:00:56. > :00:57.a report on rape trials which aims to improve understanding between

:01:05. > :01:06.observed by volunteer panellists trained to look at how

:01:51. > :01:57.This ground in North Shields has been staging the Hadrian's cup,

:01:58. > :01:59.a tournament between six gay friendly

:02:00. > :02:09.Rugby is very much a sport for everybody.

:02:10. > :02:13.We welcome people who are gay, straight or anybody else, wherever

:02:14. > :02:16.you have played for the last five, ten years or if you

:02:17. > :02:18.have never picked up a rugby ball in your life.

:02:19. > :02:20.The weekend tournament is being staged by

:02:21. > :02:23.Newcastle Ravens, a team made up of both gay and straight players.

:02:24. > :02:25.The club was launched here 11 years ago,

:02:26. > :02:32.I was always on the back burner from sport and a little

:02:33. > :02:37.Fantastic opportunity and a great team to for.

:02:38. > :02:40.The weekend event was also supported by Northumbria police as part of

:02:41. > :02:46.There are perceptions in some areas of society that certain sports

:02:47. > :02:52.But thankfully those perceptions are diminishing year-on-year.

:02:53. > :02:54.And an event like today where there are teams from

:02:55. > :02:57.right across the UK and Ireland coming here, it really demonstrates

:02:58. > :03:16.It is hoped the tournament will encourage more gay people to

:03:17. > :03:18.try rugby, a sport where everyone is welcome.

:03:19. > :03:20.Family and friends - and a sell-out crowd -

:03:21. > :03:23.will pack the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle tonight for a special

:03:24. > :03:24.tribute to the Geordie entertainer Brendan Healy.

:03:25. > :03:27.Brendan passed away a year ago, but his sister Kathie,

:03:28. > :03:29.and his four children, will be among the cast of star

:03:30. > :03:32.performers this evening, as Jim Knight reports.

:03:33. > :03:34.I left my job, you know, at the helium balloon factory.

:03:35. > :03:49.Everyone knew that the Tyne Theatre was Brendan's spiritual home.

:03:50. > :03:52.It was perhaps only fitting that this special variety night in

:03:53. > :03:55.his honour should happen on the very stage he graced so many times.

:03:56. > :03:58.And that this show should be performed

:03:59. > :04:08.Everybody involved is his friend, the crew, his dancers and the three

:04:09. > :04:11.boys are all in the entertainment industry, his youngest

:04:12. > :04:14.is a stand-up comic, his second son is a singer and

:04:15. > :04:16.his eldest son is a guitarist in a rock band.

:04:17. > :04:18.I don't know what people are expecting.

:04:19. > :04:24.He isn't here to guide it, which is what we are all saying.

:04:25. > :04:27.It is a mixture and it will have a feeling of a Brendan show.

:04:28. > :04:31.It won't be a Brendan show, but it will have the feel of that.

:04:32. > :04:34.In a weird way you will let him make a couple of appearances,

:04:35. > :04:37.I can't really tell you how it is going

:04:38. > :04:39.to happen but he will definitely be present.

:04:40. > :04:54.Just one major sports event in the region this afternoon -

:04:55. > :04:57.and a crowd of over 7,500 enjoyed Newcastle Falcons staging a great

:04:58. > :04:59.comeback at Kingston Park - to run out winners over

:05:28. > :05:28.with rain sinking slowly to the south-east.

:05:29. > :05:31.Nothing too heavy and persistent, but a very cloudy night.

:05:32. > :05:33.Mist and hill fog forming as well, with temperatures only down

:05:34. > :05:38.Cloudy and misty and a murky start to the day but a strong

:05:39. > :05:41.westerly wind will develop and if we do manage to see any

:05:42. > :05:42.breaks, any sunshine, temperatures might feel

:05:43. > :05:57.We do like orange. That is all so far. I am back at around 20 past

:06:35. > :06:43.clouds have been -- the skies have been cloudy. This will continue as
