:00:00. > 3:59:59an eagle in his final round to finish one ahead of Shane Lowry of

:00:00. > :00:08.Hello. Ireland. And that is

:00:09. > :00:11.Hello. Good evening. A postmortem

:00:12. > :00:15.examination is due to be carried out on the body of a man found dead at a

:00:16. > :00:19.property in Newcastle at just after six o'clock this morning. A cordon

:00:20. > :00:24.is in place at Leazes Court on Barrack Road, and extra officers are

:00:25. > :00:26.fifties has been arrested on fifties has been arrested on

:00:27. > :00:30.suspicion of murder. Detectives are asking who may have information

:00:31. > :00:33.contact them. It's being claimed that people's

:00:34. > :00:38.safety could be compromised by plans to close three major police stations

:00:39. > :00:41.overnight. Cleveland Police will shut the three stations at

:00:42. > :00:46.Hartlepool, Stockton and Kirkleatham from ten o'clock at night until

:00:47. > :00:49.eight in the morning. The move's part of cost`cutting measures as the

:00:50. > :00:56.force looks to save ?26 million from its budget over the next five years.

:00:57. > :01:00.Stuart Whincup reports. Front line policing on the streets

:01:01. > :01:03.and on patrol. This is what Cleveland's crime commissioner

:01:04. > :01:08.claims he's trying to protect in the budget cuts. So to save money, he's

:01:09. > :01:10.supporting plans to close three of its main police headquarters

:01:11. > :01:18.overnight, in Hartlepool, Stockton and Kirkleatham. It's about making

:01:19. > :01:21.the best use of the limited resources we have. We need to make

:01:22. > :01:24.sure the police are efficient and effective and the public have been

:01:25. > :01:28.best served. Those stations were only receiving one or two inquiries

:01:29. > :01:35.per night, so what we were doing was staffing a front desk for the night

:01:36. > :01:38.and getting one or two inquiries. Most people, he says, report

:01:39. > :01:44.incidents over the phone and rarely walk into a station. But some claim

:01:45. > :01:48.that would lead to an increase in crime and anti`social behaviour in

:01:49. > :01:52.those areas. I think what we're seeing is the beginning of a serious

:01:53. > :01:55.salami slicing, which will be at the detriment of Hartlepool. To actually

:01:56. > :01:59.close the police station to the public whilst not having a manned

:02:00. > :02:06.station there through the night is a very dangerous step. A lot of people

:02:07. > :02:10.go to police stations as a place of safety. Cleveland Police says it's

:02:11. > :02:13.not unusual for stations to be closed overnight. It says many

:02:14. > :02:18.neighbouring forces already do the same. It's promised to fit a video

:02:19. > :02:21.phone out the front so people can contact the main office in

:02:22. > :02:25.Middlesbrough. But opponents say that is not good enough, and it is

:02:26. > :02:32.wrong that the doors are closed when people come here needing help.

:02:33. > :02:37.UKIP will be hoping to follow up its local election success by winning a

:02:38. > :02:41.North East seat in the European Parliament tonight. The votes were

:02:42. > :02:43.cast on Thursday, and the results will be announced later this

:02:44. > :02:47.evening, with Sunderland the location for the North East count.

:02:48. > :02:51.There are three North East seats up for election ` eight in the North

:02:52. > :02:55.West, which includes Cumbria, and six in Yorkshire. We'll have all the

:02:56. > :02:58.latest from Sunderland on our late bulletin. And the results programme

:02:59. > :03:02.starts on BBC One from 11.00 tonight. There's also coverage

:03:03. > :03:05.online. Conservationists in County Durham

:03:06. > :03:08.who are trying to breed a rare type of butterfly say thieves may have

:03:09. > :03:14.inadvertently set back three years of work. A large quantity of moss

:03:15. > :03:17.has been taken from Burnhill Nature Reserve, and as Phil Connell

:03:18. > :03:23.reports, the moss contains a plant crucial to the butterfly's survival.

:03:24. > :03:29.It's the kind of moss that is highly prized by gardeners. On the Burnhill

:03:30. > :03:35.Nature Reserve, though, sphagnum moss is being used to attract a rare

:03:36. > :03:37.type of butterfly. The caterpillars that eventually turn into these

:03:38. > :03:43.butterflies feed on these marsh violets that grow here inside the

:03:44. > :03:47.moss. In the last few weeks, though, it's estimated around 50 large bags

:03:48. > :03:50.of the moss have been stolen, possibly by a professional gang

:03:51. > :03:55.selling it to gardeners for hanging baskets. Conservationists say the

:03:56. > :04:02.endangered butterfly, the pearl`bordered fritillary, has seen

:04:03. > :04:05.its numbers fall by 95%. And the removal of moss from the reserve

:04:06. > :04:09.near Consett is the last thing they need. It's extremely annoying,

:04:10. > :04:13.because there are that many people who put that much time and effort

:04:14. > :04:17.into creating these places to try to save this butterfly, which 15 years

:04:18. > :04:22.ago, all we find was maybe a dozen of these butterflies. To counter the

:04:23. > :04:25.damage, volunteers have been planting new marsh violets in areas

:04:26. > :04:33.of moss nearby, providing a crucial food source for caterpillars that

:04:34. > :04:36.may have survived. After almost a year as caterpillars, butterflies

:04:37. > :04:40.will be hatching in the next few weeks. Only then will Rangers know

:04:41. > :04:49.exactly how much damage has been caused.

:04:50. > :04:52.So, what about the region's weather prospects for our Bank Holiday

:04:53. > :04:55.Monday? With the outlook, here's Jennifer Bartram.

:04:56. > :05:01.Good evening. It's certainly been a wet day across parts of the North

:05:02. > :05:04.East and Cumbria. The showers will continue as we head through this

:05:05. > :05:07.evening and overnight. Again, they will be heavy at times, but they

:05:08. > :05:10.will eventually die away in the early hours of Monday morning.

:05:11. > :05:13.Things will be dry. Temperatures overnight will fall back to ten

:05:14. > :05:17.degrees Celsius. We could have some patches of mist and fog across parts

:05:18. > :05:21.of Cumbria initially, but many parts will have a dry and bright start to

:05:22. > :05:25.the bank holiday Monday. Dry through much of the day, but showers will

:05:26. > :05:27.start to get going later on in the afternoon, mainly across parts of

:05:28. > :05:31.the Pennines. Temperatures tomorrow doing well with highs of around 18

:05:32. > :05:35.degrees Celsius. As we go through the rest of the week, Tuesday is

:05:36. > :05:39.looking like a decent day. It will be dry and cloudy for most of us,

:05:40. > :05:42.but an area of rain is going to move in from the south`east, leading to

:05:43. > :05:45.heavy downpours as we get into Wednesday.

:05:46. > :05:50.And that's our summary. We're back at the later`than`usual time of

:05:51. > :05:53.10.50 tonight, as the results are being counted in the European

:05:54. > :06:09.Elections. Join us then if you can, and have a good evening.

:06:10. > :06:17.Good evening. Some of us had a pretty good soaking. It downpours

:06:18. > :06:22.around with thunder and lightning. It wasn't so bad everywhere. The

:06:23. > :06:26.satellite picture across the Midlands, East Anglia and the south

:06:27. > :06:33.coast, the Isle of Wight. A beautiful end to the day. You can

:06:34. > :06:34.see further west and north and that is where the storm clouds will
