:00:00. > 3:59:59end of the week? No. Had Russia heading our way and wet and windy

:00:00. > :00:00.again. That is all from Hello, welcome to Look North. In the

:00:07. > :00:10.programme tonight... A man's charged with the killings of

:00:11. > :00:14.his father and grandmother in a house in North Tyneside.

:00:15. > :00:21.Warnings of 80mph winds and blizzard conditions. We're live from the West

:00:22. > :00:24.coast as the latest storm hits. Another victim of smoking ` Michelle

:00:25. > :00:34.knows she's going to die, but she hopes her example might save others.

:00:35. > :00:44.If you can stop, do it now. There are loads of things to try. Save

:00:45. > :00:46.your family going through what mine have to go through.

:00:47. > :00:49.And have North East scientists discovered the Holy Grail of

:00:50. > :00:51.cosmetics, a way to stop skin ageing?

:00:52. > :00:55.In sport, will it be a stormy night for both the Magpies and the Black

:00:56. > :00:58.Cats? Can Gus Poyet deliver a tale of the unexpected in the League Cup

:00:59. > :01:00.final dress rehearsal? And a massive win for Carlisle in

:01:01. > :01:18.their battle to beat the drop. In the last hour, a man has been

:01:19. > :01:21.charged with the murder of two people at a home in North Tyneside.

:01:22. > :01:25.It's believed he's related to them. Police were called out to the street

:01:26. > :01:34.last night after reports of a disturbance. Jonathan Swingler

:01:35. > :01:40.reports. A detached Georgian house in Benton, North Tyneside. The scene

:01:41. > :01:45.of a double killing. They have been named as Clara Patterson and Ray

:01:46. > :01:48.Patterson. Police were called here at 9:15pm last night after reports

:01:49. > :01:52.of a disturbance. A man was seen running in the road. The bodies were

:01:53. > :02:03.discovered in the house behind me. The woman was well`known to her

:02:04. > :02:08.neighbours. That field was available for the children to play football

:02:09. > :02:16.and the ball was which returned. Just a nice enough neighbour. Not

:02:17. > :02:21.obtrusive, just a nice woman to have about. 25`year`old Glenn Patterson

:02:22. > :02:27.has been charged with murder and remanded in custody. It is believed

:02:28. > :02:31.the two people who died were his grandmother and father. Results of

:02:32. > :02:36.postmortem examinations are connected tomorrow. `` are expected

:02:37. > :02:40.tomorrow. The forecasters have been issuing

:02:41. > :02:43.dire warnings all day. And the latest storm to hit the country is

:02:44. > :02:47.sweeping up the West coast of Cumbria now. With luck, we'll avoid

:02:48. > :02:50.the very worst, but that's not saying much. The Met Office says

:02:51. > :02:54.wind speeds could exceed 80mph, with blizzard conditions over high

:02:55. > :02:57.ground. We'll have the latest on road and rail conditions shortly.

:02:58. > :03:07.But first we're going to Alison Freeman in Whitehaven.

:03:08. > :03:10.We are in the sheltered calm of Whitehaven harbour, where it is safe

:03:11. > :03:14.enough for us to broadcast from. On exposed areas on the roads and

:03:15. > :03:20.particularly around the headland here, they have been experiencing

:03:21. > :03:26.some very different conditions. Gusts of up to 60 or 70 mph. The

:03:27. > :03:32.wind battered the coastline again here in West Cumbria. The gusts were

:03:33. > :03:36.just shy of 70 mph, buffeting people and anything exposed. The low tide

:03:37. > :03:43.meant that the ways were not threatening the sure this afternoon

:03:44. > :03:48.but a flood warning was issued for 10:30pm tonight. A red warning was

:03:49. > :03:51.issued in the south of the county, meaning there was concern about

:03:52. > :03:58.structural damage to building. `` two buildings. People want of gusts

:03:59. > :04:05.between 80 miles now and 100 mph. Any nonessential journeys, people

:04:06. > :04:09.should stay indoors and not use the roads. If you are going up one

:04:10. > :04:13.essential journeys, be prepared for when you go out, plan your journey

:04:14. > :04:19.and take more time. Slow down on the roads, give yourself more time to

:04:20. > :04:22.get where you want to go. The weather may not have made everyone

:04:23. > :04:29.stay inside but cautions have been taken. Electricity Northwest has

:04:30. > :04:32.been on stand`by in case of power failures and they have drafted in

:04:33. > :04:41.volunteers from the British Red Cross to keep and I on vulnerable

:04:42. > :04:46.customers as the winter strengthens. The gusts are 22 peak at around

:04:47. > :04:51.9:30pm this evening. People are being asked to stay at home and take

:04:52. > :04:53.care. Thank you. Well, that's the situation on the

:04:54. > :04:57.West Coast of Cumbria. But conditions have been deteriorating

:04:58. > :05:01.further inland as well. We can get the latest now from Mark McAlindon

:05:02. > :05:05.in our Carlisle newsroom. What is it like over there? In the

:05:06. > :05:08.last few minutes, dramatic development is on the West Coast

:05:09. > :05:13.Main Line. We had expected that to close between Carlisle and Preston

:05:14. > :05:16.for two hours between 7pm and 9pm. In the last few minutes, virgin has

:05:17. > :05:21.said that the line will be closed and no trains will be operating out

:05:22. > :05:27.of London Euston, which means the whole West Coast Main Line is closed

:05:28. > :05:32.because of the adverse conditions. There are clearly concerns in

:05:33. > :05:40.Cumbria. On the roads, the police are issuing advice about only

:05:41. > :05:47.driving if you have to. Engineers are on stand`by. The Northern power

:05:48. > :05:51.grid has been enticed to say is organised extra engineers and call

:05:52. > :05:56.centre staff to be available tonight. Gusts are respected to be

:05:57. > :06:01.up to 70 mast hour. How bad will it get? Another deep area of low

:06:02. > :06:08.pressure swelling in from the Atlantic, Cumbria bracing itself

:06:09. > :06:11.again. Let us take a look at the picture. This is the next five

:06:12. > :06:15.hours. Letters look at what the weather will do up to midnight

:06:16. > :06:19.tonight the wind will swelling from the south and west, driving in not

:06:20. > :06:25.just a brain but also snow and tonight you will not have to climb

:06:26. > :06:30.very high before that's no `` that snow could accumulate. I will have

:06:31. > :06:32.more in the forecast but it will look very wintry out there with

:06:33. > :06:45.strong winds. Thank you. A killer who stabbed his wife to

:06:46. > :06:49.death in the study of their home after she told him about an affair

:06:50. > :06:53.has been told he faces life in prison. Heather Arthur had been in a

:06:54. > :06:57.relationship with the saxophonist in the jazz band she sang with on

:06:58. > :07:01.Tyneside. When she told her husband, Mark, he stabbed her through the

:07:02. > :07:07.heart. This afternoon, a jury found Arthur guilty of murder. Our News

:07:08. > :07:12.Correspondent Peter Harris reports. Guilty of murder. Mark Arthur was

:07:13. > :07:16.the controlling husband. And when he found out his wife Heather was in a

:07:17. > :07:22.relationship with the sax player in a band she sang with, he killed her.

:07:23. > :07:26.We now know Heather had feared Arthur's reaction. In a series of

:07:27. > :07:32.texts to her lover, Paul Gowland, her concerns were laid bare. Two

:07:33. > :07:35.days before she died, she texted Mr Gowland that she was "shaking with

:07:36. > :07:41.fear" at telling him it was over but that she had "resolved to end it."

:07:42. > :07:45.Next day, she said she was "worried about what he might do." And on her

:07:46. > :07:50.final day alive, she wrote, "Will have to go through his fury and

:07:51. > :07:58.disappointment. I will stand firm." Her fears were tragically

:07:59. > :08:00.appropriate. In the study of their home, Heather Arthur told her

:08:01. > :08:06.husband she had been having an affair and she would be leaving him.

:08:07. > :08:11.At this point, you lost control and stabbed her through the heart. He

:08:12. > :08:15.then left the home and headed to their local GP surgery. Arriving

:08:16. > :08:18.here, still in his boxer shorts, our third burst in on a GP and told them

:08:19. > :08:25.he had hurt his wife would stop he was vague about the details, they

:08:26. > :08:28.phoned the police and they found her body back at the house. In jazz

:08:29. > :08:34.circles, where Heather had revealed her talent as a singer, there was

:08:35. > :08:40.shock. Outside of crying, what can you say? It is a shock for anybody.

:08:41. > :08:50.She spent 30 years of her life with this person and was with `` and was

:08:51. > :08:53.rewarded with being murdered. She was kind, lively, enthusiastic, very

:08:54. > :08:59.well liked by the members of the group. Everybody says that after

:09:00. > :09:02.someone has died. But in Heather 's case, it is true. She really was,

:09:03. > :09:06.she was lovely. Heather and Mark Arthur had moved here from the South

:09:07. > :09:12.of England. They ran an IT firm said to have been struggling. The house

:09:13. > :09:15.had been inherited. Mark Arthur had claimed he was

:09:16. > :09:21.guilty only of manslaughter on the grounds that he had lost control but

:09:22. > :09:24.the jury took just 90 minutes to convict him of murder. He will be

:09:25. > :09:27.sentenced tomorrow but the judge warned him there is only one

:09:28. > :09:36.tendency can pass and that is life in prison. `` there is only one

:09:37. > :09:39.sentence he can pass. Hartlepool Council says more than

:09:40. > :09:42.200 jobs will be secured, and ?1 million a year saved, through a

:09:43. > :09:45.partnership with an information technology company. It's signed a

:09:46. > :09:48.deal with Northgate Public Services to establish a new regional business

:09:49. > :09:51.centre in the town and look after the council's computer needs. The

:09:52. > :09:54.council says some 235 existing staff are planned to move to Hartlepool,

:09:55. > :09:58.mostly from Wynyard Business Centre and there's scope for expansion to

:09:59. > :10:01.300 staff. A Tyneside offshore engineering yard

:10:02. > :10:05.has won a second major order within the space of a few months, creating

:10:06. > :10:09.more than 100 new contract jobs and securing hundreds of existing

:10:10. > :10:12.positions. OGN Group, based at the Hadrian Yard in Wallsend, has been

:10:13. > :10:15.awarded the multi`million`pound contract by a leading international

:10:16. > :10:22.oil and gas operator for the construction of a new process module

:10:23. > :10:25.in the North Sea. A workforce of up to 500 will be employed for the

:10:26. > :10:31.contract, which is expected to last about 16 months.

:10:32. > :10:36.Nearly half a million people in the North East still smoke, despite all

:10:37. > :10:40.the health warnings. And according to the anti`smoking group Fresh,

:10:41. > :10:43.half of them will die prematurely. But if advertising bans, gruesome

:10:44. > :10:46.warnings on cigarette packets and other campaigns fail to turn people

:10:47. > :10:53.off, what will persuade smokers to stub it out for good? Well, perhaps

:10:54. > :10:56.it takes something like this. Sophie McDonnell has been to meet a woman

:10:57. > :11:03.who gave up smoking. But only after she'd been told that the habit has

:11:04. > :11:06.already condemned her to death. Michelle Barthram is 47. If she's

:11:07. > :11:11.lucky, she'll live another 18 months with her husband and daughter at

:11:12. > :11:15.their home in Birtley. Michelle was diagnosed with small cell cancer in

:11:16. > :11:28.her lungs just before Christmas. It's a terminal illness. I will

:11:29. > :11:44.never see grandchildren. It is going to be very hard. I will not see my

:11:45. > :11:48.puppy grow up. Friends, I will never see them again. I am lucky in one

:11:49. > :11:54.respect, I have been given time to say goodbye, get things in order. So

:11:55. > :11:57.I am thankful for that. Michelle used to smoke 20 cigarettes a day,

:11:58. > :12:01.but hasn't touched one since the day she was diagnosed. Her consultant at

:12:02. > :12:09.the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead says people don't realise

:12:10. > :12:15.how quickly cancer spreads. He sees the devastating effects everyday. In

:12:16. > :12:19.Gateshead, we see perhaps 260 new patients with lung cancer every

:12:20. > :12:23.year. We estimate, if there was no smoking and never had been, we would

:12:24. > :12:30.see maybe five or six cases of lung cancer every year. For a patient to

:12:31. > :12:36.receive a diagnosis of lung cancer is a blow and the only way we can

:12:37. > :12:40.get rid of that tragedy is to help people understand the dangers of

:12:41. > :12:44.smoking and to encourage and support them to stop smoking. 11 people die

:12:45. > :12:46.in the North East every day from a smoking`related illness. The

:12:47. > :12:50.anti`smoking organisation Fresh is urging the region's half a million

:12:51. > :12:57.smokers to quit and live longer. But Michelle has a personal message for

:12:58. > :13:03.smokers. Cancer can strike at any age. Any fitness. It does not matter

:13:04. > :13:09.what you do for a living, just be very careful. If you can stop, do it

:13:10. > :13:17.now. There are loads of things to try to stop and save your family

:13:18. > :13:21.going through what mine have got to go through.

:13:22. > :13:27.Well, if you smoke and that story has made you more determined to give

:13:28. > :13:39.up, you can find help and advice on quitting online.

:13:40. > :13:43.More goods went in and out of the Port of Tyne last year than in any

:13:44. > :13:46.other year since 1965. The Port handled more than eight million

:13:47. > :13:49.tonnes of cargo, a 22% increase on 2012, and a record number of

:13:50. > :13:52.passengers on cruise liners. The work meant 54 new jobs at the Port,

:13:53. > :13:56.including a dozen new apprenticeships.

:13:57. > :13:59.A collection of rare and collectable comics, which we featured in

:14:00. > :14:04.Monday's Look North, has been sold at auction in Newcastle for just

:14:05. > :14:06.under ?25,000. The 448 lots, which were from a Darlington collector,

:14:07. > :14:10.included Spider`Man from number one to number 234, X`Men from number one

:14:11. > :14:16.to number 160, plus Green Lantern number one. The highest bid was ?880

:14:17. > :14:28.for the first Viz Comic, which was printed in December 1979.

:14:29. > :14:31.It's something women and men have sought for centuries. And it

:14:32. > :14:35.supports an industry worth billions of pounds. The search for a magic

:14:36. > :14:38.pill or lotion that will stop skin ageing is the Holy Grail of the

:14:39. > :14:41.world of cosmetics. And that search might be over. Researchers at

:14:42. > :14:44.Newcastle University are working on a new product they believe may halt

:14:45. > :14:48.the process. They've discovered that an antioxidant which has never been

:14:49. > :14:53.linked with skin health gives 100% protection against damaging UVA

:14:54. > :15:02.radiation from the sun. Our health reporter, Sharon Barbour, has

:15:03. > :15:06.tonight's Look North report. Every year, millions of pounds is

:15:07. > :15:15.spent on looking younger for longer. But what works and what doesn't?

:15:16. > :15:19.Moisturise in the morning, in the afternoon, before you go to bed. I

:15:20. > :15:29.don't look after mine, it is just natural. Exfoliate twice a week.

:15:30. > :15:31.Drink lots of water. Botox! Across the globe, laboratories and

:15:32. > :15:35.pharmaceutical companies are testing products to slow down the ageing

:15:36. > :15:37.process. But has a North East team of scientists stumbled over

:15:38. > :15:44.something to excite the cosmetics industry? Researchers here in this

:15:45. > :15:51.Newcastle laboratory for dermatological science have been

:15:52. > :15:55.doing their own research and have made and exciting discovery. You

:15:56. > :16:00.have a light bulb moment and think what it. Sometimes the what if comes

:16:01. > :16:05.to nothing and you pick yourself up again. In this instance, it proved

:16:06. > :16:11.to be true. What they have discovered is a new antioxidant. It

:16:12. > :16:15.is called Tiron. It hasn't been tested on humans but it has on rats

:16:16. > :16:19.and, under the microscope, shows a remarkable ability to look after our

:16:20. > :16:25.skin. As we get older, our energy declines, our energy from our

:16:26. > :16:34.biological cell. These free radicals increase, these harmful molecules.

:16:35. > :16:41.Tiron and related chemicals help not only our skin that help our body and

:16:42. > :16:45.reduce the acceleration of that ageing process. As the body ages,

:16:46. > :16:48.its cell life deteriorates and ages, and some things can hasten the

:16:49. > :16:51.ageing and cell`damaging process. The worst offenders are smoking,

:16:52. > :16:54.drinking too much, poor diet and pollution, but worst of all for skin

:16:55. > :17:01.damage is burning under too much sunshine. But antioxidants can

:17:02. > :17:05.prevent that and, having tested those known to work, they believe

:17:06. > :17:13.Tiron is far more effective than any other. It gives 100% protection of

:17:14. > :17:22.the skin against sun and other damage. So you do not have a little

:17:23. > :17:28.pot of green with a little bit of Tiron that you have tried out? No,

:17:29. > :17:32.for one, it is not safe. You cannot do that sort of thing. It has not

:17:33. > :17:35.been tested for safety. Once they are convinced it's safe to use,

:17:36. > :17:44.Tiron could be available within a few years. I think I will order a

:17:45. > :17:57.gallon of that stuff! What about hair loss? There could be some doubt

:17:58. > :18:00.over the Sunderland game? I hope to get some governments and about in a

:18:01. > :18:02.few minutes but I will carry on regardless.

:18:03. > :18:05.Yes, both our Premier League clubs slipped a place without even playing

:18:06. > :18:09.last night. Newcastle can regain eighth spot with victory over Spurs.

:18:10. > :18:12.More on that in a moment. At the wrong end of the table, this late

:18:13. > :18:14.equaliser from Victor Anichebe for West Brom against title contenders

:18:15. > :18:17.Chelsea was responsible for Sunderland slipping back into the

:18:18. > :18:20.bottom three. And, given the home record of tonight's opponents

:18:21. > :18:23.Manchester City, there won't be too many thinking they can climb out

:18:24. > :18:26.again by 10pm. In truth, no`one really expected

:18:27. > :18:29.Sunderland to take any points away from the Etihad Stadium just under

:18:30. > :18:33.two years ago, when goals from Seb Larsson helped them to a 3`1 lead.

:18:34. > :18:37.Two late goals from the home side made it 3`3 but the Black Cats were

:18:38. > :18:40.still the only team to avoid a league defeat there in Man City's

:18:41. > :18:43.title`winning season. After Sunderland's ten men slipped up at

:18:44. > :18:46.home to Hull, though, there's now more pressure to pick up unexpected

:18:47. > :18:52.away points at City, Arsenal and Liverpool, the next three scheduled

:18:53. > :19:00.Premier League matches. You never know how the points you need. We

:19:01. > :19:07.need to get points on the table and then change our home form. While the

:19:08. > :19:09.head coach is looking for a great performance tonight, he also

:19:10. > :19:12.recognises the match's potential significance as a dress rehearsal

:19:13. > :19:22.for next month's League Cup final at Wembley. It will be important for us

:19:23. > :19:29.to see again whether we can compete and be a team that is difficult to

:19:30. > :19:32.play against. If we do well, I am sure we will go into the final with

:19:33. > :19:40.a different attitude because I'm convinced that the mental side is

:19:41. > :19:43.the most important part. Four home wins in a row over City will count

:19:44. > :19:46.for nothing unless the defence holds firm. January signing Santiago

:19:47. > :19:48.Vergini could deputise for the suspended Wes Brown.

:19:49. > :19:52.The goal that means Newcastle also slipped a place last night. Despite

:19:53. > :19:55.the best efforts of former United keeper Steve Harper, Southampton

:19:56. > :19:57.were the 1`0 winners at Hull to leapfrog Newcastle in the Premier

:19:58. > :20:01.League. The Magpies will reclaim eighth with a win tonight, of

:20:02. > :20:04.course, and go into the match looking to end a run of four

:20:05. > :20:13.consecutive home defeats, but shorn of key players. I think our home

:20:14. > :20:16.record has dipped of late. That has coincided with losing a lot of goals

:20:17. > :20:26.out of the team. We have lost 24 goals, forget about assists. We need

:20:27. > :20:31.is their cup `` we need to step up to the plate. We need to score

:20:32. > :20:37.goals. This evening's match with fourth placed Spurs is Alan Pardew's

:20:38. > :20:43.150th in charge. He has done a good job. There is an expectant crowd out

:20:44. > :20:46.there. They demand results. It has not been going for them lately but

:20:47. > :20:49.we do not want this to be the game where they can turn it around.

:20:50. > :20:52.Victory would give Newcastle their first league double of the season. A

:20:53. > :20:55.Loic Remy goal and some brilliant goalkeeping gave United a 1`0 win in

:20:56. > :20:59.the capital last November. Spurs boosted their chances of finishing

:21:00. > :21:02.in a Champions League spot with a 1`0 win against Everton on Sunday.

:21:03. > :21:06.The Londoners have not won at St James' Park in the league for ten

:21:07. > :21:19.years and Newcastle know they will be expected to do their duty by

:21:20. > :21:22.continuing that run. As I feared, Manchester city versus Sunderland

:21:23. > :21:26.has been postponed for public safety reasons. That is because of the bad

:21:27. > :21:29.storms. The West has been hit worse than the East at the moment.

:21:30. > :21:32.Carlisle United have signed former Rangers striker Nacho Novo on a

:21:33. > :21:34.short`term contract, subject to clearance. United manager Graham

:21:35. > :21:37.Kavanagh revealed terms had been agreed with the 34`year`old Spaniard

:21:38. > :21:40.following the Cumbrians' 1`0 win over Bradford, which eased their

:21:41. > :21:43.relegation fears. The only goal came after the Yorkshire side, now

:21:44. > :21:47.without a win in 13 league games, made a hash of clearing a corner and

:21:48. > :21:50.Lee Miller scored with a skillful overhead kick. Carlisle are now

:21:51. > :21:52.three points above the relegation zone.

:21:53. > :21:55.The Durham County Cricket captain Paul Collingwood has joined the

:21:56. > :21:58.England coaching staff for the West Indies tour and World Twenty20 in

:21:59. > :22:01.Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Yorkshire have signed one of the world's best

:22:02. > :22:05.one`day batsmen, the Australian international Aaron Finch. He holds

:22:06. > :22:13.the world record for the highest ever Twenty20 international innings.

:22:14. > :22:17.The Formula One season opens in Australia next month, with Melbourne

:22:18. > :22:20.the first race on the 2014 calendar. With new regulations in place, it's

:22:21. > :22:24.been a busy winter for those whose job it is to get the cars out on the

:22:25. > :22:28.track. But the President of the Marussia team also took the chance

:22:29. > :22:29.to spend some quality time at home in his native Northumberland, as

:22:30. > :22:47.Jeff Brown found out. Yes, it is a glamorous life, even if

:22:48. > :22:52.the testing session in Southern Spain wasn't geared up for

:22:53. > :22:55.sunbathing. So, back home in Corbridge, a chance for Graeme

:22:56. > :23:06.Lowdon to relax and reflect on a remarkable journey. Me and my wife,

:23:07. > :23:14.we set up a racing team in 1996 will stop it seems about 5000 years ago

:23:15. > :23:18.now and that was in need junior formula `` that was in the junior

:23:19. > :23:21.formula. That was so difficult and we got some great support from some

:23:22. > :23:28.companies in the North East which we will never forget that was

:23:29. > :23:36.brilliant. We progressed through the formulas. We raised with several

:23:37. > :23:41.drivers that are now in Formula 1. We saw there was an opportunity to

:23:42. > :23:46.take the team into Formula 1, which is a massive step. It is like taking

:23:47. > :23:53.a non`league team into the champions league and doing it overnight. We

:23:54. > :23:56.saw the opportunity and we got an entry and then the hard work

:23:57. > :23:59.started. Originally with the backing of Richard Branson under the Virgin

:24:00. > :24:02.banner, three years ago the team attracted investment from Russia. As

:24:03. > :24:05.Marussia, drivers Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi took them to tenth

:24:06. > :24:09.place in the Constructors' Championship last year. They're

:24:10. > :24:17.still looking for their first race point, but the harsh world of F1

:24:18. > :24:20.does have its compensations. That is the great thing about Formula 1. We

:24:21. > :24:28.go to all of the exotic places, Monaco and Singapore and there is a

:24:29. > :24:32.lot of show business around Formula 1. It is very hard work. If I had to

:24:33. > :24:36.sum it up in one word, it would be relentless because it is a

:24:37. > :24:40.relentless issued, highly competitive. If you stand still for

:24:41. > :24:48.one minute, you will be going backwards. It will be better, the

:24:49. > :24:53.weather in Monaco than in Manchester. It is gradually getting

:24:54. > :24:59.over to the East now as well. In Newcastle, Wingrove Road was

:25:00. > :25:04.closed for a time of day Jimmy Foale from a roof. The road has just

:25:05. > :25:13.reopened. It looks as though winds will strengthen. That is look at the

:25:14. > :25:25.wind speed is earlier. In the Pennines, the gusts topped out at 84

:25:26. > :25:29.mph. The winds will strengthen, breaching a peak at around 9pm or

:25:30. > :25:36.10pm tonight. There are ample warnings in place tonight but there

:25:37. > :25:39.is also a yellow warning in force for snow as well. That is through

:25:40. > :25:45.this evening and for the early hours of tomorrow as well. That falls on

:25:46. > :25:49.ground above 150 metres, around 450 feet. You don't have to go very high

:25:50. > :26:01.before you can see accumulations of between one centimetre and three

:26:02. > :26:07.centimetres. Around 900 `1000 the, they could be several inches.

:26:08. > :26:14.Temperatures fall to just above freezing, still with the wind

:26:15. > :26:19.buffeting the region, up to 30 mph all night tonight and through the

:26:20. > :26:23.morning rush`hour tomorrow. Through the day tomorrow, things will is for

:26:24. > :26:26.a time. A few wintry showers around but bright spells as well,

:26:27. > :26:32.especially in the north`east through the early part of the day. More

:26:33. > :26:36.wintry weather sets in from the West, a wintry mix. Once again,

:26:37. > :26:42.sleet and snow over the hills was the rain and sleet at lower levels.

:26:43. > :26:46.It will feel colder would be south`westerly winds. They will

:26:47. > :26:55.still drive across the region. It is grey and miserable with plenty more

:26:56. > :27:00.snow over the hills. Let us take a look at the big picture. Things

:27:01. > :27:06.possibly a little, later tomorrow and early on Friday morning but then

:27:07. > :27:10.more stormy weather, another low pressure system swirls in from the

:27:11. > :27:15.Atlantic. Look how tightly packed the isobars are, strong winds more

:27:16. > :27:18.heavy rainfall and more snow potentially on the leading edge of

:27:19. > :27:23.that front on Friday and Saturday. Let us look at what that will mean

:27:24. > :27:27.in terms of detail. In Cumbria, if you wet days, possibly dry on Friday

:27:28. > :27:31.and then very similar in the north`east as well. More wet and

:27:32. > :27:41.wild weather to come. I suppose winter had to come at some

:27:42. > :27:46.time. We'll be back with the latest news at 10pm. Take care. Good night.
