:00:25. > :00:31.It was business as usual today on the region's rail network

:00:32. > :00:36.but tomorrow thousands of passengers are facing delays and disruption.

:00:37. > :00:40.The strike's over plans by Northern to bring in driver-only operated

:00:41. > :00:44.trains with no conductor to open or close doors.

:00:45. > :00:47.Rail bosses say training will be given but the unions believe

:00:48. > :00:51.We believe that having a second person on all trains provides

:00:52. > :00:54.assurances to the travelling public and it's an additional safety

:00:55. > :00:57.measure in the event that the driver becomes incapacitated.

:00:58. > :00:59.We put safety at the heart of everything we do.

:01:00. > :01:04.The independent rail regulator has indicated that this is as safe

:01:05. > :01:09.This isn't about who opens or closes doors, this

:01:10. > :01:12.is about giving our customers what they want, which is access

:01:13. > :01:15.to our people at times that matter to them.

:01:16. > :01:19.The 24-hour rail strike starts at midnight with unions predicting

:01:20. > :01:25.To ease problems, around 300 replacement buses

:01:26. > :01:30.Today at Thornaby station, passengers

:01:31. > :01:35.Buses take longer than trains to get from one station

:01:36. > :01:37.to another so there will be a lot of disruption.

:01:38. > :01:40.I think it's good to have a conductor on the trains

:01:41. > :01:43.coming up and down, especially when you've got a young daughter.

:01:44. > :01:47.Northern say a revised timetable will operate tomorrow

:01:48. > :01:51.but they have advised passengers to plan their journeys carefully.

:01:52. > :01:55.To lessen disruption they say those with a valid ticket will be

:01:56. > :02:04.?2 billion extra earmarked for social care in the Budget isn't

:02:05. > :02:07.enough to deal with the problem of looking after the elderly

:02:08. > :02:13.Ministers say they're providing resources to help ease

:02:14. > :02:15.pressure on the NHS - they've also allowed councils

:02:16. > :02:16.to raise more money from council tax.

:02:17. > :02:19.But Tyneside MP Nick Brown told BBC's Sunday Politics

:02:20. > :02:26.The scale of the problem is much larger than the general

:02:27. > :02:32.I'm not sure what the distribution arrangements will be for that money

:02:33. > :02:36.but the need for social care and the local government tax space

:02:37. > :02:40.which will have to bear the brunt of this are not evenly spread

:02:41. > :02:45.and so for authorities like urban ones in the north-east,

:02:46. > :02:50.they will end up with more to do and not the money to do it.

:02:51. > :02:53.There clearly is an issue with social care in this country.

:02:54. > :02:57.Over a million people rely on that and I think the money the government

:02:58. > :03:06.Police are looking for a man in a hoodie after 60 cars were damaged

:03:07. > :03:11.The police say the vehicles, which were parked in the Springwell

:03:12. > :03:14.and Grindon areas of the city, were all scratched with a key

:03:15. > :03:18.Extra patrols are being carried out in the area.

:03:19. > :03:21.A radar gun's been bought for volunteers to use,

:03:22. > :03:24.to catch drivers speeding through Brampton in Cumbria.

:03:31. > :03:36.Visitors to York's Art Gallery were warned they may find

:03:47. > :03:53.We're all used to seeing the human form in all its glory in museums,

:03:57. > :04:01.Hats Off Drama is a theatre company that for 16 years has been working

:04:02. > :04:06.with life modelling and making theatre of the body for gallery

:04:07. > :04:12.We try and work with the gallery spaces to make them inclusive

:04:13. > :04:16.and open and to take the premise that everybody can make art and that

:04:17. > :04:19.gallery spaces need to be active spaces that are open for people

:04:20. > :04:22.to come and engage with the collections in ways that

:04:23. > :04:27.The project has been focusing on people's gender identity

:04:28. > :04:31.and all the issues they face that are particular for people

:04:32. > :04:34.It's 50 years since the decriminalisation

:04:35. > :04:37.of homosexuality in England and Wales, and museums and galleries

:04:38. > :04:40.across Britain are celebrating this with queer themed events

:04:41. > :04:43.and exhibitions, so we've got in early at York,

:04:44. > :04:45.this is one of the first ones for the year.

:04:46. > :04:48.And Nina will be back here at the gallery next Saturday

:04:49. > :04:50.and Sunday for a special life modelling performance
