusively to Look North's Joe

:08:40. > :08:46.Inwood, together with her daughter Shelley Wolfson.

:08:46. > :08:53.I was absolutely frozen with fear. I could not believe this had

:08:53. > :09:00.happened. Somebody rang me up and said the man who attacked due has

:09:00. > :09:07.just won the lottery, 7 million. - - a tactic you. I was horrified. It

:09:07. > :09:13.seemed so unjust that not only myself, but other people, other of

:09:13. > :09:19.his victims, couldn't share in some of the money and take out a case of

:09:19. > :09:23.damages against -- against him. I was being continually told that the

:09:23. > :09:29.law of limitations is there, and you will not win. We cannot change

:09:29. > :09:34.it. But that was exactly what Shirley Wood and then went on to do.

:09:34. > :09:38.The law of limitation is meant once six years have passed she could no

:09:38. > :09:43.longer sue him, the man who had attacked her. But for years and

:09:43. > :09:49.hundreds of thousands of pounds of legal costs later, as she was in

:09:49. > :09:53.the house if Lord's changing the law. It meant other people would be

:09:53. > :10:01.benefiting by it. There were children who had been in care and

:10:01. > :10:06.two had been abused his lawyers had realised I was taking up my case

:10:06. > :10:10.and as my decision was made, we then knew that these young people

:10:10. > :10:15.who had been abused so many years earlier, we knew that they would

:10:15. > :10:23.also win their case. It is fair to say this it wasn't for the money,

:10:23. > :10:27.this wasn't for you. Oh my goodness, no, not at all. It was for justice.

:10:27. > :10:30.There was no thought of money and the beginning. In fact, it was

:10:30. > :10:36.going for charity and it has gone to charity. All the money went to

:10:36. > :10:39.charity. Yes. All the money has gone. You were involved in

:10:39. > :10:45.nominating your mother, why did you do it?

:10:45. > :10:50.She is a woman of dignity, a woman of strength, she fought the Law of

:10:50. > :10:59.the land and she won. And for that I am so proud to be her daughter,

:11:00. > :11:02.so proud of her. Shirley Woodman, Stormy weather's been causing

:11:03. > :11:07.disruption across much of the region today with winds of over 80

:11:07. > :11:10.miles an hour. Some vehicles have blown over and there's been

:11:10. > :11:13.structural damage to buildings. But the biggest problems are on the

:11:13. > :11:15.trains through the region. East Coast trains heading north are

:11:15. > :11:25.terminating at Newcastle because of severe gale force winds in

:11:25. > :11:33.

:11:33. > :11:35.Edinburgh and Glasgow. Stephanie If these sough -- travellers when

:11:36. > :11:41.suffering from the general blues when they said had, they would be

:11:41. > :11:45.now. Nope trains travelling north of Newcastle because of 100 mph

:11:45. > :11:51.winds. Meant to be home to Aberdeen today. Can't get home until

:11:52. > :11:57.tomorrow. It's the weather, you have got to go with the flow.

:11:57. > :12:00.going to have a look around here, go ice-skating or something. We are

:12:00. > :12:05.supposed to be travelling up to Scotland but trains here are

:12:05. > :12:10.cancelled and people say Glasgow is a no-go. We don't mind, we are

:12:10. > :12:15.prepared, when we come to Newcastle of Scotland, come to the west of

:12:15. > :12:18.Ireland, we are used to storms and that kind of thing over there.

:12:18. > :12:21.limited East Coast train service has resumed this evening between

:12:21. > :12:25.Newcastle and Edinburgh and a normal service is expected to run

:12:25. > :12:29.tomorrow. The train company says customers with tickets for today

:12:29. > :12:36.will be able to travel on any east- coast train tomorrow, weather

:12:36. > :12:39.permitting. On the roads two lorries got into difficulty on the

:12:39. > :12:44.M6, this one overturned near Carlisle and another was blown from

:12:44. > :12:48.the road near today. Traffic was brought to a standstill this

:12:48. > :12:57.morning after a trailer overturned near Newcastle. The strong winds

:12:57. > :13:07.have caused damage to people's. -- people's. Students at the school

:13:07. > :13:10.

:13:10. > :13:13.got an extra day off -- pupils. If these travellers weren't

:13:13. > :13:21.suffering from the January blues when they set out this morning,

:13:21. > :13:24.One man is still in custody and another two have been released on

:13:24. > :13:27.bail following the alleged rape and kidnap of a woman in Newcastle.

:13:27. > :13:30.Police were called to the Royal Station Hotel early yesterday after

:13:30. > :13:32.the woman's husband had become concerned when she'd failed to

:13:32. > :13:35.return home. A 22-year-old woman was taken to hospital suffering

:13:35. > :13:38.from a head injury. More than 500 jobs could be at risk

:13:38. > :13:41.at Cumbrian Seafoods plants in the North East and Cumbria. Young's

:13:41. > :13:43.Seafood bought the sites in Seaham, Amble and Whitehaven in December

:13:43. > :13:45.after the company went into administration. This afternoon,

:13:45. > :13:48.Youngs announced the business model for the sites isn't financially

:13:48. > :13:51.viable. It's proposing changes which could result in the loss of

:13:51. > :13:53.up to 363 jobs in Seaham, 112 in Whitehaven, and 80 in Amble.

:13:53. > :13:57.A Crown Court judge from Northumberland who swore and

:13:57. > :13:59.stormed out of court when she was convicted of failing to control her

:13:59. > :14:01.dangerous dog has retired on medical grounds. Beatrice Bolton,

:14:01. > :14:08.from Rothbury, was convicted at Carlisle Magistrates in December

:14:08. > :14:11.2010 of allowing her German Shepherd dog to bite her neighbour.

:14:11. > :14:20.She was facing disciplinary action but today the Office for Judicial

:14:20. > :14:25.Complaints said it had now been dropped.

:14:25. > :14:29.Still to come, a half-time report on our football league teams. But

:14:29. > :14:32.for Darlington it could be the season is about to come to a

:14:32. > :14:37.premature and permanent end. After another stormy winters day

:14:37. > :14:46.the wind features in a forecast and I will have your full outlook if

:14:47. > :14:50.Gateshead Council's proposing to lay off all of its countryside

:14:50. > :14:53.rangers as it tries to make cuts of 70 million. The six rangers

:14:53. > :14:57.maintain all of the borough's country parks with a team of 70

:14:57. > :15:01.volunteers. It's believed that the National Trust has been approached

:15:01. > :15:03.to take on some of the maintenance work. Adrian Pitches reports.

:15:03. > :15:06.Harold and Jackey are volunteers whose work in Gateshead's

:15:06. > :15:16.countryside is overseen by the full-time rangers employed by the

:15:16. > :15:16.

:15:16. > :15:20.council. If these rangers are axed, all that maintenance work could end.

:15:20. > :15:25.That has implications for not only who manages the Rangers, the

:15:25. > :15:30.Foreign to Rangers, but has direct implications on the countryside

:15:31. > :15:36.itself -- the volunteer Rangers. There will be litter, vandalism,

:15:36. > :15:42.anti-social behaviour. The hours build up over the year. We keep a

:15:42. > :15:44.record and in 2011, over 7,000 hours of volunteer time.

:15:44. > :15:47.Gateshead's most popular country park is the Derwent Valley walkway.

:15:47. > :15:50.The proposal to close the countryside ranger service is not

:15:50. > :15:54.so popular. It would be a massive shame because

:15:54. > :15:59.it is really well maintained at the moment. They would be a big shame.

:15:59. > :16:04.It is a disaster for Nature and the local people. It is a well used

:16:04. > :16:09.place by people and nature and nature lease taking care of. Green

:16:09. > :16:13.spaces are really important and to neglect them is probably very

:16:13. > :16:18.dangerous to be habitat here as well as for that local community to

:16:18. > :16:23.use them. The council say with 70 million of

:16:23. > :16:26.cuts, it is inevitable difficult decisions will have to be taken and

:16:26. > :16:29.they stressed no decision has yet been taken about the countryside

:16:29. > :16:32.management service here in the borough. They do say they have been

:16:32. > :16:37.talking to trusts are about maintenance of their country parks

:16:37. > :16:44.which seems to be a reference to the National Trust. Neither side is

:16:44. > :16:47.saying much more today. For the third time in just nine

:16:47. > :16:50.years Darlington Football Club has being placed into administration.

:16:50. > :16:52.Chairman Raj Singh said the decision was taken with huge regret,

:16:52. > :17:01.while administrators say the club will fold unless financial support

:17:01. > :17:04.is found quickly. Stuart Whincup Winning the FA Trophy, the first

:17:04. > :17:08.silverware in Darlington's 128 year history, was supposed to herald a

:17:08. > :17:11.new era. But just eight months after those Wembley celebrations

:17:11. > :17:21.and following weeks of speculation the football club has again being

:17:21. > :17:22.

:17:23. > :17:26.placed into administration. There have been times when the economy is

:17:26. > :17:31.uncertain, fans don't have money to spend a matches, investors don't

:17:31. > :17:37.have the same sort of money and capital available, so a pretty

:17:37. > :17:40.serious situation. Former captain Kevan Smith made

:17:40. > :17:43.nearly 400 appearance for Darlington and is one on their best

:17:43. > :17:46.known players. He says he was part of delegation interested in taking

:17:46. > :17:51.over the club, but claims chairman Raj Singh wasn't interested in

:17:51. > :17:57.talking to them. I do know he was talking to Darlington contingent,

:17:57. > :18:01.but he also was aware of this other side, and my disappointment is that

:18:01. > :18:05.he has not given the opportunity to be discussed because this was a

:18:05. > :18:08.genuine opportunity to keep a club as safe as possible.

:18:08. > :18:11.Darlington will now be docked 10 points, while any new consortium

:18:11. > :18:17.have been warned they will need to find around 400,000 to run the

:18:17. > :18:21.club till the end of the season. In a statement the chairman said it

:18:21. > :18:25.was with huge regret he placed the club into administration. He said

:18:25. > :18:28.he had been trying to make cutbacks for some months but it wasn't

:18:28. > :18:38.possible and there was no other viable offer to take over the club.

:18:38. > :18:41.He said he was truly sorry things had not worked out.

:18:41. > :18:51.It is easy to mix up your days after Christmas and we are not

:18:51. > :18:52.

:18:52. > :18:55.helping people because it is team- -- Geoff and Dawn.

:18:55. > :18:57.Yes, Team Talk on a Tuesday, for a change! But still plenty to talk

:18:57. > :19:00.about because we're halfway through the season, Dawn?

:19:00. > :19:04.Where's the time gone? Amazing, but what we're going to do is produce

:19:04. > :19:06.our own half-term report. Marks out of 10 for all our teams, but

:19:06. > :19:10.remember, it's just for fun! We'll kick off with Newcastle who

:19:10. > :19:13.had a fantastic start to the season and despite a bit of rough patch,

:19:13. > :19:16.we're still giving them 8 out of 10, because there are seventh in the

:19:16. > :19:25.Premier League. And that's largely down to this guy, Demba Ba, 14

:19:25. > :19:29.goals already this season. They're really going to miss him when he

:19:29. > :19:32.goes off to the African Cup of Nations. Really got his 15th at

:19:32. > :19:36.Liverpool the Ben Knight, a great effort this would have been. It

:19:36. > :19:42.could have changed the game, but we will never know. Not a great time

:19:42. > :19:47.for Newcastle, they have got mine United at St James' tomorrow night.

:19:47. > :19:51.A bit of a rough patch at the moment. They got that deflected

:19:51. > :19:55.goal to get them off to a great start but things are not going on -

:19:55. > :19:58.- going for them at the moment. Hard to put your finger on exactly

:19:58. > :20:04.why it although they have played some of the top teams. But can be

:20:04. > :20:11.the reason. But things like this happen, Craig Bellamy. Today look

:20:11. > :20:16.happy. There is room there he might be possibly making a return. 10-3,

:20:16. > :20:22.perhaps, on loan. The transfer window is open. Not particularly

:20:22. > :20:25.happy new year for Alan Pardew. January is never nice for

:20:25. > :20:30.Premiership managers, all was on our guard. One or two players we

:20:30. > :20:33.are looking at. Hopefully we can turn it into a positive. A great

:20:33. > :20:40.calendar year. The first half of the season, particularly, are

:20:40. > :20:43.looking to build on that in the second half.

:20:43. > :20:48.On to Sunderland and we've had to do a bit of mental maths for this

:20:48. > :20:51.one! We thought 4 out of 10 for the Steve Bruce era, 8 out of 10 since

:20:51. > :20:54.Martin O'Neill took over as manager, so that's an average of 6 out of 10.

:20:54. > :20:57.And they are definitely showing signs of improvement. Well, they

:20:57. > :21:00.keep on going right to the end, don't they? That is probably the

:21:00. > :21:03.difference. 10 points from five games under O'Neill, and three very

:21:03. > :21:06.late winners That's right, against Blackburn and QPR, and then, of

:21:06. > :21:15.course, the one against Man City on New Year's Day, enjoyed by the

:21:15. > :21:18.commentary team from the BBC's Swahili service. Broadcasting live

:21:18. > :21:25.to 19 million listeners across Africa, though quite what they made

:21:25. > :21:29.of this rather over-enthusiastic fan, I'd be scared to ask! He keeps

:21:29. > :21:38.going back for more. Ago as big they celebrate like that in South

:21:38. > :21:41.Korea. He shows what a different new manager can make. Players will

:21:41. > :21:48.be out to impress him. He has instilled something that wasn't

:21:48. > :21:53.there before. That is a new-found confidence. We had a real belief

:21:53. > :21:58.about us at the minute, a harder team to beat. Getting a bit of luck

:21:58. > :22:01.were at the start of the season we were playing well. We didn't have

:22:01. > :22:11.that belief we would score a goal so it has turned around a little

:22:11. > :22:15.

:22:15. > :22:24.Middlesbrough could have been 4th, their progress report, pretty

:22:24. > :22:27.Currently fourth, they could so easily have been top of the table,

:22:27. > :22:31.so their progress report is pretty decent, Dawn? We've given them 9

:22:31. > :22:34.out of 10. We thought about 8, but given the lack of money at the club,

:22:34. > :22:37.and the way Tony Mowbray's done wonders with what he's had, we were

:22:37. > :22:40.feeling generous! And they would have been joint-top, going into the

:22:40. > :22:43.New Year if they'd managed to beat Peterborough! Which is the one

:22:43. > :22:46.black mark against them this season, they've let so many points slip,

:22:46. > :22:49.late on, especially at the Riverside. 7 home draws out of 12

:22:49. > :22:51.games. It could have gone the other way if they had got the breaks

:22:51. > :22:53.early on. Pretty good record away from home,

:22:53. > :23:03.that fantastic win at Cardiff. Blackpool's home record is

:23:03. > :23:03.

:23:03. > :23:07.extremely good as well. Up to his Not a great day.

:23:07. > :23:09.Now if they carry on as they have done in recent weeks, the half-term

:23:09. > :23:13.mark we've given League One's surprise package, Carlisle, might

:23:13. > :23:18.seem a bit on the mean side, Dawn? We've gone for a 7.5, because they

:23:18. > :23:21.are just outside the play-off zone. They need to be a bit more

:23:21. > :23:24.consistent if they're to push into the top six but still, a terrific

:23:24. > :23:27.achievement to be where they are. And a couple of impressive results,

:23:27. > :23:31.either side of New Year, a battling draw, away at Huddersfield,

:23:31. > :23:33.followed by a 3-2 win over a Sheffield United side who were on a

:23:33. > :23:37.run of eight successive victories the Blues were unbeaten in five,

:23:37. > :23:40.though and after being pegged back twice they came up with the goods.

:23:40. > :23:42.One disappointment for manager Greg Abbot, he's lost two of his loan

:23:42. > :23:44.players, defender Christian Ribeiro's gone back at Bristol City.

:23:44. > :23:47.And Sunderland midfielder Liam Noble wants to talk to Martin

:23:47. > :23:51.O'Neill before he commits himself to another spell at Brunton Park.

:23:51. > :23:53.Noble missed yesterday's game, Jon- Paul McGovern with the winner.

:23:53. > :23:59.Hartlepool United, finally, bottom of this particular class, I'm

:23:59. > :24:02.afraid, 5 out of 10. And it's now nine home defeats in a row.

:24:02. > :24:06.Incredible, when you think Pools went nine without defeat, at the

:24:06. > :24:09.start of the season! But that's why they've brought back Neale Cooper,

:24:09. > :24:12.though Micky Barron was still in charge when they lost 3-1 at

:24:12. > :24:15.Sheffield United. The new boss was in charge for yesterday's game with

:24:15. > :24:18.Scunthorpe but it was the same old story. Fans remembered the club

:24:18. > :24:22.leading scorer Ken Johnson before kick off. His funeral's tomorrow.

:24:22. > :24:27.So Pools beaten 2-1 but after going 2-0 down they did, at least, score

:24:27. > :24:29.in front of their own fans for the first time since mid-October. In

:24:29. > :24:36.fact, they'd gone around 14 hours of playing-time, since their last

:24:36. > :24:43.goal in open play at the Vic. Andy Monkhouse the man on target.

:24:43. > :24:45.They you go, that is your sport. Plenty very much. A you could talk

:24:45. > :24:51.all night. The talk of the weather, the wind,

:24:51. > :24:55.a really strong last night. Your roof has paid the price.

:24:55. > :25:05.The north wing was lacking a few tiles this morning, I will get a

:25:05. > :25:12.

:25:12. > :25:17.few servants on to it. We look at The Cumbrian coast, up to 78. Many

:25:17. > :25:21.other places up to 70 miles an hour. A really stormy day. It will be

:25:21. > :25:28.stormy at times over the next few days. More wet and windy weather on

:25:28. > :25:35.the way on and off through the week. The cloud and rain rapping around

:25:35. > :25:39.the centre. Most of the heavy rain goes with it. Still a few wintry

:25:39. > :25:44.showers this evening. They will tend to die away. Most places dry

:25:44. > :25:54.up. In the gaps between those showers the temperatures will dip

:25:54. > :25:57.

:25:57. > :26:01.for a test of frost. A fair old breeze through the night. A fairly

:26:02. > :26:06.quiet start tomorrow. More weather on the way. A Met Office warning

:26:06. > :26:10.for heavy rain for Cumbria tomorrow. His start of mostly dry, the cloud

:26:10. > :26:14.begins from the West. We will start to see the rain get its act

:26:14. > :26:18.together. Once it sets in across Cumbria it is there for the rest of

:26:18. > :26:21.the day. Some of the rain will spill east of the Pennines but it

:26:21. > :26:31.will be more intermittent. The main problem for eastern areas will be

:26:31. > :26:31.

:26:31. > :26:36.the wind. The westerly wind very gusty. 5th of a very wet afternoon

:26:36. > :26:40.and evening for Cumbria. The rain stays with us as do the strong

:26:40. > :26:44.winds tomorrow evening. It is only well into the night the rain starts

:26:44. > :26:48.to clear away and many places start to dry up as we head into Thursday

:26:48. > :26:52.morning. Thursday looks a drier affair. A windy one, cold north-

:26:52. > :26:56.westerly wind. Most places will be drier and brighter before things

:26:56. > :27:00.start to cloud over from the West again as we head into Friday. After

:27:00. > :27:06.a dry start on Friday cloud and rain spreading in from the West was

:27:06. > :27:10.but wet and windy at times. Windy? You surprise me!

:27:10. > :27:13.Let's have a quick look at the headlines. Two men have been found

:27:13. > :27:17.guilty of murdering Stephen Lawrence, the black teenager was

:27:17. > :27:21.stabbed to death at a bus-stop in 1993.

:27:21. > :27:25.It has been revealed police confiscated Michael Atherton's
