:00:04. > :00:07.Good evening on Look North. A beautiful outlook. A big rise in

:00:07. > :00:12.visitor numbers to Yorkshire in good time for the start of the

:00:12. > :00:15.summer holidays. Also tonight: People are told to

:00:15. > :00:25.leave their homes in Barnsley as a former fire station goes up in

:00:25. > :00:25.

:00:25. > :00:35.smoke. We are live at the scene. And a new take on water music,

:00:35. > :00:36.

:00:36. > :00:46.courtesy of the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra. Overcast sky is

:00:46. > :00:51.

:00:51. > :00:56.tonight. More to come over the next few days. All the details to follow.

:00:56. > :01:01.Good evening. To coincide with the start of the summer holidays, there

:01:01. > :01:06.is already good news for Yorkshire's's tourist industry.

:01:06. > :01:11.According to figures from the Great Britain at Travel Survey, there has

:01:11. > :01:20.been an increased of visitors to Yorkshire in the first three months

:01:20. > :01:28.of the year. Cathy is in York for us tonight. Cathy. Thank you. I

:01:28. > :01:38.hate to say it, but it is just starting to rain. Yorke, of course,

:01:38. > :01:40.

:01:40. > :01:45.the hub of Yorkshire's tourism industry. So, how is it looking?

:01:45. > :01:50.It was blowing a bit of a gale on the beach, but did not seem to put

:01:50. > :01:57.the holidaymakers off. The latest tourism figures seem encouraging.

:01:57. > :02:03.The first three months of 2011 saw a 14% increase of visitors to

:02:03. > :02:09.Yorkshire. Nationally, visits were up only 5%. The influx of people

:02:09. > :02:17.meant expenditure was up by 25% here in Yorkshire. Nationally, the

:02:18. > :02:27.rise was 5%. The length of stay it also increased by 15%. Nationally,

:02:28. > :02:32.

:02:32. > :02:38.it decreased by 2%. This is a great destination. This is a destination

:02:38. > :02:43.of choice. Our job is to market Yorkshire, nationally and

:02:43. > :02:48.internationally. These figures are independent, which is great as well.

:02:48. > :02:57.People are also telling their friends. One clear area of growth

:02:57. > :03:02.is camping. This site has already seen two bumper seasons. Many of

:03:02. > :03:06.the campers who would normally spend their time in of France and

:03:06. > :03:12.Spain, because of the price of diesel and getting down there, many

:03:12. > :03:20.of them are turning back to home grown camping. The Lorraine, the

:03:20. > :03:24.statistics do not ring true though. She is also the secretary of an

:03:24. > :03:31.umbrella organisation that promotes farm holidays. Her sector is

:03:31. > :03:37.finding the going tough. This here particularly as down. 1 I asked the

:03:37. > :03:42.other members of my group, they have all said the same. One member

:03:42. > :03:46.said to me he has a cottage available for six weeks. This is

:03:46. > :03:51.the peak season. The figures look good because they are compared to

:03:51. > :03:55.the awful winter of 2010, and almost anything would look like an

:03:55. > :04:05.improvement next to that. The real test will be the next batch of

:04:05. > :04:07.

:04:07. > :04:14.figures. Welcome to Yorkshire. Advance hotel

:04:14. > :04:19.bookings are looking healthy, which is a good sign. Also, industry

:04:19. > :04:28.chief's surveys are looking good as well. A lot depends on the weather

:04:28. > :04:32.of course. Fingers crossed, Cathy. Houses have

:04:32. > :04:36.been evacuated and residents have been advised to stay indoors

:04:36. > :04:46.because of a fire in South Yorkshire. It is in a fire station

:04:46. > :04:47.

:04:47. > :04:52.in Brampton, where Dan Johnson joins us now. It has been a busy

:04:52. > :04:57.afternoon for the fire service. Their work is still going on this

:04:57. > :05:04.evening. The irony is, they are dealing with a fire been one of

:05:04. > :05:09.their own, old buildings. It has been at a disused for the last year.

:05:09. > :05:15.The fire service were quartet at about 3pm to a very intense blaze

:05:15. > :05:25.that was well alight. It needed 30 firefighters, and seven of fire

:05:25. > :05:26.

:05:26. > :05:35.engines were here. We can chat to Simon, the commander from South

:05:35. > :05:41.Yorkshire Fire and rescue. It has been a big job. Very intense fire.

:05:41. > :05:46.We have got seven of firepower at - - appliances said as quickly as

:05:47. > :05:51.possible. We have concentrated on protecting property, as we knew the

:05:51. > :06:01.property involved was derelict. That has involved a moving people

:06:01. > :06:03.

:06:03. > :06:11.from their homes? Yes, we have a evacuated nine properties.

:06:11. > :06:14.Sorry about that. Coming up later: We will be Wet Wet

:06:14. > :06:23.Wet, meeting Marti Pellow. But also catch up with the

:06:24. > :06:28.musicians making a splash at a swimming pool in Bramley.

:06:28. > :06:33.Transport officials say Yorkshire is in danger of losing out in the

:06:33. > :06:38.race for high-speed trains to London and Europe. A report is

:06:38. > :06:42.expected to say the trains will generate huge economic benefits,

:06:43. > :06:49.and a good return on taxpayers's money. But there are worries a

:06:49. > :06:53.rival route to Manchester will be built first.

:06:53. > :06:57.Designing beat re aware of the future. High-speed trains are not

:06:57. > :07:07.even of the drawing board, but already, there are worries

:07:07. > :07:12.Yorkshire will lose out. concern is the government will push

:07:12. > :07:16.ahead with the London to Birmingham section, and then when it comes to

:07:16. > :07:23.deep lines to Manchester and Leeds, the Manchester one will be done

:07:23. > :07:33.first. It will split, with brunch is going

:07:33. > :07:34.

:07:34. > :07:41.to Manchester and Leeds. The Transport Secretary was in at

:07:41. > :07:47.Sheffield. He says he is aware of what is at stake. We will build the

:07:47. > :07:52.London to Birmingham section first. Once we have got to Birmingham, we

:07:52. > :07:57.would then build the Manchester and Leeds branches simultaneously, with

:07:57. > :08:02.both expected to open in 2032. Britain has only one dedicated

:08:02. > :08:06.high-speed line. Supporters say it faster links would bring jobs and

:08:06. > :08:12.money to the region, but only if both lads are billed at the same

:08:13. > :08:16.time. This is not just about shedding one

:08:17. > :08:22.at -- one are off the journey. There are more people using the

:08:22. > :08:28.trains than ever before. There are now more railway passengers that

:08:28. > :08:33.and any peacetime years since the 1920s.

:08:33. > :08:36.More trains and a better timetable will be the only way of giving

:08:36. > :08:46.everyone a seat. A high-speed line it looks like the best way of doing

:08:46. > :08:52.

:08:52. > :08:59.It is one year since the floods devastated Pakistan. An area the

:08:59. > :09:06.size of England was under water. I cannot believe ates one yet! Four

:09:06. > :09:13.men are from Bradford have spent the past few months fundraising for

:09:13. > :09:21.the flood victims. They have raised more than a 1 million. They now

:09:21. > :09:26.join us in the studio. Why did you get yourself involved in this?

:09:27. > :09:35.Initially, when we saw the devastation on the television, it

:09:35. > :09:39.was heartbreaking to see. We have got family death. -- family there.

:09:39. > :09:49.We wanted to do something for these people, because we knew these

:09:49. > :09:49.

:09:49. > :09:57.people were helpless. That was 12 months ago. 1 million cannot have

:09:57. > :10:03.been easy to raise? It was a very tough task. We set ourselves a

:10:03. > :10:09.challenge. We went out last October as a field visit. When we came back,

:10:09. > :10:14.we had time to reflect. At that point, we decided we wanted to do

:10:14. > :10:19.more. We wanted to rebuild the four villagers, which came to a cost of

:10:19. > :10:26.approximately 1 million. We can see some of the pictures coming now,

:10:26. > :10:36.surely. It is important to say, you have done an incredible amount of

:10:36. > :10:39.

:10:39. > :10:45.good. We have. We are very pleased. It is thanks to all the people of

:10:45. > :10:51.Yorkshire who have been donated and in their hundreds and thousands.

:10:51. > :10:57.This was a new medical facility. It was in one of the villages hit by

:10:57. > :11:06.the floods. This is a provision that is provided free of charge.

:11:06. > :11:16.All the medication, doctors, even an ambulance, it is all free.

:11:16. > :11:19.

:11:19. > :11:24.extent of the flood was a stand-in. To give you a short snap shot, you

:11:24. > :11:29.refer to statistics: At 11 million people were displaced. In terms of

:11:29. > :11:36.what we are doing, it is only a small drop in the ocean. When we

:11:36. > :11:46.went to the villagers, we saw the villages transformed. You should be

:11:46. > :11:46.

:11:46. > :11:55.very proud. It is not just us. It is a team effort. Being a local

:11:55. > :11:58.councillor should be quite good, as well! Thank you very much.

:11:58. > :12:01.A 19-year-old man has been charged with the murder of the Sheffield

:12:01. > :12:04.teenager Jamie Stuart. Jamie, who was also nineteen, was found with

:12:04. > :12:07.fatal injuries in Parson Cross early on Saturday morning. He died

:12:07. > :12:12.from stab wounds. Danny Parr, who is from Rotherham, has been charged

:12:12. > :12:15.with his murder. Police have named a man who died

:12:15. > :12:18.after jumping into the River Ouse in York at the weekend. 21-year-old

:12:18. > :12:28.Richard Anthony Horrocks leapt from a balcony in the town. Officers say

:12:28. > :12:33.he paid the ultimate price for a moment of misplaced exuberance.

:12:33. > :12:38.looks infighting on a hot summer day. It is a very dangerous place.

:12:38. > :12:42.There are fast-moving currency and debris. Anybody, please, do not go

:12:42. > :12:45.in the river. West Yorkshire Police are appealing

:12:45. > :12:48.for information about a 47-year-old woman from Queensbury who has gone

:12:48. > :12:52.missing. Susan Cowley was last seen at her home on Saturday morning.

:12:52. > :12:54.Her blue VW Polo vehicle was parked in a car park at Bolton Abbey in

:12:54. > :12:56.North Yorkshire on Saturday lunchtime.

:12:56. > :13:01.The Yorkshire Building Society is taking over the mortgage and

:13:01. > :13:03.savings part of Egg, the UK's first ever internet bank. Yorkshire will

:13:03. > :13:08.acquire the name but will not take on the company's 600-strong

:13:08. > :13:14.workforce, which is largely based in Derby. Once the deal completes

:13:14. > :13:17.later this year, existing Egg customers will become members.

:13:17. > :13:22.Plans have been submitted for a new 52 million student village in

:13:22. > :13:25.Sheffield. If it is approved, the Manor Mill development on the edge

:13:25. > :13:33.of the city centre will include cafes and bars, and public spaces,

:13:33. > :13:38.as well as over 800 apartments. Organisers of the Tramlines Music

:13:38. > :13:42.Festival in Sheffield say the event got 175,000 visitors. Heaven 17

:13:42. > :13:47.headlined on Friday night at Barkers Pool. Last night, the third

:13:47. > :13:57.year of the free festival concluded with a set from Ash. The main stage

:13:57. > :14:04.

:14:04. > :14:09.saw 40,000 revellers over Saturday While thousands were in Sheffield

:14:09. > :14:16.this weekend for tramlines Festival, this was a different concept. It

:14:16. > :14:21.took place in Leeds and the Blair - - best places were soaking wet!

:14:21. > :14:31.It was happening in an Edwardian swimming baths. Its future is

:14:31. > :14:32.

:14:32. > :14:39.uncertain which is one of the reasons why it because it was held.

:14:39. > :14:44.-- the concert was held. Opened in 19 No 4 by the Edwardian

:14:44. > :14:49.is, the Bramley baths in Leeds has many of its original features but

:14:49. > :14:54.this is a new one. The West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra on an

:14:54. > :15:01.island stage. It was the highlight of the festival and the premium

:15:01. > :15:07.seats were in the poorer. I loved lying back in the water and looking

:15:07. > :15:14.at their light coming through the window. Payment be music it was

:15:14. > :15:18.lovely. I have never heard that kind of music in real life. There

:15:18. > :15:28.is this beautiful music and this amazing swimming happening around

:15:28. > :15:28.

:15:28. > :15:32.it. The sunlight coming through was amazing. Work started to build the

:15:32. > :15:37.stage at 8am this morning. So they used their goggles and held their

:15:37. > :15:46.breath. They had to make sure it could hold 20 musicians and their

:15:46. > :15:50.instruments. One of the reasons why the festival organisers decided to

:15:50. > :15:57.host this event, is the future of these baths is under threat from

:15:57. > :16:01.council cuts. Anyone here in the pool can see that this event

:16:01. > :16:06.wouldn't have the same atmosphere in any other swimming pool.

:16:06. > :16:13.talked to one guy who swam underneath and asked him what it

:16:13. > :16:19.sounded like. He said you could here it. He said it was an

:16:19. > :16:24.interesting experience. People are considering buying the best to save

:16:24. > :16:34.it from council cuts. Everyone that took part gave their time for free.

:16:34. > :16:38.They show the lengths that the Community can go to to save people.

:16:38. > :16:42.Also the lengths that video journalist will go to. Well done a

:16:42. > :16:48.live here. Coming up tight, a dream job being

:16:48. > :16:52.a control and Lydiate Ash analyst has never been so much fun.

:16:52. > :16:59.And you can keep up with the Wet Wet Wet front man who is appearing

:16:59. > :17:09.in Yorkshire. Let us talk sport but also music.

:17:09. > :17:10.

:17:10. > :17:15.You have had a good weekend. I asked him to come out to the

:17:15. > :17:25.festival with me but he declined. Why are you hobbling?

:17:25. > :17:29.

:17:29. > :17:31.I slips in the shower. -- slipped. Rugby League first and if there is

:17:31. > :17:36.two of our rugby league is that have booked their places in the

:17:36. > :17:43.semi-finals of the Challenge Cup. It will be played the first weekend

:17:43. > :17:46.in August and will end with a trip to Wembley for one of them.

:17:46. > :17:50.Castleford who narrowly beat Huddersfield will host Leeds Rhinos,

:17:50. > :17:55.to see who will represent Yorkshire in the Challenge Cup final at

:17:55. > :18:01.Wembley. Although they didn't -- day didn't start well for Leeds.

:18:01. > :18:06.They found themselves down at KC Stadium yesterday but rallied after

:18:06. > :18:12.the break to touch down five tries in the second half. Ben Jones-

:18:12. > :18:17.Bishop getting his second to clinch the match. The man of the day was a

:18:17. > :18:27.Kevin Sinfield. He kicked seven goals to become the club's highest

:18:27. > :18:28.

:18:28. > :18:33.ever goal scorer, passing Lewis- Jones' set in 1964. Helping his

:18:33. > :18:42.side to a win, keeping alive hopes of picking up the trophy for the

:18:42. > :18:46.first time in over a decade. Both teams were fantastic. We came back

:18:46. > :18:54.from the initial points down. Some millet -- resilience shown from our

:18:55. > :18:59.fellows. The final will be played in August.

:19:00. > :19:05.Staying with rugby league and announcement day tomorrow.

:19:05. > :19:09.Basically, it looks as if it is going to be down to whether the

:19:09. > :19:15.Wakefield and Castleford are going to survive. People seem to think

:19:15. > :19:19.that Wake field won't. Is it to do with their ground?

:19:19. > :19:24.If to get these licences, the RFL stipulate that the club has to be

:19:24. > :19:30.moving in the right direction. The Pat Mooney season tickets does the

:19:30. > :19:39.club have? Have they been into administration? Wake field were at

:19:39. > :19:44.the start of the season. Also the strength of the team.

:19:44. > :19:54.Castleford are not having a great season.

:19:54. > :19:59.It looks as if it would be a call between Castleford and Wakefield.

:19:59. > :20:01.On to cricket and we must mention Yorkshire's narrow defeat against

:20:01. > :20:05.Lancashire in their county championship match at Headingley

:20:05. > :20:13.that finished on Saturday. The 23 run defeat leaves Yorkshire in

:20:13. > :20:23.relegation danger. Worcestershire have two games in hand. The Tykes

:20:23. > :20:23.

:20:23. > :20:28.have five mashes -- matches to secure themselves.

:20:28. > :20:32.It is a difficult time for Yorkshire.

:20:32. > :20:36.There aren't many tasks that Chile just children would offer to do

:20:36. > :20:39.during the summer holidays but one job has had to them applying in the

:20:39. > :20:46.hundreds. It is to be the official Tory

:20:46. > :20:52.tester for Meadow Hall. -- Tory tester.

:20:52. > :20:57.Eight candidates, one job, all of them up for their challenge to be

:20:57. > :21:04.named as games tester to there's and 11. I love playing with toys.

:21:04. > :21:09.If I have a lot of experience of playing with toys. I love them and

:21:09. > :21:13.it wouldn't feel like an ordinary job. There is more in their job

:21:13. > :21:18.description. Every week during their summer holiday, they will get

:21:18. > :21:24.a new game to test. There is a video diary to make and then

:21:24. > :21:34.reporting back to the boss. Today, the boss is doing the testing.

:21:34. > :21:35.

:21:35. > :21:40.makes you a good tester? Why do you think you should get the job?

:21:40. > :21:44.Because I like toys. We need someone with inquisitive skills,

:21:44. > :21:51.attention to detail, enthusiasm about toys. It is important we get

:21:51. > :22:01.the right candidate on board. the interviews are over, it is time

:22:01. > :22:02.

:22:02. > :22:08.to wait. I do know this? Yes. not long before the announcement.

:22:08. > :22:13.It is nice. I am looking forward to being able to test loads of toys

:22:13. > :22:19.for free. All of the finalists got a special certificate for coming so

:22:19. > :22:26.far. Irwin's job at the start straight away and with a salary in

:22:26. > :22:32.Tories, he will have plenty to do this summer.

:22:33. > :22:37.Marti Pellow shot to fame in the 80s with Wet Wet Wet. When the

:22:37. > :22:42.group split up in the nineties, he began working in musical theatre.

:22:42. > :22:47.His latest role is at the mad scientists in a Jekyll and Hyde. It

:22:47. > :22:52.opens tonight in Leeds. Not long now tell the curtain goes

:22:52. > :22:59.up at the Grand Theatre. The man starring as that famous

:22:59. > :23:09.schizophrenic in Jekyll-and-Hyde is Marti Pellow. Before we chat to him,

:23:09. > :23:31.

:23:31. > :23:33.Lovely to see you here in Leeds. We have just seen you in the Wet Wet

:23:33. > :23:41.Wet that people are going to see you in a different light in this

:23:41. > :23:48.production of Jekyll and Hyde. suppose this is my 4th musical that

:23:48. > :23:55.I have done so this is a new genre Ferme. People will be familiar with

:23:55. > :24:00.my Wet Wet Wet work. Hopefully they will enjoy my performances. It is a

:24:00. > :24:08.dark production. Do you get to unleash your inner beast? If this

:24:08. > :24:18.is a dark piece and that is what appeals to me. The witches of

:24:18. > :24:21.

:24:21. > :24:24.Eastwick, even to Chicago, they were dark it characters. I always

:24:24. > :24:28.find the people who are the quietest in the room and are the

:24:28. > :24:33.most scariest. You are making it -- a name for yourself in musical

:24:33. > :24:40.theatre, any chance of a reunion with Wet Wet Wet? Never say never.

:24:40. > :24:46.We have always got different projects and we have families.

:24:46. > :24:50.Everybody's priorities change. That is ultimately what I respect. More

:24:50. > :24:57.chance of us getting round the table eating and we have of getting

:24:57. > :25:07.back together. Never say never. Wet Wet Wet brought enjoyment to

:25:07. > :25:08.

:25:08. > :25:12.millions of people and sometimes we think about it. He seems a nice

:25:12. > :25:22.chap. I thought you were talking about me.

:25:22. > :25:24.

:25:24. > :25:34.Let me show you a picture. Temperatures were below average but

:25:34. > :26:03.

:26:03. > :26:09.there was a high humidity. This was The headline for the next 24 hours

:26:09. > :26:15.is mostly dry, rather cloudy. There has been one or two showers and I
