:00:09. > :00:12.Good evening and welcome to Look North. Tonight, we speak to the

:00:12. > :00:15.mother who says her daughter was a victim of an honour killing. She

:00:15. > :00:21.says her daughter Laura upset members of the Asian community and

:00:21. > :00:25.paid for it with her life. Also on the programme, it new

:00:25. > :00:29.warnings against plans to stop children's heart surgery in Leeds.

:00:29. > :00:32.A West Yorkshire MP says the care of youngsters across the north of

:00:32. > :00:35.inky -- England could be jeopardised.

:00:35. > :00:39.And the exact route of the Olympic torch in Yorkshire has been

:00:39. > :00:42.announced, with eight famous Bradford Road featuring along the

:00:42. > :00:46.way. I have told you good news,

:00:46. > :00:51.celebrate! We will celebrate, we will be here when it goes through,

:00:51. > :01:01.thank you very much! It has been a bright afternoon here,

:01:01. > :01:07.

:01:07. > :01:10.will skies stay bright this week? Good evening. The mother of a

:01:10. > :01:14.murdered Rotherham teenager says she believes her daughter was the

:01:14. > :01:18.victim of an honour killing. Because she had upset people in the

:01:18. > :01:21.town's Asian community. Laura Wilson was killed 18 months ago by

:01:21. > :01:25.her former boyfriend. Now her mother Margaret has spoken for the

:01:25. > :01:30.first time today as part of our investigation into so-called honour

:01:30. > :01:36.killings by the BBC's Panorama programme.

:01:36. > :01:42.Everybody misses her. We cannot get her back. At her resting place, a

:01:42. > :01:45.heartbroken mother remembers her mother did -- murdered daughter. 17

:01:45. > :01:49.year-old Laura Wilson, herself a mother of a baby daughter, was

:01:49. > :01:54.killed in a canal in Rotherham in 20th October 10. She had been held

:01:54. > :01:59.down in the water at knife point until she died. Laura's sexual

:01:59. > :02:04.relations with two Asian men, one of Herm -- one of them her killer,

:02:04. > :02:09.led to her murder. He was given a life sentence with a minimum of 17

:02:09. > :02:14.years. A friend of his had denied being the father of Laura's child.

:02:14. > :02:19.But she decided to confront both families. I do honestly think it

:02:19. > :02:26.was an honour killing. But in shame on the family, because she needed

:02:26. > :02:30.to be shut up. They needed to shut her up. And they did. Today, a

:02:30. > :02:34.senior Muslim spokesmen in Rotherham condemned any young

:02:34. > :02:39.British Asian men who advocate punishment of women involved in so-

:02:39. > :02:46.called dishonour. A young girl died, a terrible tragedy occurred and we

:02:46. > :02:48.fill the sympathy for her mother. This issue of forcing someone into

:02:48. > :02:54.marriage or and on a killing, or domestic violence, is absolutely

:02:54. > :03:01.unacceptable in any religion or culture. It is still as raw now as

:03:01. > :03:07.it was then. I try not to think about the attack, because I do know

:03:07. > :03:12.actually what was done to have. I try to block that out. They have

:03:12. > :03:17.never shown remorse, never. Rotherham's safeguarding children's

:03:17. > :03:23.board, who had been in contact with Laura Wilson when she became a

:03:23. > :03:29.target for all the men in the town, are due to report soon -- older men

:03:29. > :03:35.in the town, are due to suit -- due to report soon on the tragedy.

:03:35. > :03:44.You can see more on that's on panoramic -- Panorama at 8:30pm.

:03:44. > :03:46.A West Yorkshire MP says he has fresh evidence that plans to

:03:46. > :03:49.reorganise children's health services could damage health care

:03:49. > :03:52.across the North of England. Campaigners are fighting plans

:03:52. > :03:58.which could see the Leeds centre are being closed in favour of

:03:58. > :04:03.Newcastle. Toby is five years old and alive

:04:03. > :04:07.today because of a life-saving heart surgery at the Leeds General

:04:07. > :04:12.Infirmary. He's mother is worried about the future if the unit closes.

:04:12. > :04:16.Where has it gone? I have seen my child in intensive care, not

:04:16. > :04:21.knowing whether he will make it through the night. So the thought

:04:21. > :04:27.that that service that we have grown to trust and rely on could be

:04:27. > :04:30.taken away from us is just devastating. The NHS is looking to

:04:30. > :04:35.reorganise and improve children's hearts services...

:04:35. > :04:40.The NHS once a few hospitals carrying out more operations, says

:04:40. > :04:45.surgeon's skills are kept shop. Each centre marched carry out a

:04:45. > :04:52.minimum of 400 procedures a year, and in the north, this means either

:04:52. > :04:56.Newcastle or Leeds will close. An independent report warns that

:04:56. > :05:02.parents may choose to go elsewhere if one centre closes, leaving them

:05:02. > :05:04.less than the minimum numbers. It was assumed Toby would go to

:05:04. > :05:11.Newcastle if Leeds closed, but living in Wakefield, his parents

:05:11. > :05:15.had other ideas. I would like it to be my nearest unit, which would be

:05:15. > :05:19.Liverpool. I cannot see why they would think people from the

:05:19. > :05:25.Wakefield area would travel further than what they would need to.

:05:25. > :05:29.Toby's parents were not allow -- not alone, and questions are being

:05:29. > :05:33.asked about what would happen if Newcastle cannot reach 400

:05:33. > :05:37.operations purse -- per year. you close lease, and Newcastle does

:05:37. > :05:40.not have its figures, it do you close that? Then they only have one

:05:40. > :05:50.heart unit in the whole of the North of England, that is

:05:50. > :05:55.

:05:55. > :06:01.They say decisions will not be happening until all the evidence

:06:01. > :06:05.has been considered. Four patients like Toby, it is not clear when

:06:05. > :06:10.those decisions will be made, as the whole process is still being

:06:10. > :06:16.fought out in the Court. More and more people are choosing

:06:16. > :06:20.to set up their own business as unemployment nears a 17 year high,

:06:20. > :06:25.a study from the BBC shows. The number of companies overall in

:06:25. > :06:28.Leeds rose by 1500 in the past two years, three times the national

:06:28. > :06:34.average and the biggest increase in the country. Doncaster has seen the

:06:34. > :06:36.highest proportion of new start-up, with nearly 3000 new companies.

:06:36. > :06:42.Almost 5000 were started in Bradford, and across North

:06:42. > :06:45.Yorkshire, that figure was 8000. It is thought many of these

:06:45. > :06:49.entrepreneurs are like Jitesh Patel, who we featured last week, who

:06:49. > :06:52.started his own shop after failing to find work in banking. That comes

:06:53. > :07:02.ahead of a special Look North debate about the head state of our

:07:03. > :07:03.

:07:03. > :07:09.economy. The programme features all -- people from all works of life.

:07:09. > :07:17.My name is Bernie Coleman, I run a business cleaning stones. I

:07:17. > :07:20.currently employ eight people. From 2010 to 2011, our sales

:07:20. > :07:25.approximately doubled. On three occasions I went to my bank to say,

:07:25. > :07:30.look, I could do with a very short- term increase in my overdraft to

:07:30. > :07:35.cover wages and material purchases. For a few days. I said to them, I

:07:35. > :07:41.am looking for an extra 5,000 for five days. The response of all

:07:41. > :07:47.three occasions was no. Currently at would say it is his bad as it

:07:47. > :07:52.has been in my experience. You have got a triple whammy. If it is not

:07:52. > :07:57.regulation, if it is not the taxman, it is the banks. It is the whole

:07:57. > :08:03.burden on the back of small businesses. That makes it extremely

:08:03. > :08:09.difficult to move forward. programme is presented by Richard

:08:09. > :08:12.Bilton who drives me now. Some promising signs but some

:08:12. > :08:17.frustration? The figures are encouraging, in key areas in

:08:17. > :08:21.Yorkshire, Doncaster, Leeds and Bradford, there is a growth. What

:08:21. > :08:25.the figures do not show is the people who fail. They show the

:08:25. > :08:29.start-ups, but that does not show here goes wrong afterwards. There

:08:29. > :08:32.were a lot of people making the same point in the programme, it is

:08:32. > :08:39.tough for small businesses. They want more boys and more support.

:08:39. > :08:49.What was the mood in the debate? -- they want more of voice and more

:08:49. > :08:50.

:08:50. > :08:54.support. There was a lot of anger.. There were people from the economy

:08:54. > :08:58.and bankers and politicians. There were people getting very emotional

:08:58. > :09:04.about their point. This is a clip, Jim Smith, he is a teacher talking

:09:04. > :09:10.to Julian Smith, the Conservative MP. Why don't we concentrate on

:09:10. > :09:14.people who are evading tax? There is no need to shout. 1.1 million

:09:14. > :09:18.people have been taken out of tax by the coalition government. I am

:09:18. > :09:24.shouting because politicians and particularly the coalition are not

:09:24. > :09:28.listening. It is our fault. We all in this together. It is rubbish.

:09:28. > :09:33.But 1.1 million people have been taken out of tax by this government.

:09:33. > :09:43.A pretty heated exchange. We look forward to it. You can see Our

:09:43. > :09:47.

:09:47. > :09:51.Stay with us, later on the programme, we will be keeping up

:09:51. > :09:57.with charity fundraisers. They are peddling more than 100 miles in a

:09:57. > :10:03.Swan. We are joined by a Sheffield's Kell Brooke as he beats

:10:03. > :10:07.Hatton and is now looking to take on Amir Khan.

:10:07. > :10:11.We know the exact which the Olympic torch will take when it visits

:10:11. > :10:16.Yorkshire in June. We also know the names of the 600 people who have

:10:16. > :10:21.been chosen to carry it. Harry has been very energetic today you will

:10:21. > :10:25.see what I mean now! I should be dropping all the way

:10:25. > :10:29.through this, but I would! The torch will spend seven days in the

:10:29. > :10:35.auction, visiting 78 cities, towns and villages. If you want to know

:10:35. > :10:39.exactly where it the torch goes, goats to the BBC Olympic website.

:10:39. > :10:45.It is three days in North Yorkshire, cross and the moors and head into

:10:45. > :10:49.the coast on day one. On day two, it visits Haward house and

:10:49. > :10:53.Fountains Abbey, before arriving in York.

:10:53. > :10:58.I wonder if you can imagine the sight, the Olympic torch coming

:10:58. > :11:02.down these fantastic medieval walls of York. Than it takes in one of

:11:02. > :11:05.the greatest site in Europe, York Minster. After that, it goes along

:11:05. > :11:12.to the racecourse where there will be a massive party to welcome it.

:11:12. > :11:16.The next day, the Flying Scotsman is not running, but the Scots

:11:16. > :11:21.Guardsman is. The torch is transported up to Thirsk, then we

:11:21. > :11:23.enjoy the beauty of North Yorkshire, including this waterfall. It

:11:23. > :11:27.returned to Yorkshire three days later when it will take in West

:11:27. > :11:32.Yorkshire including Bradford. One of the streets it will travel down

:11:32. > :11:36.his Manningham Lane, where I grew up. I could not break -- weight to

:11:36. > :11:41.break the news. The Olympic torch is coming? Can I

:11:41. > :11:45.take it? I will be proud of it coming along here. It is fantastic,

:11:45. > :11:48.it is great for the Olympics and it will be good for the community to

:11:48. > :11:53.participate in any way they can. The Olympic torch is coming right

:11:53. > :12:00.past here. But is amazing, fantastic. You can see how amazing

:12:00. > :12:05.date -- excited they are. After going down Manningham Lane Lane and

:12:05. > :12:07.passing Bradford City, everyone moves on to Leeds and Temple Newsam

:12:07. > :12:11.for a free concert for 50,000 people.

:12:11. > :12:18.When it leaves Leeds the next you're -- morning, it will travel

:12:18. > :12:23.to South Yorkshire weather will be a huge party in Sheffield. Debjanee

:12:23. > :12:27.Chatterjee was chosen to carry the torch. She helps youngsters at

:12:27. > :12:32.hospital write poetry and she has put pen to paper for us.

:12:32. > :12:39.Torch-bearer. British Steel brought me to South

:12:39. > :12:46.Yorkshire, Sheffield made me a writer. A poet and storyteller.

:12:46. > :12:53.Sheffield made me a fighter, of injustice and cancer. Sheffield

:12:53. > :12:58.made me an Olympic torch bearer. Sheffield made me.

:12:58. > :13:01.The next day it will visit Rotherham and Doncaster, home to

:13:01. > :13:06.Ben Parkinson, who will carry the torch and his recovery has been an

:13:06. > :13:09.inspiration. Our final bids will be in Derbyshire. The torch will visit

:13:09. > :13:17.Chatsworth House. But find out whether it passes your front door,

:13:17. > :13:23.go to the website. We have mentioned the list of torch

:13:23. > :13:32.bearers, 600 of them in all, including Lord Coe and Paralympic

:13:32. > :13:36.hope for Helical Croft. And two Stephen Tomlinson and Aidan Dixon.

:13:36. > :13:40.What does it mean to you to be running part of that Olympic torch?

:13:40. > :13:47.It is amazing to be a torch-bearer. It is not something you get to do

:13:47. > :13:51.every day. It is a special moment and I am really excited about it.

:13:51. > :13:56.I know you have done lots of things for charity, but this is just a bit

:13:56. > :14:04.extra special? Yes, it will be a bit embarrassing

:14:04. > :14:09.if the torch went out! It will not happen.

:14:10. > :14:14.You are looking pretty in pink! You don't mind me saying that you are

:14:14. > :14:18.worried -- you were a bit of a bad lad at school, and it took a lot to

:14:18. > :14:24.turn things round. How have you done that?

:14:24. > :14:28.At the age of 15 I went to my local youth club to see if I could become

:14:28. > :14:32.a senior member, and they said yes, and at 16 they put be on to a

:14:32. > :14:36.volunteer, and then from there I went on. Because you have been

:14:36. > :14:41.excluded from school. It was not a great teenage time for you, but now

:14:41. > :14:44.you have been rewarded. What does it mean to you?

:14:44. > :14:49.It is fantastic, and it is nice to be recognised that I have changed

:14:49. > :14:53.my life around. It would be good if you could give

:14:53. > :15:01.Stephenson advice. What advice would you give when he has got that

:15:01. > :15:07.torch in his hand? Carry on running!

:15:07. > :15:14.I was saying to Stephen, how long do you run for? How long do you

:15:14. > :15:19.carry it for? No idea! You do not know at all.

:15:20. > :15:24.I have got no idea, just that we are doing it.

:15:24. > :15:28.Stephen is so fit and athletic, selected -- I did suggest he would

:15:28. > :15:34.do all 26 miles, but he did not agree.

:15:34. > :15:38.I do not want to do 26 miles. The crowds will be for not --

:15:38. > :15:42.phenomenal, and we hope and expect that lots and lots of people will

:15:42. > :15:46.come and watch this come past their front door.

:15:46. > :15:52.I hope they do, and it will be a great day. Everyone comes that sees

:15:52. > :15:56.I am sure they will. I have to say that you two have

:15:56. > :16:02.been chosen because of your inspirational stories, but there

:16:02. > :16:07.are another 598 we have not met who are equally as inspirational. You

:16:07. > :16:12.are going to shed a tear! It will be pretty emotional.

:16:12. > :16:16.It is going to be absolutely fantastic. It will be a once-in-a-

:16:16. > :16:20.lifetime opportunity. You have turned your life around,

:16:20. > :16:23.and everybody would say that. I hope it goes well.

:16:23. > :16:26.Time to have a look at the sport now.

:16:26. > :16:30.Let's start with a breaking news that Rotherham United have sacked

:16:30. > :16:36.their manager Andy Scott. He took charge at the end of last

:16:36. > :16:40.season after Ronnie Moore was fired. They lost as 2-1 at Oxford, leaving

:16:40. > :16:44.them eight points outside the play- offs and with little chance of

:16:44. > :16:49.promotion. But on a happier note, York City have earned a day out at

:16:49. > :16:53.Wembley after beating Luton Town in the semi-final of the FA Trophy.

:16:53. > :16:58.They were leading from the first leg, but were heading for extra

:16:58. > :17:01.time after Robbie Wilmott equalised. But then Matty Blair headed home a

:17:01. > :17:10.90th minute goal to take a Ziggy to their Wembley showdown with Newport

:17:10. > :17:14.County. -- take York City. It was a frustrating weekend for

:17:14. > :17:20.Alan Championship side. Doncaster and Barnsley lost, and

:17:20. > :17:25.Leeds were denied by a last-minute goal.

:17:25. > :17:32.It was a match of many tackles and few chances. Until the last 10

:17:32. > :17:36.minutes. That is when it Robert Snodgrass crossed, the ball was

:17:37. > :17:42.headed against the bar and Luciano Becchio found the net. But West Ham

:17:42. > :17:46.are hit back as Danny Collins climbed highest. If I am

:17:46. > :17:51.disappointed. That would have looked a lot better

:17:51. > :17:56.than what the table looks tonight. Barnsley have gone six games

:17:56. > :18:01.without a win after being thrashed 4-0 at Reading. The manager says

:18:01. > :18:06.his team on now in a relegation fight. But that certainly applies

:18:06. > :18:10.to Doncaster, whose goalkeeper went missing in action as Dolby went to

:18:10. > :18:17.-- went in front. El-Hadji Diouf scored in the second half, but they

:18:17. > :18:21.still lost. Sheffield Wednesday are) at the top

:18:21. > :18:28.of League One. They charged through the Notts County defence for their

:18:28. > :18:34.first, then the striker made some shooting room for himself to make

:18:34. > :18:39.it two. They are level on points with Sheffield United. They took

:18:39. > :18:45.the lead, Tranmere equalised in the second half to leave them second in

:18:45. > :18:49.the table on goal difference. This double save from a penalty

:18:49. > :18:55.kept Huddersfield in it at Colchester, before a last minute

:18:55. > :19:05.own goal net it was a draw, and Huddersfield stay for the.

:19:05. > :19:11.Chesterfield did a lot of teams a big favour by drawing with MK dons.

:19:11. > :19:19.In League Two, Bradford to store the bald head over the line as they

:19:19. > :19:23.lost by a single goal at Aldershot. They are getting better!

:19:23. > :19:27.Rugby league, and Wakefield lost out to Warrington yesterday.

:19:27. > :19:34.Vince Mellars scored in the corner later on, but the conversion was

:19:34. > :19:39.missed at Warrington held on two wins Cormac tone -- 32-30.

:19:39. > :19:42.You can see highlight on the Super League Show on BBC One tonight.

:19:42. > :19:48.This is good news for boxing, because Kell Brook continued his

:19:48. > :19:52.progress towards a shot at a world title with a remarkable win over

:19:52. > :19:57.the experienced at pretty tough Matthew Hatton.

:19:57. > :20:03.All three judges scored every round in his favour, in front of 10,000

:20:03. > :20:08.people. He could now get a world- title fight this year. A he joins

:20:09. > :20:17.us with his trainer. Someone tested in two said they were so excited

:20:17. > :20:25.that Kelly Brook was here, but that is not the case! In listen, you two,

:20:25. > :20:30.this is boxing! When you came out, 10,000 people in

:20:30. > :20:39.the arena, did the one of salad hit you?

:20:39. > :20:48.There was the intensity, it was amazing. -- that of wall of sound.

:20:48. > :20:53.I have got a little mark on my life. He did not get anywhere near you.

:20:53. > :20:59.No, not too much. I tried to duck and weave through it, but he was a

:20:59. > :21:06.very tough customer. Everyone said he won every single

:21:06. > :21:13.round, was that how you saw it? Yes, he may be true one round, I

:21:13. > :21:17.think Matthew through a couple of good shots, but he totally

:21:17. > :21:19.outclassed the guy at but in a fantastic performance. We are still

:21:19. > :21:24.getting the saying of comments that these people are not good enough,

:21:24. > :21:31.the people he was fighting. You really did dominate ride from

:21:31. > :21:35.the start. The but when you put him down, he got up, and we were saying,

:21:35. > :21:39.how on earth has he got up from that Punch?

:21:39. > :21:44.He got up. He did, and fought for three more

:21:44. > :21:52.rounds. You have to take your hat off to

:21:52. > :21:56.him. He is as tough as old boots to. One of the things you have got to
