:01:04. > :01:06.but as you can appreciate, this is a big employer within the area.

:01:07. > :01:09.People are devastated for themselves, for the famhly

:01:10. > :01:15.The factory employs more than 100 people.

:01:16. > :01:17.It is thought the bad news here could be tempered

:01:18. > :01:22.by expansion at KP's centres at Stanley and Billingham on Tdeside.

:01:23. > :01:25.KP Snacks is now owned by a German company.

:01:26. > :01:28.It's carried out a rationalisation programme.

:01:29. > :01:31.It says this factory is underutilised

:01:32. > :01:38.The closure of the crisp f`ctory will be a poignant blow for Consett

:01:39. > :01:42.though, because this factorx was the firstinvestment in the town after

:01:43. > :01:48.Some of those who work here are couples.

:01:49. > :01:54.The local authority is award of the potential damage of the job losses.

:01:55. > :01:58.Our first thoughts are trying to support those 100 people who will

:01:59. > :02:02.lose their jobs and help thdm to get back into employment or whatever

:02:03. > :02:06.Workers were told to say nothing today.

:02:07. > :02:14.If confirmed, the factory is set to close early next year.

:02:15. > :02:18.A man who died after falling on a B oil platform in the North Sda has

:02:19. > :02:23.been named as Sean Anderson, from the Tyne and Wear area.

:02:24. > :02:25.The 43`year`old was working on the Unity rig,

:02:26. > :02:30.97 miles off Aberdeen, when the incident happened just after 4: 0am

:02:31. > :02:33.He was carrying out routine maintenance at the time.

:02:34. > :02:35.Police Scotland is carrying out a joint investigation with

:02:36. > :02:42.A drink`driver who crashed his car ` killing one passenger

:02:43. > :02:45.and injuring two others ` has been jailed for five ye`rs.

:02:46. > :02:49.Dominic Loftus, who was 22, died when the car driven by

:02:50. > :02:52.Ryan Glendinning came off the road near Penrith last xear

:02:53. > :02:58.The court heard that Ryan Glendinning had been drinking

:02:59. > :03:02.in the evening on the fateftl night that Dominic Loftus dhed.

:03:03. > :03:05.The court was told he'd drunk five pints of lager and two glasses

:03:06. > :03:10.He said he was determined to drive that night and was driving from

:03:11. > :03:14.the pub to the village of Greystoke when the accident happened.

:03:15. > :03:17.Dominic Loftus had not been drinking, but working in thd pub

:03:18. > :03:23.The car came off the road on the way to Greystoke,

:03:24. > :03:25.crashing through a hedge and a stone wall before coming to rest

:03:26. > :03:32.Two other passengers were seriously injured.

:03:33. > :03:36.Cumbria Police said they wotld not tolerate drink`driving.

:03:37. > :03:39.Once you hold a driving licence that is a highly

:03:40. > :03:46.You must remember that at all times drink`driving and drug`drivhng, even

:03:47. > :03:50.when it seems a moment of ftn, can lead to absolute tragic consequences

:03:51. > :03:53.and the message is that drink and drug driving will not be tolerated

:03:54. > :03:56.and it does have devastating effects, as we have seen today.

:03:57. > :04:00.Sentencing Ryan Glendinning to five years in prison, the judge said

:04:01. > :04:03.the sentence would seem wholly inadequate to a grieving falily

:04:04. > :04:07.He told Glendinning that through your actions you have left

:04:08. > :04:16.a close`knit family inconsolable and totally bereft.

:04:17. > :04:19.The North's reservists are helping to fill the gap left by Govdrnment

:04:34. > :04:42.For the last fortnight, 5th Battalion Royal Regiment

:04:43. > :04:44.of Fusiliers have been training for war in Europe alongside

:04:45. > :04:50.These volunteers are in the main impossible to disthnguish

:04:51. > :04:54.from full`time soldiers, most of whom say they'd be happy to

:04:55. > :05:00.We've both been to Afghan whth reserves, so we've had reserves

:05:01. > :05:05.Once they are up and running they are just as good

:05:06. > :05:09.But while few would question the skill and commitment of the

:05:10. > :05:12.individual Army reserve soldiers, there are not enough of thel.

:05:13. > :05:16.Like most regiments the 5th Fusiliers faced major

:05:17. > :05:23.I've been in the reserve forces and the regular forces and

:05:24. > :05:28.the last time I was in with the TA, we had a fully recruited colpany.

:05:29. > :05:31.I think this time around I'l finding there are far fewer people here

:05:32. > :05:35.and it has been a challenge to try to get the numbers into

:05:36. > :05:41.The Ministry of Defence needs 30,000 trahned

:05:42. > :05:53.In the year to April 2014, the total figure rose from 19,230, to 19, 00.

:05:54. > :05:59.But between April and July, the figure fell to 19,290.

:06:00. > :06:02.But there are hopeful signs beginning to emerge,

:06:03. > :06:08.In the year to the end of Fdbruary, they took on 24 new recruits,

:06:09. > :06:14.But in the last six months or so they've already taken on more of

:06:15. > :06:21.We have a good number of recruits, more

:06:22. > :06:29.And they are attending and passing the courses that we require.
