:00:07. > :00:10.Welcome to Friday's Look North. Tonight: A dramatic increase in the
:00:10. > :00:15.numbers of people sleeping rough according to the charity workers
:00:15. > :00:20.who help them. A grieving mother's people stop
:00:20. > :00:27.help me maintain my son's graveyard. Her baby's funeral is tomorrow, but
:00:27. > :00:33.friends and family have to clean up the cemetery. We may well have
:00:33. > :00:37.asked them to let him sleep in a rubbish tip. It is Yorkshire's
:00:37. > :00:40.biggest annual music festival. Tramlines is back live and loud in
:00:41. > :00:45.Sheffield. It has been a great end to the date
:00:45. > :00:55.in Europe. I will be back with all the details for the weekend very
:00:55. > :00:55.
:00:55. > :00:58.shortly. First, we start with the disturbing
:00:58. > :01:03.evidence that more people are having to sleep rough because they
:01:03. > :01:07.have got nowhere to lead. In a moment we will hear about the
:01:07. > :01:12.situation in Leeds. That is from the chief executive of St George's
:01:12. > :01:20.Crypt. It is not just confined to the cities. A charity in north
:01:20. > :01:23.Derbyshire says it is busier than ever.
:01:23. > :01:28.I as congregations go, it is pretty informal, but it is definitely
:01:28. > :01:32.growing. The Church Army bus makes an evening stop outside
:01:32. > :01:36.Chesterfield town hall serving food and providing clothes for people
:01:36. > :01:44.who might go without. Did you find yourself losing your
:01:44. > :01:48.way? Yes, I lost my way. That was until I met these up and they
:01:48. > :01:52.changed me. Alan Park was homeless as a teenager and found his faith
:01:52. > :01:55.which transformed his life and inspired him to set up the project.
:01:55. > :02:01.A lot of people are losing accommodation through alcohol and
:02:01. > :02:06.drugs, but sometimes they use it because they have lost a job. They
:02:06. > :02:11.find themselves in difficult circumstances and they come to this
:02:11. > :02:15.project and we try to help them. When the bus first started pulling
:02:15. > :02:20.up outside here, it was attracting two or three people, but now that
:02:20. > :02:24.is more like 30 or 40 twice a week and Allen says particularly in the
:02:24. > :02:28.last couple of years demand has increased. The past three years
:02:28. > :02:32.have been worse. I got a job and got paid off during the recession.
:02:32. > :02:36.I started coming to the bus when I was on the streets and it has been
:02:36. > :02:40.a godsend. You would be surprised how many people there are on the
:02:40. > :02:47.streets. There are plenty of places to get tea, but there is no shelter,
:02:47. > :02:52.really. It costs of the Church Army 55,000 a year to keep the bus on
:02:52. > :02:56.the road. Its destinations include smaller towns in North Derbyshire
:02:56. > :03:00.like Clay Cross. The town and district councils have the official
:03:00. > :03:05.lists of fewer than 40 households looking for accommodation. Allen
:03:05. > :03:12.says in a week, even in rural surroundings, he meets at least 75
:03:12. > :03:16.people looking for help. Is the problem confined to North
:03:16. > :03:19.Derbyshire or is it more a widespread? Chris Fields is the
:03:19. > :03:24.chief executive of St George's Crypt in Leeds, a charity that
:03:24. > :03:28.helps look after a rough sleepers. Have you seen similar rises in
:03:28. > :03:33.numbers? We have not seen a rise in numbers, but we have noticed we
:03:33. > :03:37.have not suffered or experienced the usual summer dip, so hidden
:03:37. > :03:42.within that there is probably around the 20% increase we have not
:03:42. > :03:48.calculated for. I have witnessed at first hand the incredible work you
:03:48. > :03:54.do, but is there a worrying trend? Are people coming to you younger?
:03:54. > :03:58.Are they even teenagers? We accept people from the age of 18 onwards,
:03:58. > :04:05.but the statistics for the past few months are showing the average age
:04:05. > :04:08.has come down to 22. Why is that? We said it is down to no work
:04:08. > :04:14.because that brings on homelessness, because they cannot maintain
:04:14. > :04:19.tenancies because they have not got a wage. We are trying our best to
:04:19. > :04:23.bring people back into work to train them up through our training
:04:23. > :04:28.and engagement mentoring, through our social enterprise nurturing. We
:04:28. > :04:32.are trying to get them back into some sort of work ethic. Looking
:04:33. > :04:40.into your crystal ball, do you fear it will get worse? We are preparing
:04:40. > :04:44.for it to get worse. The real hit has not come as far as we think. We
:04:44. > :04:50.have reduced our staffing structure in order to offer as seven-day-a-
:04:50. > :04:56.week service. The worrying thing is it has not got worse in the summer,
:04:56. > :05:00.but you would anticipate it to get worse in the winter presumably?
:05:00. > :05:05.Absolutely. Last November when we got the nasty weather we saw a huge
:05:05. > :05:10.increase in people and that it our resources as well. Thank you for
:05:10. > :05:14.joining us. We may as well late hour saw to
:05:14. > :05:17.rest on a rubbish heap, the words of a grieving mother from Barnsley
:05:17. > :05:23.describing the churchyard where she is burying her baby son tomorrow.
:05:23. > :05:28.Friends and relatives have been helping to clear it up and tackling
:05:28. > :05:32.the grass and weeds in the graveyard.
:05:32. > :05:36.A grieving mother examines the place where her baby son will be
:05:36. > :05:41.buried. Her family are going through unimaginable pain and she
:05:41. > :05:46.says the state of the graveyard has only added to their trauma. There
:05:46. > :05:55.is rubbish everywhere, the grass is taller than me. It has absolutely
:05:55. > :05:57.run wild. We may as well ask him to rest on a rubbish heap. 20 months
:05:57. > :06:01.old -- 20 mat you are jack was staying with relatives and was
:06:01. > :06:04.airlifted to hospital after choking. They rushed back to find him on a
:06:04. > :06:09.life-support machine and had to make the difficult decision to
:06:09. > :06:15.switch it off. It is hard enough as it is burying your son, but to bury
:06:15. > :06:20.him here, we just could not have done it. So friends and family have
:06:20. > :06:25.pulled together to clear up the All Saints church graveyard. We have so
:06:25. > :06:29.far done this area and it is really slow going. The strimmer is
:06:29. > :06:34.constantly jamming. Everybody is pulling their weight and hopefully
:06:34. > :06:38.we will have it done for tomorrow. It has been non-stop since the
:06:38. > :06:44.minutes we get here and tell the minute we go back home. To be
:06:44. > :06:48.honest, it is a devastating sight, really. The work has made a big
:06:48. > :06:54.difference. Three days ago, the churchyard was covered in weeds and
:06:54. > :06:58.grass is high and now it is transformed. The church tell us
:06:58. > :07:02.that they rely on the probation service sending community service
:07:02. > :07:06.offenders here to keep the church tidy bowls stock a small section
:07:06. > :07:09.around the news graves has been looked after and in a statement the
:07:09. > :07:13.digger at All Saints said maintaining the churchyard is a
:07:13. > :07:17.considerable drain on the resources of the church community. He says
:07:17. > :07:22.they are sensitive to the feelings of bereaved families and promises
:07:22. > :07:26.further clearing will take place. Jack's family are determined to
:07:26. > :07:35.carry on working until they feel this is fit to be his final resting
:07:35. > :07:39.place. Later on Look North: Harnessing the
:07:39. > :07:45.energy up the sun. Could solar panels on your roof help save you
:07:45. > :07:48.money for a rainy day? First, a man from Doncaster has
:07:48. > :07:52.appealed to thieves to return two of his pet monkeys after they were
:07:53. > :07:56.stolen from his home. I pair of golden handed tamarins
:07:56. > :08:04.are worth around 5,000 and could die if they are not properly looked
:08:04. > :08:09.after. Heartbroken monkey lover are bird
:08:09. > :08:14.surveys the empty cage once home to two gold and handed tamarins. They
:08:14. > :08:20.were taken by thieves during a break-in on Tuesday night. One of
:08:20. > :08:28.them must have bit him. The other monkeys were all sorted but I found
:08:28. > :08:32.out they had snicked them. She is pregnant. The monkeys are
:08:32. > :08:38.distinctive with a bright golden hands and feet and now worth around
:08:38. > :08:42.2,500 each. I'll but things he may have been deliberately targeted.
:08:42. > :08:47.Somebody who is spike will, nasty and vindictive and things, we want
:08:47. > :08:52.them and they stole them. This little monkey is a marmoset and
:08:52. > :08:58.lives next door to where the stolen monkeys lived. Normally they are
:08:58. > :09:01.very sociable and hungry and today they seem a bit subdued. All of the
:09:01. > :09:06.monkeys and need special care. Experts say the stolen ones could
:09:07. > :09:11.die if not looked after properly. The bread and monkey is going
:09:11. > :09:15.through a lot of stress in the first place. If she has been
:09:16. > :09:19.manhandled, there will be major stress implications. If she has not
:09:19. > :09:24.got the right diet, it does not bode very well for any developing
:09:24. > :09:29.offspring. If they bring them back, please bring them back and leave
:09:29. > :09:34.them outside my back door or my front door. I need the monkeys back.
:09:34. > :09:38.Albert is now visiting local pet stores in the hope -- hope that
:09:39. > :09:44.someone may know where they are. Police are investigating a break-in
:09:44. > :09:47.and want to hear from anyone who offered monkeys for sale.
:09:47. > :09:51.Leeds council will decide next week whether to install solar panels on
:09:51. > :09:56.some of its buildings, including schools, museums and leisure
:09:56. > :09:59.centres. In these days of soaring fuel bills,
:09:59. > :10:03.could householders save money by doing the same thing?
:10:03. > :10:08.Paul Hudson has been investigating solar power as a possible solution
:10:08. > :10:12.and he has put his money where his mouth is.
:10:12. > :10:16.Energy prices are soaring and we are all looking for ways to keep
:10:16. > :10:22.our bills down. Earlier this month, British Gas increased their prices
:10:22. > :10:26.by up to 20%. What can we do to cut the cost of keeping our lights on
:10:26. > :10:31.and keeping our homes warm? One way of cutting your electricity bills
:10:31. > :10:36.is to generate your own clean, green electricity and I have
:10:36. > :10:39.finally taken the plunge and got solar panels fitted on my roof. The
:10:40. > :10:44.bottom line is and as we all want to live in a cave, we cannot get
:10:44. > :10:49.away from the fact we need electricity. But you might be
:10:49. > :10:54.surprised by just how many of our appliances as all-powerful stop
:10:54. > :10:58.this kettle is the worst offender. Three Keller once every time you
:10:59. > :11:05.turn it on. Then you have got things like the dishwasher. On a
:11:05. > :11:10.sunny day my solar power was -- panels generate electricity and
:11:10. > :11:18.even on a cloudy day power is still being generated. The cost came to
:11:18. > :11:23.11,000. My income per year, including Government Harrods, is
:11:23. > :11:27.1,250. After eight years they will have paid for themselves and will
:11:27. > :11:34.be making money. If you cannot afford to pay for the panel's
:11:34. > :11:39.yourself, there are companies who will fit them for free. The Energy
:11:39. > :11:42.Saving Trust explained how it worked. The electricity that is
:11:42. > :11:47.generated of the Rupert will be used within your building and that
:11:47. > :11:52.could save you anywhere between 300 a year. As good as all this
:11:52. > :11:56.sounds, you still need to do your homework. A research report
:11:56. > :12:00.highlighted evidence of some is selling in the industry.
:12:01. > :12:08.important thing is to make sure that any company you use are
:12:08. > :12:11.members of the real assurance code, which is about the selling of
:12:11. > :12:20.renewable energy products. If you have got any doubts, we will offer
:12:20. > :12:25.free, independent and impartial advice for for you. With bills
:12:25. > :12:31.expected to keep on rising, producing your own, clean
:12:31. > :12:36.electricity has never looked so good. Paul has been blogging on the
:12:37. > :12:43.subject. He will be back with the weather
:12:43. > :12:47.forecast at the end of the programme. Before 7 o'clock two
:12:47. > :12:51.only two wins away from Wembley. A big weekend ahead for our rugby
:12:51. > :12:55.league teams as they prepare for the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.
:12:55. > :13:00.Join me later in the programme outside City Hall in Sheffield
:13:00. > :13:09.where they have erected one of the outdoor stages for this year's
:13:09. > :13:14.tramlines music festival. Losing our hair as we grow older,
:13:14. > :13:17.certainly among men, is a fact of life, but imagine a six year-old
:13:17. > :13:20.girl and her she kills about losing hers. That is what Charlie-Jo
:13:20. > :13:25.Kibble from Wakefield has to put up with because of a rare genetic

:13:45. > :13:49.is having her head shaved to raise money for her six year-old niece
:13:49. > :13:56.who has alopecia. A rare condition in a child that can lead to total
:13:56. > :14:02.hair loss. She is being very brave doing this. But it is awful to see

:14:44. > :14:54.Doctors say it is likely she inherited the condition from her
:14:54. > :14:54.
:14:55. > :15:00.father. Chidi it was Lisa's turn. It feels very strange. I am glad it
:15:00. > :15:05.is over with. Are you going to look and the mayor? And know. I feel
:15:05. > :15:13.happy at the moment and I want to stay like this for a little while.
:15:13. > :15:21.For now, she may understand how her niece feels. Hopefully, one day her
:15:21. > :15:24.flowing locks will return. She looks lovely. On to cricket and the
:15:24. > :15:27.wickets have continued to tumble at Headingley today. Tim Bresnan added
:15:27. > :15:30.two more to his tally before Adil Rashid got into the action. He
:15:30. > :15:40.clean bowled Sajid Mahmood for 50. Lancashire were eventually all out

:15:48. > :15:53.Sorry, but their batting is falling apart again. They are currently 121

:16:02. > :16:08.I did say do not be too confident. I'd waited that we would win and I
:16:08. > :16:10.have been told off for it. Ripon diver Jack Laugher put in a
:16:11. > :16:13.tremendous performance in his first world championships. He did well to
:16:14. > :16:16.qualify for the final in the first place and finished a very
:16:16. > :16:19.impressive 8th overall. The 16- year-old has now guaranteed himself
:16:19. > :16:22.a place in next year's world series and has ensured Great Britain a
:16:22. > :16:28.spot in the 3 metre individual event for London 2012.
:16:28. > :16:31.In Rugby League, it's quarter final weekend in the Challenge Cup.

:16:59. > :17:05.Built -- there rhinos beat Hull last week. We will go to Hull with
:17:06. > :17:11.some confidence. We will be more at the -- but we will see them a more

:17:23. > :17:31.their licences to stay in Super League. Before that, they take on a
:17:31. > :17:39.rare shot at winning silverware. Since 96, there has only been four
:17:39. > :17:44.winners. We have a chance. Huddersfield's have set a trap, not
:17:44. > :17:50.to catch a tiger but to the fox that has been tearing up the new

:18:36. > :18:40.visitors, which ballooned last year to over 125,000 people, and is set
:18:40. > :18:43.to be even bigger this year. It covers every music genre you can

:18:53. > :18:57.
:18:57. > :19:03.looking? First, look at this.
:19:03. > :19:08.Obviously, there will be a lot of people dressed up for this weekend.
:19:08. > :19:15.It is the biggest weekend on the music calendar here in Sheffield. A
:19:15. > :19:18.fantastic line-up. First of all, a quick and extent -- mention to the
:19:18. > :19:25.Artic monkeys. Congratulations to them as they were voted the album
:19:25. > :19:32.of the year this week. They played it to back-to-back breaks for that

:19:54. > :19:57.It is officially the biggest music festival Yorkshire has to offer.
:19:57. > :20:03.Tramlines will see more musicians play to bigger audiences than any

:22:01. > :22:12.
:22:12. > :22:16.# Come and meet the stars. That was a flavour of what UK and -
:22:16. > :22:21.- what you can come and catch this weekend. It is more a case of what
:22:21. > :22:29.you do not want to mess than what you will miss. He our local

:22:35. > :22:40.to a. The motorway was looking dark and we got to Sheffield and the sun
:22:40. > :22:46.always shines here! You guys working in this city for over three
:22:46. > :22:53.decades. You have played at some crazy then used in the city. I have
:22:53. > :22:58.played in every venue in this city. The had a stage here last year but
