:00:34. > :00:41.launches a website, after the death It is a very exciting week for

:00:41. > :00:46.Bradford, the soccer -- the start of the British Science Festival.

:00:46. > :00:51.The problem I have had with whether his, when you want the water, you

:00:51. > :01:01.have to wait for it to come from the clouds. So, we make our own.

:01:01. > :01:02.

:01:02. > :01:05.Good evening, and welcome to Look North. Our top story this evening

:01:05. > :01:08.is the arrest and questioning of six members of staff at two

:01:08. > :01:12.nurseries in York. A joint investigation by the police

:01:12. > :01:16.and the local council has been ongoing for the last two weeks. Our

:01:16. > :01:26.crime correspondent John Cundy is in York with the latest. What can

:01:26. > :01:27.

:01:27. > :01:35.you tell us about these arrests? I am outside Heworth House Day

:01:35. > :01:40.Nursery. This caters for up to 30 children up to the age of five. Six

:01:40. > :01:45.existence at his nursery, and its sister nursery, Little Joe's Day

:01:45. > :01:50.Nursery, who have been arrested and questioned by police, before being

:01:50. > :01:53.released on bail. What everybody is stressing his this investigation is

:01:53. > :01:57.into the running of the nurseries and quality of the care and welfare

:01:57. > :02:03.of the children. There is no suggestion of any physical or

:02:03. > :02:11.mental abuse. It centres around the question of possible neglect.

:02:11. > :02:16.have the police had to say? police have said the six women

:02:17. > :02:21.concerned are aged between 18 and 28. They are stressing what has

:02:21. > :02:26.happened is standard practice in an investigation of this kind, they

:02:27. > :02:31.have reasonable suspicion and a sense may have been committed, and

:02:31. > :02:35.then people will be arrested and questioned. They stress it does not

:02:35. > :02:40.necessarily follow if they have uncovered anything more sinister in

:02:40. > :02:44.their investigations during the past 16 days. The nurseries have

:02:44. > :02:51.remained open. To an extent, parents are being kept informed.

:02:51. > :02:55.Has there been any reaction from the nursery?

:02:55. > :03:00.Not from the nurseries themselves, and did not really from any parents.

:03:00. > :03:03.It seems that perhaps a small number of children at still going

:03:03. > :03:06.to Little Joe's Day Nursery or Heworth House Day Nursery, at any

:03:06. > :03:13.parents presented to speak to, said they did not want to be interviewed

:03:13. > :03:18.at all, or said they did not understand what the nature of the

:03:18. > :03:24.accusations are, or who has made these accusations. Those arrested

:03:24. > :03:27.have been extended on police bail until next month. The danger that

:03:27. > :03:31.herds of cattle can pose has been highlighted, after a woman was

:03:31. > :03:34.tossed into the air by a cow, on a rambling holiday in North Yorkshire.

:03:34. > :03:38.Irene Pitham was walking through a field in Nidderdale earlier this

:03:38. > :03:41.year, when the animal turned on her. Irene was rescued by Yorkshire Air

:03:41. > :03:45.Ambulance, and the drama was caught on film by the BBC's Helicopter

:03:45. > :03:48.Heroes production team who are based here in Leeds. The story will

:03:48. > :03:58.be shown on BBC1 on Monday morning. Our reporter Spencer Stokes has

:03:58. > :03:58.

:03:58. > :04:03.been taking a look. A woman is lying on her back in a

:04:03. > :04:06.Nidderdale field, thrown into the air by a cow. The Yorkshire Air

:04:06. > :04:13.Ambulance has been scrambled and, within minutes, it will be touching

:04:13. > :04:18.down. The herd of cattle is still yards away. We were walking across

:04:18. > :04:22.the field, and the cows with their young ones came towards us. They

:04:22. > :04:26.seemed to ease back, then one round boards and put his nose underneath

:04:26. > :04:30.my wife and flipped her into the air. She went right over the top

:04:30. > :04:35.and hit the ground. There is potential for head and internal

:04:35. > :04:40.injuries. Less than 15 minutes after the initial emergency call,

:04:40. > :04:46.the helicopter and paramedics are one seemed. How much pain are you

:04:46. > :04:52.win? A good half-ton of an angry beefburger is dangerous. Many

:04:52. > :04:57.people are injured or killed, and especially if you have a dog with

:04:57. > :05:00.you. The advice is, in that situation, you let your dog go. The

:05:00. > :05:04.injuries are assessed and it becomes clear they are not life-

:05:04. > :05:10.threatening. One of the team tried to keep her spirits up with some

:05:10. > :05:16.humour. When you get home, get your own back by having a stake! Irene

:05:16. > :05:22.is removed into the helicopter before being flown to Harrogate

:05:22. > :05:28.hospital. I was very calm until I got back here. Then it was day-case

:05:28. > :05:32.of, as opposed, emotion. The feeling I had was total panic that

:05:32. > :05:38.she had actually died. I thought they had killed her. She went up so

:05:38. > :05:43.high, then hit the ground and didn't move at all. Irene suffered

:05:43. > :05:47.little more than serious concussion but it shows docks, cattle and

:05:47. > :05:51.ramblers do not always mix. The new series of Helicopter Heroes

:05:51. > :05:59.returns to our screens on Monday at 9.15am on BBC1, with a chance to

:05:59. > :06:02.hear from Irene following her Stay with us, for a salutory lesson.

:06:02. > :06:11.The deep vein thrombosis which killed a young man who spent too

:06:11. > :06:15.A number of fire stations across West Yorkshire could close, as part

:06:15. > :06:18.of proposals to save millions of pounds. Jobs will also go. The Fire

:06:18. > :06:23.Service stands to lose up to 18 million in government grants over

:06:23. > :06:30.the next four years. The public now has 12 weeks to give its views on

:06:30. > :06:33.the proposals. Ian White has the details.

:06:33. > :06:38.If these changes are approved, they could start coming into effect from

:06:39. > :06:44.April 2012. Under the plans, ten fire stations would close and be

:06:44. > :06:48.replaced by five newer and more modern ones at Menson, Rastrick. At

:06:48. > :06:52.Batley, Killingbeck and South Kirby. More than 100 fire fighters could

:06:52. > :06:56.lose their jobs, but there will be no compulsory redundancies. No-one

:06:56. > :07:00.will be forced to leave their job. There would also be changes to

:07:00. > :07:08.shift patterns. This has been controversial in the past. But the

:07:08. > :07:12.Fire Service says it needs staff to work more flexibly.

:07:12. > :07:16.More than another call up for fire fighters. This time is not for real,

:07:16. > :07:21.but a training exercise. The station is one of West Yorkshire's

:07:21. > :07:26.newest. These modern stations are what the fired Service wants to see

:07:26. > :07:32.in future but, with five larger stations replacing 10 old ones. It

:07:32. > :07:39.is about saving money. The five areas earmarked for change will

:07:39. > :07:42.benefit from a huge investment by the fire authority, millions of

:07:42. > :07:48.pounds of investment in infrastructure which will serve the

:07:48. > :07:52.communities well, right into the next decade. This fire station is

:07:52. > :07:55.one of the 10 which faces closure. Under the proposals, it could

:07:55. > :08:03.actually closed down and be replaced by a new facility three

:08:03. > :08:08.miles away. If they will close these two, so we have heard. But

:08:08. > :08:14.they still have the same two areas to cover. They're going to move it

:08:14. > :08:19.into one that station. No, I think it is too big a distance. You need

:08:19. > :08:25.to get there quickly. Now it is further away. More damage, more

:08:25. > :08:29.injuries. More than 100 fire fighter posts will go through

:08:29. > :08:34.natural wastage. Retirement could be delayed until the age of 60.

:08:34. > :08:38.Unions say they recognise the need to modernise the service. The fire

:08:38. > :08:42.stations do reflect a West Yorkshire of some years ago by dint

:08:42. > :08:46.of the age of the stations. So some stations may be possible. But not

:08:46. > :08:53.all the changes are appropriate. Once we have looked at the

:08:53. > :09:00.proposals in detail, will make our views known. The 4 million a year

:09:00. > :09:05.could be saved if these changes go ahead. 12 weeks remain for you to

:09:05. > :09:08.tell the fires or -- the fire of it is what you think. A 24-year-old

:09:09. > :09:12.man's been arrested on suspicion of murder, after a 34-year-old woman

:09:12. > :09:14.was found dead at a house on Claywood Road in Sheffield. A post

:09:14. > :09:17.mortem examination's due to take place shortly.

:09:17. > :09:21.An 85-year-old World War Two veteran, who was jailed for six

:09:21. > :09:23.months in July for recording court proceedings, has been freed by the

:09:23. > :09:27.Court of Appeal. Norman Scarth, from Bradford, was jailed for

:09:27. > :09:32.contempt of court. He'd used an audio device hidden in a pen to

:09:32. > :09:35.record what was said. Plans for an inland port at

:09:35. > :09:39.Rossington in Doncaster have been given the go-ahead. A rail freight

:09:39. > :09:43.terminal will be built served by rail and road, and there's a

:09:43. > :09:46.planned link road to Junction 3 of the M18. Over 5,000 jobs could be

:09:47. > :09:50.created. Disabled workers across Yorkshire

:09:50. > :09:52.have been told by Unions that all five of the region's Remploy

:09:52. > :09:56.factories could close a year earlier than expected. Government

:09:56. > :09:59.subsidies were due to end in 2013, but unions now say the subsidy will

:09:59. > :10:02.be stopped earlier. The Department of Work and Pensions say their

:10:03. > :10:08.plans haven't changed and will issue a statement in the coming

:10:08. > :10:11.weeks. South Yorkshire's Police Authority

:10:11. > :10:15.says it wants more information before it decides to join a new

:10:15. > :10:18.National Police Air Service. They say they need more time to make a

:10:18. > :10:23.final decision. If they do decide to join the new national service,

:10:23. > :10:27.South Yorkshire Police will lose its helicopter.

:10:27. > :10:30.The Green Party says its conference in Sheffield this weekend could be

:10:30. > :10:32.their biggest ever. More than 800 delegates are expected with the

:10:32. > :10:40.party billing itself as an alternative to the Liberal

:10:40. > :10:43.A bereaved father from Sheffield has launched a website to raise

:10:43. > :10:46.awareness about the health risks associated with playing hours of

:10:46. > :10:49.computer games. David Staniforth's son Chris was just 20 when he died

:10:49. > :10:59.three months ago from deep vein thrombosis. His family believe it

:10:59. > :11:09.was caused by hours spent gaming. Here's our health correspondent,

:11:09. > :11:22.

:11:22. > :11:26.The and I decided to call this website. It really is the message.

:11:26. > :11:30.The message is not to their games. Enjoy them but be aware of what can

:11:31. > :11:36.happen. Chris Staniforth was dedicated to computer games, his

:11:36. > :11:40.hobby could have become his career. He'd just been accepted on the

:11:40. > :11:46.University design course. In May, at the age of 20, he died from deep

:11:47. > :11:52.vein thrombosis. He spent up to 20 hours at a time on his ex-boss. He

:11:52. > :11:55.had experienced chest pains in the night. He collapsed and died.

:11:55. > :12:03.of his international friends made through gaining have made a video

:12:03. > :12:08.for the website. It was awful. Being a parent, being a dad, you

:12:08. > :12:14.are always try to do something for your children, helped them out. But,

:12:14. > :12:19.you just can't do anything. Doing this website and the campaign has

:12:19. > :12:23.been a way of honouring him I suppose. Those most at risk have

:12:23. > :12:29.been the elderly, hospital patients and passengers on long-haul flights.

:12:29. > :12:35.But, every year, 20 younger people die from deep vein thrombosis. In

:12:35. > :12:41.2001, there were 13 deaths in men under 30. Last year, there were 21

:12:41. > :12:45.deaths. One in 1000 people each year do get a blood clot in their

:12:45. > :12:50.late or lungs. The message as a result of this case is we are

:12:50. > :12:55.becoming increasingly sedentary, playing games, in front of the

:12:55. > :13:00.computer. We must take a break, walk about. That will significantly

:13:00. > :13:04.reduce the risk. David has asked for a meeting with the gaming

:13:04. > :13:09.industry to see if warning signs can appear in games to remind

:13:09. > :13:15.players to take a break. The industry also is urging gamers to

:13:15. > :13:19.take time out. We would advise all of our customers to take regular

:13:19. > :13:25.breaks from the screen, get up and walk around every 45 minutes. Take

:13:25. > :13:29.five minutes out. You will enjoy your games far more. And a reminder

:13:29. > :13:39.to parents, there are parental controls on all consols to limit

:13:39. > :13:45.

:13:45. > :13:49.We were just talking about that. I have got an eight year old son. He

:13:49. > :13:57.plays on his computer games night and day and we have to ration that.

:13:57. > :14:03.It is a real warning. Stay with us before 7 o'clock. We are looking

:14:03. > :14:13.ahead to the weekend's sport. Castleford have to defeat Hull to

:14:13. > :14:17.

:14:17. > :14:27.secured a place in the play-offs. Revenge! Find out what Paul is

:14:27. > :14:32.

:14:32. > :14:39.That cheered me up! Forget about the forecast. Sunshine has broken

:14:39. > :14:47.out above West Yorkshire! We are talking to Paul in about five

:14:47. > :14:53.minutes. We hope he has not disappeared into a black hole.

:14:53. > :14:59.night we were reflecting on John Kear's time as coach but we are

:14:59. > :15:04.looking at his successor, Richard Agar. He is currently in charge of

:15:04. > :15:12.Hull FC. He has signed a three-year deal. John Kear steps down after

:15:12. > :15:17.tonight's match against Bradford. Halifax upset the formbook to win

:15:17. > :15:23.32-22 at Batley and the play-off eliminator. They play be one of

:15:23. > :15:27.Sheffield and Widnes Vikings. After a difficult season, Castleford

:15:27. > :15:34.understand they must defeat Hull to get a spot in the play-offs. It is

:15:34. > :15:38.the final round of matches and could be the last match in the team

:15:38. > :15:42.for Terry Matterson. He returns for Terry Matterson. He returns

:15:42. > :15:45.for Terry Matterson. He returns down under after the season. It is

:15:45. > :15:50.another 95 yards sizzling effort! another 95 yards sizzling effort!

:15:50. > :15:56.It might have got them the game will stop he started the season --.

:15:56. > :16:03.He started the season brilliantly and it comes down to one games.

:16:03. > :16:06.are not bouncing around the bottom of the table. We should have made

:16:06. > :16:10.the top eight a bit earlier but we have got reasons because of

:16:10. > :16:16.injuries but we have not got any more chances. We must get the job

:16:17. > :16:26.finished. For if we did not make it up the final hurdle, it will be a

:16:27. > :16:27.

:16:27. > :16:33.big let-down. We are in a good position. That is it! Castleford

:16:33. > :16:40.will go down! He has experienced ups and down in his six years at

:16:40. > :16:45.the club. They have come a long way in that time. It was the back end

:16:45. > :16:51.of November and we had got 13 players on a rainy day. I thought,

:16:51. > :16:57.oh my goodness, what have I done? But we are on the edge of the top

:16:57. > :17:05.eight every year. 7th, 8th and 9th in the past 18 years. I think that

:17:05. > :17:10.is progress. Plenty has changed in the team. We have improved. We have

:17:10. > :17:17.got a better side. He might be going home at the end of the season

:17:17. > :17:22.but he is not ready to depart just yet. We are training a week on week

:17:22. > :17:27.and is very hard but I am not packing it in yet. We wish them the

:17:27. > :17:33.very best. It is not looking good for Yorkshire in the cricket

:17:33. > :17:41.against relegation. They resumed on 20 without loss but have got just

:17:41. > :17:51.195 and 80 not have a batting bonus point. Somerset in reply, 100 24-6.

:17:51. > :17:52.

:17:52. > :17:56.Four wickets for Ryan Sidebottom. - - 124-6. I think they had virtually

:17:56. > :18:01.said that they were resigned to relegation. They need a

:18:01. > :18:07.mathematical miracle. They are basically down. They are basically

:18:07. > :18:11.down. They did have a few bright spots but they will be disappointed.

:18:11. > :18:16.When will we be put out of our misery? It will carry on because

:18:16. > :18:23.they have actually got a game in hand. But I think we all know what

:18:23. > :18:31.is happening! Martyn Moxon has been pulling his hair out and is getting

:18:31. > :18:37.very stressed. The World Superbike champion James Toseland has been

:18:37. > :18:43.forced to retire because of a wrist injury. The 31-year-old got the

:18:43. > :18:49.title in 2004 and 2007 are. He got the injury in March when he crashed

:18:49. > :18:54.out in test in. He has been advised the damage cannot be repaired. The

:18:54. > :18:57.Sheffield Steelers are at home in ice hockey against Dundee. Dundee

:18:57. > :19:03.are the first to step into the "House of Steel" against the

:19:03. > :19:09.defending champions. The Sheffield Steelers coach is excited about his

:19:09. > :19:13.new look team. We have got a fantastic squad and I think it is a

:19:13. > :19:19.bit more exciting for the supporters because of the stadium.

:19:19. > :19:26.We have got a big win in Belfast under our belts. I am prepared the

:19:26. > :19:33.supporters will be up for this. -- coping. The world cycling

:19:33. > :19:40.championships in Denmark, we have got a medal for David Stone. He had

:19:40. > :19:48.a really bad crash a few weeks ago. Very well done to him. It was awful,

:19:48. > :19:51.wasn't it? Very well done to him. wonder if we have got him back? I

:19:51. > :19:58.hope we have got all we will struggle with the forecast. We will

:19:58. > :20:03.make it up like he does! Scientists are riding in Bradford 40 annual

:20:03. > :20:08.British Science Festival. It is 100 years since it was in Bradford and

:20:08. > :20:11.it is the biggest festival of its kind in Europe. It has got cutting-

:20:11. > :20:18.edge science and technology and plenty of free events for people of

:20:18. > :20:26.all ages. Here is our correspondent. He is our resident scientist. Can

:20:26. > :20:32.we call him that? Are you back down to earth, Paul? I thought you might

:20:33. > :20:38.enjoy that right up. As a physicist and a weather forecaster, somebody

:20:38. > :20:44.bat has been mickey-taking out of him, this is very exciting. We are

:20:44. > :20:50.lucky to have these British Science Festival. 50,000 visitors are

:20:50. > :20:54.expected in the next 18 days. A great boost for the local economy.

:20:55. > :21:01.We have got Liz Bonnin from Bang Goes The Theory with us tonight.

:21:01. > :21:08.What are we doing tonight? We are bringing Bang Goes The Theory on

:21:08. > :21:12.the road. We are in Bradford and at St George's Hall doing the live

:21:12. > :21:19.version of the programme. People are taking part in scientific

:21:19. > :21:25.experiments. We have got Dr Yan Wong with his dance laboratory as

:21:25. > :21:30.well. It must be fun because you are a biochemist. It must be great

:21:30. > :21:38.to do this on television. It is like a dream come true. We have a

:21:38. > :21:45.great time, especially on the road. It is really funny. Calm down.

:21:45. > :21:52.are experimenting in a few moments. It is totally going to work. Take a

:21:52. > :21:56.look at this. What I am doing is an intense region of low pressure. I

:21:56. > :22:05.am using bees and vacuum cleaning ballads. We have got standard

:22:05. > :22:15.pressure of. -- a vacuum cleaning devices. I am not flying out of the

:22:15. > :22:18.

:22:18. > :22:26.top or anything? They will be a loving this back in the studio.

:22:27. > :22:32.does it feel up there? It is an incredible force. It should be

:22:32. > :22:42.about 800 and pressure. It feels like that as well. -- 800 pressure
