:00:00. > :00:00.Hello, and welcome to Thursday's Look North.

:00:00. > :00:08.Now her family are urging other women to get tested for the disease.

:00:09. > :00:14.Even when you're 50, is still need your mum.

:00:15. > :00:16.So to see a five-year-old crying for his mum is

:00:17. > :00:23.As the Queen unveils a memorial, families of those who served

:00:24. > :00:25.in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars ask, "Why weren't we invited?"

:00:26. > :00:28.The new recruits - Cumbria takes on its first batch

:00:29. > :00:29.of full time firefighters for eight years.

:00:30. > :00:35.And the town that's trying to bowl over a new generation

:00:36. > :00:42.Well, if you're looking to combine a sporting

:00:43. > :00:44.career with an education, we've been to look at a new

:00:45. > :00:53.And what does the future hold for Middlesbrough's head coach,

:00:54. > :01:10.Get tested - that's the message from a family of a Teesside mum

:01:11. > :01:11.who died of cancer earlier this year.

:01:12. > :01:15.Ferzana Khan was due to travel to Germany from her Middlesbrough

:01:16. > :01:17.home for pioneering treatment for the disease,

:01:18. > :01:21.But she died before she could make the trip.

:01:22. > :01:24.Now a campaign's been launched to encourage other women from black,

:01:25. > :01:27.Asian and minority backgrounds to take a smear test.

:01:28. > :01:30.Ferzana's family say many women fail to get tested because they don't

:01:31. > :01:33.know about screening, or are frightened or embarrassed.

:01:34. > :01:44.That's how Ferzana Kahn's family described the mother-of-four.

:01:45. > :01:47.She was 41 when she died in January - three years after being diagnosed

:01:48. > :01:53.Now her relatives have started a campaign to encourage more women

:01:54. > :01:57.from minority ethnic backgrounds to attend their smear tests.

:01:58. > :02:00.I think seeing what her family went through, especially young children,

:02:01. > :02:08.You know, it doesn't matter how old you are.

:02:09. > :02:11.Even when you're 50, you still need your mum.

:02:12. > :02:13.So to see a five-year-old crying for his mum is

:02:14. > :02:16.And there has been, you know, so many other deaths

:02:17. > :02:20.within the community, people who died of cancer.

:02:21. > :02:24.With Ferzana, it's closer to home because she was so close to us.

:02:25. > :02:26.A recent survey by Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust -

:02:27. > :02:29.the UK's only dedicated charity - showed 30% of Asian women didn't

:02:30. > :02:34.And a third more black, Asian and minority ethnic women

:02:35. > :02:38.compared to white women said they had never attended screening.

:02:39. > :02:45.There is a real fear around the test itself,

:02:46. > :02:51.And also around what it was going to find.

:02:52. > :02:53.And this feeling of rather not knowing, the fear about cancer

:02:54. > :02:56.and cancer being a bit of a taboo subject.

:02:57. > :03:04.And also embarrassment, being a really big factor in it.

:03:05. > :03:08.Ferzana's family have now made a film as part of their campaign

:03:09. > :03:12.to try to encourage more women to turn up for their appointments.

:03:13. > :03:15.What it is, Doctor, we're going to Pakistan in the morning

:03:16. > :03:33.Earlier screening, Ferzana's friends say, could have helped her,

:03:34. > :03:38.Now a lot of people are mentioning and realising factors affect every

:03:39. > :03:39.age group, it's not just the old, it's not just the young, it's

:03:40. > :03:42.indiscriminate. Earlier screening, Ferzana's friends

:03:43. > :03:44.say, could have helped her, allowing her more time

:03:45. > :03:46.with the family Detectives investigating a report

:03:47. > :04:00.of rape in Redcar last Friday, say the circumstances of the attack

:04:01. > :04:03.are not as first reported. Cleveland Police say they're no

:04:04. > :04:07.longer looking for two men who forced a woman and her child

:04:08. > :04:10.into a vehicle on Redcar seafront. They say enquiries are ongoing

:04:11. > :04:13.into an allegation of rape involving people who may have

:04:14. > :04:16.known each other. Police are appealing for anyone

:04:17. > :04:18.who may have seen a woman and toddler in the area

:04:19. > :04:21.of Roseberry Road and Larkswood Road between 4pm and 6pm last

:04:22. > :04:28.Friday to get in touch. They were conflicts which saw

:04:29. > :04:30.thousands of servicemen and women Today a memorial dedicated to those

:04:31. > :04:40.who fought in the two wars in Iraq and in Afghanistan was unveiled

:04:41. > :04:44.by the Queen in London. But some of the families of those

:04:45. > :04:47.who lost loved ones say they feel We've spoken to one mother,

:04:48. > :04:52.whose son was killed in Iraq. More than 800 British military

:04:53. > :05:00.personnel and civilians Today 2,500 people were invited

:05:01. > :05:18.to this event in London There is a time for everything, and

:05:19. > :05:20.a season for every activity under heaven. Of this memorial

:05:21. > :05:22.commemorates... ?1 million had been

:05:23. > :05:24.raised for the memorial. But some affected the most

:05:25. > :05:27.by the wars did not get an invite - like Janice Procter,

:05:28. > :05:29.from Washington. Her son, Michael Tench,

:05:30. > :05:41.was killed by a roadside I didn't even know when it was being

:05:42. > :05:46.unveiled. Not any form of update to say that this was going to go ahead.

:05:47. > :05:52.Nothing. How would you feel about that? I just kicked out of common

:05:53. > :05:59.courtesy for the respect shown to all fallen, it's not parents that

:06:00. > :06:02.need the recognition. It's the ones that gave all.

:06:03. > :06:03.Among those at the service was Tony Blair.

:06:04. > :06:06.The Chilcot Report last year concluded he overstated the threat

:06:07. > :06:07.posed by Saddam Hussein, and sent ill-prepared

:06:08. > :06:20.Absolutely sick. He sent my child, and plenty more.

:06:21. > :06:21.Janice has written to the Prime Minister

:06:22. > :06:24.She's organising a charity event to raise money

:06:25. > :06:26.for what's being called "The Peoples' Monument

:06:27. > :06:41.Jog, walk, run a little from the lighthouse to the coast road into

:06:42. > :06:43.Sunderland city, ending up at the square.

:06:44. > :06:45.There's some comfort that a monument has been dedicated to

:06:46. > :06:50.But there has been controversy today.

:06:51. > :06:54.Our region paid a heavy price in the conflicts.

:06:55. > :06:57.The Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has been in Cumbria today

:06:58. > :07:00.to announce road widening schemes at roundabouts near

:07:01. > :07:06.?2.6 million will be spent improving traffic flows on the A66 and A595

:07:07. > :07:09.ahead of major developments in west Cumbria such as the planned

:07:10. > :07:20.And he's hinted there may be bigger announcements in the future.

:07:21. > :07:23.This is a start to what I believe needs to be a rolling programme

:07:24. > :07:26.There's a huge investment plan down by the coast,

:07:27. > :07:32.We've got to make sure that this part of Cumbria has infrastructure

:07:33. > :07:38.These are two small schemes for a start -

:07:39. > :07:45.It's one of our region's most vital industries,

:07:46. > :07:48.Nissan and its suppliers are breaking production

:07:49. > :07:52.But our car industry will need more skilled workers in the future.

:07:53. > :07:55.So today a training academy opened, designed to meet that challenge.

:07:56. > :08:03.Up to 100 apprentices will be trained at the centre in Washington,

:08:04. > :08:07.Training skilled workers - Britain's competitors

:08:08. > :08:13.Too many of our young people are leaving formal education

:08:14. > :08:16.without the skills they need for today's labour market.

:08:17. > :08:20.In his budget this week, the Chancellor annopunced measures

:08:21. > :08:23.to boost apprenticeships and a technical level qualification

:08:24. > :08:28.But here in Washington, they're ahead of the game.

:08:29. > :08:32.These ?300,000 robots are used to make chassis parts for Nissan.

:08:33. > :08:35.But they're just a pricey jumble of wires and metal without a

:08:36. > :08:39.human programmer - which is where these people come in.

:08:40. > :08:42.Apprentices at a new training academy opened today

:08:43. > :08:50.They will operate machinery at the back of the plant.

:08:51. > :08:54.The idea is they can do it in a controlled environment

:08:55. > :08:58.with a quieter environment, with one-to-one training.

:08:59. > :09:01.So ideally when they get to the plant currently they can get

:09:02. > :09:15.You can work with computers, work with software. Stay clean,

:09:16. > :09:24.definitely. That part of the job is getting dirty. Personally, I like

:09:25. > :09:28.that. That's what I like. Apprentices will also have to get

:09:29. > :09:31.used to a time critical industry. Pat Smith on this production line

:09:32. > :09:37.can be on a card in the Nissan factory in just 15 minutes. I was

:09:38. > :09:42.going to go to Newcastle University. I have a place, that I came across

:09:43. > :09:48.the opportunity of an apprenticeship. I thought I would

:09:49. > :09:49.get the vocational experience, the qualification and get paid at the

:09:50. > :09:51.same time. The new facility will support around

:09:52. > :09:53.100 apprentices a year, keeping us a step ahead

:09:54. > :09:56.of the robots - at least for now. For the first time in eight years,

:09:57. > :09:59.Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service is taking on a batch

:10:00. > :10:02.of new full-time fire fighters. Until this year, the service has

:10:03. > :10:04.trained only part-time recruits But now there are new

:10:05. > :10:07.full-time opportunities created by a large number

:10:08. > :10:09.of retiring staff. Megan Paterson went to see

:10:10. > :10:20.the latest recruits in action. These are the basic drills every

:10:21. > :10:23.fire fighter learns at the start Confusing to the uninitiated eye,

:10:24. > :10:39.the new recruits have to learn fast. It's been intense, yeah. You

:10:40. > :10:42.definitely get tested mentally and physically. They won the best and

:10:43. > :10:45.you have to deliver that. We're going home tired, but it's worth it.

:10:46. > :10:48.From drills in the yard to intensive theory in the classroom,

:10:49. > :10:55.the training course builds in intensity as the weeks progress.

:10:56. > :10:59.Swift water rescue work, working with tides, hazardous materials,

:11:00. > :11:01.road traffic collisions. As well as those emergency response

:11:02. > :11:14.skills a major role for new recruits The modern-day firefighter does so

:11:15. > :11:18.much more than attend 999 calls. Community safety is really the

:11:19. > :11:24.fundamental element of what we're about now. Modern-day firefighter is

:11:25. > :11:28.a teacher. They go into schools, colleges and different organisations

:11:29. > :11:34.talking about not only fire safety, but safety on the roads.

:11:35. > :11:36.The opportunity to join the Fire Service here has been long

:11:37. > :11:44.I've always been an individual who likes to push myself. I'm passionate

:11:45. > :11:48.about things I like to do, like looking after the community. I've

:11:49. > :11:53.been a retained firefighter for 2.5 years in West Cumbria. Having that

:11:54. > :11:58.experience, my passion has grown even bigger. When this opportunity

:11:59. > :12:00.arose, I thought this is my chance. It's my calling, so I gave it

:12:01. > :12:01.everything I had. After weekly assessments

:12:02. > :12:02.and progress reviews, the new recruits will join watches

:12:03. > :12:07.by the summer. Plenty still to come

:12:08. > :12:13.on Thursday's Look North, including tonight's sports news

:12:14. > :12:15.from Jeff Brown. Can the young be persuaded

:12:16. > :12:25.to take up a sport already There is a trend towards cloudy

:12:26. > :12:29.conditions as we head to work the weekend. It's certainly not all bad

:12:30. > :12:38.news weather-wise. During the later for the full story.

:12:39. > :12:41.A Middlesbrough primary school has put up signs asking parents to put

:12:42. > :12:44.away their mobile phones and smile at their children when they pick

:12:45. > :12:47.The signs at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary

:12:48. > :12:50.School in Longlands say "greet your child with a smile not a mobile."

:12:51. > :12:53.The school says it's part of an idea to get families

:12:54. > :13:04.The reaction at the school gate seemed positive.

:13:05. > :13:11.Were you surprised when they went off? Islands, yeah. I think it's

:13:12. > :13:16.appropriate. When they come to pick their kids from school, they should

:13:17. > :13:17.be here to do that and talk to them about the day, not to be chatting on

:13:18. > :13:22.their phones. You know, it's wrong. More young people are being urged

:13:23. > :13:36.to take up the sport of bowling after a major investment

:13:37. > :13:37.in Darlington's last The Darlington Parks Bowling

:13:38. > :13:40.Association has received nearly ?65,000 from Sport England

:13:41. > :13:42.to improve facilities. Now they want a new generation

:13:43. > :13:45.to play - and it doesn't hurt the image of the game to reveal

:13:46. > :13:48.a certain Premier League football manager is a big fan of the sport,

:13:49. > :13:55.as Phil Chapman discovered. it's probably fair to say Bollen's

:13:56. > :13:59.always had a place at the more mature, genteel end of the spectrum.

:14:00. > :14:02.But with a new ground and a new lease of life, here in Darlington

:14:03. > :14:07.they're getting ready for a new, younger members. What we're after is

:14:08. > :14:13.retaining the members we've got, and adding to them by finding new

:14:14. > :14:19.members. The game of bowls can be played by any age group from nine to

:14:20. > :14:23.90, if you like. And the joys of bowling has even reached the top

:14:24. > :14:27.flight of the football world. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp recently

:14:28. > :14:38.visited his local club years after first being fascinated by bowling on

:14:39. > :14:43.TV. Let's play bowls. I have a sports interest of green cricket,

:14:44. > :14:50.next. That's too complicated. Karanka, if he wants to come along,

:14:51. > :14:57.he's welcome. Just get in touch. Ill be brilliant to get them down

:14:58. > :15:00.because if more people could see that they're interested in other

:15:01. > :15:05.sports other than their own, then it may bring them into the game and get

:15:06. > :15:12.them started younger. You can now earn a living from it. Paul Foster

:15:13. > :15:19.from Scotland won the world indoor Bowls championship, human ?55,000.

:15:20. > :15:23.The aim of the game is to get as many as your balls close to the jack

:15:24. > :15:30.from the opposition. Sometimes when things get rowdy, you might want to

:15:31. > :15:34.fire. Whatever their rage, after the new funding people can carry on

:15:35. > :15:42.bowling here for years to come. -- that age.

:15:43. > :15:48.Spot on, very good indeed. I don't think we are the target age for that

:15:49. > :15:56.recruitment. You can play at any cage. Yes, if the measles hold.

:15:57. > :15:58.Football to kick off. -- if the knees will hold.

:15:59. > :16:00.Middlesbrough are in FA Cup action this weekend.

:16:01. > :16:03.They take on Manchester City, at the Riverside, with a place

:16:04. > :16:07.But the heat has been on head coach Aitor Karanka in recent

:16:08. > :16:09.weeks, with Boro dropping into the Premier League

:16:10. > :16:12.The Spaniard, though, says he has the backing

:16:13. > :16:16.The Boro coach met the media today - a couple of days after meeting

:16:17. > :16:26.But Karanka says they've come through worse.

:16:27. > :16:33.The more difficult moment for me was when I arrived here. We lost three

:16:34. > :16:39.games, we drew one. He was the first one who told me he was confident.

:16:40. > :16:42.Since that day, he doesn't need to show me everyday because that day

:16:43. > :16:44.was the main day for me. Which, in the crazy world of

:16:45. > :16:48.football, is probably a good thing. And while some fans might want him

:16:49. > :17:00.out, Karanka thinks most of them The crowd has been brilliant since I

:17:01. > :17:07.arrived here. Sometimes I want more from everybody. From the players,

:17:08. > :17:13.from the crowd, from everybody. But the crowd, especially, are great in

:17:14. > :17:18.the bad moments. Last season we were at the top of the table and it was

:17:19. > :17:23.easier. But this season, in the bad moments, they were with us. I know

:17:24. > :17:24.they'll support us 100% next Saturday because they know how

:17:25. > :17:27.important this game is for us. Meanwhile, ahead of Saturday's game

:17:28. > :17:29.between Championship leaders Newcastle and play-off hopefuls

:17:30. > :17:31.Fulham, one of the Magpies' most revered ex-managers has

:17:32. > :17:33.been back on Tyneside. Kevin Keegan was in good voice too,

:17:34. > :17:36.recording a re-worked version of the 1982 England World Cup song -

:17:37. > :17:39.with learning-disabled athletes, due to compete at the Special

:17:40. > :17:41.Olympics in Sheffield. He's confident his old club will be

:17:42. > :17:54.playing Premier League It's so important that they get back

:17:55. > :17:59.in the Premier League. I think they'll do that this year, so win

:18:00. > :18:02.the league. It's tough, but it's a big enough club to carry it. It's

:18:03. > :18:06.got all this fantastic support, although I think there's a couple of

:18:07. > :18:10.Sunderland supporters amongst the slot! Is definitely at least one

:18:11. > :18:12.Newcastle, because he's got his shirt on.

:18:13. > :18:16.A secondary school in Tyne and Wear has become the latest to launch

:18:17. > :18:19.The hope is to identify and nurture talented athletes -

:18:20. > :18:21.at the same time, helping them fulfil their academic potential.

:18:22. > :18:23.Support will include mentoring and coaching, physiotherapy,

:18:24. > :18:25.the chance to work with elite athletes and, soon,

:18:26. > :18:35.One of the sporting celebrities at Thorp Academy in Ryton,

:18:36. > :18:37.near Gateshead, for last night's official launch couldn't have had

:18:38. > :18:43.Graeme Storm, who's been involved in a similar scholarship scheme

:18:44. > :18:45.at Dyke House College in his hometown of Hartlepool,

:18:46. > :18:48.beat Rory McIlroy in a play-off at the South African Open

:18:49. > :18:50.to claim his first European Tour victory since 2007.

:18:51. > :19:03.Double Olympic medal-winning swimmer Nick Gillingham retired

:19:04. > :19:09.From a personal point of view, I've got no education to fall back on.

:19:10. > :19:14.Golf is my life and I'm fortunate enough to have lived my life to do

:19:15. > :19:16.really, really well. Speaking to the kids, I know how hard it can be. I

:19:17. > :19:19.know that a plan B is always needed. Double Olympic medal-winning

:19:20. > :19:20.swimmer Nick Gillingham retired just when the lottery funding which

:19:21. > :19:23.has transformed Great Britain's He'll help roll out Thorp's

:19:24. > :19:35.swimming programme - Those wanting to pursue a sporting

:19:36. > :19:41.career can actually have a balance between a sporting life and the

:19:42. > :19:45.academic life. If you were to look outside of schools like this, then

:19:46. > :19:52.it's really the public schools that provide that. I'm really genuinely

:19:53. > :19:59.excited to be involved. How inspiring is it to hear likewise

:20:00. > :20:04.like this? It's really inspiring. If we keep hard at it, we will achieve

:20:05. > :20:06.our goals eventually. It is positive because I'm going to stay for sixth

:20:07. > :20:10.form. It means I can progress and when Adam and.

:20:11. > :20:12.The Elite Performer Programme at a soon to be re-furbished Thorp

:20:13. > :20:15.will also provide football coaching, offered by a small team

:20:16. > :20:19.of ex-professional players well known to Boro and Sunderland fans.

:20:20. > :20:25.It's something that I enjoy, I wake up in the morning and the first

:20:26. > :20:28.thing I look forward to do is coaching. And hopefully developing

:20:29. > :20:32.young people. We want them to aspire to go to the top spot in

:20:33. > :20:36.universities in the country once they have done their GCSEs and

:20:37. > :20:39.A-levels, so the academic side has to be working for them.

:20:40. > :20:42.Cricket fans in the region have thrown their support behind Durham,

:20:43. > :20:43.despite the club's relegation and points deduction -

:20:44. > :20:46.that was the ECB's punishment in return for a financial bailout

:20:47. > :20:53.But membership, at this stage of the year, is up 5%.

:20:54. > :20:58.And, while a lot are new members trying to do their bit to help

:20:59. > :21:03.the club, a number of lapsed members have re-joined, too.

:21:04. > :21:11.Now to what scientists hope will be a giant leap for mankind

:21:12. > :21:14.A spectacular event taking place in Durham right now is marking

:21:15. > :21:17.the official opening of an ?11.5 million university

:21:18. > :21:19.building, which will house some of the world's greatest scientists.

:21:20. > :21:21.Their mission is to unravel some of the greatest

:21:22. > :21:27.Our reporter, Sharon Barbour, is there - and has just

:21:28. > :21:42.Wink-macro Helio outside the garden centre For Fundamental Physics at

:21:43. > :21:46.Durham University. In a moment we're going to speak to a world-renowned

:21:47. > :21:49.architect who has just flown in from New York. First, let's find out

:21:50. > :21:56.about what this building is going to be doing. I'm joined by a

:21:57. > :22:00.cosmologist. Tell me why it's so exciting to have this building here.

:22:01. > :22:03.I had the privilege of working at Durham University for 30 years. I

:22:04. > :22:13.can say without hesitation this is the most exciting day in 30 years.

:22:14. > :22:17.We're opening a wonderful new building. All 150 astronomers in

:22:18. > :22:24.this university will be under one roof. Here there is nothing more or

:22:25. > :22:27.nothing less than trying to understand how the universe works,

:22:28. > :22:33.how the universe came to be in the first place, but as the universe

:22:34. > :22:37.contain, how does it evolve, where two galaxies and eventually stars,

:22:38. > :22:43.planets and one-day us come from? The big questions that we try to

:22:44. > :22:46.answer as well as we can inside this wonderful new building. Huge

:22:47. > :22:51.question is, indeed. Now the question for you was to create a

:22:52. > :22:55.building. Tell us what you've done with the building? I wanted to

:22:56. > :23:00.create a building that belongs to the traditions of Durham. It has the

:23:01. > :23:06.best cathedral in the world. A building that is robust, but also

:23:07. > :23:10.soft. It has the beauty of Durham. Scholars and students will be

:23:11. > :23:13.spending nights here, so I wanted to make it not an institutional

:23:14. > :23:17.building, but really a home with wood, one materials, with the

:23:18. > :23:27.pleasure and joy of being in the world of the intellect. -- warm

:23:28. > :23:32.materials. It's really to have a building for people to enjoy being

:23:33. > :23:36.here at this great university. It's such an honour, because you are such

:23:37. > :23:40.a famous architect. But there's a light display which is just about to

:23:41. > :23:56.kick off to mark this opening tonight here at Durham University.

:23:57. > :24:07.This display is being designed by Ross Ashton, who also designed

:24:08. > :24:12.Lumiere. It begins with the 18th-century County Durham

:24:13. > :24:15.astronomer Thomas Wright, because he was the first person, he's from

:24:16. > :24:16.Durham, here in the north-east, and he was the first person to shape the

:24:17. > :24:31.Milky Way. -- Thomas Ryde. For now, back to you

:24:32. > :24:36.in the studio. It is looking good.

:24:37. > :24:43.The nearest we have two scientist is Paul with his fancy satellite.

:24:44. > :24:49.The weather does obey the laws of physics. There is a distinctly

:24:50. > :24:52.springlike fealty the weather at the moment, as shown in your weather

:24:53. > :24:57.pictures. Some lovely daffodils on the Solway Coast in Cumbria, thanks

:24:58. > :25:02.to Brian for that one. Moving east, the graph is blowing in that gusty

:25:03. > :25:05.wind earlier in the day on the coast of South Shields. -- the grass.

:25:06. > :25:14.Finally, some lovely evening colours looking towards was brewery. A lot

:25:15. > :25:17.more cloud. That picture was taken a few days ago, but it sets the scene

:25:18. > :25:22.for the next few days. We are expecting more clout in the sky.

:25:23. > :25:28.There will be something, not huge amounts. -- more clout. A chilly

:25:29. > :25:33.night to get out of the way first, because we have those lovely blue

:25:34. > :25:37.skies today and clear skies as we had the evening. For a good part of

:25:38. > :25:47.the might as well. Any heat that has built up through the day radiates

:25:48. > :25:50.away. Cold enough for a touch of ground frost. One or two mist

:25:51. > :25:55.patches in the valley bottoms of the Headingley tomorrow morning of. Wind

:25:56. > :26:04.daylight through the night. Most places. The dre -- thickening up

:26:05. > :26:08.over time from the West. It will bring spits and spots of rain and

:26:09. > :26:11.drizzle, which will become more widespread across Cumbria and the

:26:12. > :26:15.Scottish Borders later in the day. We're not expecting huge amounts of

:26:16. > :26:21.rain. Down in places, and certainly more cloud than there has been over

:26:22. > :26:24.the last couple of days. The winds light from a southerly direction,

:26:25. > :26:29.and we will see temperatures make it into the double figures. 10-11

:26:30. > :26:36.Celsius into the afternoon. That is the picture for tomorrow. The cold

:26:37. > :26:40.front followers into Saturday, bringing rain for a time. That

:26:41. > :26:44.begins to clear away, but it's followed fairly quickly by another

:26:45. > :26:46.front coming from the West into the second part of the weekend. This

:26:47. > :26:58.weather from spring and the frontier, a lot of clad in

:26:59. > :27:06.general. Patchy rain, but most places are dry for the bulk of the

:27:07. > :27:10.day. Double-figure temperatures to the weekend as well, even though

:27:11. > :27:15.that cloud is much thicker. Most of us will see rain for a time on

:27:16. > :27:19.Saturday, drier and writer from the north-west of the day goes on.

:27:20. > :27:24.Fairly cloudy skies on the whole. The heaviest of any rain in the

:27:25. > :27:28.West. Temperatures in two double figures and the winds are fairly

:27:29. > :27:29.light. You can keep up to date with the focus on your BBC local radio

:27:30. > :27:37.station. That's from us tonight, but we will

:27:38. > :28:26.be back for tonight's News at 10:30. Join us and if you can.

:28:27. > :28:28.Oh, the dragon. Dylan Thomas.

:28:29. > :28:30.Richard Burton. Barry Island.

:28:31. > :28:35.The River Shannon. We invented the submarine.
