:00:00. > :00:13.Now it's time for the news where

:00:14. > :00:15.The detective leading a murder investigation

:00:16. > :00:21.in Middlesbrough says he's closer than ever to making an arrest.

:00:22. > :00:24.The body of Rachel Wilson, ` sex worker, was discovered in 2012,

:00:25. > :00:28.Today Rachel's mother made a fresh appeal for informathon.

:00:29. > :01:14.Tina Wilson says that she whll not rest until

:01:15. > :01:25.You just wondering, is that anybody that you know? It is just that you

:01:26. > :01:32.cannot trust anybody any more. During that time, vital fridnds

:01:33. > :01:36.gathered and is was lost to the investigation. But for police,

:01:37. > :01:46.Rachel's murder remained a top priority. New lines of enquhry could

:01:47. > :01:50.be emerging. From tracking down Rachel's friends and former work

:01:51. > :01:54.colleagues. There are still no arrests in this case, why is it

:01:55. > :01:57.taking police so long? We h`ve to be clear about what we are

:01:58. > :02:01.investigating, we are keen to make an arrest but it has to be hnformed

:02:02. > :02:12.and accurate. It is a big ddcision but one what should we will take

:02:13. > :02:16.with the time is right. Do xou think the police are getting closdr? I

:02:17. > :02:21.do. And I really hope and pray that they have sorted it this ye`r. For

:02:22. > :02:27.her mother, today marks another difficult anniversary. Still

:02:28. > :02:29.hopeful, however, that her killer can be found 12 years after she

:02:30. > :02:31.disappeared. The A1 Western Bypass

:02:32. > :02:33.on Tyneside is notorious for traffic jams, but now the Government has

:02:34. > :02:36.announced a ?77 million upgrade to add an extra lane on a four`mile

:02:37. > :02:39.section near the MetroCentrd. But there's still no confirlation

:02:40. > :02:41.on whether the A1 further north in Northumberland will get

:02:42. > :02:43.its long`awaited dual carri`geway. Here's our Political

:02:44. > :02:54.Correspondent Mark Denten. 116,000 vehicles travel

:02:55. > :02:57.on this bit of road every wdekday. It?s one of the busiest sections

:02:58. > :03:00.of the A1 and if you've been stuck Today then the roads ministdr was

:03:01. > :03:04.here promising to turn the bit of road between Coal House `nd the

:03:05. > :03:20.Metro Centre from two lanes to three I know this piece of road vdry well.

:03:21. > :03:29.I have come up here many tiles and sat stationary in traffic. Ht has a

:03:30. > :03:31.real impact on motorists, and on the economy.

:03:32. > :03:35.It will cost up to ?77 millhon to do that ` in other words nearlx ?5

:03:36. > :03:39.But just a few miles north of here in Northumberland the A 's

:03:40. > :03:42.How long before that work's done too?

:03:43. > :03:50.We have two big rips that wd are scrutinising at the moment. Two of

:03:51. > :03:53.them are in the North East. We are doing a bit of this but there is

:03:54. > :04:00.more possibly today. The other one that we are looking at is the A . It

:04:01. > :04:04.is not the biggest road the country but it is one of the most d`ngerous.

:04:05. > :04:05.We will hopefully try to address this in the Autumn Statement this

:04:06. > :04:07.year. ?2,595 per head is spent

:04:08. > :04:11.on transport in London comp`red to This haulage firm says making

:04:12. > :04:14.the the rest of the A1 a dual carriagewax would

:04:15. > :04:31.help redress the balance. We want to be connected to our

:04:32. > :04:34.friends in Edinburgh, we want to have a good road between London and

:04:35. > :04:36.Edinburgh. It is not just about this region, it is about the whole of the

:04:37. > :04:38.UK. It'll take 18 months to

:04:39. > :04:40.carry out the work here. Hopefully eventually getting the

:04:41. > :04:42.traffic flowing, at least on this 30`year`old trains, inaccessible

:04:43. > :04:48.stations and lengthy journexs. The region's services,

:04:49. > :04:52.operated by Northern Rail, have come under fire from both

:04:53. > :04:55.passenger groups and politicians. The Government says it's investing

:04:56. > :04:57.?1 billion over the next five years, improving the railways in the north,

:04:58. > :05:14.and has begun a consultation ahead There are three specific ardas where

:05:15. > :05:18.I think they have in substantial improvements. One of them is the

:05:19. > :05:22.Carlisle to Newcastle route. We want to see trains stopping at the small

:05:23. > :05:29.stations, but we also want to see an express lane as well. That way we

:05:30. > :05:35.can have a fast train. The rolling stock has also been quite poor

:05:36. > :05:37.quality. And thirdly there hs peer connectivity in Cumbria. Th`t needs

:05:38. > :05:38.to be improved. Northern Rail, which runs

:05:39. > :05:40.the services, says passenger satisfaction has gone up in the past

:05:41. > :05:43.year and it's continuing to improve. There's more

:05:44. > :05:45.on the region's railways on Sunday Workington's Labour MP Sir Tony

:05:46. > :05:52.Cunningham has announced he'll stand The former teacher became MP

:05:53. > :05:57.for the constituency in Jund 20 1. Sir Tony, who was knighted two

:05:58. > :06:00.years ago, says he plans to spend A naval veteran who served

:06:01. > :06:08.on the Arctic convoys in World War Two, delivering ahd to

:06:09. > :06:10.the Russian allies, has finally received his Arctic Star

:06:11. > :06:13.medal on his 90th birthday. James Newlands, who lives in Ryton

:06:14. > :06:15.near Gateshead, was honoured Mr Newlands, along with othdr

:06:16. > :06:24.surviving veterans, had to wait 70 His medal was presented

:06:25. > :06:35.by the Commander of HMS Mersey. you're doing, have a great weekend.

:06:36. > :06:52.Let's find out what the weather has The risk of a shower just about sums

:06:53. > :06:56.things up. Through the earlx hours of the morning the showers will

:06:57. > :06:59.become more isolated. Many places dry. Temperatures will get hnto

:07:00. > :07:04.single figures in a few places. Tomorrow there will be enough cloud

:07:05. > :07:11.and a few showers. Particul`rly east of the Pennines. But some of us will

:07:12. > :07:17.miss the show is completely. Temperatures will peak around about

:07:18. > :07:22.18 Celsius in the West. As we head through the weekend and into next

:07:23. > :07:25.week, there is more of the same A lot of dry weather to be had on

:07:26. > :07:32.Sunday and Monday. Some bright spells. Temperatures in the West

:07:33. > :07:33.approaching 20 Celsius. Alw`ys just the risk of a

:07:34. > :07:37.move towards Sunday. The top temperature again 20. Fewer showers.

:07:38. > :07:40.Most out towards the east. That's the way it is looking.

:07:41. > :07:49.Good evening. For some the weather put on a show today - lightning and

:07:50. > :07:53.hail. For others more of a no-show. Showers at Wimbledon stayed away.

:07:54. > :07:59.They were further west. Torrential downpours with the lightning flashes

:08:00. > :08:05.over East Anglia. Local flooding in for folk. Showers through

:08:06. > :08:08.Glastonbury. Thunder storms over Mid Wales

:08:09. > :08:09.currently. Flashes of lightning
