:00:07. > :00:12.Good evening. The police have condemned joy-riders who stole an

:00:12. > :00:16.ambulance while it was on an emergency call in Hartlepool. The

:00:16. > :00:25.vehicle was taken as paramedics attended a call to a house in the

:00:25. > :00:31.town. Stuart Whincup has sent us this report from the scene.

:00:31. > :00:35.Paramedics were responding to an emergency here in Haler poor. They

:00:35. > :00:42.were inside a property treating somebody who had been assaulted,

:00:42. > :00:46.and the vehicle was taken from outside. All vehicles are fitted

:00:46. > :00:50.with a tracking device, and its movements were followed. It was

:00:50. > :00:56.taken around town and then dumped a few streets away. A police

:00:56. > :00:59.helicopter was called out as part of the search. Paramedics saved it

:00:59. > :01:04.was very lucky that the injured person did not need hospital

:01:04. > :01:08.treatment. The police say they believe it was joy riders who took

:01:08. > :01:11.the vehicle. It was a very serious incident that could have cost

:01:11. > :01:14.someone's life. A ten-year-old girl remains in a

:01:14. > :01:16.serious but stable condition in hospital after she was attacked in

:01:17. > :01:20.Stockton. The girl was reported missing from her home in Stockton

:01:20. > :01:24.on Saturday evening. But she was found by a member of the public a

:01:24. > :01:27.few hours later on a path with serious head injuries. Cleveland

:01:27. > :01:29.Police say the youngster was the victim of a serious assault and is

:01:29. > :01:32.being treated at Newcastle's RVI hospital. Detectives have applied

:01:32. > :01:37.for more time to question a 16- year-old boy in connection with the

:01:38. > :01:41.assault. A Workington woman who'd been

:01:41. > :01:43.missing from her home in the town for three days has today been found

:01:44. > :01:50.safe and well. 24-year-old Corinne Harrison went missing on Friday,

:01:50. > :01:52.but was found earlier today. It's the start of the 'digging-

:01:52. > :01:55.season' for archaeologists at Hadrian's Wall. Volunteers from all

:01:55. > :01:58.over the world have been getting their hands dirty excavating the

:01:58. > :02:01.Vindolanda site in Northumberland. And what drives them out in all the

:02:01. > :02:11.weathers? The chance to discover some hidden history from Roman

:02:11. > :02:11.

:02:11. > :02:16.times, as Sharuna Sagar reports. It's a dirty job and these people

:02:16. > :02:18.have actually volunteered to do it. They're amongst the first batch of

:02:18. > :02:28.amateur archeologists who over the summer will painstakingly excavate

:02:28. > :02:30.

:02:30. > :02:35.a whole new area of Vindolanda. are hoping for shops and houses,

:02:35. > :02:39.maybe a few temples, water tanks and aqueducts. We have some

:02:39. > :02:42.colossal ditches to look into, they should be full of Roman rubbish.

:02:42. > :02:51.And they've come from all over the world to rummidge for that Roman

:02:51. > :02:56.rubbish, even Italy. The first time I saw this site, it was so exciting,

:02:56. > :03:01.I said that I would be there one day. To know that somebody has

:03:01. > :03:05.built its, lived in its, knocked it down, every time we come here there

:03:05. > :03:08.is more progress. It's really exciting. There's a real hunger for

:03:08. > :03:14.a hands on experience to uncover history. In fact all 650 places

:03:14. > :03:18.were snapped up within hours of becoming available. The most

:03:18. > :03:23.exciting thing is getting physically involved in changing

:03:23. > :03:29.history, and discovering something. Under the turf, under the grass,

:03:29. > :03:33.you're never sure what you can find. Some people have completely changed

:03:33. > :03:37.our perception of history by finding a temple here. You are

:03:37. > :03:41.hoping for something similar? Something similar would be magical.

:03:41. > :03:44.Well it's only week one and the team is just scratching the surface,

:03:44. > :03:47.who knows what secrets they'll dig up over the coming months.

:03:47. > :03:50.Several thousand toy soldiers collected over 50-years have gone

:03:50. > :03:53.on display at a new museum in Silloth in Cumbria. They're all

:03:53. > :03:55.owned by local man Tim Barker and include scenes and soldiers from

:03:55. > :04:05.almost every period of military history. Mark McAlindon has been

:04:05. > :04:09.

:04:10. > :04:14.for a look. This is an astonishing collection,

:04:14. > :04:21.vast in scale and range. It has been put together over decades by

:04:21. > :04:26.Tim Barker. I have some figures made in Russia, that are not

:04:26. > :04:34.plastic, but they are based on a Russian revolutionary paintings of

:04:34. > :04:39.the Red Army, which have a wonderful, unique quality to them.

:04:39. > :04:44.They have an oriental style, the figures are the same, the horses

:04:44. > :04:48.are brilliant. It is great stuff. Looking around, you can see why

:04:48. > :04:53.these items are so collectible. Many are unique, they are

:04:53. > :04:59.beautifully decorated. This colourful collection also provides

:04:59. > :05:03.a fascinating glimpse into war history. This is a we creation of

:05:03. > :05:10.the Battle of Waterloo. This shows how battlefield tactics have

:05:10. > :05:19.changed, and history has moved on. I wanted to turn it into some kind

:05:19. > :05:25.of museum, a bit of a tourist resort. It is something people are

:05:25. > :05:29.interested in. One person can't accumulate a thing like this and

:05:29. > :05:33.hide it away. Small boys, old men and everyone in between are likely

:05:33. > :05:36.to find something here to please. Football now and in the Premier

:05:36. > :05:39.League mixed fortunes for our two clubs. A heavy defeat for

:05:39. > :05:41.Sunderland, but Newcastle United moved level on points with 4th

:05:41. > :05:43.placed Tottenham this afternoon. Their 2-0 home win over Bolton

:05:43. > :05:49.increases their chances of playing Champions League football next

:05:49. > :05:54.season. A superb individual goal from this

:05:54. > :05:58.man, Hatem Ben Arfa, was the turning point. He ran more than

:05:58. > :06:03.half the length of the pitch to put the Magpies in front with less than

:06:03. > :06:06.twenty minutes left. Until then, struggling Bolton hadn't let

:06:06. > :06:09.Newcastle get into top gear and had even enjoyed the best chances. But

:06:09. > :06:13.Papiss Cisse's 10th goal in 9 games sealed the victory. A hint of

:06:13. > :06:19.offside perhaps but Newcastle fans won't care - a top four finish is

:06:19. > :06:24.now a real possibility. We are going to give it a go. We are

:06:24. > :06:28.enjoying it, we are enjoying our football. Aid is a bit of fun for

:06:28. > :06:34.Russ, Champions League football. We have stoat as time, we are looking

:06:34. > :06:37.forward to that. -- Stoke. As for Sunderland, their poor league

:06:37. > :06:39.record against Everton at Goodison Park goes on. Even though the FA

:06:39. > :06:42.Cup semi-finalists made five changes, they scored four second

:06:42. > :06:44.half goals to deny the Black Cats revenge for their quarter-final

:06:44. > :06:46.defeat. In the Championship, a late Hull

:06:46. > :06:49.City winner dented Middlesbrough's play-off hopes. And both Carlisle

:06:49. > :06:51.and Hartlepool had to settle for goalless draws in League One.

:06:51. > :07:00.goalless draws in League One. Time for the weather forecast now -

:07:00. > :07:05.here's Trai Anfield. Another dreary and wet bank holiday,

:07:05. > :07:11.no surprises there. A little bit brighter for the rest of the week.

:07:11. > :07:16.Some bright spells and some hefty showers. We have a front, it will

:07:16. > :07:21.grind to a halt in front of us. Some heavy rain coming in across

:07:21. > :07:28.Cumbria. At least one inch of rain fall. Some heavy snow on the tops

:07:28. > :07:34.of those hills. Temperatures between 3-5 Celsius. That clears

:07:34. > :07:40.away on Tuesday, some bright spells and a rash of showers in the

:07:40. > :07:47.afternoon. We could get a touch of sleet in the north. Those

:07:47. > :07:49.temperatures between 8 -11 degrees the rest of the week, sunshine and
