:00:14. > :00:18.That's the warning from locals, whose loved ones are buried

:00:19. > :00:23.in the cemetery which has already flooded twice in recent years.

:00:24. > :00:26.St Peter's Church in Camerton lost a 20-yard strip of cemetery

:00:27. > :00:33.Rock defences costing ?100,000 were installed,

:00:34. > :00:36.but six years later, Storm Desmond not only

:00:37. > :00:39.damaged the defences, it altered the entire course

:00:40. > :00:43.of the river, making the graveyard even more vulnerable than before.

:00:44. > :00:48.Since 2015, this bank was washed out over here.

:00:49. > :00:51.The water is now heading down towards the church instead

:00:52. > :00:54.of meandering around and if nothing is done, it is going to cut

:00:55. > :00:58.through the graveyard like a hot knife going through butter.

:00:59. > :01:01.The cost of repairs is estimated at ?50,000 but the insurance

:01:02. > :01:07.The churchwarden says if the repairs aren't carried out, there may be

:01:08. > :01:14.In the 2009 floods, we had eight or nine graves washed out and we had

:01:15. > :01:20.unsavoury sights of bones and skulls and coffins floating down the river.

:01:21. > :01:27.The diocese is sympathetic but doesn't have deep pockets.

:01:28. > :01:29.Obviously people's homes and businesses and the infrastructure

:01:30. > :01:32.of the county need to take precedence and in any case,

:01:33. > :01:36.protecting this very low-lying land will never be completely successful.

:01:37. > :01:40.Each church is a legally separate body, so the diocese is providing

:01:41. > :01:46.The damaged defences are due to be reassesed soon,

:01:47. > :01:49.but unless the money can be found, St Peter's graveyard looks

:02:09. > :02:13.It happened at Newton on the Moor last night, when a van,

:02:14. > :02:15.which was heading south in the northbound lane,

:02:16. > :02:21.And a man's been charged with causing death by careless

:02:22. > :02:25.driving whilst over the alcohol limit, after a 91-year-old woman

:02:26. > :02:30.was hit by a car in Gosforth in Newcastle on Thursday night.

:02:31. > :02:33.A man's been arrested after a stand-off with police in Redcar

:02:34. > :02:38.Officers were called to Arthur Street last night,

:02:39. > :02:40.where a man had barricaded himself inside a property.

:02:41. > :02:44.It resulted in homes being evacuated because of a potential gas leak.

:02:45. > :02:47.But then door-to-door enquiries revealed potential hazardous

:02:48. > :02:50.substances in a neighbouring home, so bomb disposal experts

:02:51. > :02:56.It later emerged the items were not illegal or dangerous.

:02:57. > :02:59.People living in the Southbank area of York say their pavements

:03:00. > :03:02.have become an eyesore, after Virgin Media dug them up

:03:03. > :03:08.Now the company is having to employ a new contractor to put

:03:09. > :03:14.This award-winning suburb of York is better known for having the best

:03:15. > :03:18.It has hosted street parties and welcomed the Tour de France.

:03:19. > :03:21.And now, residents in the Bishopthorpe Road area

:03:22. > :03:26.Virgin Media has agreed to improve the pavements

:03:27. > :03:29.after a catalogue of complaints about its contract work.

:03:30. > :03:33.For instance, they had dug up a private road without permission,

:03:34. > :03:38.then I had information about an internet connection

:03:39. > :03:42.ironically being cut off and then a gas supply being cut off.

:03:43. > :03:47.After laying hundreds of metres of new internet cables,

:03:48. > :03:50.the contractors working for Virgin Media left uneven,

:03:51. > :03:54.broken paving stones, failing concrete and messy brickwork.

:03:55. > :03:59.They have a statutory duty to make sure that all the work is done

:04:00. > :04:02.properly and they should return and sort out the mess

:04:03. > :04:07.Rachael Maskell recently invited Virgin Media to inspect

:04:08. > :04:10.the work and as a result, the company agreed to hire

:04:11. > :04:14.a new contractor, saying it was aware of some concerns made

:04:15. > :04:17.by residents and had already begun to take steps forward

:04:18. > :04:22.So York residents can now rest assured that while improvements

:04:23. > :04:25.are being made to their internet highways, their pavements

:04:26. > :04:34.Football and Sunderland stay rooted to the bottom of the Premier League

:05:21. > :05:23.showers but we have some clear spells as we head through the early

:05:24. > :05:26.hours, meaning that temperatures will take a bit of a dip.
