:01:01. > :01:02.
:01:02. > :01:05.Good evening, and welcome to Look North. Our top story this evening
:01:05. > :01:08.is the arrest and questioning of six members of staff at two
:01:08. > :01:12.nurseries in York. A joint investigation by the police
:01:12. > :01:16.and the local council has been ongoing for the last two weeks. Our
:01:16. > :01:26.crime correspondent John Cundy is in York with the latest. What can
:01:26. > :01:27.
:01:27. > :01:35.you tell us about these arrests? I am outside Heworth House Day
:01:35. > :01:40.Nursery. This caters for up to 30 children up to the age of five. Six
:01:40. > :01:45.existence at his nursery, and its sister nursery, Little Joe's Day
:01:45. > :01:50.Nursery, who have been arrested and questioned by police, before being
:01:50. > :01:53.released on bail. What everybody is stressing his this investigation is
:01:53. > :01:57.into the running of the nurseries and quality of the care and welfare
:01:57. > :02:03.of the children. There is no suggestion of any physical or
:02:03. > :02:11.mental abuse. It centres around the question of possible neglect.
:02:11. > :02:16.have the police had to say? police have said the six women
:02:17. > :02:21.concerned are aged between 18 and 28. They are stressing what has
:02:21. > :02:26.happened is standard practice in an investigation of this kind, they
:02:27. > :02:31.have reasonable suspicion and a sense may have been committed, and
:02:31. > :02:35.then people will be arrested and questioned. They stress it does not
:02:35. > :02:40.necessarily follow if they have uncovered anything more sinister in
:02:40. > :02:44.their investigations during the past 16 days. The nurseries have
:02:44. > :02:51.remained open. To an extent, parents are being kept informed.
:02:51. > :02:55.Has there been any reaction from the nursery?
:02:55. > :03:00.Not from the nurseries themselves, and did not really from any parents.
:03:00. > :03:03.It seems that perhaps a small number of children at still going
:03:03. > :03:06.to Little Joe's Day Nursery or Heworth House Day Nursery, at any
:03:06. > :03:13.parents presented to speak to, said they did not want to be interviewed
:03:13. > :03:18.at all, or said they did not understand what the nature of the
:03:18. > :03:24.accusations are, or who has made these accusations. Those arrested
:03:24. > :03:27.have been extended on police bail until next month. The danger that
:03:27. > :03:31.herds of cattle can pose has been highlighted, after a woman was
:03:31. > :03:34.tossed into the air by a cow, on a rambling holiday in North Yorkshire.
:03:34. > :03:38.Irene Pitham was walking through a field in Nidderdale earlier this
:03:38. > :03:41.year, when the animal turned on her. Irene was rescued by Yorkshire Air
:03:41. > :03:45.Ambulance, and the drama was caught on film by the BBC's Helicopter
:03:45. > :03:48.Heroes production team who are based here in Leeds. The story will
:03:48. > :03:58.be shown on BBC1 on Monday morning. Our reporter Spencer Stokes has
:03:58. > :03:58.
:03:58. > :04:03.been taking a look. A woman is lying on her back in a
:04:03. > :04:06.Nidderdale field, thrown into the air by a cow. The Yorkshire Air
:04:06. > :04:13.Ambulance has been scrambled and, within minutes, it will be touching
:04:13. > :04:18.down. The herd of cattle is still yards away. We were walking across
:04:18. > :04:22.the field, and the cows with their young ones came towards us. They
:04:22. > :04:26.seemed to ease back, then one round boards and put his nose underneath
:04:26. > :04:30.my wife and flipped her into the air. She went right over the top
:04:30. > :04:35.and hit the ground. There is potential for head and internal
:04:35. > :04:40.injuries. Less than 15 minutes after the initial emergency call,
:04:40. > :04:46.the helicopter and paramedics are one seemed. How much pain are you
:04:46. > :04:52.win? A good half-ton of an angry beefburger is dangerous. Many
:04:52. > :04:57.people are injured or killed, and especially if you have a dog with
:04:57. > :05:00.you. The advice is, in that situation, you let your dog go. The
:05:00. > :05:04.injuries are assessed and it becomes clear they are not life-
:05:04. > :05:10.threatening. One of the team tried to keep her spirits up with some
:05:10. > :05:16.humour. When you get home, get your own back by having a stake! Irene
:05:16. > :05:22.is removed into the helicopter before being flown to Harrogate
:05:22. > :05:28.hospital. I was very calm until I got back here. Then it was day-case
:05:28. > :05:32.of, as opposed, emotion. The feeling I had was total panic that
:05:32. > :05:38.she had actually died. I thought they had killed her. She went up so
:05:38. > :05:43.high, then hit the ground and didn't move at all. Irene suffered
:05:43. > :05:47.little more than serious concussion but it shows docks, cattle and
:05:47. > :05:51.ramblers do not always mix. The new series of Helicopter Heroes
:05:51. > :05:59.returns to our screens on Monday at 9.15am on BBC1, with a chance to
:05:59. > :06:02.hear from Irene following her Stay with us, for a salutory lesson.

:06:11. > :06:15.A number of fire stations across West Yorkshire could close, as part
:06:15. > :06:18.of proposals to save millions of pounds. Jobs will also go. The Fire
:06:18. > :06:23.Service stands to lose up to 18 million in government grants over
:06:23. > :06:30.the next four years. The public now has 12 weeks to give its views on
:06:30. > :06:33.the proposals. Ian White has the details.
:06:33. > :06:38.If these changes are approved, they could start coming into effect from
:06:39. > :06:44.April 2012. Under the plans, ten fire stations would close and be
:06:44. > :06:48.replaced by five newer and more modern ones at Menson, Rastrick. At
:06:48. > :06:52.Batley, Killingbeck and South Kirby. More than 100 fire fighters could
:06:52. > :06:56.lose their jobs, but there will be no compulsory redundancies. No-one
:06:56. > :07:00.will be forced to leave their job. There would also be changes to
:07:00. > :07:08.shift patterns. This has been controversial in the past. But the
:07:08. > :07:12.Fire Service says it needs staff to work more flexibly.
:07:12. > :07:16.More than another call up for fire fighters. This time is not for real,
:07:16. > :07:21.but a training exercise. The station is one of West Yorkshire's
:07:21. > :07:26.newest. These modern stations are what the fired Service wants to see
:07:26. > :07:32.in future but, with five larger stations replacing 10 old ones. It
:07:32. > :07:39.is about saving money. The five areas earmarked for change will
:07:39. > :07:42.benefit from a huge investment by the fire authority, millions of
:07:42. > :07:48.pounds of investment in infrastructure which will serve the
:07:48. > :07:52.communities well, right into the next decade. This fire station is
:07:52. > :07:55.one of the 10 which faces closure. Under the proposals, it could
:07:55. > :08:03.actually closed down and be replaced by a new facility three
:08:03. > :08:08.miles away. If they will close these two, so we have heard. But
:08:08. > :08:14.they still have the same two areas to cover. They're going to move it
:08:14. > :08:19.into one that station. No, I think it is too big a distance. You need
:08:19. > :08:25.to get there quickly. Now it is further away. More damage, more
:08:25. > :08:29.injuries. More than 100 fire fighter posts will go through
:08:29. > :08:34.natural wastage. Retirement could be delayed until the age of 60.
:08:34. > :08:38.Unions say they recognise the need to modernise the service. The fire
:08:38. > :08:42.stations do reflect a West Yorkshire of some years ago by dint
:08:42. > :08:46.of the age of the stations. So some stations may be possible. But not
:08:46. > :08:53.all the changes are appropriate. Once we have looked at the
:08:53. > :09:00.proposals in detail, will make our views known. The 4 million a year
:09:00. > :09:05.could be saved if these changes go ahead. 12 weeks remain for you to
