:00:00. > :00:25.going away. In a village just outside Accrington

:00:26. > :00:29.Stanley. Officers have travelled to that area is now along with local

:00:30. > :00:31.officers, we entered that house and the boys have been found fit, safe

:00:32. > :00:34.and well. Have faith

:00:35. > :00:36.in Cumbria's health care ` the message from an NHS boss, at the

:00:37. > :00:39.official opening of a new hospital. The bid to bring the Tall Ships to

:00:40. > :00:43.the North ` for the fourth time. And a police force says farewell

:00:44. > :00:46.to its longest serving dog handler On the eve of the new Premier Leagu

:00:47. > :00:51.season we do a bit of crystal ball gazing with our Sunderland

:00:52. > :00:54.and Newcastle commentators. And after a host

:00:55. > :00:56.of new summer signings on Wearside and Tyneside we find out what our

:00:57. > :00:59.Premier League Managers think ahead Three brothers ` who've been missing

:01:00. > :01:15.from their foster home in Sunderland since Monday ` have been found safe

:01:16. > :01:18.and well, in Lancashire. Remus Matloch, who's 15,

:01:19. > :01:21.and his brothers Janko, who's 12, and David, aged 10, were discovered

:01:22. > :01:25.inside a house near Accrington. Meanwhile, seven people have been

:01:26. > :01:29.arrested in Birmingham, London, The police say they believe

:01:30. > :01:34.the children's disappearance was a carefully organised attempt to

:01:35. > :01:36.repatriate them, with one or both of their natural

:01:37. > :01:41.parents in Eastern Europe. Andrew Hartley joins us live

:01:42. > :01:43.from the police station in Newcastle where the investigation

:01:44. > :02:00.is being co`ordinated. Jeff, the boys were found just four

:02:01. > :02:04.hours ago. It was an extraordinary week and it has been a fast moving

:02:05. > :02:15.operation when the boys have moved up and down the country. On Monday,

:02:16. > :02:21.the boys told their foster parents they were going on a bike ride. They

:02:22. > :02:26.got the metro to Newcastle and they were picked up on CCTV walking away

:02:27. > :02:33.from Newcastle station. It emerged that the boys were taken by a taxi

:02:34. > :02:37.to London. They spent the night at an address in Enfield in north

:02:38. > :02:40.London. They were driven to Birmingham on Wednesday and

:02:41. > :02:45.yesterday, they were taken to a house near Accrington and Lancashire

:02:46. > :02:50.where they were found at 2:30pm. There have been a total of seven

:02:51. > :02:57.arrests, one in Newcastle, one in London, two in Birmingham and three

:02:58. > :02:59.in Lancashire. The police describe their disappearance as a

:03:00. > :03:09.well`organised criminal attempt to get the brothers out of the country.

:03:10. > :03:13.I believe the children have been contacted by somebody familiar.

:03:14. > :03:21.There has been some form of repatriation going on. Clearly, that

:03:22. > :03:25.is illegal. The culprit parents are not trusted by the local authority.

:03:26. > :03:29.The foster parents are meant to look after them. There has been

:03:30. > :03:33.corruption and criminal involvement. That investigation will carry on and

:03:34. > :03:36.over the next few days we will interview the boys and make sure we

:03:37. > :03:43.find out where they have been and what happened to them. We will get

:03:44. > :03:48.to the bottom, one way or the other. As was said in the clip, the natural

:03:49. > :03:53.parents are no longer be legal guardians of those boys. The bar ``

:03:54. > :03:59.the father was deported to Romania in 2012 after serving eight sentence

:04:00. > :04:04.for people trafficking. The mother is Polish and she left the country

:04:05. > :04:07.earlier this year whilst under investigation for criminal matters.

:04:08. > :04:11.This far`reaching hunt for the boys is over tonight and the boys are

:04:12. > :04:23.coming home tonight to the North East.

:04:24. > :04:25.The NHS chief whose damning report plunged hospitals in Carlisle

:04:26. > :04:27.and Whitehaven into "special measures" says people

:04:28. > :04:30.should still have faith in the quality of health care in Cumbria.

:04:31. > :04:33.Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, medical director for the NHS, was in

:04:34. > :04:37.While there, he responded to questions about the state of health

:04:38. > :04:39.care throughout the county, where all three acute hospitals are

:04:40. > :04:45.The appalling floods of 2009 brought devastation to Cockermouth,

:04:46. > :04:51.even to its health services, with GPs working out of Portakabins.

:04:52. > :04:54.But today the NHS's medical director performed the official opening

:04:55. > :05:02.ceremony on the town's shiny new hospital, billed as a one`stop shop

:05:03. > :05:14.I think this is a pretty close blueprint where we need to get to.

:05:15. > :05:20.We know that people won't care closer to home and we know that

:05:21. > :05:22.people are frustrated at having to visit multiple buildings, multiple

:05:23. > :05:30.organisations, beat their head against a brick wall `` brick wall

:05:31. > :05:31.with bureaucracy. Pulling people together in a building like this can

:05:32. > :05:35.make things easier for everybody. But this is

:05:36. > :05:37.the man whose report into death rates at hospitals in Carlisle

:05:38. > :05:40.and Whitehaven meant they had to be And they were later joined by the

:05:41. > :05:44.acute hospital in south Cumbria. So, what faith can people

:05:45. > :05:53.here have in the NHS? People know when they have problems

:05:54. > :05:57.that they need help with solutions. Special measures is bringing in new

:05:58. > :06:02.people with fresh eyes to help those organisations to get back on their

:06:03. > :06:07.feet and thrive. If that happening quickly enough when we have of ``

:06:08. > :06:12.stories of dirty hospitals? Improvement is never quick enough.

:06:13. > :06:17.But I am assured that the process is moving forward. Pretty quickly.

:06:18. > :06:19.In Cockermouth today though the opening was

:06:20. > :06:32.The devastation of the floods of 2009 may have given this real

:06:33. > :06:37.impetus but it was that if it was not for people power, this may not

:06:38. > :06:42.have happened at all. People protested to save the Cockermouth

:06:43. > :06:47.copper ash cottage hospital. I think people are delighted. It is a

:06:48. > :06:53.beautiful building. Most people seem very happy with it and it is a

:06:54. > :06:54.light, airy place to be. You can see a specialist in a place like this

:06:55. > :07:00.and it is great. Police say no further action is to

:07:01. > :07:03.be taken against the Chaplain of Durham School,

:07:04. > :07:05.the Reverend Philip John Bentham. He was arrested

:07:06. > :07:08.in May on suspicion of an historical sexual offence in the Merseyside

:07:09. > :07:12.area and was due to answer bail. Rev Bentham was suspended

:07:13. > :07:14.from the school while Merseyside police have now said

:07:15. > :07:21.they won't be pursuing the case. Newcastle University has decided

:07:22. > :07:24.to posthumously award medical degrees to two students who were

:07:25. > :07:27.stabbed to death in Borneo. Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger,

:07:28. > :07:31.both 22, were on a six`week They were attacked

:07:32. > :07:37.in the early hours of last Wednesday Borneo police say four men have

:07:38. > :07:41.confessed to the murders, An inquest into their deaths will

:07:42. > :07:50.take place in Derby on Monday. It's hoped

:07:51. > :07:51.a multi`million pound investment will secure hundreds of jobs

:07:52. > :07:54.in Teesside's chemical industry, The part of the plant known as

:07:55. > :08:00.the "cracker" at Sabic in Wilton is The move should bring down costs

:08:01. > :08:09.and emissions. Could

:08:10. > :08:11.the Tall Ships Race be returning to The world famous event,

:08:12. > :08:15.which has already drawn massive crowds at Hartlepool and on

:08:16. > :08:19.Tyneside, could be back in 2018 if a The race could mean a massive boost

:08:20. > :08:24.to the city's economy, as well as being a poignant reminder

:08:25. > :08:28.of Wearside's maritime heritage. There's nothing quite like

:08:29. > :08:34.the spectacle of a fleet of fully rigged Tall Ships sailing at maximum

:08:35. > :08:38.warp, and the annual race which fosters friendship between countries

:08:39. > :08:42.and training for young people has already been a huge attraction in

:08:43. > :08:46.the North`East on three occasions. Now a huge amount

:08:47. > :08:59.of work is being done to bring The good thing about our bit, there

:09:00. > :09:03.is that benefit you get from the race but there is also the legacy of

:09:04. > :09:09.bringing chips back to the river long term. It is very symbolic force

:09:10. > :09:14.under the smack it was the biggest shipbuilding town in the world 60

:09:15. > :09:18.years ago and I think people would like to see ships lined the river on

:09:19. > :09:25.both sides just like some of the old photographs that we can see now. And

:09:26. > :09:30.what would this mean for the city? It would be a huge economic

:09:31. > :09:35.benefits. We know the benefits brought to other cities, in terms of

:09:36. > :09:39.Hartlepool, it wasn't terms of ?30 million of impact. This can be huge

:09:40. > :09:42.for Sunderland. There are a lot of things going on in the city and this

:09:43. > :09:46.would be the icing on the cake. The prospect

:09:47. > :09:59.of the race coming to Wearside has We watched it a few years ago. Are

:10:00. > :10:03.you aware of the Sunderland bid? Just heard about it yesterday. It

:10:04. > :10:09.would be wonderful. Magnificent sight when you see all those square

:10:10. > :10:13.rakes. It is wonderful. It has brought a lot of success to other

:10:14. > :10:18.places it has been in so it is a fabulous idea. You like the idea?

:10:19. > :10:24.Yes, anything to bring people to Sunderland. The industry has gone so

:10:25. > :10:33.it would be great to see things down here. If the plan goes ahead, we

:10:34. > :10:39.could see sailing vessels here and it can mean so much to Sunderland.

:10:40. > :10:42.Not just financially, given the legacy of `` the history of

:10:43. > :10:46.shipbuilding, it could be an important legacy.

:10:47. > :10:49.Still to come ` the weekend's sports news with Dawn Thewlis.

:10:50. > :10:52.Under the hammer ` the remnants of the York Minster

:10:53. > :11:04.And I will be here shortly with the weather forecast but there is a

:11:05. > :11:09.weather warning in there as well. North Yorkshire Police's

:11:10. > :11:11.longest`serving dog handler is PC Vince Gillon says his most vivid

:11:12. > :11:16.memory is the day he took part in a dramatic man`hunt for two IRA

:11:17. > :11:40.members, who were involved in Good boy! PC Vince Gillon is saying

:11:41. > :11:49.goodbye to his beloved dog, Buck. He is presumed `` PC Martin Gayles is

:11:50. > :11:54.putting you through his paces. Some of the dog specialise in explosives,

:11:55. > :11:58.others and drug detection. For PC Vince Gillon, there are many

:11:59. > :12:04.memories of his 30 years in the force but one day he describes as

:12:05. > :12:09.the darkest. June seven, 1992. Special Constable Glenn Goodman shot

:12:10. > :12:14.dead by an IRA gunmen. A colleague wounded as they made what they

:12:15. > :12:19.thought was a routine stop of a car. Vince and his dog joined the huge

:12:20. > :12:23.police manhunt for the two fugitives across the North Yorkshire

:12:24. > :12:27.countryside in the ensuing days. It was the rural searches that we were

:12:28. > :12:34.involved in. Places that they might be hiding, in buildings or

:12:35. > :12:39.woodland. It was a massive shock. We don't expect that sort of thing in

:12:40. > :12:43.North Yorkshire. And yes, it was a huge shock to find out that the IRA

:12:44. > :12:54.had been responsible for such a penis act. Very distressing. `` for

:12:55. > :13:00.such a terrible act. They only little grey the importance of their

:13:01. > :13:05.dogs. The job at a police dog can do in ten minutes could take a police

:13:06. > :13:10.officer and hour to do. I like being a police officer and working with

:13:11. > :13:13.dogs makes it perfect. The prime of their life is about four or five

:13:14. > :13:19.when they start to earn their bread`and`butter. For Vince, it has

:13:20. > :13:25.been a career of searches for missing people which have brought in

:13:26. > :13:30.two bravery awards as North Yorkshire's longest dog handler.

:13:31. > :13:36.Good luck, enjoy your retirement. Thank you.

:13:37. > :13:38.30 years ago, a fire at York Minster was

:13:39. > :13:42.The blaze destroyed part of the vaulted roof in the great cathedral.

:13:43. > :13:44.And today, remnants of that blaze went under

:13:45. > :13:49.Blackened oak was being sold to pay for future works at the Minster.

:13:50. > :13:52.It's also felt it was an appropriate way to mark that 30th anniversary.

:13:53. > :14:06.30 years ago, it is doubtful that anyone thought that good could

:14:07. > :14:12.spring of the fire that destroyed the roof of York Minster's south

:14:13. > :14:17.transept. But timbers from that time are being auctioned to pay for

:14:18. > :14:21.restoration work and recruiting apprentices. A regular sale of

:14:22. > :14:25.stonework already helps that this is the first time that damaged 14th

:14:26. > :14:31.century oak beams were being sold off. The interest was immense. It is

:14:32. > :14:37.unique, there are not many pieces. There are gilded pieces, it is

:14:38. > :14:42.interesting. It is vital `` it is iconic, people remember the fire in

:14:43. > :14:46.1984. By buying the timber, they can put money back into restoration

:14:47. > :14:51.projects. But how much money would be raised? Difficult to know, but

:14:52. > :15:01.the interest is there. It will be interesting to see. Lot number 21!

:15:02. > :15:06.He need not have worried. Building `` bidding was enthusiastic. The

:15:07. > :15:14.timber was especially popular. All sure? At ?2000, all done! Yours,

:15:15. > :15:24.sir. Here was the successful bidder for a particular piece of history,

:15:25. > :15:28.Eilidh Child chunk that once supported the ceiling. `` a charred

:15:29. > :15:35.chunk. What would he do with it now? I will put it in the inside of my

:15:36. > :15:45.house. It will go over probably over a doorway. Hugh and other bidders

:15:46. > :15:59.people 's money is still being counted. A windfall for the Minster.

:16:00. > :16:04.It really was 30 years ago! I can't believe that. A long time

:16:05. > :16:08.ago. And it seemed like a long wait for the football season.

:16:09. > :16:12.Tomorrow sees the start of the Premier League football season.

:16:13. > :16:15.Both of our clubs have been busy in the transfer market and both

:16:16. > :16:18.Gus Poyet and Alan Pardew will be hoping their new signings make

:16:19. > :16:21.Sunderland kick`off at West Brom with Newcastle getting under way

:16:22. > :16:24.at home to the Champions Manchester City on Sunday.

:16:25. > :16:27.Last season's opener against Man City saw United lose 4`0

:16:28. > :16:29.at the Etihad and star player Yohan Cabaye refusing to play.

:16:30. > :16:32.Alan Pardew will hope for better things at St James Park

:16:33. > :16:35.and is confident his summer signings have filled the gap left

:16:36. > :16:48.Our new signing was important for intelligent than the number ten

:16:49. > :16:56.position. But we have other people who complain that position. We have

:16:57. > :16:59.new strikers. We have a lot of offensive options of real quality.

:17:00. > :17:02.But it'll be an unusually emotional start to the Premier League as the

:17:03. > :17:05.club pays tribute to lifelong fans Liam Sweeney and John Alder killed

:17:06. > :17:23.It it just shows you cannot take your eyes off the world affairs. It

:17:24. > :17:26.is important for Sunderland fans that we acknowledge as well.

:17:27. > :17:30.Building bridges with our local rivals. We want to thank them

:17:31. > :17:34.publicly for everything that has come from Sunderland. And also for

:17:35. > :17:38.us on the day that we cope with that emotional part of it and focus on

:17:39. > :17:42.what will be important on that particular day for us, which is the

:17:43. > :17:56.result. And we want one of their memory with a good performance.

:17:57. > :18:00.Sunderland's coach Gus Poyet is expecting much from his summer

:18:01. > :18:04.signings. He is determined to hang onto Connor Wickham whose flurry of

:18:05. > :18:08.goals spark the greatest fake `` the great escape from relegation. He

:18:09. > :18:14.wants to avoid last season's pitfalls. We had too many ups and

:18:15. > :18:19.downs. Maintaining consistency, making sure we are difficult to play

:18:20. > :18:25.against, keep getting better. That is the idea. Improving. We need to

:18:26. > :18:31.start well. It is very portion that you start the Premier League in good

:18:32. > :18:38.form. The Uruguayan's latest sign is from his old club, Brighton. What

:18:39. > :18:45.does the new man bring? Pace. We are looking forward to base. I know him

:18:46. > :18:50.well, very well. And I am convinced that he is one of the players who

:18:51. > :18:57.will improve the most. I saw him the last couple of days, looking good.

:18:58. > :18:58.So looking forward to showing everybody how important he can be

:18:59. > :19:01.for us. Now our Premier League commentators

:19:02. > :19:03.called it right last season. Listen to this from Mick and Nick `

:19:04. > :19:18.Messrs Lowes and Barnes ` Top after Newcastle for me.

:19:19. > :19:20.Sunderland, anywhere above top half will be a bonus.

:19:21. > :19:22.We've bridged the North East football divide to bring

:19:23. > :19:23.BBC Newcastle's two football experts together again,

:19:24. > :19:36.Slowly but surely, a steady stream of players. They got seven players

:19:37. > :19:43.in and there is a possibility of another three or four. The mission

:19:44. > :19:47.statement from the manager when he was first appointed talked about

:19:48. > :19:52.three summer signings and people were up in arms. They have done

:19:53. > :19:57.deals for this season and they are doing deals for the next 12 months

:19:58. > :20:03.to come. It has been an amazing summer for Newcastle in the transfer

:20:04. > :20:06.market. Jack Rodwell will be a player that everybody looks at

:20:07. > :20:10.because of the fee that was paid for him and he will be the marquee

:20:11. > :20:18.signing. But there is a big debate about who will play in goal. The new

:20:19. > :20:29.Cuba has not signed to sit on the bench. The marquee signing was

:20:30. > :20:33.captain at Iraq's. `` at Ajax. He can score goals. If they can clear

:20:34. > :20:39.up his fitness problems, he is the perfect replacement at number ten.

:20:40. > :20:45.Their first ambition will be to stay up. That has been documented. But, I

:20:46. > :20:48.think, because of the success of the cup runs last season, Sunderland

:20:49. > :20:54.fans will want another cup run this year. They jumped from 16th to 10th

:20:55. > :20:57.and they should have finished higher, without a shadow of a doubt.

:20:58. > :21:04.I think they will look to finish higher. The cups maintain interest

:21:05. > :21:12.of the fans. It is the cups that the fans are most preoccupied by. You

:21:13. > :21:19.look at the likes of Aston Villa, Sunderland, Crystal Palace,

:21:20. > :21:23.Southampton. So many clubs seem to have turmoil in preseason which

:21:24. > :21:31.opens the door for Sunderland with their pre`season to target 10th or

:21:32. > :21:33.11th. I would envisage a finish between seventh and eighth and as a

:21:34. > :21:39.push, I think they could get seven. BBC Newcastle has full Sunderland

:21:40. > :21:41.commentary on Saturday with Nick And on Sunday join Mick and John

:21:42. > :21:45.Anderson for the Magpies' opener. Saturday's lunchtime kick`off `

:21:46. > :21:47.Leeds v Middlesbrough in Now then for Carlisle United

:21:48. > :21:51.the new campaign hasn't really got Manager Graham Kavanagh has put

:21:52. > :21:55.together a new`look team following relegation to League Two

:21:56. > :21:59.but the Blues have lost home games against Luton in the league

:22:00. > :22:02.and Derby in the cup. Ahead of the weekend trip to

:22:03. > :22:17.Wycombe, though, the manager I was very pleased with how we

:22:18. > :22:22.perform. I think they gained a great deal from that in terms of

:22:23. > :22:28.confidence. And I think the sooner we get the points on the board, the

:22:29. > :22:37.steadier things will be. That will impact greatly on the mood of the

:22:38. > :22:42.group B is is excellent after now. `` albeit it is excellent.

:22:43. > :22:44.Catch all the Football league fixtures and results on the

:22:45. > :22:48.Now Captain Katy McLean from South Shields will be aiming to make

:22:49. > :22:51.it fourth time lucky when England meet Canada in Sunday's rugby union

:22:52. > :22:55.England last won in 1994 but have lost the last three finals

:22:56. > :22:59.And they won't be underestimating Canada,

:23:00. > :23:04.who gave them a tough test in the group stages to draw the game.

:23:05. > :23:12.As soon as you start thinking about lifting cups, you fall over. It is

:23:13. > :23:15.about making sure that we have our analysis Canada ready. Then we have
