:00:40. > :00:44.In this area's change from Red to Blue is a remarkable reality.

:00:45. > :00:47.I'm absolutely delighted to be able to be here with the new member

:00:48. > :00:48.of Parliament for Copeland, Trudy Harrison.

:00:49. > :01:03.This is an astounding victory for the Conservative Party,

:01:04. > :01:11.Campaigners fought on many issues here, but these two

:01:12. > :01:14.were perhaps the most divisive - the protection of services

:01:15. > :01:17.at the West Cumberland Hospital, and the future of nuclear power

:01:18. > :01:23.For many voters, Jeremy Corbyn's previous views

:01:24. > :01:27.The Corbyn factor was a reason for defeat.

:01:28. > :01:30.But those in his campaign team say that's not the case.

:01:31. > :01:33.Jeremy Corbyn's been the leader of the Labour Party

:01:34. > :01:38.And Jeremy didn't certainly, as far as I was concerned,

:01:39. > :01:42.Jeremy didn't crop up on the doorstep.

:01:43. > :01:46.Whether it's the leader's stance, or disaffection

:01:47. > :01:49.with the Labour Party as a whole, the appetite for change was made

:01:50. > :01:53.The challenge for Trudy Harrison is to meet the electorate's

:01:54. > :02:01.I'm really looking forward to getting on with the job.

:02:02. > :02:04.I'm very much looking forward to going down to London on Monday

:02:05. > :02:07.and making sure that we deliver on the plan that I've been pledging

:02:08. > :02:23.More than 1,000 people have been demonstrating in Morpeth

:02:24. > :02:25.about plans for a retail park and hundreds of new homes,

:02:26. > :02:27.on the site of the current Northumberland County

:02:28. > :02:30.Labour councillors insist the redevelopment will

:02:31. > :02:33.But protestors say it'll destroy the town's historic character.

:02:34. > :02:42.Here's our political correspondent, Luke Walton.

:02:43. > :02:45.They've long had Northumberland County Council on their doorstep.

:02:46. > :02:47.Today, the people of Morpeth came out in force to

:02:48. > :02:49.accuse that same local authority of threatening

:02:50. > :02:52.Their target - a multi-million pound scheme to redevelop

:02:53. > :02:55.The heart is being ripped out of Morpeth.

:02:56. > :03:02.All the shops will lose out if they put supermarkets.

:03:03. > :03:05.And my other big concern is putting a McDonald's opposite a school.

:03:06. > :03:22.We're on the verge of having 3,300 new houses built in this town.

:03:23. > :03:24.And the character of Morpeth as a market town will change

:03:25. > :03:29.These protesters say Morpeth's already had more than its fair

:03:30. > :03:31.share of development, with housing estates

:03:32. > :03:33.But Northumberland's Labour leadership see the proposals

:03:34. > :03:36.as part of a wider plan to boost regeneration.

:03:37. > :03:37.Northumberland Council wouldn't do an interview,

:03:38. > :03:40.application was active, but said all views would be

:03:41. > :03:44.It's previously argued that moving its HQ from Morpeth to a smaller,

:03:45. > :03:46.more efficient building in Ashington would save taxpayers' money

:03:47. > :03:50.Claims hotly contested by critics, who vowed to fight on.

:03:51. > :03:52.We'll take this to court, we'll fight it all the way.

:03:53. > :03:54.There's grounds why this should be refused.

:03:55. > :04:09.There's over 1,500 objections on the website against this.

:04:10. > :04:14.Over 1,000 people turned up today to show the strength of the feeling.

:04:15. > :04:22.With council elections also due in Northumberland this spring,

:04:23. > :04:25.this bitter planning dispute looks set to become a bruising

:04:26. > :04:33.An outbreak of avian flu has been found at a farm near Haltwhistle.

:04:34. > :04:35.Defra says a three kilometre protection zone has been

:04:36. > :04:44.The H5N8 virus was found in a flock of around 35 chickens.

:04:45. > :04:46.Plans to move consultant-led maternity services out

:04:47. > :04:49.of the West Cumberland hospital in Whitehaven were opposed by 85%

:04:54. > :04:58.NHS managers say recruitment problems mean a number of services,

:04:59. > :05:06.including maternity, would be better centralised,

:05:07. > :05:15.Pirelli's been given the go-ahead to expand its Carlisle factory,

:05:16. > :05:18.in a move the firm says will secure almost four thousand jobs.

:05:19. > :05:21.The tyre manufacturer is set to add a new extension to the plant,

:05:22. > :05:24.which will be used on tyres produced there to "cure" them -

:05:25. > :05:32.that's a process which gives the product its final shape.

:05:33. > :05:34.More than 100 teaching assistants held a protest outside

:05:35. > :05:37.They're concerned they'll face substantial pay cuts
