:00:00. > :00:09.confiscated and destroyed, well that must be galling. Will Gompertz,
:00:10. > :00:15.Hello, good evening from Look North. The trial began today of a
:00:16. > :00:19.businessman accused of murdering his wife. Mark Arthur ran a computer
:00:20. > :00:23.services company with his wife Heather, from their home in the
:00:24. > :00:26.Newcastle suburb of Gosforth. It's where she was found stabbed to
:00:27. > :00:29.death, last April. Our correspondent, Peter Harris sent
:00:30. > :00:42.this report from Newcastle Crown Court.
:00:43. > :00:49.She was a singer in a jazz band that had been having an affair with the
:00:50. > :00:54.saxophonist. On the morning of 29 April, she told her husband that was
:00:55. > :01:00.over. The prosecution alleges he could not handle that and he stabbed
:01:01. > :01:09.her through the heart. From there, he went to a GP surgery and told the
:01:10. > :01:14.staff he had hurt his wife. The court also heard the tales of text
:01:15. > :01:20.messages she had said to her lover saying she was shaking in fear that
:01:21. > :01:23.the prospect of telling him the marriage was over, and she also
:01:24. > :01:29.periodically complained about his behaviour. He has admitted
:01:30. > :01:39.manslaughter but the knives model around the trial continues. ``
:01:40. > :01:47.demonise Marder. A senior MP has called for action
:01:48. > :01:54.after a fire has been raging for five months. The fire broke out last
:01:55. > :01:58.September, in a huge mound of waste carpet stored on land at Thrunton in
:01:59. > :02:00.Northumberland. Putting the fire out risked contaminating the nearby
:02:01. > :02:04.natural water supply, and so it was left to burn. Julie Smith reports.
:02:05. > :02:07.This fire has affected daily life here in Thrunton for the last five
:02:08. > :02:11.months. It's now around 85`90% out. But getting this far is down to the
:02:12. > :02:16.daily efforts of the landowner. It's not his waste, but his concern is
:02:17. > :02:21.bigger. He began this effort to protect the natural water supply
:02:22. > :02:30.that lies beneath the land. And now that water is back under threat.
:02:31. > :02:34.This is the type of stuff that is coming off it and it smells and
:02:35. > :02:39.looks horrific. We are taking preventative measures but we know it
:02:40. > :02:42.is percolating through the ground. The Environment Agency test the
:02:43. > :02:45.water on a weekly basis. And three weeks ago they served an enforcement
:02:46. > :02:49.notice on the site operator Blackwater North East. They have
:02:50. > :02:59.three weeks left to remove all this waste or store it securely.
:03:00. > :03:05.The environment agency permission for the material to be put there and
:03:06. > :03:10.it is now their job to deal with the consequences of what I think was a
:03:11. > :03:16.mistake in the first place. The fears this will eventually seep into
:03:17. > :03:21.the aquifer and it will affect our water supply. If that happens we
:03:22. > :03:28.will not have any water at all and they will have to find ways of
:03:29. > :03:32.dealing with it. No one knows yet when the fire will be at or what the
:03:33. > :03:39.long`term environmental impact will be.
:03:40. > :03:42.The two soldiers who dry when their car hit a tree in North Yorkshire
:03:43. > :03:46.have been named. Trooper Mark McKeen, who was driving the car, was
:03:47. > :03:49.23 and from Northern Ireland. His passenger, Private Codie Richardson,
:03:50. > :03:52.was 20 and from Stockton. They were killed when their car left the road
:03:53. > :03:55.in Catterick Garrison just after eight o'clock on Saturday night.
:03:56. > :03:58.Cumbria's former Chief Constable has broken his silence about his year
:03:59. > :04:02.long suspension from the force in an exclusive interview with the BBC's
:04:03. > :04:06.Inside Out programme. Stuart Hyde was investigated over allegations of
:04:07. > :04:11.misconduct, but was cleared of all charges. He's now retired from the
:04:12. > :04:21.force and has described how he felt when he realised he was under
:04:22. > :04:26.investigation. 6pm I received a phone call to say could I go
:04:27. > :04:31.immediately to committee room two and CD chair of the authority. I was
:04:32. > :04:39.absolutely devastated and made this `` resuspended me. I felt as if the
:04:40. > :04:43.bottom had dropped out of my life. And you can see the full report on
:04:44. > :04:45.Stuart Hyde in Inside Out for the next seven days, via the BBC
:04:46. > :04:48.iPlayer. She's the only female Tory MP in our
:04:49. > :04:51.region. Nonetheless, Anne McIntosh was deselected by her local party
:04:52. > :04:54.association on Friday. It's still making waves in her North Yorkshire
:04:55. > :05:02.constituency. Jonathan Swingler has been hearing voters' reactions.
:05:03. > :05:05.The next election will be an interesting one. Anne McIntosh has
:05:06. > :05:11.said she plans to fight for the seat although she will not be the
:05:12. > :05:17.Conservative candidate. I think it is wrong and it seems like they are
:05:18. > :05:22.getting rid of her. Would it put you off voting Tory in the future? Yes.
:05:23. > :05:32.Would you vote for him again? Yes, I would. She spent a lot of time in
:05:33. > :05:38.London. You never really hear what she has done so I do not have a lot
:05:39. > :05:45.to say. What do you make of it? I think she was fantastic. I think it
:05:46. > :05:49.is a bad thing if they get rid of her. The MP in question didn't want
:05:50. > :05:53.to be interviewed today. On Friday she was in fighting mood after being
:05:54. > :05:59.deselected. I do not intend to be thrown aside
:06:00. > :06:02.by a small group. It is for my constituency as a whole to dismiss
:06:03. > :06:05.me if they wish to do so. Meanwhile the chairman of the local
:06:06. > :06:08.party association has denied calling her a silly little girl and
:06:09. > :06:13.accusations that he doesn't like working with women. It is totally
:06:14. > :06:18.and utterly untrue. We want to go for an open selection. We will ask
:06:19. > :06:22.for the best candidates to come forward and whoever returns, we will
:06:23. > :06:28.support them. This political row has made national headlines.
:06:29. > :06:32.That's our news this evening. I'll wish you a peaceful night, and
:06:33. > :06:34.before our national weather forecast let's find out what Hannah's got
:06:35. > :06:44.brewing for us. Tomorrow's forecast is not looking
:06:45. > :06:52.too bad but let's look at the weather for Tuesday. The weather
:06:53. > :06:56.goodtime wet and wild on Wednesday. First thing tomorrow rain in the
:06:57. > :07:03.East but it soon clears and in Cumbria one two showers but in most
:07:04. > :07:10.parts sunny spells. Temperatures around the same, perhaps a touch
:07:11. > :07:14.lower than today. They will reach around seven Celsius, still with
:07:15. > :07:18.brisk southerly breezes. Another change in the weather overnight
:07:19. > :07:23.tomorrow until Wednesday, wet and windy weather moving in from the
:07:24. > :07:28.Atlantic, so strong winds and heavy rainfall on Wednesday across the
:07:29. > :07:30.region. This will clear to bright spells and just the odd shower on
:07:31. > :07:41.Thursday. Rain clearing tomorrow Good evening. As you have just heard
:07:42. > :07:45.on your local forecast there is more wind and rain to come. The story is
:07:46. > :07:46.dominated by two
