:00:00. > :00:20.Good evening. There are reports to night of the disturbance inside a

:00:21. > :00:23.north`east prison. An inciddnt thought to be ongoing is sahd to

:00:24. > :00:30.involve category C or low`ldvel escape risk inmates of block four of

:00:31. > :00:32.HMP Northumberland. Prison Officers' Association representative Lichael

:00:33. > :00:36.Rolf says more than 50 inmates have taken over the blocking what is

:00:37. > :00:42.described as a major incident. The running the prison in Acklington was

:00:43. > :00:46.recently handed over to Soddxo Justice Services. The company plans

:00:47. > :00:49.to cut prison officers jobs, prompting concern about safdty at

:00:50. > :00:54.the sight from local residents. It was a crime that shocked thd nation.

:00:55. > :00:59.On the morning of March the 28th 1920 Wash 1984, an armed intruder

:01:00. > :01:02.went into a school in Middldsbrough and attacked the children. One,

:01:03. > :01:08.Nikki Conroy, was killed. Tonight, 20 years on her classmates gathered

:01:09. > :01:12.to remember the frost `` to remember the frock friend they lost.

:01:13. > :01:17.Nikki was 12 when she died. She was an angel, she's an angel now. She

:01:18. > :01:20.was a gorgeous soul, a pleasure to be around. Her life ended bx an

:01:21. > :01:24.intruder at school. Lee was her boyfriend back then and he's never

:01:25. > :01:30.forgotten. Kind, beautiful, friendly, polite. That's how I want

:01:31. > :01:34.people to remember Nikki, not just the fatal events of that dax.

:01:35. > :01:37.Tonight friends and family will remember Nikki at a charity event in

:01:38. > :01:43.Middlesbrough to celebrate, not mourn a girl killed by Stephen

:01:44. > :01:49.Wilkinson. That day he made his way into Hall Garth School and hnto

:01:50. > :01:54.class 8MR. The story of what happened next retold by one of the

:01:55. > :01:58.children. A man just came in and he grabbed me up and put a gun at my

:01:59. > :02:07.forehead and he said to the teacher, "Get out." And then three ghrls were

:02:08. > :02:11.stabbed ` Nikki fatally. Tr`gically the events at Hall Garth proved a

:02:12. > :02:14.portent of worse to come, bdcause two years later an intruder at a

:02:15. > :02:22.school in Dunblane killed 16 children. Much has changed since. In

:02:23. > :02:25.modern schools like this ond it is all about security cameras like

:02:26. > :02:29.these. The gates are kept locked and the doors are kept locked as well.

:02:30. > :02:33.Yet 20 years ago many schools had multiple entrances. These d`ys it is

:02:34. > :02:38.very hard to imagine an intruder being able to get very far. A new

:02:39. > :02:42.school stands of the site of Hall Garth now. The link with Nikki is

:02:43. > :02:56.unbroken. The school librarx takes her name. 20 years on, the girl who

:02:57. > :03:00.will always be 12 is not forgotten. The family of Teesside man who has

:03:01. > :03:04.gone missing in the Lake District have made an emotional appe`l for

:03:05. > :03:10.him to get in touch. Matthew Jordan, 20, was visiting Bowness whdn he was

:03:11. > :03:16.last seen leaving the pub. Today, police divers were c`lled in

:03:17. > :03:20.to search the shoreline arotnd England's largest lake near Bowness.

:03:21. > :03:24.It is part of a full land, `ir and water operation to try to fhnd a

:03:25. > :03:27.young man who is a student hn Middlesbrough. Matthew Jord`n's

:03:28. > :03:32.family and friends have travelled to help and his uncle, sitting

:03:33. > :03:35.alongside his parents, made this appeal for him to get in totch.

:03:36. > :03:40.Matthew is a popular, kind xoung man. We are very concerned `nd

:03:41. > :03:44.worried for him and this is so out of character for him, not bding in

:03:45. > :03:49.touch with anyone. We want to hear from you, Matthew. Matthew, if you

:03:50. > :03:55.see or hear this appeal, pldase get in touch with us. We love you and we

:03:56. > :04:00.just want you home. This is where Matthew Jordan was last seen in the

:04:01. > :04:04.early hours of yesterday. Hd had come out to get some fresh `ir and

:04:05. > :04:08.became separated from his friends. Since then there has been no trace

:04:09. > :04:13.of him. What we're asking is if local people can check housds and

:04:14. > :04:18.sheds, garages buildings, B`rnes, anyplace somebody could havd taken

:04:19. > :04:22.shelter. Let us know. Even hf somebody is not there, if there is a

:04:23. > :04:27.sign of anybody being there, let us know and we can check it out. Search

:04:28. > :04:30.teams have promised to conthnue the hunt for a young man described as

:04:31. > :04:35.happy and popular. Matthew was around six foot tall with d`rk brown

:04:36. > :04:42.hair. Anyone who may have sden him is asked to contact the polhce.

:04:43. > :04:47.As you might have seen, the Gateshead woman profoundly deaf all

:04:48. > :04:50.her life has been able to hdar for the first time. Joanne Milnd was

:04:51. > :04:54.born with a rare condition which causes both deafness and fotr G ,

:04:55. > :04:59.now blindness. But after behng fitted with cochlear ear implants,

:05:00. > :05:09.39`year`old Joanne was overwhelmed as she heard a sound for thd first

:05:10. > :05:13.time. It was the moment Joanne Milne had

:05:14. > :05:20.dreamed of all her life, behng able to hear. Could you hear those words?

:05:21. > :05:24.Yes! Yes, I did! Joanne, from Low Fell in Gateshead, was born with the

:05:25. > :05:30.rare and incurable genetic condition Usher syndrome, causing deafness and

:05:31. > :05:33.blindness. Joanne could lip read as a child, but now can't as she's

:05:34. > :05:40.losing her sight and life h`s become much more difficult. That moment of

:05:41. > :05:47.being able to hear for the first time, it was one of the best of my

:05:48. > :05:52.life. I can't stop crying. Dven thinking about the experience makes

:05:53. > :05:55.me cry now. Joanne's hearing was made possible through a cochlear

:05:56. > :06:00.implant, an electrical device surgically implanted into both ears.

:06:01. > :06:07.Her mother filmed as it was switched on and as she heard her own voice

:06:08. > :06:19.for the first time. It's all right! It's a big, big, life changhng day

:06:20. > :06:26.today. Can you hear your own voice? Yes!

:06:27. > :06:34.Amazing! That is it from me but I leave you with Hannah and the

:06:35. > :06:40.weekend weather forecast. It will be much brighter in the

:06:41. > :06:44.West, after a gloomy start ht will become brighter in the afternoon.

:06:45. > :06:48.More sunshine in Cumbria. Gloomy in North Yorkshire and the north`east

:06:49. > :06:52.but later in the day the cloud will start to lift and break for most

:06:53. > :06:56.parts, particularly further south and in the West we are expecting

:06:57. > :07:02.particularly high temperatures. Temperatures up to around 14`16

:07:03. > :07:06.Celsius in Cumbria tomorrow. Feeling very springlike, possibly even

:07:26. > :07:29.warmest temperatures in Cumbria On Monday, gloomy, possibly with a

:07:30. > :07:31.spell of rain but first a rdminder of tomorrow's forecast in otr region
