:00:00. > :00:15.Good evening. Army reservists have Much more on the BBC News channel

:00:16. > :00:18.Good evening. Army reservists have marched through Darlington town

:00:19. > :00:21.centre to mark the 37th anniversary of being given the freedom of the

:00:22. > :00:24.Borough. Hundreds watched the soldiers from the 50th Signal

:00:25. > :00:28.Squadron ` which is made up of local volunteers ` which provides support

:00:29. > :00:34.to the regular armed forces and can trace its history back to the First

:00:35. > :00:37.World War. We have lads who have been on operations in Afghanistan,

:00:38. > :00:41.we have lads who have been on operations in other parts of the

:00:42. > :00:44.world, and to have the support of our local community and who we draw

:00:45. > :00:50.a recruitment from, that is an incalculable thing. As we marched on

:00:51. > :00:54.with the people applauding and cheering, there was a lot of swagger

:00:55. > :00:56.in the lads' step. Fantastic. One of Cumbria's leading climbers is

:00:57. > :00:59.heading home after calling off his latest Everest expedition. Tim

:01:00. > :01:02.Mosedale from Keswick has made the summit four times. He described the

:01:03. > :01:05.situation following the avalanche which killed 16 sherpas as "an awful

:01:06. > :01:08.tragedy that has been sidetracked in to a different agenda". The

:01:09. > :01:14.mountain's been closed and he blames militants among those involved.

:01:15. > :01:17.Rehearsals are under way for a world premiere of a new choral work

:01:18. > :01:29.celebrating the rich traditions and stories of the North East. It's by

:01:30. > :01:32.Newcastle composer Will Lang will be performed at Durham Cathedral in two

:01:33. > :01:36.weeks' time. Phil Chapman reports. This ambitious new work covers

:01:37. > :01:48.north`east traditions in four pass, C, home, land and minds. `` sea,

:01:49. > :01:54.home, land and mines. The choir have been busy rehearsing with piano

:01:55. > :01:58.accompaniment, but the full performance will feature a full

:01:59. > :02:06.orchestra and some well`known names from the region. We have three clog

:02:07. > :02:14.dancers from the north`east who live in Newcastle, we have most

:02:15. > :02:22.importantly, Durham Choral Society, who will be singing with us. And the

:02:23. > :02:27.strong traditions of the north`east are rubbing off on some of the

:02:28. > :02:32.newcomers to the region. I have been in the north`east for 4.5 years, I

:02:33. > :02:36.teach at a school in the North East, and for me, there is such a vibrant

:02:37. > :02:41.cultural tradition here that does not was mixed with the choral

:02:42. > :02:49.society traditions, so it is very exciting. The Azores been a

:02:50. > :02:52.tradition in the north`east, but not much crossover between the classical

:02:53. > :02:59.tradition and the folk tradition, so it is nice to be able to bridge that

:03:00. > :03:03.gap. And the glorious heritage concert happens in these glorious

:03:04. > :03:10.surroundings on May the 10th, in Durham Cathedral. People flocked to

:03:11. > :03:12.a North Yorkshire town today to mark St George's Day and Shakespeare's

:03:13. > :03:15.450th birthday. The "Sonnets and Serpents" festival at Knaresborough

:03:16. > :03:18.Castle is the biggest community event ever to be held in the North

:03:19. > :03:22.Yorkshire town. Organisers were proud to give St George a boost,

:03:23. > :03:33.after news that fewer people than ever are celebrating his big day.

:03:34. > :03:42.Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo? It is troubling to bring St

:03:43. > :03:45.George back into this lovely family environment, and it would not be the

:03:46. > :03:49.same without our fabulous Shakespeare. We have got some great

:03:50. > :03:53.actors here. Football now, and if don't want to know the scores ` you

:03:54. > :03:56.know what to do! In the Championship ` Middlesbrough finished their final

:03:57. > :03:59.home game of the season in style, beating Barnsley 3`1. In League One,

:04:00. > :04:06.Carlisle's hopes of avoiding relegation suffered a blow as they

:04:07. > :04:10.were beaten by Oldham 1`0. In League Two, York City guaranteed their

:04:11. > :04:14.place in the play offs with a 1`0 victory over Newport. And Hartlepool

:04:15. > :04:20.drew 1`1 away at Plymouth. Gateshead Utd v Cambridge Utd match is still

:04:21. > :04:26.under way. Gateshead are currently leading 1`0. Now it's time for the

:04:27. > :04:38.weather with Jennifer Bartram. Good evening. It is looking drier as

:04:39. > :04:41.we head into this evening. It is going to be a mainly cloudy picture

:04:42. > :04:46.with the cloud coming in from the North Sea. Temperatures falling back

:04:47. > :04:52.to around eight Celsius overnight. Sunday will be wet at times during

:04:53. > :04:57.the morning. A few showers around, some of those on the heavy side, but

:04:58. > :05:03.we should see some sunny spells by the afternoon with temperatures

:05:04. > :05:13.reaching 14 Celsius. That's all for now. Have a good evening.

:05:14. > :05:21.Good evening. An area of low pressure has wrapped itself around

:05:22. > :05:26.the British Isles for this weekend. There have been a number of showers

:05:27. > :05:31.today, particularly in the south-west, and there is more to

:05:32. > :05:37.come overnight. You can see this swirl of cloud, the centre of it in

:05:38. > :05:41.the south-west of England. Close to the centre of that there will be

:05:42. > :05:49.some strong winds in the south-west of England and some heavy showers as

:05:50. > :05:51.well. There will be some big waves along the south coast as
