:00:18. > :00:22.A ban on visiting patients at the Cumberland Infirmary

:00:23. > :00:24.in Carlisle's been extended throughout this weekend

:00:25. > :00:26.as staff manage a serious outbreak of norovirus.

:00:27. > :00:28.They say 60 patients are affected and have banned

:00:29. > :00:32.The first indications that an outbreak of the norovirus might

:00:33. > :00:35.be imminent came early in the week and then the situation

:00:36. > :00:37.rapidly deteriorated, causing the hospital

:00:38. > :00:47.on Wednesday to reluctantly ban all but essential visits.

:00:48. > :00:56.A couple of reasons. One is the dignity of the patients. We have

:00:57. > :01:01.patients in there with diarrhoea and vomiting. It is not nice to be

:01:02. > :01:04.around people when they have this. There is also the protection of the

:01:05. > :01:07.patients because visitors may contribute to the spread of

:01:08. > :01:12.infection probably unwittingly. They did have a similar

:01:13. > :01:14.norovirus outbreak at the Infirmary two years ago

:01:15. > :01:16.but this time, touch wood, the hospital staff feel they have

:01:17. > :01:27.got on top of the situation quicker. It is less severe than a couple of

:01:28. > :01:31.years ago. We had under 60 patients in affected areas at the moment and

:01:32. > :01:35.it has been falling over the last couple of days since we introduced

:01:36. > :01:38.this measure. We will review everything on Monday and hopefully

:01:39. > :01:39.we will make a decision about whether we can ease restrictions in

:01:40. > :01:41.place currently. Police have launched a murder

:01:42. > :01:44.investigation in Hexham. They were called to the Studio Sport

:01:45. > :01:47.Bar on Priest-popple. A 32-year-old man was found

:01:48. > :01:50.with head injuries. A 25-year-old man's been arrested -

:01:51. > :01:56.on suspicion of murder. There's major disruption this

:01:57. > :01:58.weekend for motorists in Hartlepool. The eastbound carriageway

:01:59. > :02:02.of the A689 into the town will be closed until early tomorrow

:02:03. > :02:06.morning for re-surfacing. You can get to the village

:02:07. > :02:08.of Newton Bewley but all Hartlepool-bound

:02:09. > :02:13.traffic's being diverted. Celebrations have been taking place

:02:14. > :02:16.to mark Chinese New Year Events were held at

:02:17. > :02:21.Sunderland and Durham with Newcastle preparing to host

:02:22. > :02:23.the biggest celebration In Sunderland, the year

:02:24. > :02:35.of the rooster was marked by celebrations at the Library

:02:36. > :02:37.and Winter Gardens, with demonstrations of martial arts,

:02:38. > :02:39.arts and craft displays and dances featuring traditional

:02:40. > :02:49.animal costumes. We are doing a Lion dance today

:02:50. > :02:57.which is one of them major celebration dances. Where did these

:02:58. > :03:01.come from and how do they feed into the celebrations? The Lion dances

:03:02. > :03:06.from southern China but that dragon dances from the whole of China. In

:03:07. > :03:13.our traditional celebrations, we have the lion. We have the dragon

:03:14. > :03:18.team and the unicorn team. We all come out to celebrate that

:03:19. > :03:28.everyone's fortune and wealth. Chinese New Year is like a brand-new

:03:29. > :03:31.beginning. We have a good ear and good health.

:03:32. > :03:35.It was a similar story in Durham, where another lion dance

:03:36. > :03:46.That is a flavour of some of the celebrations but in Newcastle,

:03:47. > :03:50.preparations are underway for the celebrations tomorrow.

:03:51. > :03:53.On to the football now - starting with the action from the FA

:03:54. > :03:58.Cup, where there was a shock exit for Newcastle.

:03:59. > :04:00.The Toon humbled by a 3-0 defeat at League One strugglers Oxford.

:04:01. > :04:03.At the Riverside though - Middlesbrough proved too strong

:04:04. > :04:05.for lowly Accrington Stanley running out winners by 1-0.

:04:06. > :04:08.In League Two - Carlisle conceded a late equaliser to draw one each

:04:09. > :04:11.Hartlepool were beaten 3-1 at Newport County.

:04:12. > :04:14.In the National League - York played out a goalless

:04:15. > :04:19.But Gateshead were beaten 2-1 at Torquay And in

:04:20. > :04:26.the Scottish League Two - Berwick went down 2-1 at Montrose.

:04:27. > :04:34.Let us get the weather prospects now. Good evening.

:04:35. > :04:40.We have variable amounts of cloud overnight and some showers and some

:04:41. > :04:48.of those can be heavy and wintry. Clever spells and that will enable

:04:49. > :04:53.frost to enable ice to form. Surface water hanging around. Temperatures

:04:54. > :05:01.tomorrow morning, we have variable tomorrow morning, we have variable

:05:02. > :05:03.amounts of cloud. We will see some rain.

:05:04. > :05:06.That's it, we're back tomorrow night, and all the region's
