:00:00. > :00:09.be back The two Newcastle United fans who

:00:10. > :00:16.died along with 296 others on Flight MH17 have been remembered `

:00:17. > :00:21.at the opening home game Liam Sweeney

:00:22. > :00:27.and John Alder were travelling to a pre`season tournament in New Zealand

:00:28. > :00:30.` when their plane was brought down At 5 minutes to 4,

:00:31. > :00:40.the normal pre`match procedure of Newcastle United's opening game

:00:41. > :00:44.against Manchester City was brought to a halt, and the team captains

:00:45. > :00:48.made their way back to the tunnel. They returned to

:00:49. > :00:50.the centre circle with the families of Liam Sweeney and John Alder,

:00:51. > :00:55.two dedicated fans who died as they travelled to the other side of the

:00:56. > :01:03.world in order to watch their team. A moving and imamculately`observed

:01:04. > :01:05.minute's silence then followed. Speaking just ahead of the game,

:01:06. > :01:08.Liam's father described the whirlwind of emotions he was

:01:09. > :01:19.feeling ahead of the commemoration. In their socks off to accommodate

:01:20. > :01:23.our family and John's family. `` Newcastle United have worked their

:01:24. > :01:31.socks off. The Manchester City fans have made a flag for them with the

:01:32. > :01:34.Newcastle badge. I think football will be secondary to date. It will

:01:35. > :01:40.be all about Liam and John. It is going to be hard. I would have loved

:01:41. > :01:47.to have run out with a black and white top on in front of everyone.

:01:48. > :01:49.But we have to celebrate these lives.

:01:50. > :01:51.The funeral of Liam Sweeney is due to be held

:01:52. > :01:54.this week, while the body of John Alder is yet to be identified.

:01:55. > :01:57.And you can see more of that story on tomorrow's Look North.

:01:58. > :02:01.Well, in the game itself, despite plenty of effort, and a passionate

:02:02. > :02:04.crowd, Newcastle just couldn't quite find enough to trouble a much more

:02:05. > :02:22.After required opening period, city took the lead in the 37th minute

:02:23. > :02:24.through David Silva. For a time, United looked capable of equalising,

:02:25. > :02:31.especially in the second half of all stop this effort was just one of

:02:32. > :02:36.several wasted chances. But a goal from Sergio Aguero on the final

:02:37. > :02:40.whistle secured all three points. The final score, Newcastle United

:02:41. > :02:44.nil Manchester City two. And you can see full highlights

:02:45. > :02:47.of that game on Match of the Day tonight here on BBC One

:02:48. > :02:50.after our late bulletin at 10:25pm. Thieves have made off with

:02:51. > :02:53.an 18th century piece of armour worth thousands of pounds, after

:02:54. > :02:55.scaling the stonework of one of Police are appealing for witnesses,

:02:56. > :03:13.but say they are unsure exactly They say the more you see something,

:03:14. > :03:17.the less you notice it. For weeks it would appear that parishioners at

:03:18. > :03:21.this church in Bamburgh in walking past the armour of Ferdinand Forster

:03:22. > :03:27.unaware that above their heads, the hook that held his helmet was empty.

:03:28. > :03:31.Thieves had climbed the stone altarpiece to reach the artefact,

:03:32. > :03:36.causing an estimated ?5,000 worth of damage to the elaborate stonework.

:03:37. > :03:42.The crime remained undiscovered until... A group that has particular

:03:43. > :03:48.interest in the Jacobite rebellion were due to visit and they must have

:03:49. > :03:57.been doing Iraq he earlier in the week, and on Friday they pointed out

:03:58. > :04:01.that the armour up their had gone. Today, parishioners were trolling

:04:02. > :04:05.through the photographs to establish when the helmet disappeared from the

:04:06. > :04:09.background. So far, the date of the crime has been narrowed down to

:04:10. > :04:15.sometime between April and July. I'm amazed that someone has stolen

:04:16. > :04:16.something, but also that they have done it in broad daylight,

:04:17. > :04:23.presumably. Back to sport now, and there's been

:04:24. > :04:26.a gold medal for the region on the final day of the European

:04:27. > :04:29.Athletics Championships in Zurich. Teesside sprinter Richard Kilty was

:04:30. > :04:33.on the third leg of the men's 4x100 relay team ` which strode away with

:04:34. > :04:39.the gold in a time of 37.93 seconds. Just two weeks ago, Kilty was part

:04:40. > :04:45.of the England team which won silver in the same event at

:04:46. > :04:54.the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Adam Gemili racing against the

:04:55. > :04:56.clock. Time for the weather

:04:57. > :05:07.prospects to start the week. The wind has been very much a

:05:08. > :05:12.feature of the weather today and the showers, too. Some very heavy ones

:05:13. > :05:17.for a time this afternoon. Still showers overnight, and still strong

:05:18. > :05:21.wind gusting. A cool feel to the night with wind and showers. A low

:05:22. > :05:25.of ten. Showers first thing tomorrow morning. Starting to ease away.

:05:26. > :05:31.Sunshine coming through but still a windy day. And once the showers

:05:32. > :05:37.start to drift eastwards, some spells of sunshine. Still, strong

:05:38. > :05:45.gusts of wind and good waves along the East Coast. Come the afternoon,

:05:46. > :05:48.showers on the sharp side. The strength of the wind a feature of

:05:49. > :05:52.the weather. The good news is that the wind will ease as we move

:05:53. > :05:55.through the afternoon. That's the summary. I'm back with

:05:56. > :06:14.the late news just after 10pm. Good evening. It was a slow start

:06:15. > :06:20.for England and Wales. We got there in the end today. A cloudy morning,

:06:21. > :06:24.with some outbreaks of rain. As that weather front sank south, breaks in

:06:25. > :06:29.the cloud developed. Different further north - it stayed windy and

:06:30. > :06:35.wet, with showers and longer spells of rain at times. That low area of

:06:36. > :06:40.pressure drifts off to the east. A few showers drifting further south,

:06:41. > :06:44.inWales and northern England. The strongest of the winds first

:06:45. > :06:48.thing tomorrow morning across the far north-east of Scotland. Rough

:06:49. > :06:55.seas. Hopefully fewer showers than we have seen today. A cloudy start

:06:56. > :06:59.and we run the risk of a few showers through Wales, the Midlands, into

:07:00. > :07:01.the south-east corner. By the end
