:00:08. > :00:08.Good evening. It's been Wembley direction.

:00:09. > :00:12.Good evening. It's been Wembley heartbreak for West Auckland this

:00:13. > :00:15.afternoon as they lost the FA Vase final to south coast club Sholing.

:00:16. > :00:19.They went down 1`0 in the Wembley rain watched by hundreds of

:00:20. > :00:27.travelling fans from County Durham. Peter Harris reports from Wembley.

:00:28. > :00:32.I am afraid it is the players of Sholing from the south coast who are

:00:33. > :00:38.celebrating behind me. Heartbreak for West Auckland, they lost 1`0,

:00:39. > :00:43.the winning coming 20 minutes from full`time. Marvin McLean scoring

:00:44. > :00:50.with a deflected shot. The man of the match was Sholing's goalkeeper.

:00:51. > :00:55.There were chances in both halves of the match, but it was not to be.

:00:56. > :00:58.There were high spirits before kick`off for the hundreds who

:00:59. > :01:03.travelled down from County Durham. Heartbreak in the end, though,

:01:04. > :01:07.because West Auckland have made it to Wembley twice, and lost both

:01:08. > :01:13.times. They have gone home empty`handed again. This also brings

:01:14. > :01:16.to an end a run of five successive victories in the FA Vase for

:01:17. > :01:25.north`east teams. It comes to an end this afternoon. 1`0 to Sholing.

:01:26. > :01:28.A man's been charged with murder after a man was stabbed to death in

:01:29. > :01:30.Middlesbrough on Thursday. 28`year`old Simon Bennett suffered

:01:31. > :01:33.serious injuries in the Thorntree area of the town but died in

:01:34. > :01:37.hospital. A 30`year`old man from Middlesbrough is due to appear in

:01:38. > :01:40.court on Monday. A 19`year`old man also arrested has been released on

:01:41. > :01:44.police bail. A man's died in a house fire in

:01:45. > :01:47.Middlesbrough. Firefighters were called to Acton Street just before

:01:48. > :01:52.1am this morning and found the man, who was in his 60s. The fire isn't

:01:53. > :01:56.thought to be suspicious. Detectives are making a fresh appeal

:01:57. > :01:59.for information six months on from a hit and run in Darlington.

:02:00. > :02:03.Three`year `old Danny Wake was killed on Neasham Road in November

:02:04. > :02:06.last year. The police are still to find the driver.

:02:07. > :02:09.Robust policing plans will survive in Cumbria despite more cuts,

:02:10. > :02:12.according to the man selected to be the county's new Chief Constable.

:02:13. > :02:16.Current Deputy Chief Constable Jerry Graham will take over from Bernard

:02:17. > :02:22.Lawson in August. He says the financial situation is tough but the

:02:23. > :02:24.force will cope. A long`forgotten war memorial

:02:25. > :02:28.commemorating the men of Gateshead who fell in the First World War is

:02:29. > :02:32.being put back on public display for the first time in 50 years. It was

:02:33. > :02:38.discovered in a council depot and has now been restored, as Jim Knight

:02:39. > :02:42.reports. A team of Royal Engineers have been

:02:43. > :02:45.hard at work all day building the supporting structure for the

:02:46. > :02:50.memorial. It'll soon be lifted into place ready for a dedication

:02:51. > :02:53.ceremony tomorrow. The unit volunteered to help out of respect

:02:54. > :02:57.for a certain Private George Wood, a young Royal Engineer in 1914, whose

:02:58. > :03:08.name tragically sits among the list of the fallen. Cared for. That is

:03:09. > :03:11.how we like to think of it, he is one of our own. We will look after

:03:12. > :03:14.him. The memorial will provide a tangible link for a much wider

:03:15. > :03:17.project aimed at bringing history to life for local children. They'll be

:03:18. > :03:21.able to touch Private Wood's memorial and then take part in an

:03:22. > :03:27.online project, finding out where he lived and grew up, bringing just a

:03:28. > :03:31.simple name to life. It is not just history, these were real people that

:03:32. > :03:38.lived in this area, every mother's son, brothers and uncles, so it is

:03:39. > :03:42.about making that history live. And of course the historical links go on

:03:43. > :03:45.and on. These giant timbers they are using to support the memorial

:03:46. > :03:50.actually came from the top tramway on the high level Bridge from when

:03:51. > :03:54.it was refurbished many years ago. Some of them are up to 150 years

:03:55. > :03:58.old. Back to football and it's a big

:03:59. > :04:01.night for York City. They're just over an hour away from the first leg

:04:02. > :04:04.of their League Two play`off semifinal. It's a sell`out home game

:04:05. > :04:08.against Fleetwood. Rugby, and Newcastle Falcons have

:04:09. > :04:11.ended their season by losing at home to Exeter this afternoon. They're

:04:12. > :04:16.still in rugby's top flight next season, though.

:04:17. > :04:22.Onto the weather forecast now. Here's Jennifer Bartram.

:04:23. > :04:26.Good evening. After a day of sunshine and showers, we're going to

:04:27. > :04:31.continue with the unsettled period as we head through this evening and

:04:32. > :04:33.overnight. Showers continuing to piling from the north`west, some of

:04:34. > :04:38.them will be heavy and thundery overnight. Lots of cloud otherwise

:04:39. > :04:42.and a fairly mild night, temperatures dropping to eight or

:04:43. > :04:46.nine degrees. We start Sunday on a cloudy note. There will be showers

:04:47. > :04:50.around as well, these can be heavy and thundery once again, with

:04:51. > :04:53.lighter winds and highs of 40 degrees.

:04:54. > :04:56.And that's all from us. Sunday Politics will be hearing from North

:04:57. > :04:59.East candidates fighting the European elections. That's tomorrow

:05:00. > :05:01.morning at 11am here on BBC One. I will be back with the latest at

:05:02. > :05:14.6:45pm. Have a good night. Good evening. We have seen plenty of

:05:15. > :05:21.showers scattered across the country today. There will be drier and

:05:22. > :05:23.brighter spells in between. Low pressure is sitting across the

:05:24. > :05:28.country, with some tightly packed isobars to the south. That indicates

:05:29. > :05:33.some strong winds. They will continue throughout the night, going

:05:34. > :05:38.up to gale force at times. The main focus of the wettest weather across

:05:39. > :05:45.parts of West Wales is this rain. It will not be a particularly cold

:05:46. > :05:48.start to Sunday. Showers, not everywhere, some of us will see

:05:49. > :05:52.drier weather weather window of sunshine around, but be prepared for

:05:53. > :05:58.those showers if you're stepping out in the morning. Throughout the day

:05:59. > :06:00.on Sunday, a bit of an improvement across
