:00:00. > :00:00.on the BBC News Channel. We are back on BBC One, time for the

:00:07. > :00:12.Good afternoon and welcome to Look North.

:00:13. > :00:15.2,000 demonstrators have marched past the building where the Liberal

:00:16. > :00:21.Democrat Spring Conference hs being held in York this morning. The

:00:22. > :00:34.protest against public spending cuts was organised by the TUC.

:00:35. > :00:38.It has been a good`humoured event ` not just trade unionists put

:00:39. > :00:42.students, anti`cuts campaigners and many who came in on buses from all

:00:43. > :00:47.over the North. But the message was a serious one, aimed squarely at the

:00:48. > :00:51.Lib Dems. Only yesterday, Nhck Clegg said that as far as he was

:00:52. > :00:55.concerned, his austerity programme, along with the government, had been

:00:56. > :01:00.vindicated. The people here today are suggesting that maybe they don't

:01:01. > :01:05.agree. The volume and the vdnom was turned up as the march neardd the

:01:06. > :01:12.York Barbican Centre, the vdnue for this weekend's Lib Dem spring

:01:13. > :01:16.conference. We want to make them aware and rally our troops `s well,

:01:17. > :01:20.to continue the fight against austerity. We want to make sure the

:01:21. > :01:23.Lib Dems know it is hurting people in Yorkshire, particularly those in

:01:24. > :01:28.public services and the most vulnerable in society. The

:01:29. > :01:32.protesters were clearly being heard inside. Of course there are people

:01:33. > :01:38.who are individual complaints about particular decisions we're having to

:01:39. > :01:41.take but I think we are getting borrowing down and getting the

:01:42. > :01:45.economy back in gear and it is absolutely right. The march passed

:01:46. > :01:48.on and the Lib Dem conference continues until tomorrow.

:01:49. > :01:52.A protest's been held outside the gates of Sellafield over pl`ns to

:01:53. > :02:01.kill a group of deer which became trapped between two securitx fences.

:02:02. > :02:04.Campaigners fighting to savd the animals but the nuclear plant says

:02:05. > :02:08.it has consulted with wildlhfe experts on how best to deal with

:02:09. > :02:11.them and says its decision to carry out a cull is the last resort.

:02:12. > :02:14.A former County Durham pit community has been commemorating the 30th

:02:15. > :02:17.anniversary of the miners' strike. In Easington, more than 1,800 miners

:02:18. > :02:21.fought for the future of thdir colliery and became the last pit in

:02:22. > :02:24.the Durham coalfield to close. Today a day of special activities,

:02:25. > :02:26.supported by Beamish museum, including performances by local

:02:27. > :02:36.groups and an exhibition of artefacts and memories of the time.

:02:37. > :02:41.It just makes me realise wh`t an important group of people wd were

:02:42. > :02:45.and still are. Mining is in the blood ` you can't take it ott.

:02:46. > :02:48.Look away now if you don't want to know the latest football scores

:02:49. > :03:10.Some of our teams are in action this afternoon.

:03:11. > :03:19.Now let's find out what the rest of the weekend has in store for us

:03:20. > :03:23.weather`wise. Here's Kay Crdwdson. As we head through the rest of the

:03:24. > :03:27.day, it should be mostly drx. Still quite breezy. Clear skies in the

:03:28. > :03:32.North East, spilling into the West will be some cloud, and that will

:03:33. > :03:34.give us some light rain and drizzle. It'll stay quite mild with

:03:35. > :03:40.temperatures down to about seven or eight. Quite breezy moderatd

:03:41. > :03:44.southerly breeze. Tomorrow hs not looking too bad in the North East,

:03:45. > :03:49.with the best of the bright and sunny spells giving 13 degrdes. But

:03:50. > :03:50.cloudy across Cumbria and there will be a few outbreaks of light rain and

:03:51. > :03:58.drizzle. That's it from us today. Look North

:03:59. > :04:08.is back tomorrow evening at 6:2 pm. Goodbye.

:04:09. > :04:17.Most of us have enjoyed a fine and dry start to the weekend. But all of

:04:18. > :04:22.us had the sunshine and a range of cloud conditions across the UK.

:04:23. > :04:25.There was a lot of cloud across Northern Ireland and Scotland to

:04:26. > :04:29.start the day. Some of it has remained through parts of the

:04:30. > :04:37.Midlands and northern England, so just hazy sunshine here.

:04:38. > :04:45.Temperatures in Glasgow are normal for the time of year. The winds are

:04:46. > :04:57.very just the for the Six Nations match. -- they are very dusty. Some

:04:58. > :05:00.patchy drizzle to the west of Wales. For the rest of England and Wales,

:05:01. > :05:05.mainly clear skies, but a patchy fog towards the south-west later

:05:06. > :05:10.overnight. Temperatures hold up above frost level in the breeze but

:05:11. > :05:12.it will still feel fairly chilly. Tomorrow, the cloud stays with us in

:05:13. > :05:13.Scotland and Northern
