:00:00. > :00:00.power cuts to thousands of homes. Now we can join the news

:00:00. > :00:16.Welcome to Monday's Look North. The headlines. It has ruined my life.

:00:17. > :00:22.The woman who leaked details about Cumbria

:00:23. > :00:29.the travel delays continue this evening. Many trains are cancelled.

:00:30. > :00:35.We're live with the latest. . She lost her daughter. Now a mother

:00:36. > :00:46.is going to Downing Street to campaign for changes to the organ

:00:47. > :00:54.donor register. The call never came. And the hidden prison sentence being

:00:55. > :01:01.faced by many children. In sport, what does it mean to win a

:01:02. > :01:12.derby match, well when you haven't won a match all season it looks like

:01:13. > :01:18.this. It ruined my life, but I would do it

:01:19. > :01:23.again. The words of Ree Brown, who has spoken publicly for the first

:01:24. > :01:27.time about being suspended by Cumbria Police. In April she leaked

:01:28. > :01:31.details to journalists of two chauffeur driven trips taken by the

:01:32. > :01:37.county's Police and Crime Commissioner. The journeys cost a

:01:38. > :01:42.total of ?700. They led to widespread criticism of Richard

:01:43. > :01:48.Rhodes. She worked as a civilian for Cumbria

:01:49. > :01:51.Police for more than a decade. But when Ree Brown highlighted what she

:01:52. > :01:55.thought was inappropriate spending, she found herself under arrest.

:01:56. > :01:59.Officers searched her home and removed electrical equipment. She

:02:00. > :02:09.and her husband or question four hours. I was treated like a

:02:10. > :02:20.criminal. It felt like my life was unravelling. I can't believe they

:02:21. > :02:26.didn't. Ree Brown was working as the union representative. A colleague

:02:27. > :02:30.notified of that Richard Rhodes had taken two chauffeur driven journeys

:02:31. > :02:36.costing hundreds of pounds. He hadn't declared the expenses. So she

:02:37. > :02:39.contacted the papers anonymously. Richard Rhodes has since apologised

:02:40. > :02:48.for his mistake and repaid the money. This was at a time when the

:02:49. > :02:51.force was making redundancies. I was spending most of my working life

:02:52. > :02:57.working with people who were getting made redundant. Most people have

:02:58. > :03:06.congratulated me. They said they thought I would get a slap on the

:03:07. > :03:15.wrist. Ree Brown is suspended from work. She now takes antidepressants.

:03:16. > :03:28.It has totally changed my life. I have been isolated. It has been the

:03:29. > :03:35.worst 61 six months of my life. Do you regret doing it? I would try to

:03:36. > :03:43.ensure the only person who went through everything I have gone

:03:44. > :03:50.through as just me. What have Cumbria Police had to say? They have

:03:51. > :03:56.said that there are processes that can be followed by whistle`blowers.

:03:57. > :04:01.But Ree Brown said she believed those processes only applied to the

:04:02. > :04:07.police force itself and not those involving the Police and Crime

:04:08. > :04:19.Commissioner. Ree Brown remain suspended from work well the

:04:20. > :04:23.investigation continues. We have escaped the extreme weather

:04:24. > :04:27.that has battered much of southern England, but its effect are still

:04:28. > :04:31.being felt here. The biggest problems have been on the railways.

:04:32. > :04:35.Dozens of East Coast services to and from London were cancelled or

:04:36. > :04:40.severely delayed. No services were running any hour out of King's

:04:41. > :04:50.Cross. Services from Carlisle on the West Coast were also hit. Let's go

:04:51. > :04:54.over to Darlington station. It has been a north`south divide

:04:55. > :05:07.weather`wise for the past 24 hours. For anybody travelling, it has been

:05:08. > :05:09.a real day of disruption. In York, I have been speaking to East Coast

:05:10. > :05:22.Trains about how they have been coping. We we have been advising

:05:23. > :05:27.passengers today not to travel if they are going to London. We are

:05:28. > :05:40.working very hard to get everything back up and running. We normally run

:05:41. > :05:44.156 services every day. It is having a big impact. We are sorry for the

:05:45. > :05:53.disruption but I'm sure people will understand. The storm started at the

:05:54. > :06:00.beginning of the half term break, so this affected many different people.

:06:01. > :06:09.Business people. I have been speaking to people here who arrived

:06:10. > :06:15.here only to be disappointed. I was travelling to a conference, but any

:06:16. > :06:21.train south of Peterborough have been cancelled. I don't think I am

:06:22. > :06:24.going anywhere today. I can see a lot of people are leaving. I'm

:06:25. > :06:32.expecting bad news. It has been pretty bad. Farther south, there

:06:33. > :06:37.have been tragic consequences. In the last couple of hours, we have

:06:38. > :06:45.been hearing about how a Newcastle to Amsterdam fairy had to return to

:06:46. > :06:50.say before it entered port. Anybody who has been delayed today as a

:06:51. > :06:57.result of the trains, can use the tickets tomorrow.

:06:58. > :07:00.A woman has told a court how she screamed and try to fight off a man

:07:01. > :07:05.as she was been sexually assaulted on Teeside. Wayne Anthony Scott is

:07:06. > :07:12.accused of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault.

:07:13. > :07:21.The charges relate to two incidents involving one woman. In 2006 Wayne

:07:22. > :07:28.Anthony Scott was kissing a woman and then wanted to take things for

:07:29. > :07:41.the. The woman told the man now, but he continued. She schemed. She

:07:42. > :07:47.thought neighbours would hear her. But he continued. He started

:07:48. > :07:53.laughing. Eventually he stopped what he was doing. The woman said she

:07:54. > :08:01.felt angry and scared. The second incident happened a short time

:08:02. > :08:09.later. Wayne Anthony Scott to cover to cover in his car. When Anthony

:08:10. > :08:14.Scott faces the separate charges of rape, attempted rape and sexual

:08:15. > :08:20.assault. He denies all the charges. The case is expected to last five

:08:21. > :08:24.days. The former Newcastle United

:08:25. > :08:30.footballer Nile Ranger has denied raping a woman at a hotel in the

:08:31. > :08:36.city. Ranger, 22, was accused of the attack in January. He attended court

:08:37. > :08:43.today to formally denied the allegation.

:08:44. > :08:46.A current Newcastle United midfielder has avoided prison but

:08:47. > :08:54.was handed a seven`month suspended sentence today. The Ivory Coast

:08:55. > :09:00.international pleaded guilty and has been ordered to complete 180 hours

:09:01. > :09:04.of community work. Police have praised the behaviour of

:09:05. > :09:13.football fans after yesterday 's Wear`Tyne derby. Double 120 arrests.

:09:14. > :09:22.A canoeist who died after his vessel capsized has been named as Andrew

:09:23. > :09:28.Poole on. Her baby daughter Miley died last

:09:29. > :09:32.year after waiting for a heart transplant. Her mother has now

:09:33. > :09:36.launched a campaign to see morning spit on the organ donor register.

:09:37. > :09:46.Sharon Eckert is taking a petition to Downing Street. It calls for the

:09:47. > :09:51.system to change. Holding onto the memories of her

:09:52. > :09:59.baby daughter. Miley died last November. She was just 14 weeks old.

:10:00. > :10:10.Miley was born with a heart defect. Her only hope of surviving was a

:10:11. > :10:18.heart transplant. We have to create. Despite an urgent appeal, doctors

:10:19. > :10:29.could not trace a donor. She was at the top of the list. It was a case

:10:30. > :10:37.of waiting. It was horrendous. We were always waiting for the phone to

:10:38. > :10:45.ring. But it never came. Although it was too late to save Miley, Sharon

:10:46. > :10:51.Eckert has told her anger `` anguish into productivity. She once

:10:52. > :11:01.everybody automatically enrolled on the organ donor register. Nobody

:11:02. > :11:08.wants to lose their child. If people can help then they should do. This

:11:09. > :11:18.change to the system would help so many people. On November the 12th,

:11:19. > :11:23.she is planning to travel to Downing Street with the petition. It has

:11:24. > :11:27.already been signed by 1500 people. She wants to present it to the Prime

:11:28. > :11:40.Minister, in the hope that others needing a donor might have a greater

:11:41. > :11:49.chance than Miley dead. `` dead. Coming up. Why this man's latest

:11:50. > :12:02.adventure may prove to be one too many. And I will be here with the

:12:03. > :12:04.weather. Having a family member sent to

:12:05. > :12:10.prison is a difficult time for anybody. But what effect does it

:12:11. > :12:14.have on children. More than 9000 children in the North East will

:12:15. > :12:21.experience it. It is often be a mum or dad. In our region, a large

:12:22. > :12:29.percentage of children with relative serving eight prison sentence from

:12:30. > :12:37.Middlesbrough. I can spend a lot of time trying. It

:12:38. > :12:44.is hard. Raising her daughter as a single parent, this woman does not

:12:45. > :12:52.want to be identified. She is not believed or widowed. Her partner is

:12:53. > :13:00.in prison. It is hard. Day`to`day life is hard. Going to visit dad in

:13:01. > :13:08.prison is a mix of upsetting experience for mother and daughter.

:13:09. > :14:13.Once we get there we do not want to leave. It is heartbreaking. I

:14:14. > :14:27.remember sitting by the television and waiting by the phone. It was

:14:28. > :14:41.very difficult. They both support others to have drink and drug

:14:42. > :14:54.addictions. She helped me with my here. She was sat with me and we

:14:55. > :15:07.were having fun. It made a big difference. They hope that this

:15:08. > :15:17.story will provide inspiration. There will be a see is of reports

:15:18. > :15:21.about this story. He ran from John O'Groats to lands

:15:22. > :15:27.end in 40 days. But if that wasn't enough, he wore a fridge on his

:15:28. > :15:32.back. This is the latest in a string of brutal challenges. This time he

:15:33. > :15:40.may have done himself some serious damage. Medical experts are trying

:15:41. > :15:46.to find out why the morning after the great North run they couldn't

:15:47. > :15:50.walk. This man is a endurance runner. He

:15:51. > :15:59.has become famous for completing impossible challenges. His most

:16:00. > :16:05.recent challenge may have been one too far. The day after the Great

:16:06. > :16:12.North Run, Tony walked up to find out that he could not walk. He now

:16:13. > :16:22.faces the possibility that his efforts have resulted in serious

:16:23. > :16:29.damage. The outcome will be that I cannot run for a while. As he

:16:30. > :16:34.underwent an emergency scan he reflected on a schedule that by his

:16:35. > :16:39.own admission is not sensible. Just think for a moment about what he has

:16:40. > :16:48.done. 30 Great North Run is on the 40 days. 40 marathons. And a run

:16:49. > :16:53.that has now left him unable to walk. Even his supporters tried to

:16:54. > :17:05.call a halt on his very first challenge. It was on the Great North

:17:06. > :17:09.Run. I was trying to pull him out. It was raining, he was wearing

:17:10. > :17:20.trainers that help you get on the front foot. So far Tony has raised

:17:21. > :17:31.?90,000 for charity. But why does he put himself through such punishment.

:17:32. > :17:44.It was about a burden, the people that I have lost to cancer. I felt

:17:45. > :17:48.that burden, I still do. Tony has learned but whatever the problem, it

:17:49. > :17:51.was not his back. Is this the end? And you can see that exclusive

:17:52. > :18:00.report on Inside Out tonight at 7.30 here on BBC One. Now, though ` it's

:18:01. > :18:04.time for Team Talk. Always plenty to talk about, after a North East

:18:05. > :18:07.derby. And while Sunderland fans are no doubt still celebrating, they

:18:08. > :18:13.should really see it as just a start? Yes ` their first win of the

:18:14. > :18:16.season, against their biggest rivals, they'll obviously enjoy

:18:17. > :18:21.that. But even more importantly, it lifted them off the bottom of the

:18:22. > :18:25.Premier League table. And if they can take something from next week's

:18:26. > :18:28.trip to Hull ` and their old boss Steve Bruce ` they'll have a chance

:18:29. > :18:31.of catching the rest. A win was long`overdue, wasn't it?

:18:32. > :18:41.And if they're going to stay up, they'll need to keep Steven Fletcher

:18:42. > :18:47.fit for the rest of the season. The strikers linked up quite well. They

:18:48. > :18:52.will need that partnership to work. The truth of it is that Sunderland

:18:53. > :18:58.simply had to win to stave off relegation fears. They wanted it

:18:59. > :19:02.more. But it did not look like they would get the second goal until that

:19:03. > :19:10.substitution was made. Adam Johnson not very happy. And this is the

:19:11. > :19:19.winner. Was that a free kick? It looked soft. Was the ball moving? I

:19:20. > :19:24.think it probably was. But not many people complaining. The referee let

:19:25. > :19:30.them get on with it, and what a finish! Superb! He has now got to be

:19:31. > :19:36.in the starting line`up for next week. And what about Newcastle? Well

:19:37. > :19:40.a second successive derby defeat ` and home games against Man City and

:19:41. > :19:43.Chelsea this week ` certainly cranks up the pressure on manager Alan

:19:44. > :19:47.Pardew ` although the fact his squad's a bit thin is probably more

:19:48. > :19:58.down to the Director of Football, Joe Kinnear. He certainly missed his

:19:59. > :20:02.two key central defenders. Newcastle seemed to be surprised by the temple

:20:03. > :20:08.that Sunderland started the game at. For all their possession and the

:20:09. > :20:15.fact that they were on top for large periods of the game, they were

:20:16. > :20:21.restricted to long`range efforts. Sunderland are generally managed to

:20:22. > :20:25.keep them at arms length. Eventually, Newcastle got the

:20:26. > :20:30.equaliser. Obviously enjoyed on the bench. Most people thought there

:20:31. > :20:37.would only be one winner after that. But they could not find it.

:20:38. > :20:45.And not a happy camper, the club have banned the local newspapers for

:20:46. > :20:52.the coverage. But the fans, most of them, unhappy. You cannot lose two

:20:53. > :20:58.games against Sunderland in a calendar year and keep your job. He

:20:59. > :21:05.must resign. Not enough heart for me. I disappointed for the

:21:06. > :21:14.supporters and the team. We deserved win. But we switched off a little

:21:15. > :21:24.bit, professionalism has cost us. If anybody needed that, we did. A long

:21:25. > :21:29.time overdue! Off the bottom, that is something. Defeated our biggest

:21:30. > :21:35.rivals, even bigger. Now we must keep it up. From now on, no excuses.

:21:36. > :21:38.A fantastic win for Middlesbrough on Friday under caretaker boss Mark

:21:39. > :21:41.Venus who was in the hot`seat after Tony Mowbray was sacked last Monday.

:21:42. > :21:45.Venus made six changes to the starting line up and it seemed to

:21:46. > :21:48.have an immediate impact. In front of almost 22,000 ` their biggest

:21:49. > :21:51.home crowd of the season ` Middlesbrough pulled out all the

:21:52. > :21:54.stops. Albert Adomah lobbing former Boro keeper Ross Turnbull for the

:21:55. > :21:57.opener. The Ghana international headed in his second goal of the

:21:58. > :22:02.night in a period they totally dominated to send Boro into the

:22:03. > :22:08.break two up. When the Teessiders had the ball they looked

:22:09. > :22:11.unstoppable. Kei Kamara tapping in Grant Leadbitter's free kick midway

:22:12. > :22:14.through the second half. Like watching a completely different side

:22:15. > :22:17.from the one that lost to Barnsley last weekend. Marvin Emnes did

:22:18. > :22:20.everything except score ` but from the resulting corner new loan

:22:21. > :22:23.signing Daniel Ayala headed in Boro's fourth to end an impressive

:22:24. > :22:26.night at the Riverside and boost Mark Venus' chances of getting the

:22:27. > :22:29.job full time. Well, before the weekend, Bristol City's last league

:22:30. > :22:33.win came against Middlesbrough when they were still in the Championship.

:22:34. > :22:36.And with City now struggling at the bottom of League One Carlisle must

:22:37. > :22:40.have thought it was three points in the bag when Sean O'Hanlon's bullet

:22:41. > :22:42.header put them ahead. But a second half hat`trick from Jay

:22:43. > :22:45.Emmanuel`Thomas and a fabulous goal from Scott Wagstaff ensured City got

:22:46. > :22:53.their first league victory in 22 games ` Liam Noble's powerful drive

:22:54. > :22:57.unfortunately just a consolation. In League Two, Hartlepool's five match

:22:58. > :23:03.winning run came to an end at Scunthorpe. Pool looked the most

:23:04. > :23:06.likely to make the breakthrough but keeper Sam Slocombe pulled out some

:23:07. > :23:14.top drawer saves before Sam Winnall capitalised on a defensive slip up

:23:15. > :23:18.to fire home the winner. And it continues to be a struggle for York

:23:19. > :23:21.City. Manager Nigel Worthington praised his players for their

:23:22. > :23:29.fighting spirit but a goal in each half saw third top Fleetwood pick up

:23:30. > :23:33.their first win in four games. And just before we leave football, we

:23:34. > :23:36.had to show you this great goal from County Durham's Jordan Nobbs. The

:23:37. > :23:39.Arsenal and ex`Sunderland midfielder opened the scoring as England made

:23:40. > :23:45.it three wins out of three in their latest 2015 World Cup qualifier

:23:46. > :23:53.against Wales. It finished 2`0. In basketball, Newcastle Eagles

:23:54. > :23:56.suffered their defeat of the season. `` second defeat. The Eagles took

:23:57. > :23:59.the lead in the third quarter but table topping Worcester Wolves

:24:00. > :24:02.fought back in the final period to win 80`71. The Eagles are now fourth

:24:03. > :24:06.in the BBL. And in rugby union Newcastle Falcons

:24:07. > :24:10.are up to eighth in the Premiership after their first home win of the

:24:11. > :24:14.season. In difficult conditions at Kingston Park Adam Powell sealed a

:24:15. > :24:16.try for the Falcons after good work from the forwards to put Newcastle

:24:17. > :24:20.on level terms. Phil Godman's conversion gave them a narrow lead.

:24:21. > :24:24.But the game ended in high drama when Shane Geraghty lined up a

:24:25. > :24:32.penalty to win the match for Irish only for the ball to be blown off

:24:33. > :24:35.the tee twice. In his panic to take it before time ran out his kick feel

:24:36. > :24:39.short and the Falcons celebrated their third win of the campaign. The

:24:40. > :24:44.real nailbiter. Finally, the Rugby League World Cup reaches our region

:24:45. > :24:47.tomorrow. That's right and I'll be live at Derwent Park in Workington

:24:48. > :24:52.as Scotland ` seen here training in nearby Whitehaven ` take on Tonga.

:24:53. > :24:55.It should be a great atmosphere, and to whet the appetite BBC Radio

:24:56. > :25:01.Cumbria's breakfast show is coming live from Derwent Park with Mike

:25:02. > :25:08.Zeller from 6.30 tomorrow morning. And now the weather.

:25:09. > :25:15.It will be quite showery across Cumbria tonight. Here is a photo

:25:16. > :25:23.showing some of the instability associated with the storm which did

:25:24. > :25:30.affect our region. Thank you very much to Paul. The headline tomorrow,

:25:31. > :25:38.bright and breezy. Be quieter day of weather. In Cumbria first, showers

:25:39. > :25:41.this evening. But by the end to make most parts will be dry and clear.

:25:42. > :25:50.That could allow it to get quite chilly. First thing tomorrow, bright

:25:51. > :25:55.skies across much of north Yorkshire and the north`east. Showers in the

:25:56. > :26:00.West but there will be spells of sunshine for Cumbria, particularly

:26:01. > :26:07.in the light afternoon. Dry and fame across much of the East of the

:26:08. > :26:14.region. `` fine. Top temperatures, ten, 11 Celsius. Feeling cooler

:26:15. > :26:24.wherever you are exposed to it risk, noticeable westerly wind. `` a

:26:25. > :26:29.brisk. Sporting fixtures in the west of Cumbria and across Lakeland.

:26:30. > :26:33.After tomorrow, this high pressure will generally settle things. Then

:26:34. > :26:40.the low pressure takes over again from Wednesday. Expect the worst of

:26:41. > :26:45.the weather in the West. Heavy rain across Cumbria on Wednesday.

:26:46. > :26:50.Temperatures just a little bit higher but lower than the wealth of

:26:51. > :26:59.much of last week. `` than they were. We did have a touch of frost

:27:00. > :27:05.in the East. Clear skies first thing on Wednesday evening. `` morning.

:27:06. > :27:12.Spells of brightness later in the week much more likely to be further

:27:13. > :27:15.east. Friday, a mix of sunshine and showers.

:27:16. > :27:53.This is Malcolm, who owns Iceland. He's the one

:27:54. > :27:56.that's going to present us with the ten grand. When we win it.

:27:57. > :27:59.You've just got to make it as bearable

:28:00. > :28:03.Here we are in the PR nerve centre of Iceland

:28:04. > :28:06.at the end of 96 hours of total hell.

:28:07. > :28:11.But we haven't tested for dog or cat either.

:28:12. > :28:13.Is this the warmest supermarket around?

:28:14. > :28:17.Iceland Foods - Life in the Freezer Cabinet.
