:00:00. > :00:07.Tonight - still waiting for answers. had then we would not them.

:00:08. > :00:10.Families of loved ones who's organs were kept for years

:00:11. > :00:15.after their deaths say they still don't know.

:00:16. > :00:21.I'm going to raise it directly with the Prime Minister. After all, she

:00:22. > :00:26.was Home Secretary at the time that this happened. Somebody needs to

:00:27. > :00:27.take accountability and say there were few and take responsibility for

:00:28. > :00:28.it. A council defends its decision

:00:29. > :00:30.to invest millions of pounds of council tax payers money

:00:31. > :00:32.in a hotel. North Yorkshire Police target

:00:33. > :00:37.dangerous drier on our rural roads. Charlie and Bandit finish their

:00:38. > :00:44.charity walk along Hadrian's Wall. In football, there's

:00:45. > :00:46.an important weekend ahead Especially Hartlepool and Carlisle,

:00:47. > :00:53.whose Good Friday derby is make A North East MP says authorities had

:00:54. > :01:11.three chances to avoid A number of relatives

:01:12. > :01:19.across the region have discovered their loved ones organs

:01:20. > :01:21.and tissues were stored at South Tyneside Hospital for years

:01:22. > :01:23.without their knowledge. But South Shields MP

:01:24. > :01:28.Emma Lewell Buck says three national tissue audits over 20 years

:01:29. > :01:30.accidentally missed South Tyneside. Here's our news

:01:31. > :01:44.correspondent Mark Denten. November 1995, a young man has been

:01:45. > :01:49.found murdered close to the gates outside the Tyne Bridge. He had been

:01:50. > :01:56.on a night out. When he grew up, he was just a normal teenager. He was

:01:57. > :01:59.not overly good by any means, he enjoyed a can of lager and a type of

:02:00. > :02:04.thing and going out with his friends, but he was a kind-hearted

:02:05. > :02:08.boy. He would do anything for anybody. Elderly man was convicted

:02:09. > :02:14.of his murder, his mother is now going to the tragedy over again. He

:02:15. > :02:18.found out that his brain and windpipe were removed and kept a

:02:19. > :02:21.Tyneside hospital. At the latest case to emerge from an audit of

:02:22. > :02:28.missing body tissue. I think the lies that we have been told are

:02:29. > :02:35.horrendous. I just want now justice for my son. And also for people to

:02:36. > :02:40.be aware of what has happened. There are still families out there who

:02:41. > :02:45.haven't even been told. Today, a new development. The said Shields MP

:02:46. > :02:47.says she has been told by senior managers at south Tyneside hospital

:02:48. > :02:56.but three previous national tissue and Oregon audits have been carried

:02:57. > :03:00.out and didn't include south Tyneside hospital. There was an

:03:01. > :03:05.original inspection nationally. Though is another national

:03:06. > :03:08.inspection in 2006 when the tuning tissue act came into force. My

:03:09. > :03:14.understanding is there was another national audit in 2012 and it was in

:03:15. > :03:20.2014 under a routine Home Office inspection that this got picked up.

:03:21. > :03:25.These national audits missed out south Tyneside Hospital every time.

:03:26. > :03:28.The police say this is a live investigation with enquiries still

:03:29. > :03:32.very much active. Nobody at the hospital or the Home Office were

:03:33. > :03:43.A brilliant bold move or a complete waste of money?

:03:44. > :03:44.The differing views over Stockton Council's decision

:03:45. > :03:48.to borrow ?17 million to build a new Hampton by Hilton hotel clouds

:03:49. > :03:54.Final approval has now been granted on the development.

:03:55. > :03:57.The company will run the hotel and pay the council back

:03:58. > :04:07.Built on a scrappy car-park, the council believes the hotel

:04:08. > :04:11.And it's part of wider plans to regenerate the town centre.

:04:12. > :04:14.But critics point to the empty Swallow Hotel,

:04:15. > :04:18.They say it's become a physical symbol

:04:19. > :04:21.of failure and one which towers over the High Street.

:04:22. > :04:25.It's a massive amount of money and it's

:04:26. > :04:27.going to take us 35 years to pay it back.

:04:28. > :04:31.If it was a really good deal, if it was a sound business case, I'm

:04:32. > :04:34.sure that a business would be running along to do it.

:04:35. > :04:39.But actually, I think this is a risk.

:04:40. > :04:41.It's a risk with a pot of money that pays for

:04:42. > :04:43.schools, it pays for the care for our elderly.

:04:44. > :04:47.I think councillors shouldn't be risking public money.

:04:48. > :04:49.Stockton Council says it's delighted a world-renowned company

:04:50. > :04:53.It says industry experts say there is a real shortage

:04:54. > :04:55.of hotels in the area, so it is needed.

:04:56. > :05:00.I understand people's concerns, but this money is not coming

:05:01. > :05:04.It's not coming out of the money that we spend on

:05:05. > :05:11.We can only spend it on projects like this.

:05:12. > :05:13.But as the profits come through from this hotel,

:05:14. > :05:15.which they will do, we

:05:16. > :05:18.believe they will do, that money can then be recycled.

:05:19. > :05:21.The deal with Hilton Hotel will, it says, make the council a quarter

:05:22. > :05:26.of a million pounds profit a year and create 100 jobs.

:05:27. > :05:28.Building work will start here on site in the

:05:29. > :05:33.summer and the hotel is due to open by the end of 2018.

:05:34. > :05:39.It says the Hilton would have to be one of the worst

:05:40. > :05:42.performing hotels in Teesside to not make a profit out of the deal.

:05:43. > :05:51.A man's been sent to prison for causing the death by dangerous

:05:52. > :05:56.Brandon Morris was a passenger in a Ford Focus, which crashed

:05:57. > :06:00.while being followed by police in Middlesbrough last month.

:06:01. > :06:05.29-year-old Lee Harvey was sentenced to seven years eight months.

:06:06. > :06:08.An investigation has begun after one person died in a house

:06:09. > :06:11.Fire crews were called to the house on Gregson Terrace

:06:12. > :06:15.Officers say the blaze is not suspicious.

:06:16. > :06:18.A former priest's been jailed for 17 years after being found guilty

:06:19. > :06:21.of sexually abusing a pupil at a Catholic boarding

:06:22. > :06:24.Father Michael Higginbottom, who's 74 and from West Farm Road

:06:25. > :06:26.in Newcastle, denied subjecting a teenage boy to repeated

:06:27. > :06:36.sexual abuse while he was a teacher in Lancashire.

:06:37. > :06:39.Workers on Virgin Trains East Coast are planning to stage a 48-hour

:06:40. > :06:42.strike later this month in a row about the role of guards.

:06:43. > :06:45.The RMT union says the walk out will begin on Friday the 28th of April -

:06:46. > :06:48.the same day as workers on Arriva Rail North stage

:06:49. > :06:55.a 24-hour strike in a row about new driver-only trains.

:06:56. > :06:59.The Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police has

:07:00. > :07:00.questioned the effectiveness of fixed speed cameras,

:07:01. > :07:04.as the force prepares to roll out a new weapon in the battle

:07:05. > :07:06.against motorists who drive too fast on rural roads.

:07:07. > :07:09.It's investing in a fleet of micro camera vans that will allow police

:07:10. > :07:11.to catch more people speeding through villages.

:07:12. > :07:18.A quiet street on the edge of Harrogate and the chosen spot to

:07:19. > :07:23.catch speeding motorists from new smaller vans.

:07:24. > :07:28.The police are here because of pressure from residents

:07:29. > :07:31.who say drivers are regularly breaking the 30 mph limit.

:07:32. > :07:33.Within minutes of arriving, local concerns

:07:34. > :07:43.The driver will receive a ?100 fine and three

:07:44. > :07:46.penalty points or the option of going on a speed awareness course.

:07:47. > :08:06.We are outside a park, sports centre down

:08:07. > :08:08.the road, there are children coming out of the houses

:08:09. > :08:12.Six of the new micro safety bands will join North Yorkshire's fleet.

:08:13. > :08:14.There will be a of 12 vehicles patrolling

:08:15. > :08:15.the County's network of

:08:16. > :08:19.North Yorkshire Police cameras have been on the county's roads

:08:20. > :08:29.catching motorists doing up to 80 miles an hour.

:08:30. > :08:31.This is about changing focus to suburban and rural areas

:08:32. > :08:35.where motorists might not expect to see a police officer and

:08:36. > :08:47.Fixed cameras are not something that will likely change soon.

:08:48. > :08:49.Fixed cameras are not as effective as people think.

:08:50. > :08:55.They slow down before and speed up afterwards.

:08:56. > :09:05.This method of employing fans in the we can make people constantly aware

:09:06. > :09:06.of the speed that they are going and the impact that they have on the

:09:07. > :09:07.road. The camera can see 800

:09:08. > :09:09.metres down the road, which makes these units a

:09:10. > :09:11.very useful safety tool Now, it's a decision

:09:12. > :09:14.traders say is deterring Anyone who's driven

:09:15. > :09:17.to the North Yorkshire town of Richmond will know you can park

:09:18. > :09:20.for two hours free of charge After that, you've got to move

:09:21. > :09:23.or risk being fined. Now businesses are calling

:09:24. > :09:25.on the county council It's an historic town that bosts

:09:26. > :09:32.independent shops and with a display But Heather Jones,

:09:33. > :09:42.who owns a dress shop in Richmond, believes

:09:43. > :09:44.two hours is too short. A time limit which she says

:09:45. > :09:48.is deterring shoppers. They want time to look

:09:49. > :09:50.and suddenly, they are looking at their watches again

:09:51. > :09:53.and ssaying, "Oh, I'm really sorry. So, I've got dresses left out

:09:54. > :09:58.and I have lost a sale. Independent businesses cannot

:09:59. > :10:03.afford to lose sales. Like in many towns and

:10:04. > :10:05.cities, parking here has There's not many places,

:10:06. > :10:08.though, that still But does that limit

:10:09. > :10:15.what people can and can't do? There are a lot of lovely

:10:16. > :10:18.things here to see, but if you've only got two hours, I don't

:10:19. > :10:21.think it really gives us Especially visitors, you know,

:10:22. > :10:26.when the signs aren't clear. I've spoken to a lot that

:10:27. > :10:29.have come out for the day and had the day spoiled, really,

:10:30. > :10:31.by getting a ticket. In a statement, North Yorkshire

:10:32. > :10:34.County Council said the two hour limit accommodates

:10:35. > :10:35.general requirements, while generating a sufficient

:10:36. > :10:37.turnover of spaces. Those wanting to make

:10:38. > :10:39.extended stays can park in This town centre tattoo

:10:40. > :10:43.parlour says it's We've spent a good couple of hours

:10:44. > :10:53.setting them at ease, going through designs, and then they are off

:10:54. > :10:56.to their car, to move the car. They are going to the big urban

:10:57. > :11:00.castles of the retail For the record, to film our story

:11:01. > :11:05.took an hour and 52 minutes. With no time for shopping, though,

:11:06. > :11:08.or a trip to the castle. Phil Connell, BBC

:11:09. > :11:12.Look North, Richmond. You're watching Thursday's Look

:11:13. > :11:14.North, plenty more coming up. The Chihuahua,

:11:15. > :11:23.weighing just a pound, who was rescued from a puppy farm

:11:24. > :11:32.by a Durham woman. Weather-wise call on the Easter

:11:33. > :11:36.weekend is not looking as warm as last weekend, but there will be some

:11:37. > :11:39.rain and sunshine. Join me later for the full story.

:11:40. > :11:42.Now, local elections are coming up on the 4th of May

:11:43. > :11:44.and if you haven't registered to vote, you can still do

:11:45. > :11:46.it on the Government website until midnight.

:11:47. > :11:49.Over the next couple of weeks, we'll be taking a look

:11:50. > :11:51.at the elections across all parts of our region.

:11:52. > :11:53.And tonight, we're looking at the battle for control

:11:54. > :12:01.Trudy Lynn Harrison is duly elected as Member of Parliament for the

:12:02. > :12:11.Labour is already on the back foot in Cumbria

:12:12. > :12:12.after a disappointing by-election defeat in Copeland.

:12:13. > :12:14.It's the largest party here on the county council,

:12:15. > :12:16.but is the leader worried about its position?

:12:17. > :12:19.Obviously, I am aware of the National opinion polls and we

:12:20. > :12:21.have recently lost a by-election in Copeland of course.

:12:22. > :12:23.So, obviously, that does concern me, but we will do

:12:24. > :12:26.the best we can and hope that people will continue to support us.

:12:27. > :12:30.Despite their high poll ratings, the party has

:12:31. > :12:32.inflicted major cuts on councils while in Government.

:12:33. > :12:35.There was a lot of fat at the county council, there

:12:36. > :12:45.was a lot of wastage, there is still in a lot of wastage.

:12:46. > :12:48.was a lot of wastage, there is still a lot of wastage.

:12:49. > :12:50.This is public money, so, I think, you know...

:12:51. > :12:57.I think the people of Cumbria want to

:12:58. > :12:59.get the message out there that a Conservative-led administration

:13:00. > :13:01.will spend their hard earned council tax wisely, will deliver good

:13:02. > :13:04.The Lib Dems are currently in coalition with

:13:05. > :13:07.Labour on the council and could end up as kingmakers once again.

:13:08. > :13:09.The important thing is to consider which

:13:10. > :13:12.party can we work with to get the best deal for the residents of

:13:13. > :13:18.So, it won't just be, "Oh, yes, we will join with you."

:13:19. > :13:20.It will be, "Actually, these are the things

:13:21. > :13:34.And let's come to a negotiated agreement on those things."

:13:35. > :13:36.So, what about the parties looking to get their first county council?

:13:37. > :13:39.Yes, we have a really excellent local

:13:40. > :13:45.I think we've lost our unique selling point in Brexit.

:13:46. > :13:50.But, like I say, we have a wonderful manifesto and I think our new unique

:13:51. > :13:52.selling point on a local basis is that we advocate local

:13:53. > :13:56.And the Greens are fielding more candidates than either

:13:57. > :14:00.We have seen what one Green party MP can do

:14:01. > :14:03.in Parliament and what a difference that makes, so one Green county

:14:04. > :14:10.A woman from County Durham has travelled hundreds of miles to Wales

:14:11. > :14:12.to rescue a Chihuahua from certain death at the hands of

:14:13. > :14:16.Brie the Chi had outlived her usefulness and was destined

:14:17. > :14:20.for a horrible end in a slurry pit, but now she has a new life in some

:14:21. > :14:28.more favourable company, as Damian O'Neil reports.

:14:29. > :14:30.Like many other owners of this breed, Claire

:14:31. > :14:37.She spotted Brie on an animal charity's website shortly

:14:38. > :14:40.after the dog had been saved from a sticky end and drove straight

:14:41. > :14:55.She was raised in a puppy farm in Wales where she had two litters by

:14:56. > :15:02.caesarean section because she is very small.

:15:03. > :15:04.The last litter she had, the vet actually spayed her without

:15:05. > :15:07.She was classed as useless, basically.

:15:08. > :15:13.What were they planning to do with her?

:15:14. > :15:16.When the dogs are classed as useless, they

:15:17. > :15:33.They literally just throw them in the slurry pit on the farm.

:15:34. > :15:41.He sent me messages saying he wants to

:15:42. > :15:43.adopt her but he has to choose another dog.

:15:44. > :15:53.Here's the reason why I got them in the first

:15:54. > :15:56.You can feel her trembling all the time.

:15:57. > :16:07.It is hard to imagine anything more vulnerable and

:16:08. > :16:08.defenceless and the idea of flinging her into

:16:09. > :16:10.a slurry pit to drown is

:16:11. > :16:13.It makes you wonder if she realises just how lucky

:16:14. > :16:20.She looks really settled in now. Settled in for the sport as well.

:16:21. > :16:24.First tonight, news that Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson has

:16:25. > :16:27.lost his appeal against the red card he picked up against

:16:28. > :16:31.The Swede was sent off for this tackle on United's Ander Herrera.

:16:32. > :16:32.He'll now miss the next three games, starting

:16:33. > :16:36.Better news for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford -

:16:37. > :16:38.nominated for PFA Young Player of the Year.

:16:39. > :16:40.And for former Sunderland Ladies' stars Lucy Bronze and Jill Scott,

:16:41. > :16:56.who're in the running to be Women's Footballer of the Year.

:16:57. > :16:59.It could be a very happy Easter and happy birthday for Newcastle

:17:00. > :17:01.boss Rafa Benitez, who's 57 on Sunday.

:17:02. > :17:03.If the Magpies beat Leeds tomorrow and Ipswich on Monday,

:17:04. > :17:06.and other results go their way, they could effectively be promoted

:17:07. > :17:09.Striker Dwight Gayle won't play over the weekend.

:17:10. > :17:13.But Benitez isn't ruling him out for the rest of the campaign -

:17:14. > :17:16.The Spaniard wasn't a happy man after last week's defeat

:17:17. > :17:18.to Sheffield Wednesday, which should should serve

:17:19. > :17:21.as a warning to any players who think the job's already done.

:17:22. > :17:27.Like Wednesday, Gary Monk's Leeds are also fighting for promotion.

:17:28. > :17:34.We know that it is one game at a time. We know that I like the

:17:35. > :17:38.competition between players. Nobody can say I will play, because I was

:17:39. > :17:44.good. No, you have to keep being good, because if not, maybe someone

:17:45. > :17:47.will take possession. We have to give everything and try to win this

:17:48. > :17:50.It doesn't matter the name of the team.

:17:51. > :17:52.There's another big game in the region tomorrow,

:17:53. > :17:53.at the Northern Gas and Power Stadium,

:17:54. > :17:56.Hartlepool United against Carlisle United,

:17:57. > :17:58.north-east against north-west, but the closest either side will get

:17:59. > :18:06.And for both clubs, such a lot at stake.

:18:07. > :18:09.They both could do with a bit of help from above right now.

:18:10. > :18:13.Because it's hard to know which side is in greater need of the points.

:18:14. > :18:16.Pools - fighting for their League lives, and hoping to somehow stay

:18:17. > :18:20.Or Carlisle - up at the top for so long, but now scrambling

:18:21. > :18:28.Defeat for either side could just tip them over the edge.

:18:29. > :18:34.No one is going to deny it's a big game, but as I said, every game we

:18:35. > :18:38.play is a big one, because what's at stake. The club has big plans and we

:18:39. > :18:43.need to be safe and to implement them, we need to be in the league.

:18:44. > :18:48.Everybody is going to be trying their best to achieve that. We look

:18:49. > :18:52.at how we started the season. We are disappointed that we haven't kicked

:18:53. > :18:58.on after Christmas. We lost key players at key times and lost a lot

:18:59. > :19:01.of goals in the January window. It was disappointing, but again, if we

:19:02. > :19:04.just make sure we get in the play-off, after that, it's who plays

:19:05. > :19:07.Carlisle's slump since New Year has been dramatic -

:19:08. > :19:09.from automatic promotion contenders to play-off hopefuls.

:19:10. > :19:12.And while Dave Jones only took charge of Pools in January,

:19:13. > :19:14.he's hoping his players' experience of the relegation battle

:19:15. > :19:25.A lot of them had been in the situation before around the club.

:19:26. > :19:30.The last 67 years have been the same situation. They know it, they

:19:31. > :19:35.probably know it better than the coaches, really. We rely on them to

:19:36. > :19:38.be. They know what's at stake and I'm sure there isn't one person in

:19:39. > :19:42.this football club that won't be giving everything to maintain out.

:19:43. > :19:47.Its life changing now at the bottom end of the Football League. The

:19:48. > :19:58.Derby will bring a lot of the hamstring Son them. You can follow

:19:59. > :19:59.that patch on BBC Two BBC Cumbria. -- match.

:20:00. > :20:03.Confirmation today that Darlington will not be allowed to take part
