:02:56. > :03:01.Alistair Gallow walked into the Coral bookmakers shop

:03:02. > :03:08.He was carrying what appeared to be a sawn-off shotgun.

:03:09. > :03:11.It was a fake weapon, but the four people inside the shop

:03:18. > :03:24.The police duly arrived on the scene, and Gallow asked them

:05:20. > :05:21.to try and find out why he was missed in

:05:22. > :05:29.It's a largely preventable cancer that kills two women every day,

:05:30. > :05:34.but the uptake for cervical cancer screening is at a 19-year low.

:05:35. > :05:36.More than one in four women in the North East

:05:37. > :05:39.don't attend the tests - and that figure is even higher

:05:40. > :05:44.To try to reverse this trend, the country's first cervical cancer

:05:49. > :05:54.I was 27 when I got diagnosed with cervical cancer,

:06:01. > :06:05.Rachel Kershaw didn't for one moment think it

:06:06. > :06:07.would happen to her, but it did.

:06:08. > :06:11.She was young, healthy and busy, so she did not have a smear test

:06:12. > :06:13.when she should have, and by the time she did,

:06:14. > :06:19.I often wonder, you know, could all of this have been

:06:20. > :06:22.prevented if I'd have just gone and been on time with my cervical

:06:23. > :06:29.Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in women under 35,

:06:30. > :06:34.but cervical screening does prevent up to 75% of cases.

:06:35. > :06:38.I had my first one last year, and then every

:06:39. > :06:44.I think women should have it done a lot younger as well.

:06:45. > :06:46.If you get invited, you should always go.

:06:47. > :06:49.It's the same as a man with bowel cancer.

:06:50. > :06:52.I have a smear every two, three years.

:06:53. > :06:57.I've experienced it myself, so it was scary, but I got

:06:58. > :07:01.through it and had regular, you know, screening.

:07:02. > :07:04.You're not going to know if there's anything wrong, are you,

:07:05. > :07:06.if you're not going to go and get checked?

:07:07. > :07:09.Please, please, please, prevention, prevention, prevention!

:07:10. > :07:11.And that's the message the Cervix Savvy Roadshow is hoping

:07:12. > :07:15.to drive home in Newcastle, which has the lowest uptake

:07:16. > :07:19.of cervical screening in the north-east.

:07:20. > :07:23.Last year, more than 30% of women in Newcastle did not attend

:07:24. > :07:27.a cervical screening appointment when invited.

:07:28. > :07:32.That is around 22,500 women not having their smear test.

:07:33. > :07:37.And the figures or even worse for the 25-29 -year-old age bracket.

:07:38. > :07:41.More than 50% of women did not get tested.

:07:42. > :07:46.It is a worrying trend charity campaigners are trying to reverse.

:07:47. > :07:49.We want to support women through their concerns and encourage

:07:50. > :07:53.them that it is not something to be afraid of, and it is so important.

:07:54. > :07:57.Those few minutes could make all the difference,

:07:58. > :08:03.Rachel learned her lesson the hard way, but she hopes her traumatic

:08:04. > :08:07.experience will inspire other women to get screened.

:08:08. > :08:09.Don't put it off, just make the appointment.

:08:10. > :08:12.I know it is a little bit of an inconvenience,

:08:13. > :08:15.but what is that compared to, you know, what could happen

:08:16. > :08:25.It's not clear whether two Cumbrian foods protected by Europe will have

:08:26. > :08:31.Under the EU, both traditional Cumberland sausage and Lakeland

:08:32. > :08:34.Herdwick can only be marketed if they meet strict

:08:35. > :08:40.Some producers are worried this may not continue when the UK leaves.

:08:41. > :08:43.The Government says it'll work to ensure these products

:08:44. > :08:49.Onto this evening's football, and Sunderland are in ever-deeper

:08:50. > :08:51.relegation trouble after losing 2-0

:08:52. > :08:54.at Premier League champions Leicester City.

:08:55. > :08:58.They stay bottom of the table, without a goal in six games.

:08:59. > :09:01.The Black Cats' nearest rivals, Middlesbrough and Hull,

:09:02. > :09:06.There will be analysis of this game in Look North tomorrow.

:09:07. > :09:09.Meanwhile, in the National League tonight, York's mini-revival came

:09:10. > :09:14.to an end as they lost 2-0 at home to Bromley.

:09:15. > :09:19.Time for a look at the weather now with Paul Mooney.

:09:20. > :09:21.Can we expect this weather to last as we get closer

:09:22. > :09:32.I think it probably. High-pressure is in charge at the moment, so

:09:33. > :09:39.things will change very slowly. The cloud is increasing overnight, so

:09:40. > :09:41.clears belts disappearing. As clouds building, but that enough for the

:09:42. > :09:47.odd spot of rain and drizzle. Most places in the night dry and cloudy.

:09:48. > :09:51.That breeze will help temperatures to stop dropping any lower than six

:09:52. > :09:56.Celsius. Mostly cloudy start tomorrow, many places will stay

:09:57. > :10:01.cloudy through the day. Any sunny spells will be more fleeting than

:10:02. > :10:05.they have been over the last few days, but most places should stay

:10:06. > :10:09.dry. By the afternoon temperatures will peak at 12 Celsius, 54

:10:10. > :10:17.Fahrenheit. But that north-westerly breeze, it might feel chilly at

:10:18. > :10:22.times. High-pressure in charge, drifting slowly eastwards as we head

:10:23. > :10:25.through the next few days, and that will bring a few subtle changes. One

:10:26. > :10:29.of those changes is a change in wind direction from that chilly

:10:30. > :10:33.north-westerly to a milder and lighter south-westerly. As we head

:10:34. > :10:36.towards the end of the week, Wednesday and Thursday essentially

:10:37. > :10:43.dry, if fairly cloudy days. Temperatures peaking around about 12

:10:44. > :10:46.Celsius. On Friday and into the weekend, with that south-westerly

:10:47. > :10:51.breeze, we should start to see the cloud become a broken, more in the

:10:52. > :10:56.edging up to 13-14 C by the weekend. edging up to 13-14 C by the weekend.

:10:57. > :11:00.With clear skies, it might turn a bit chilly overnight. I believe you

:11:01. > :11:03.bit from the south, so we could get to 18 or higher on Sunday. Now the

:11:04. > :11:14.national focus. Good evening, things are looking good in the next

:11:15. > :11:17.few days, some pressure drifting in from the Atlantic, bringing some

:11:18. > :11:21.finance settled with it. Just some questions about the amount of cloud

:11:22. > :11:24.we will see under that. The cloud we saw the sea links gave rise to a

:11:25. > :11:28.lovely sunsets are many areas. This is the view from one of our weather

:11:29. > :11:32.watchers in Cornwall. Look at the tones in the sky in Warwickshire

:11:33. > :11:41.this evening. Here is the satellite sequence which

:11:42. > :11:43.shows it was pretty gloomy on the eastern side of England. Not much

:11:44. > :11:45.rain, but a good swathe of sunshine for many early on. In the

:11:46. > :11:49.north-west, showers. Gusty wind as well, northern Scotland seeing 60-70

:11:50. > :11:52.miles an hour overnight, rattling though showers through. Also some

:11:53. > :11:58.cloud toppling its way further sap. Keeping temperatures in the northern

:11:59. > :12:02.half at seven or eight. In the south with light winds and clear skies it

:12:03. > :12:03.will turn chilly, especially in rural spots.
