:00:10. > :00:15.Good evening. Her family and friends are desperately hoping the police
:00:16. > :00:18.are wrong. But the search for missing student Megan Roberts is
:00:19. > :00:21.becoming more and more focused on the River Ouse in the centre of
:00:22. > :00:34.York. 20`year`old Megan's been missing for six days now.
:00:35. > :00:40.It has been dark here for about five hours. Police divers have been
:00:41. > :00:46.searching the River Ouse. It is a weak sense Megan Roberts went
:00:47. > :00:52.missing and police say that foul play is unlikely. She had been
:00:53. > :00:58.drinking and police say it is likely she fell into the river. On one of
:00:59. > :01:01.the coldest days of the winter. The strongest and most probable line of
:01:02. > :01:09.inquiry being pursued by the police is that Megan, affected by alcohol,
:01:10. > :01:12.has entered the river. Clearly we will not be any position to confirm
:01:13. > :01:20.this to be the case until Megan is found. The police have been
:01:21. > :01:24.searching the area, looking around about a half`mile stretch of river
:01:25. > :01:29.bank. Police said there is no link to the Claudia Lawrence
:01:30. > :01:32.investigation. Speculation about her having a stock which appeared in the
:01:33. > :01:38.press and on social media can be discounted. Police said a family are
:01:39. > :01:43.desperate for information and they want anyone with information to
:01:44. > :01:46.contact them on 101. The search will resume in the morning.
:01:47. > :01:49.A nursery worker's described her horror at learning that a toddler
:01:50. > :01:52.she'd been looking after had been strangled in an accident on a
:01:53. > :01:55.playground slide. Sophee Redhead denies the manslaughter by gross
:01:56. > :02:01.negligence of three`year`old Lydia Bishop at York College Nursery.
:02:02. > :02:07.Lydia Bishop died tragically on the first full day of the York nursery
:02:08. > :02:10.on September the 17th 2012. She had been under the supervision of
:02:11. > :02:15.part`time nursery assistant Sophee Redhead. She had been sitting on a
:02:16. > :02:19.picnic bench on the playground after a lunch break. Everything seemed to
:02:20. > :02:23.be normal. She dabbed her eyes as she recalled when the alert had been
:02:24. > :02:28.raised about Lydia being missing she had run to the slide seeing
:02:29. > :02:33.something white there. It turned out to be Lydia's trousers. She had been
:02:34. > :02:38.strangled by a rope hanging from the slide. She had carried Lydia into
:02:39. > :02:42.the nursery building. The assistant said she was shocked and all the
:02:43. > :02:46.staff were crying. The court had heard that the ropes had not been
:02:47. > :02:49.removed from the slide after play and children should not have been
:02:50. > :02:52.allowed there unsupervised. Cross`examined, Sophee Redhead
:02:53. > :02:59.denied she had seen Lydia Bishop walk past her on her way to the
:03:00. > :03:02.slide that day. She said she thought Lydia had gone back inside the
:03:03. > :03:09.nursery after playing in the sand pit. She denied failing in her duty
:03:10. > :03:12.of supervision. The jury were told that York College Nursery, who deny
:03:13. > :03:18.breaches of health and safety regulations, had enjoyed good
:03:19. > :03:21.reports since it was opened in 2007. As well as the gross negligence
:03:22. > :03:31.charge, Sophee Redhead also denies failing to take reasonable care of
:03:32. > :03:34.Lydia Bishop. The trial continues. Police investigating alleged sexual
:03:35. > :03:37.abuse of teenage girls and young women on Tyneside have made a
:03:38. > :03:41.further five arrests after raids in Newcastle and South Tyneside. It
:03:42. > :03:47.takes the number of people arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rape
:03:48. > :03:50.to 26, including two women. Carlisle City Council is removing
:03:51. > :03:54.slides and swings from some of its play parks because it says it can't
:03:55. > :04:03.afford to maintain them. The council will save ?25,000.
:04:04. > :04:07.Having fun close to home. These few items of play equipment in Belah are
:04:08. > :04:11.a focal point for families. But soon they're being removed. The council
:04:12. > :04:17.says budget cuts mean it's unaffordable. The first thing
:04:18. > :04:20.children should have is a safe place to play. The government talk about
:04:21. > :04:26.levels of obesity and crime in local areas and yet at the same time they
:04:27. > :04:29.want to save peanuts, really. The NHS is spending billions on obesity
:04:30. > :04:39.and child obesity is upwards towards 20%. Carlisle City Council says it's
:04:40. > :04:42.not shutting the 21 play parks across the city from which it's
:04:43. > :04:45.removing its equipment. In fact it says they're still very much open
:04:46. > :04:50.for what they are calling "imaginative play". I'm not happy
:04:51. > :04:53.having to do this. If I'm going to blame anybody, I'm blaming the
:04:54. > :04:58.government. They are hammering local authorities by cutting funds. We
:04:59. > :05:05.could spread the jam thinly, but by doing so we would be making some of
:05:06. > :05:08.the play areas unsafe. I don't believe that the priorities of
:05:09. > :05:12.Carlisle should be an arts centre at ?1 million and another ?125,000 a
:05:13. > :05:16.year to run. A fraction of that money could be used to reinvest in
:05:17. > :05:19.the play areas around Carlisle. It would be of far more benefit to the
:05:20. > :05:23.children. The council says every Carlisle child will still have a
:05:24. > :05:32.play park within 500 metres of home. And ?60,000 is being spent on
:05:33. > :05:36.improving those that remain. The route of the Queen's Baton Relay
:05:37. > :05:39.in England has been announced ahead of this summer's Commonwealth Games
:05:40. > :05:43.in Glasgow. The baton will come to Newcastle and Gateshead on July 13th
:05:44. > :05:46.visiting the Angel of the North and the Quayside before travelling to
:05:47. > :05:53.Alnwick for an overnight stay at the Castle on its way to Scotland.
:05:54. > :05:56.Football, and if you don't want to know the score tonight of
:05:57. > :06:04.Sunderland's match against Stoke, you know what to do. The Black Cats
:06:05. > :06:06.won 1`0, giving them three points. Adam Johnson scored the winning goal
:06:07. > :06:10.after 17 minutes meaning Sunderland climb out of the bottom three for
:06:11. > :06:13.the first time since August. And you can see highlights from
:06:14. > :06:21.tonight's game on Match of the Day, which follows this bulletin.

:07:23. > :07:40.Goodnight. Hello. The next dose of wet and
:07:41. > :07:44.windy weather is due to arrive on Friday from the Atlantic. Today we
:07:45. > :07:49.have had an easterly wind bringing the chill as the threat of icy

:07:55. > :07:58.south. Maybe some sleet and snow in parts of East Wales as we engage the
:07:59. > :08:01.cold air. Temperatures in the south-east are not changing much
:08:02. > :08:05.because the rain keeps going. It will be colder further north,
:08:06. > :08:10.though. Icy patches are possible. More wintry showers in the
