:00:00. > :01:02.And we will be talking live to Dave Johns, about the success of the film

:01:03. > :01:05.I, Daniel Blake. And the Durham and Yorkshire players who are the new

:01:06. > :01:12.boys in charge of England's cricket team.

:01:13. > :01:18.Hundreds of mourners gathered in York Minster this lunchtime to

:01:19. > :01:22.celebrate the life of seven-year-old Katie Rough was killed in the city

:01:23. > :01:25.last month. As well as a private family service, members of the

:01:26. > :01:30.public were invited to help remember her short life. Her parents said

:01:31. > :01:33.they wanted a lasting memorial to their daughter so that people can

:01:34. > :01:37.remember her for who she was and not how she died.

:01:38. > :01:45.Outside York Minster this afternoon, the hearse arrived pulled by two

:01:46. > :01:51.white horses. Mourners and onlookers fell silent. Her parents, Paul and

:01:52. > :01:53.Alison, were met by the Archbishop of York, Doctor John sentiment, who

:01:54. > :01:58.was leading the thanksgiving service. The coffin was decorated

:01:59. > :02:04.with characters from one of the writers that she loved the most, Dr

:02:05. > :02:08.Seuss. The competition join to sing some of our favourite hymns, and her

:02:09. > :02:12.uncle Stephen held back tears as he paid tribute, describing her as a

:02:13. > :02:19.smart and beautiful child who will live on forever in our hearts. They

:02:20. > :02:26.came together as a family and the grief has brought them together more

:02:27. > :02:38.so. And I actually think Stephen has been a tower of strength. Before the

:02:39. > :02:43.funeral, Katie's family released a video which shows a compilation of

:02:44. > :02:47.photos of the seven-year-old's short light. They want people to remember

:02:48. > :02:55.her for what she was like, and not how she died. Katie was killed last

:02:56. > :02:59.month. She was found with serious neck and chest injuries on a playing

:03:00. > :03:04.field near her home and died later in hospital. A 15-year-old girl has

:03:05. > :03:08.been charged with her murder. Her tragic death has affected many

:03:09. > :03:12.communities across the city, and hundreds of people packed into York

:03:13. > :03:16.Minster today to pay their respects to the little girl they didn't know,

:03:17. > :03:24.but they wanted to remember. It has moved the whole city. We are helping

:03:25. > :03:27.to raise money for two your charities, one of them for

:03:28. > :03:32.disadvantaged children, and just to remember her as a lovely little girl

:03:33. > :03:37.and not leave a legacy that something awful happened. After the

:03:38. > :03:44.service, the coffin was carried out from York Minster with the hymn,

:03:45. > :03:49.he's got the whole world in his hands with the words change to he's

:03:50. > :03:54.got Katie in his hands. This personal family tragedy has become

:03:55. > :03:58.something very public. And now, her parents want to set up a lasting

:03:59. > :04:11.memorial to the daughter that they say made them so happy.

:04:12. > :04:13.The Prison Officers' Association says it's not surprised

:04:14. > :04:15.by the findings of a BBC investigation, which secretly filmed

:04:16. > :04:18.widespread drug abuse and security failings at one of our jails.

:04:19. > :04:20.A Panorama reporter spent two months undercover at HMP

:04:21. > :04:22.Northumberland near Morpeth, which is privately run.

:04:23. > :04:38.On the undercover reporter's first day inside, 2.5 kilograms of Spice

:04:39. > :04:41.an illegal high with a prison value of quarter of a million pounds

:04:42. > :04:46.Despite this, Panorama was told that there was no lock down

:04:47. > :05:08.so that the block could be completely searched.

:05:09. > :05:10.During filming, the BBC discovered a serious security breach.

:05:11. > :05:22.Alarms on two doors were not working.

:05:23. > :05:24.Nearby, officers found wire-cutting tools and later a hole

:05:25. > :05:45.The reporter asked the Governor what went wrong.

:05:46. > :05:55.A former officer says that the company that now runs the prison,

:05:56. > :06:02.Sodexo, is to blame for the influx of drugs, a situation that he

:06:03. > :06:06.describes as ballistic. Sodexo got the nose off with things like drugs,

:06:07. > :06:11.saying that they didn't have drug problems. If you can't catch drugs

:06:12. > :06:18.you can report drugs and you don't have a drug problem. I think Sodexo

:06:19. > :06:22.should have been in that special measures and consideration be given

:06:23. > :06:34.to taking the contract from Sodexo for that prison. What have the

:06:35. > :06:38.prison and the government got to say? We have had a short statement

:06:39. > :06:45.from Sodexo, the company that runs the prison. They say that safety of

:06:46. > :06:47.staff is their top priority. The government has said that it is

:06:48. > :06:49.determined to reform our prisons. "Panorama - Behind Bars: Prison

:06:50. > :06:54.Undercover" is on BBC One at 8.30pm. A father and daughter have appeared

:06:55. > :06:56.in court in Carlisle charged with the manslaughter

:06:57. > :06:59.of their 91-year-old relative. and 43-year-old

:07:00. > :07:04.Jacqueline Fairclugh, both from Cockermouth, deny

:07:05. > :07:07.unlawfully killing Maude White - their mother-in-law and grandmother

:07:08. > :07:10.respectively, who died last May. Police searching for a man

:07:11. > :07:13.who was last seen at Hartlepool

:07:14. > :07:14.Marina have found a body. 51-year-old Andrew Roy failed to

:07:15. > :07:19.show up for work on Friday morning. The body hasn't yet been formally

:07:20. > :07:21.identified but Mr Roy's

:07:22. > :07:28.family has been informed. A tanker's overturned and fallen

:07:29. > :07:29.30 feet down a railway

:07:30. > :07:31.embankment in Northumberland. The vehicle, which contained

:07:32. > :07:33.heating oil, left the road between Fourstones and Warden

:07:34. > :07:37.while travelling towards Hexham. The heating oil had to be

:07:38. > :07:39.removed before the tanker

:07:40. > :07:40.could be recovered. The driver escaped

:07:41. > :07:44.with minor injuries. Campaigners against fracking

:07:45. > :07:46.in North Yorkshire say they'll be fielding candidates in this year's

:07:47. > :07:49.local council elections, who will block planning permission

:07:50. > :07:53.for the controversial process. A new group called Frack Free

:07:54. > :07:57.United has been set up which will coordinate

:07:58. > :07:59.the new political strategy Protests, petitions,

:08:00. > :08:11.and legal challenges have become part of the anti-fracking story over

:08:12. > :08:14.the past couple of years But, so far, they have had

:08:15. > :08:17.little practical effect. If local councillors can't be persua

:08:18. > :08:22.to turn down planning permission, We've got County Council elections

:08:23. > :08:28.coming up in North Yorkshire. With several others right

:08:29. > :08:30.across the country. And we are looking for people

:08:31. > :08:39.who are going to stand political party who will,

:08:40. > :08:43.as part of their manifesto, We need people who are going to come

:08:44. > :08:50.to County Hall who are passionate about environmental issues,

:08:51. > :08:51.passionate about education, about child protection,

:08:52. > :08:53.about rural isolation, about maintaining

:08:54. > :08:57.a sustainable library service, Protests in the past outside

:08:58. > :09:06.North Yorkshire County Council headquarters in Northallerton have

:09:07. > :09:10.already failed to convince councillors who control the planning

:09:11. > :09:15.authority to turn down the one fracking application they have had

:09:16. > :09:24.to decide on so far. The real test as to whether this

:09:25. > :09:26.political initiative is going to work will only be known

:09:27. > :09:29.in May, after the local Across all those county councils,

:09:30. > :09:33.there are companies that asking them to grant permission

:09:34. > :09:48.for them to frack. Recruitment has begun for a new team

:09:49. > :09:52.building is full York Minster after 30 volunteers were sacked last month

:09:53. > :09:57.after concerns about safeguarding. Part of the role of head of the bell

:09:58. > :10:08.tower will include having to hire a team of volunteer bell ringers.

:10:09. > :10:13.Coming up, the act of kindness. How Samaritan helped to turn around the

:10:14. > :10:17.light of this homeless man. And if you are fed up feeling frozen,

:10:18. > :10:19.things are going to become milder over the next few days. Join me

:10:20. > :10:26.later for the forecast. It's a hard-hitting story which has

:10:27. > :10:29.provoked a lot of political debate. Shot on Tyneside, "I, Daniel Blake"

:10:30. > :10:32.is a film about our benefits system. it starred a Geordie comic

:10:33. > :10:38.in his first ever feature. And last night it won Outstanding

:10:39. > :10:41.British Film at the Baftas, shining an even brighter

:10:42. > :10:42.international spotlight Our arts reporter Sharuna Sagar

:10:43. > :10:47.was at the ceremony and is in Central London

:10:48. > :10:49.for us tonight. I'm at Regent Street Cinema

:10:50. > :10:59.where, as you can see, they are screening the Bafta-award

:11:00. > :11:02.winning I, Daniel Blake. I can say that now because last

:11:03. > :11:05.night the honour was bestowed on the film at the 70th

:11:06. > :11:12.British Academy Film Awards. I was there for the build-up

:11:13. > :11:25.on an immaculate red carpet. You have to keep the red carpet

:11:26. > :11:29.clean because the stars will be out tonight for the BAFTAs this year.

:11:30. > :11:39.The question is will the Brits triumph over the glitz? The attempt

:11:40. > :11:44.to put Newcastle back on the cinematic map is up against the

:11:45. > :11:50.blockbuster Hollywood musical, La La Land.

:11:51. > :11:58.Hollywood royalty, actual royalty and Geordie royalty.

:11:59. > :12:11.Dave, you scrub up well. Yes, it is a long way from Byker to the BAFTAs.

:12:12. > :12:18.What an amazing journey. We shot this in 2015 and we never thought of

:12:19. > :12:20.anything like this. It started at Cannes and has just gone on and on.

:12:21. > :12:21.It is amazing. Ken Loach cast the standup

:12:22. > :12:24.comedian in the lead role of his hard hitting drama

:12:25. > :12:26.about the welfare state. But why did he decide

:12:27. > :12:35.to film it in Newcastle? It is a city with a strong sense of

:12:36. > :12:38.resistance. It is a fine city. It looks great but also, the people

:12:39. > :12:40.make you smile as well as break your heart.

:12:41. > :12:41.And that certainly had some bearing on

:12:42. > :12:44.the first award of the evening -

:12:45. > :12:54.Incredibly, this is the first Bafta Ken Loach has won

:12:55. > :13:01.and he has the people of the North East to thank for that.

:13:02. > :13:08.Thank you to the Academy for endorsing the truth of what the film

:13:09. > :13:12.says which hundreds of thousands of people in this country know, and

:13:13. > :13:16.that is that the most vulnerable and the purest people are treated by

:13:17. > :13:20.this government with a callous brutality which is disgraceful. And

:13:21. > :13:24.despite the glitz and glamour of occasions like this, we are with the

:13:25. > :13:33.people. Thanks, for this. I'm now joined by the bleary-

:13:34. > :13:43.eyed star of the film, Dave Johns. You have been up all night? Yes,

:13:44. > :13:48.with all the greats and the stars. That must of been a special

:13:49. > :13:53.occasion. Yes, it was. Such a great thing for the film. It keeps it in

:13:54. > :13:58.the public eye. It is great. Two years ago you were just a jobbing

:13:59. > :14:02.Geordie stand-up comedian. Now you are an international movie star.

:14:03. > :14:09.Where did it all go wrong? Where did it all go wrong?! It has been an

:14:10. > :14:21.incredible journey. From October 2015 it started in Byker, and now

:14:22. > :14:30.we're at the BAFTA awards. And you have all of these a list stars on

:14:31. > :14:40.speed dial now. Yes, yes. Meryl Streep and Isabel Huppert, my new

:14:41. > :14:47.pals. What is next for you? I am doing the Edinburgh Festival this

:14:48. > :14:51.year, at the Pleasance and I have just heard from my agent that I have

:14:52. > :15:02.got a film starting in April, May, so that is exciting. And you

:15:03. > :15:09.secretly want to be a Bond villain. Yes, how cool would that be? Living

:15:10. > :15:16.in an abandoned mine, riding a robotic pit pony. They have had

:15:17. > :15:18.Europeans and posh English people, but now they need to have a Geordie

:15:19. > :15:24.Bond villain. Dave tells me he's available after

:15:25. > :15:37.the Edinburgh Festival - It is a great idea. I like it. He

:15:38. > :15:38.will have two toughen up and take his coat off.

:15:39. > :15:41.Now, how many times have you walked past a so-called

:15:42. > :15:43.down-and-out person in a doorway without a second thought?

:15:44. > :15:44.Well, Phil Webb was in that situation.

:15:45. > :15:47.Lots of people walked by when he was at rock bottom,

:15:48. > :15:51.As actor and director Chris Connel reports,

:15:52. > :15:58.that act of kindness helped turn Phil's life round.

:15:59. > :16:08.Phil Webb, a former soldier performing in brother 22 theatre

:16:09. > :16:14.company's war stories. 17 months ago, he was drunk and homeless in

:16:15. > :16:20.Carlisle. The main thing I remember is that it was cold and I felt

:16:21. > :16:27.pathetic. I just sat with my head down. Nobody could see me and I

:16:28. > :16:32.didn't want to see anybody else. It all changed when a passer-by decided

:16:33. > :16:35.to help. After a night in a bed and breakfast, Phil's good Samaritan put

:16:36. > :16:39.him in touch with the British Legion. It helped get him off the

:16:40. > :16:50.streets and back on his feet. And the stranger that helped him? Inside

:16:51. > :16:54.out tracked him down, Stephen Finlayson, fitness trainer and good

:16:55. > :16:58.Samaritan. He said that the look in Phil's eyes make them act. I have

:16:59. > :17:03.seen that look before. That is when you know that someone is at rock

:17:04. > :17:06.bottom. He doesn't need food, drink or a sleeping bag, he needs someone

:17:07. > :17:13.to pick him up and take him somewhere where he's going to be

:17:14. > :17:17.safer than on streets. I can tell you that Phil sees that moment as

:17:18. > :17:19.the pivotal moment of his life when everything started turning round and

:17:20. > :17:25.heading in the right direction. Would you be surprised to find out

:17:26. > :17:30.that Phil is in a play that I directed? No way. Literally one year

:17:31. > :17:35.from that night that you met him. You are kidding. Would you like to

:17:36. > :17:56.meet him? HE SOBS. Yes, I would love to come

:17:57. > :18:05.and meet him. So, do Stephen and Phil get to meet? You can see what

:18:06. > :18:06.happens tonight on Inside Out tonight.

:18:07. > :18:18.And Inside Out is here on BBC One at 7.30pm.

:18:19. > :18:22.Time for Team Talk with Justin and Steve.

:18:23. > :18:25.Thanks, Carol. Steve, we'll come to you and the football in a moment,

:18:26. > :18:27.but we HAVE to start with cricket tonight because,

:18:28. > :18:29.as you may have seen, England's new skipper

:18:30. > :18:31.and vice-captain come from our two first-class counties.

:18:32. > :18:34.In what must be one of the worst kept secrets in sport,

:18:35. > :18:36.Yorkshire batsman Joe Root's been named England captain,

:18:37. > :18:38.replacing Alastair Cook, who resigned last week.

:18:39. > :18:40.His deputy is 25-year-old Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes -

:18:41. > :18:46.continuing his incredible rollercoaster of a career so far.

:18:47. > :18:51.And it's hardly been plain sailing for our football clubs, either.

:18:52. > :18:53.Just the one winner this week among our league clubs.

:18:54. > :18:57.at the North East Football Writers' awards?

:18:58. > :19:05.It was nice to have my charity work award. And congratulations to Jordan

:19:06. > :19:07.Pickford and Jermaine Defoe, two worthy winners.

:19:08. > :19:10.And well done, too, to Middlesbrough -

:19:11. > :19:11.holding in-form Everton to a goalless draw.

:19:12. > :19:18.Creeping towards safety, in a monsoon at the Riverside.

:19:19. > :19:26.Did well at Spurs last week. Good performance from Middlesbrough. They

:19:27. > :19:29.needed the goalkeeper to play well. Best defence outside of the top six.

:19:30. > :19:34.Many Middlesbrough fans would have taken a point before the game. With

:19:35. > :19:39.all these drawers, it shows some grit and determination. They need a

:19:40. > :19:43.few wins, though. Three goals in the last three games, they are going to

:19:44. > :19:49.have to win five out of the next 13. They have got seven winnable games.

:19:50. > :19:56.They almost pinched it right at the death. When you bring on Rudy

:19:57. > :20:04.Gestede, he's renowned for being good in you, and that was a save

:20:05. > :20:11.from Joel Robles. Once again, will we have played really well against a

:20:12. > :20:13.really good team who are in good form, so once again, we have to say

:20:14. > :20:18.well done to the players. Light snow, with temperatures

:20:19. > :20:20.dropping to minus 11! That's what Sunderland's players

:20:21. > :20:22.can look forward to, on their mid-season break

:20:23. > :20:24.in New York. Not sure if that was a distraction

:20:25. > :20:29.on Saturday, Steve - can't imagine it'll be a barrel

:20:30. > :20:41.of laughs I was on their trip to Dubai last

:20:42. > :20:45.year. It was a great warm weather trip, a great bonding trip. They

:20:46. > :20:49.actually started well on Saturday. First 20 minutes, pretty confident.

:20:50. > :20:53.Southampton get a lucky break and it seemed to knock the stuffing out of

:20:54. > :20:58.Sunderland. It came off the arm of Manolo Gabbiadini. This was the

:20:59. > :21:04.killer blow on the stroke of half-time. Yes, good play from him

:21:05. > :21:09.but a little bit too easy. How many goals how they conceded from crosses

:21:10. > :21:13.this year? They changed at half-time to a back three or a back four. But

:21:14. > :21:21.space doesn't score goals, you have two pick players up. You expect the

:21:22. > :21:26.reaction at 2-0 at half-time, but it didn't come.

:21:27. > :21:31.The expectation was on us to win and at times this season we have not

:21:32. > :21:36.taken it. We had a great chance to move out of the bottom three today

:21:37. > :21:39.if results are gone for us. Any game we don't pick anything up is a game

:21:40. > :21:43.lost because the games are running out, so we have to win some so that

:21:44. > :21:45.we can stay up. It is as simple as that.

:21:46. > :21:47.Newcastle reclaimed top spot in the Championship after beating Wolves at

:21:48. > :21:50.Molineux - Alexsandr Mitrovic the matchwinner, but he - and United -

:21:51. > :21:58.How many times do we see teams at the top of the league riding their

:21:59. > :22:01.luck? You have two. Teams at the top seem to get the lucky breaks. We

:22:02. > :22:09.have seen this many times this season. Aleksandr Mitrovic is

:22:10. > :22:11.involved in what. He plays on the edge, an old-fashioned centreboard.

:22:12. > :22:16.This is the one that cautioned. After that he is treading a fine

:22:17. > :22:23.line as an experienced manager can see. Wolves kept plugging away

:22:24. > :22:33.without really getting at Newcastle. This was the image -- the incident

:22:34. > :22:37.where he could have got sent off, Ikeme. You can see why the referee

:22:38. > :22:42.has given him the benefit of the doubt. They get another break. He

:22:43. > :22:46.becomes active. If you work hard, you get lucky breaks and Newcastle

:22:47. > :22:55.are working very hard. Off at half-time, managed to weather the

:22:56. > :22:56.storm but today, Benitez was still unhappy at the treatment of

:22:57. > :23:09.Aleksandr Mitrovic. He did absolutely nothing,

:23:10. > :23:11.absolutely nothing. And then the second one, you forget that and the

:23:12. > :23:15.third one is not there. -- not fair. In League Two, Hartlepool are being

:23:16. > :23:18.dragged into the relegation battle, and Carlisle are clinging to that

:23:19. > :23:20.third promotion spot after being hammered 4-1

:23:21. > :23:22.at home by Blackpool. Manager Keith Curle said some

:23:23. > :23:28.of the defending was "pathetic". You have to admire his honesty. It

:23:29. > :23:32.is too easy, here. They back off and back off. And a bad thing for

:23:33. > :23:37.Carlisle is that the chasing pack have caught them up. If Lookman win,

:23:38. > :23:43.Carlisle can be out of the top three. Have you been given a back

:23:44. > :23:50.pass like that? Yes, probably a few, defensive lapses have cost them.

:23:51. > :23:55.They will not want to watch that one again. No matter what the level,
