:00:07. > :00:08.In the headlines tonight: Mhssing ` sexual assault and

:00:09. > :00:11.In the headlines tonight: Mhssing ` the deputy head of Durham School has

:00:12. > :00:15.disappeared. His car has bedn found at a clifftop car park.

:00:16. > :00:18.It's there in black and white. But they're not laughing on Wearside at

:00:19. > :00:27.the cartoon that suggests Stnderland folk are light fingered.

:00:28. > :00:31.But on Teesside, they're celebrating a gold medal. Richard Kilty is the

:00:32. > :00:37.new World Indoor Champion over 0m. And I lost my heart to a st`rship

:00:38. > :00:39.trooper. Not me personally. The region's first comic convention

:00:40. > :00:42.draws crowds of fantasy fans. In tonight's Team Talk ` a

:00:43. > :00:45.Sunderland striker ends Middlesbrough's goal drought.

:00:46. > :00:49.While there'll be no second trip to Wembley as the Black Cats f`il to

:00:50. > :00:58.find the net and head out of the FA Cup.

:00:59. > :01:03.The deputy head of one of the region's most prestigious private

:01:04. > :01:07.schools has gone missing ` `nd his car has been found at a clifftop car

:01:08. > :01:11.park on the coast. Mark Bushnell, who's 50, was last seen at 01:3

:01:12. > :01:15.yesterday morning. His car was found at four o'clock this morning at a

:01:16. > :01:18.picnic site near Peterlee, `t Blackhall Rocks in East Durham.

:01:19. > :01:22.Durham Police say they're "very concerned" for his welfare. And the

:01:23. > :01:26.headmaster of Durham School said the whole school community has been

:01:27. > :01:29.affected by his disappearance. Stephanie Cleasby is live at

:01:30. > :01:41.Blackhall Rocks and joins md now. What more can you tell us, Steph?

:01:42. > :01:44.Light falling quickly at Bl`ckhall Rocks. Police will soon be calling

:01:45. > :01:49.off their search tonight for Mark Bushnell, the deputy head of Durham

:01:50. > :01:53.School, who has been missing since 1130 yesterday morning. The married

:01:54. > :01:59.father of three was last sedn on Sunday morning. That weekend he had

:02:00. > :02:03.been in London. He went to ` school rugby event and visited famhly. That

:02:04. > :02:07.was on Saturday. Yesterday, the police said the washing machine

:02:08. > :02:12.broke, so he headed out to ` launderette. There was the last his

:02:13. > :02:19.family saw of him. His car was found here at this picnic site at

:02:20. > :02:21.Blackhall Rocks at about 4al, with no clue inside as to his

:02:22. > :02:28.whereabouts. There were no notes inside. This is about 30 Minutes

:02:29. > :02:34.Drive away from his home in Durham city, but he does know the place. He

:02:35. > :02:39.has been here before. There has been no significant event to cause his

:02:40. > :02:43.disappearance. Here is the chief inspector. Is completely out of

:02:44. > :02:49.character, and both his famhly and colleagues at Durham School are

:02:50. > :02:53.gravely concerned for his wdlfare, and are also asking his famhly and

:02:54. > :03:01.colleagues that if he makes contact with them, just to reassure him he

:03:02. > :03:05.is well. The search has widdned out? Yes. A large`scale search is

:03:06. > :03:09.underway involving mountain rescue, Coast Guard, and British police

:03:10. > :03:14.because of the row airlines which run throughout this area, it is a

:03:15. > :03:19.difficult area to search because of a long stretch of coastal cliffs,

:03:20. > :03:25.and now darkness has fallen here. Police say the search will finish at

:03:26. > :03:28.around this time, at around 6:3 pm, because it is too dangerous for them

:03:29. > :03:33.to surge along coastal cliffs once darkness has fallen. The se`rch will

:03:34. > :03:40.resume at first light tomorrow. Police also say that Mr Bush and all

:03:41. > :03:45.hasn't been answering his mobile phone. They are also checking CCTV

:03:46. > :03:50.and say they think he was wdaring a pink and white striped shirt and

:03:51. > :03:52.brown jeans when he was last seen. Colleagues say this disappe`rance is

:03:53. > :03:58.completely out of character. The headmaster of Durham School is

:03:59. > :04:01.highly respected, NAR very concerned. They just wanted to

:04:02. > :04:07.contact his family as a matter of urgency.

:04:08. > :04:09.The editor of The Journal in Newcastle has unreservedly

:04:10. > :04:12.apologised to the people of Sunderland after a cartoon hn his

:04:13. > :04:15.paper suggested that Wearsiders were thieves. It was Sunderland's exit

:04:16. > :04:19.from the FA Cup yesterday that prompted the cartoon, with ` comic

:04:20. > :04:21.jibe that Sunderland folk could go back to acquiring silverward in

:04:22. > :04:28.their "customary manner" ` which seems to imply they're crooks. Peter

:04:29. > :04:32.Harris reports. Sunderland with trophy. Thex will be

:04:33. > :04:33.known this year. And the general cartoonist was not slow to pointed

:04:34. > :04:43.out. Surely not owning them thieves? It

:04:44. > :04:49.is neither funny or clever. Surely not owning them thieves? It

:04:50. > :04:53.is neither The only way it can be interpreted is that we are thieves,

:04:54. > :05:00.which is a stereotype I havd never heard from Newcastle fans. This one

:05:01. > :05:05.is entirely new. A bit of cttting humour is probably inevitable given

:05:06. > :05:08.it is now 41 years since either Newcastle or Sunderland won a major

:05:09. > :05:13.trophy. The question is whether there is a line between banter or

:05:14. > :05:18.offensive Witham in truth, hf you were offended in Sunderland today,

:05:19. > :05:27.but they hit back nonetheless. They've got a bit of cheek, but

:05:28. > :05:33.they? Why? We've done our bdst. They have done their best. What lore can

:05:34. > :05:41.they do? At the end of the day, there are losers and winners.

:05:42. > :05:51.Wearsiders thieves? That is what it says. I think it is. Is it funny or

:05:52. > :05:58.offensive? I find it funny `nd offensive.

:05:59. > :06:01.Tonight, the editor of The Journal, Brian Aitken, told Look North: I

:06:02. > :06:04.apologise unreservedly to the people of Sunderland and the supporters of

:06:05. > :06:07.Sunderland Football Club. The daily cartoon does not follow editorial

:06:08. > :06:10.policy. I's inclusion in thd paper was clearly misjudged, and we regret

:06:11. > :06:13.the decision to publish it. The Journal has a long and proud

:06:14. > :06:17.reputation of being a champhon for the North East region, and there is

:06:18. > :06:19.no way we would intentionally denigrate any of the people who live

:06:20. > :06:28.here." A woman's appeared before

:06:29. > :06:32.magistrates, charged with mtrdering a man in Newcastle. Jamie Bdlshaw,

:06:33. > :06:36.who was 36 and lived in St George's Terrace in Lemington, was found with

:06:37. > :06:40.serious injuries on Saturdax night. He died later in hospital. Lisa

:06:41. > :06:45.Claire Palmer, of the same `ddress, was remanded in custody to `ppear at

:06:46. > :06:48.Crown Court on Wednesday. The former Chair of Cleveland's

:06:49. > :06:51.Police Authority says the force s assertion that he claimed more than

:06:52. > :06:56.?120,000 in expenses, over five years, is "totally misleading". Dave

:06:57. > :06:59.McLuckie's reaction follows further public revelations from the

:07:00. > :07:04.Operation Sacristy probe into misconduct at Cleveland Polhce. Mr

:07:05. > :07:08.McLuckie says the vast majority of the sums he claimed were allowances,

:07:09. > :07:11.which his position entitled him to. He resigned, and was later jailed

:07:12. > :07:15.for perverting the course of justice after persuading a friend to accept

:07:16. > :07:18.speeding points on his behalf. But he's accused the leaders of

:07:19. > :07:23.Operation Sacristy of "issuhng a catalogue of smears and inntendo"

:07:24. > :07:26.against him. Members of a youth snooker `cademy

:07:27. > :07:30.have been left distraught after their club was burned down. The

:07:31. > :07:33.blaze in Hartlepool happened early yesterday morning, leaving hundreds

:07:34. > :07:45.of young players without a venue as it's the only club for under`18s in

:07:46. > :07:50.the area. Ian Reeve reports. The interior of Hartlepool's vast

:07:51. > :07:55.snooker hall. Only the halls remain after a fire on Sunday mornhng. The

:07:56. > :08:00.building is physically guttdd. Member of the youth Snooker Academy

:08:01. > :08:05.who play here, metaphorically so. It is not just about snooker. These

:08:06. > :08:12.kids are sometimes hear fivd nights a week. It is not just snooker, but

:08:13. > :08:19.the life side of it. We're keeping the kids off the street and getting

:08:20. > :08:23.them to grow up near adults. Hundreds of young people pl`y here,

:08:24. > :08:28.competing to a high level, `ll left with nowhere to go as most clubs in

:08:29. > :08:38.force and 18 or over role. Not much good for Benjamin. We used to put

:08:39. > :08:46.six balls in the pocket. I tsed to put them in. How good are you?

:08:47. > :08:52.Really good. Is very sad. It affects a lot of people in the region and

:08:53. > :08:56.town. We travel to come herd for Benjamin. There are a lot of

:08:57. > :09:01.youngsters who come here wedk in and week out. It is very busy. Ht will

:09:02. > :09:06.affect a lot of youngsters. The fire brigade says the building is

:09:07. > :09:20.structurally unsound, some won't be rebuilt. It is now investig`ting the

:09:21. > :09:22.cause of Sunday morning's fhre. Another sporting success story.

:09:23. > :09:25.18 months ago, Richard Kiltx considered quitting athletics after

:09:26. > :09:27.being overlooked for London 201 . But on Saturday night, in an

:09:28. > :09:30.extraordinary turnaround, the 24`year`old from Stockton w`s

:09:31. > :09:33.celebrating with a Union Fl`g draped around his shoulders after producing

:09:34. > :09:37.the performance of his life to win the World Indoor 60m title. And the

:09:38. > :09:39."Teesside Tornado" was only at the World Championships after another

:09:40. > :09:43.runner dropped out, as Andrdw Hartley reports.

:09:44. > :09:50.From also`ran to World Champion in 6.49 seconds. Kilty flew out of his

:09:51. > :09:54.blocks and led all the way to the finish line. If he was stunned at

:09:55. > :10:00.the magnitude of his achievdment, he wasn't lost for words. A lot of

:10:01. > :10:03.people doubted me. Everybodx counted me out of the Championships. Nobody

:10:04. > :10:07.mentioned me in the previews. It was all about Dwain Chambers. I proved

:10:08. > :10:11.everyone wrong, and I'm the world champion. It's the most rem`rkable

:10:12. > :10:14.turnaround for a lad who grdw up on a tough estate in Stockton. The

:10:15. > :10:19.young Kilty could so easily have taken the wrong track. But sport was

:10:20. > :10:26.his escape. Sometimes you would be trying so hard, you think, "Why am I

:10:27. > :10:29.doing this?" Kilty has also had to battle with doubts. Snubbed by Team

:10:30. > :10:32.GB for London 2012, despite having the qualifying standard for the 200

:10:33. > :10:38.metres, he seriously considdred walking away from the sport. He was

:10:39. > :10:42.axed from Lottery funding. He didn't even have a coach until a fdw months

:10:43. > :10:47.ago. Forced to train away from the rest of Team GB, on the track at

:10:48. > :10:52.Gateshead or this gym in Stockton. The man, who despite the scdptics,

:10:53. > :10:58.never stopped believing. He has the potential to win Olympic medals

:10:59. > :11:02.I've had my setbacks and injuries. I've had my ups and downs, `nd I

:11:03. > :11:05.think it's time for me to break through and hopefully becomd a

:11:06. > :11:10.household name and sporting icon, and show everyone I can succeed

:11:11. > :11:15.Last November, Kilty admittdd a charge of criminal damage to an

:11:16. > :11:19.estate agent's window. It w`s a mistake he quickly put behind him,

:11:20. > :11:22.and now the dream is to run the 100 metres outdoors in under ten seconds

:11:23. > :11:34.this summer. Few would bet `gainst the Teesside Tornado now.

:11:35. > :11:37.Well done, Richard. You're watching Look North. Still to

:11:38. > :11:40.come ` all the talking points from the weekend's football.

:11:41. > :11:46.And some talking points ` in French ` from these footballers to

:11:47. > :11:50.schoolchildren in Newcastle. In a few talking points in the wdather as

:11:51. > :11:51.we get the first prolonged dry spell in ages. I will have the full

:11:52. > :11:58.forecast later. Now, for anyone who receives an

:11:59. > :12:01.honour from the Queen, a trhp to Buckingham Palace is normally on the

:12:02. > :12:05.cards. But for Jean Thorpe ` from Malton in North Yorkshire ` the

:12:06. > :12:08.Palace has been forced to m`ke different arrangements. Jean, who

:12:09. > :12:11.received an MBE in the New Xear s Honours, rescues hundreds of wild

:12:12. > :12:13.animals every year, and told Her Majesty she was too busy to leave

:12:14. > :12:20.them. Phil Connell reports. On this suburban street in Lalton,

:12:21. > :12:24.it looks like any ordinary house. But venture through the gatd, and

:12:25. > :12:27.life here is not quite what you would expect. For 30 years, Jean

:12:28. > :12:31.Thorpe's home and garden has been the voluntary base of a busx animal

:12:32. > :12:34.rescue centre ` a haven for all kinds of injured wildlife ` with

:12:35. > :12:43.around 4000 animals treated here every year. Even this dog w`s a

:12:44. > :12:48.rescue dog. She came home whth me. I just love animals. I've been around

:12:49. > :12:53.them all the time. I'm very lucky to do what I do. To recognise her years

:12:54. > :12:56.of work, Jean has now received the MBE, presented by Lord Crathrone,

:12:57. > :13:02.the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire. For Jean, though, there

:13:03. > :13:06.was no trip to Buckingham P`lace. Her rescued animals, she saxs, just

:13:07. > :13:10.woundn't understand. They don't know, do they, that I'm getting an

:13:11. > :13:17.award today? They don't know when it's Christmas Day. I get animals on

:13:18. > :13:21.Christmas Day sometimes. So it has to fit in. It's like owning a dog,

:13:22. > :13:24.isn't it? You can't just le`ve a dog for a night, can you, withott

:13:25. > :13:28.arrangements? She's got dozdns of animals. It is jolly diffictlt to

:13:29. > :13:32.get away at all. Following the presentation, Jean was back home and

:13:33. > :13:43.back on call. The animals she cares for unimpressed, it seems, with

:13:44. > :13:46.royal recognition. They've played a key role for

:13:47. > :13:50.Newcastle United this season, but today, two of the team's st`r

:13:51. > :13:52.players were back at school ` helping pupils with their French

:13:53. > :13:55.lessons. The Magpies' French defenders Mapou Yanga`Mbiwa and

:13:56. > :13:57.Mathieu Debuchy were special guests at Newscastle's School For Boys `

:13:58. > :14:07.inspiring students about all things French. I have been practishng this

:14:08. > :14:09.all day. Le journalist est Phil Connell.

:14:10. > :14:13.APPLAUSE. For the students at Newcastle's

:14:14. > :14:15.School for Boys, it was a French lesson with extra va`va`vool.

:14:16. > :14:19.United's two star defenders have been at St James's Park since the

:14:20. > :14:22.beginning of last year. Tod`y, though, the two Frenchmen h`d a

:14:23. > :14:27.break from training to help pupils improve their French.

:14:28. > :14:31.SPEAKS FRENCH. A rare glimpse for pupils hdre into

:14:32. > :14:36.the life of a Premier Leagud footballer. He's got a big house

:14:37. > :14:40.because he's got three children I think it is very important to come

:14:41. > :14:47.here to see the children, to help them. It brings together thd passion

:14:48. > :14:50.that many of our boys have for sport and football and Newcastle Tnited

:14:51. > :14:54.and allows them to use that language in a way to meet some of thdir

:14:55. > :15:01.heroes. SPEAKS FRENCH.

:15:02. > :15:05.Have you enjoyed it? Yes. It is good. Perfect. Since arriving in

:15:06. > :15:10.Newcastle, the two Frenchmen have proved popular signings with the

:15:11. > :15:13.fans at St James's Park. Here in the classroom, they have also brought a

:15:14. > :15:16.certain "je ne sais quoi", puizzed in French as to what cars they

:15:17. > :15:22.drive, their favourite Newc`stle restaurant, and what they m`ke of

:15:23. > :15:26.the Geordie accent. The question in French is...

:15:27. > :15:29.SPEAKS FRENCH. Which in French, is "Do you like the

:15:30. > :15:34.Geordie accent?", which got a giggle out of it. It was pretty cool

:15:35. > :15:37.because the French classrool is not the favourite classroom. It is

:15:38. > :15:41.pretty dull sometimes. Not hn our school, anyway. Not today, though?

:15:42. > :15:45.Not today, definitely. That lightened it up. For the sttdents

:15:46. > :15:53.here, it was a French lesson to remember, many going home tonight

:15:54. > :15:57.with a new favourite subject. Staying with football ` onlx now,

:15:58. > :16:03.you'll be pleased to know, hn English ` it's time for Teal Talk.

:16:04. > :16:07.Sunderland are now left to concentrate on Premier Leagte

:16:08. > :16:12.survival after crashing out miserably to Hull City in the FA Cup

:16:13. > :16:15.quarterfinals. But if you ptt out a side like that, you're asking for

:16:16. > :16:19.trouble. Yes, that's now three wins over his old club this season for

:16:20. > :16:22.ex`Black Cats boss Steve Brtce. He can now look forward to a vdry

:16:23. > :16:27.winnable Wembley semifinal `gainst Nigel Clough's Sheffield Unhted

:16:28. > :16:29.Much of that feel`good factor from the League Cup final seven days

:16:30. > :16:35.earlier evaporated in East Yorkshire. Six changes, thrde down

:16:36. > :16:38.to injury, we're told. But should Poyet have been bolder, or was next

:16:39. > :16:42.weekend's League game against Crystal Palace uppermost in his

:16:43. > :16:46.mind? This excellent move w`s a rare highlight, although the finhsh

:16:47. > :16:49.summed up a limp team displ`y. A first half booking for Lee

:16:50. > :16:51.Cattermole didn't help, of course. Ex`Sunderland midfielder David

:16:52. > :16:54.Meyler, involved in that infamous spat with Alan Pardew the wdekend

:16:55. > :16:58.before, was again a central figure. But the visitors also rode their

:16:59. > :17:00.luck. A harsh penalty awarddd against Larsson before reserve

:17:01. > :17:09.keeper Ustari performed Mannone`style heroics. Imprdssive.

:17:10. > :17:12.Just a shame Poyet's man cotldn t step up to the plate in the second

:17:13. > :17:15.half. Curtis Davies rose higher than John O'Shea to finally put Hull in

:17:16. > :17:19.command. And then Cattermold's afternoon got worse. Bit of a gift

:17:20. > :17:23.for Meyler, but he still had a lot to do, and he did it well. Hncluding

:17:24. > :17:27.a reminder to Alan Pardew that he faces an FA personal hearing

:17:28. > :17:29.tomorrow. Yes, and just to rub salt into the wounds, Cattermole's

:17:30. > :17:32.inexplicable back pass giftdd Matty Fryatt a third. May be a bit

:17:33. > :17:36.flattering, but the Sunderl`nd fans were given nothing to get excited

:17:37. > :17:43.about ` quite simply a golddn chance not taken.

:17:44. > :17:46.Disappointed. It was rubbish. Three goals in ten minutes. They

:17:47. > :17:50.collapsed, didn't they? To put it mildly, yeah. It's not the first

:17:51. > :17:53.time this season, and probably won't be the last. We are disappohnted in

:17:54. > :17:58.the team selection. He's trdated the whole Cup with a bit of contempt. We

:17:59. > :18:02.have a lot better team than that, and we didn't play football at all,

:18:03. > :18:06.I think. They are going to `sk me this week which is more important `

:18:07. > :18:11.Wembley or the Premier Leagte. That's it. From now on, points.

:18:12. > :18:21.Somehow. It doesn't matter the shape or the team, we're going to stay up.

:18:22. > :18:24.It's ironic that on a day Stnderland struggled to find goals, thdir

:18:25. > :18:28.striker Danny Graham ` who's on loan at Middlesbrough ` found thd net

:18:29. > :18:31.TWICE. Yes, pleased for him as he's had a torrid time ` just ond goal in

:18:32. > :18:35.14 months before Saturday's game against Mick McCarthy's Ipswich A

:18:36. > :18:39.tap in from close range gavd Boro THEIR first goal in more th`n 1

:18:40. > :18:47.hours. You can see how much it means to him and the fans. It has been

:18:48. > :18:51.some time, hasn't it? First game for new assistant, first team coach and

:18:52. > :18:53.Boro legend Craig Hignett, `fter his sudden departure from Hartldpool
