:00:26. > :00:34.This evening detectives are questioning a man and a woman after

:00:34. > :00:38.a baby girl died in hospital overnight. The focus of the

:00:38. > :00:41.investigation is on this flat. Also making the news this evening.

:00:41. > :00:45.A narrow escape for a party of 10. The birthday balloon flight from

:00:45. > :00:48.York that crashed into 66,000 volt power lines in strong winds.

:00:48. > :00:56.And we meet the girls of steam, all fired up and ready to entertain

:00:56. > :01:01.Chesterfield this weekend. And we look at a salary rather continuing

:01:01. > :01:11.throughout the weekend, we will have the full forecast later in the

:01:11. > :01:12.

:01:12. > :01:17.Good evening. Police have launched a murder inquiry after a seven-

:01:17. > :01:20.week-old baby girl died at Pinderfields Hospital overnight.

:01:20. > :01:22.She was taken there yesterday with serious injuries from her home in

:01:22. > :01:30.Pontefract. Our West Yorkshire reporter is in Pontefract this

:01:30. > :01:35.evening. What more can you tell us? The seven-week-old baby was taken

:01:35. > :01:39.by ambulance from this house suffering from what police

:01:39. > :01:45.described as serious injuries. They have confirmed that she died in the

:01:45. > :01:49.early hours of this morning, around 3am. They have not specified

:01:49. > :01:53.precisely what those injuries are. They have said that an 18-year-old

:01:53. > :01:57.woman and a 20-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of

:01:57. > :02:06.murder although police will not confirm what their relationship is

:02:06. > :02:09.to the baby. Inquiries into exactly what happened are ongoing as those

:02:09. > :02:14.people are continuing to be questioned this evening.

:02:14. > :02:22.What has been the reaction in the area?

:02:22. > :02:26.It has been one of disbelief. This is a normal, residential area with

:02:26. > :02:36.a mixture of house is beyond me, most of them in good condition.

:02:36. > :02:43.This is a nice, quiet neighbourhood. People say they are really stunned.

:02:43. > :02:48.One of the neighbours had seen an ambulance pullup and and I don't

:02:48. > :02:51.know if they had be flashing lights or anything. Do you know the

:02:51. > :02:55.people? I have only spoken to them once but

:02:55. > :03:00.they have kept themselves really to themselves.

:03:00. > :03:04.The police are still standing guard outside the property tonight. They

:03:04. > :03:08.say inquiries into what happened are on going to night and no

:03:08. > :03:12.further information is expected but tonight, in this quiet

:03:12. > :03:14.neighbourhood, people are coming to terms with the death of a young

:03:15. > :03:17.girl. A group of balloonists have escaped

:03:17. > :03:21.injury after their hot-air balloon came down on power-lines near Selby

:03:21. > :03:27.this morning. The pilot and his nine passengers had taken off from

:03:27. > :03:30.York racecourse and crashed about an hour into their flight.

:03:30. > :03:40.The balloon company has blamed strong winds as the pilot tried to

:03:40. > :03:41.

:03:41. > :03:47.land. An investigation has begun Anything but a safe landing for the

:03:47. > :03:51.passengers on board this so-called pleasure flight. They left your cat

:03:51. > :03:56.have passed seven this morning. The balloon travelled around 20 miles

:03:56. > :03:59.and weather conditions were fair. But the landing did not go quite as

:03:59. > :04:03.planned. I have spoken to the pilot and he

:04:03. > :04:10.tells me he was planning to land the balloon just here by the road

:04:10. > :04:14.but sadly it was not to be and the wind carried them in this direction,

:04:14. > :04:18.missing the fishing pond but hitting the power line.

:04:18. > :04:23.It was just before 9am that the balloon landed here, just a few

:04:24. > :04:28.miles from Selby. This man's of the drama unfold.

:04:28. > :04:33.I saw them landing near the roadside but obviously, it went

:04:33. > :04:38.down just before the rot but then it went up, and it hit a barbed-

:04:38. > :04:42.wire fence near the road, and then it went over the bank and I lost

:04:42. > :04:46.sight of it but they obviously drifted over into the power lines

:04:46. > :04:52.but as you can see, they have been very lucky.

:04:52. > :04:56.The power lines carry 66,000 volts. But the electricity supply would

:04:56. > :05:03.have disconnected as the balloon hit the wire.

:05:03. > :05:09.It is a big job. These lines are 66,000 bolts and it is a long feet

:05:09. > :05:13.from Ferrybridge to Selby. We have that overheads lined dead now. An

:05:13. > :05:17.engineer will out those lines and then they will start to take the

:05:17. > :05:21.balloon away. We body was available for comment

:05:21. > :05:25.from the company that runs the flight but in a statement they said

:05:25. > :05:29.there was an increase in surface winds on landing and that nobody on

:05:29. > :05:34.board was injured. It is not the first time an accident like this

:05:34. > :05:39.has happened. Earlier this week, three people were rescued after

:05:39. > :05:45.their Bolan crashed into power lines. An investigation is now

:05:45. > :05:47.under way. A lucky escape.

:05:47. > :05:50.Coming up on Look North: Embarking on yet another epic bit

:05:50. > :05:57.of fundraising. Jane Tomlinson's family start by pounding the

:05:57. > :06:00.The family of a referee who died just minutes after a football match

:06:00. > :06:05.ended are raising money to buy life-saving machines that can help

:06:05. > :06:07.people having a heart attack. Roger Evans, who was 59 and from

:06:07. > :06:12.Dronfield, collapsed three weeks ago and despite attempts to revive

:06:12. > :06:18.him he died on the pitch. Unlike in the case of the Bolton midfielder

:06:18. > :06:28.Fabrice Muambe, there was no defibrillator on site. Here's our

:06:28. > :06:32.

:06:32. > :06:37.I had only seen him on Wednesday morning, told him I loved him and

:06:37. > :06:41.then I got a call on Saturday evening telling me what happened.

:06:41. > :06:46.Roger Evans died from a massive heart attack just moments after

:06:46. > :06:50.blowing the final whistle. His daughter now wants to raise money

:06:50. > :06:53.to provide life-saving the Fairbridge letters to local

:06:53. > :07:01.football grounds in South Yorkshire. We want to make sure people get

:07:01. > :07:04.medical care as soon as they can. It is an issue that has been in the

:07:04. > :07:09.headlines since this Bolton player suffered a cardiac arrest on the

:07:09. > :07:14.field. Expired medics spent six minutes resuscitating him before he

:07:14. > :07:21.was rushed to a hospital, where he is now making a recovery.

:07:21. > :07:25.It showed how important it is to get urgent medical attention.

:07:25. > :07:30.Fred Owen is the regional training manager for St John Ambulance. He

:07:30. > :07:34.says that modern machines that offer step-by-step instructions can

:07:34. > :07:37.be used by anyone and make a big difference.

:07:37. > :07:44.If you employee it straight away, within a couple of minutes, there

:07:44. > :07:53.is an up to 80% chance of survival. My daughter is it you were sold and

:07:53. > :07:57.she can use 80 fibber later. Each unit costs 1,000 and the

:07:57. > :08:04.family are being supported by the local FA who have already pledged

:08:04. > :08:08.eight machines. The difference between these cases

:08:08. > :08:15.was that there was medical aid available at the professional

:08:15. > :08:20.grounds but here there was not. The family now hope to raise enough

:08:20. > :08:24.money to buy the machines that of the grounds and games.

:08:24. > :08:29.He loved it, he really enjoyed working with the small teams and he

:08:29. > :08:32.will be much missed, he was much loved.

:08:32. > :08:35.In other news now and South Yorkshire Police has been told by

:08:35. > :08:38.its governing body that it can keep running its own helicopter for ten

:08:38. > :08:41.hours each day. The decision was discussed at today's police

:08:41. > :08:44.authority meeting where it was also confirmed that the role of

:08:44. > :08:48.community support officers will be enhanced. PCSOs will now become the

:08:48. > :08:51.public's first line of contact with the police. Meanwhile South

:08:51. > :09:00.Yorkshire's helicopter can stay at Sheffield's airbase but it will be

:09:00. > :09:05.used part-time along with the shared regional helicopter.

:09:05. > :09:08.We would have liked to have a helicopter based 24 hours a day in

:09:08. > :09:14.South Yorkshire but given the recent proposal and given that we

:09:14. > :09:19.still have 24-hour cover, albeit that will not be from our local

:09:19. > :09:25.based on some occasions, the chief inspector is advising that from an

:09:25. > :09:29.operational point of view that the balance of this does not increase.

:09:29. > :09:32.A man from Pudsey has been jailed along with three other men for an

:09:32. > :09:34.attempted fraud which involved two people posing as rich Arab sheiks.

:09:34. > :09:38.Mortgage broker Jonathan Flynn was jailed for four-and-a-half years

:09:38. > :09:41.after admitting conspiracy to defraud. The four men pretended to

:09:41. > :09:48.own a 6 million home in an attempt to secure a 1.5 million loan from

:09:48. > :09:53.In other news now, and police have described vandalism of a medieval

:09:53. > :09:56.hospital in York as a disgusting attack on York's heritage. Graffiti

:09:56. > :10:06.has been sprayed and written on a wall of St Leonard's Hospital in

:10:06. > :10:09.

:10:09. > :10:13.the museum gardens. Ten years ago to Jane Tomlinson, a mother from

:10:13. > :10:20.Leeds, ran the London Marathon. It was remarkable because she had

:10:20. > :10:24.terminal cancer. Since her death in 2007, her family have continued are

:10:24. > :10:30.bracing work -- her amazing work, raising millions of Pounds for

:10:30. > :10:36.charity. This week, there will be attempting the most ambitious

:10:36. > :10:41.challenge yet. Her doctor has been looking back on her mother's

:10:41. > :10:47.achievements and will be asking how her mum's life changed the way

:10:47. > :10:52.people look at cancer. Ten years ago, I came to what my

:10:52. > :10:56.mum on the London Marathon. It was the start of an incredible journey.

:10:56. > :11:01.It was a journey that swept us all up and I know that what she did it

:11:01. > :11:11.made a difference to other people's lives. People like 25-year-old

:11:11. > :11:15.Gemma, diagnosed with thyroid cancer last summer. Her treatment

:11:15. > :11:21.was the Tomlinson treatment. My doctor tells me to exercise all

:11:21. > :11:26.the time, she is constantly telling me to exercise. Because if you are

:11:26. > :11:34.stronger, I think you can get through it easier.

:11:34. > :11:39.Gemma is not unusual. Last year, research showing the benefits of

:11:39. > :11:45.physical activity beside cancer treatment was published.

:11:45. > :11:49.There have been powerful evidence showing that moderate amount of

:11:49. > :11:58.exercise will reduce the chance of cancer coming back and reduce the

:11:58. > :12:08.chance of developing heart disease, then bones or by ADT's later.

:12:08. > :12:13.Keeping healthy, keeping a positive and changing perceptions was

:12:13. > :12:17.important to my mum. What's will the a far and to raise

:12:17. > :12:22.-- what will the funds are raised to do for this house?

:12:22. > :12:27.We are hoping to make this area a multi- sensory room.

:12:27. > :12:32.Organisations like this respite facility have benefited. It is

:12:32. > :12:39.humbling to see the impact the money has had and it is the reason

:12:39. > :12:45.that carried on. You have to accept this is the path

:12:45. > :12:53.we chose, and it is the path I am choosing to stay on now. I could

:12:53. > :12:57.walk away but I would feel like I was not doing the right thing in

:12:57. > :13:03.terms of June. I just decided, enough is enough.

:13:03. > :13:09.And so, we keeper single and it's as she would have done.

:13:09. > :13:15.Let's find out more about that challenge. They will starts with a

:13:15. > :13:21.Paris marathon, cycle through France, and then get the ferry to

:13:21. > :13:25.Hull, before mounting their bikes again and riding back to London,

:13:25. > :13:35.and then another marathon next weekend.

:13:35. > :13:39.They are incredible. We caught up It is almost as if your mum said

:13:39. > :13:45.the standard by how cancer should be treated. She defied everything.

:13:45. > :13:48.I don't think she ever envisaged it to change people's perception on

:13:48. > :13:53.how you should be dealing with cancer, but I think it was her way

:13:53. > :13:59.of dealing with it, and if it helps other people, and has encouraged

:13:59. > :14:05.other people to take up sport or activity, that is great. We heard

:14:05. > :14:10.the 25-year-old was saying it to her, I am running as much as I can,

:14:10. > :14:15.I am fighting it, do you believe that the sort of sport and the

:14:15. > :14:20.running and cycling is almost like a defiant over cancer, that is what

:14:20. > :14:24.Jane proved? I don't think it was defiance, I did it was her way of

:14:24. > :14:32.defining her life could be that she wasn't a cancer patient, it was

:14:32. > :14:36.part of her life, a small part of her life. She was like, I'm living

:14:36. > :14:40.my life, I'm not defined by it. Let's talk about the training,

:14:40. > :14:43.because you two are very competitive with each other. There

:14:43. > :14:49.is no lot of lost when it comes to getting on a bike or starting to

:14:49. > :14:57.run. -- no love lost. Who is better prepared? That is better prepared

:14:57. > :15:03.than the! I am an awful shape! I haven't run for months, I it no she

:15:03. > :15:08.hasn't done a great deal. We were saying earlier, she had

:15:08. > :15:16.chemotherapy, Jane, we are fit and healthy, we have no excuse. We have

:15:16. > :15:25.to get to the start lines and socket up. We should be drinking

:15:25. > :15:31.water, I said to her, have a beer. That would keep you going! Red wine

:15:31. > :15:39.keeps her going! You have got one major injury. The Iron Lady has

:15:39. > :15:44.gone as well. But she can do it on one leg. She's a professional

:15:44. > :15:54.athlete. You've got a professional athlete, then you have the has-

:15:54. > :15:55.

:15:55. > :16:02.beens and never beens, like us. don't think she agrees! I think she

:16:02. > :16:07.is thinking, I speak for yourself, bad! And then have to meet! You are

:16:07. > :16:13.looking forward to this, in a bizarre sort of way? I think you

:16:13. > :16:18.said those words, not meet! I am just looking forward to coming Team

:16:19. > :16:23.Yorkshire next Wednesday morning, and cycling through it. I'm looking

:16:23. > :16:27.forward to getting to Leeds next Wednesday night, and I think the

:16:27. > :16:35.poignant moment for us will be doing the London Marathon, opinions

:16:35. > :16:40.on. I'm waiting for that day, to be perfectly honest. As long as we do

:16:40. > :16:48.Paris and get back over and done with, and get on the bike. And then

:16:49. > :16:54.all the rest. We wish you well. We are constantly amazed, words cannot

:16:54. > :17:02.describe admiration, but I hope those trainers don't give you a

:17:02. > :17:08.blister. Can I help you out of the studio?

:17:08. > :17:10.You don't know what to say. Just an incredible family. They have raised

:17:10. > :17:13.3 million so far, and they keep going.

:17:13. > :17:23.Before 7pm: It's David versus Goliath - can Featherstone relive

:17:23. > :17:23.

:17:23. > :17:28.their rugby league glories of old And join me later, I will be

:17:28. > :17:34.reporting from a steam rally in Chesterfield. It is not just this

:17:34. > :17:36.one! On to football, and I hope I won't

:17:36. > :17:40.see Doncaster relegated tomorrow when they play Portsmouth. But it

:17:40. > :17:46.could be a grim weekend for them and Chesterfield, depending on what

:17:46. > :17:49.happens tomorrow. But at the top of League One, the two Sheffield sides

:17:49. > :17:53.are still scrapping for the same automatic promotion spot. Wednesday

:17:53. > :17:56.took the initiative with a win at home to Oldham on Easter Monday.

:17:56. > :18:05.But United put five past Rochdale the following day and are back in

:18:05. > :18:09.second place. Both managers say they're trying to ignore the hype.

:18:09. > :18:13.We are not looking at anybody else. We have got a real focus on

:18:13. > :18:18.ourselves at the moment. Other people will keep looking at the

:18:18. > :18:23.teams around us and giving these scenarios, we can just say, we

:18:23. > :18:27.needed to win. If we do, the rest will look after itself. We feel

:18:27. > :18:33.strong, we know we have to earn the right, nobody is going to give us

:18:33. > :18:38.anything, so we know that Sheffield Wednesday is going to be a big

:18:38. > :18:43.scalp for other teams, so every game we play is like a cup final.

:18:43. > :18:47.We were watching intensely! Good job they didn't catch us out!

:18:47. > :18:53.It's one of the weekends we cherish - the fourth round of the greatest

:18:53. > :18:56.rugby league competition. This is the stage where the Super League

:18:56. > :18:58.clubs join in giving a chance to teams from outside the top

:18:58. > :19:01.competition to claim a valuable scalp.

:19:01. > :19:04.And you cannot do better then the local derby between Featherstone

:19:04. > :19:14.Rovers and Castleford the old "battle of the pits". Ian Bucknell

:19:14. > :19:16.

:19:16. > :19:20.The pits around Featherstone used to produce not just coal but heroes

:19:20. > :19:24.of rugby league. This is a true heartland of the sport, and a club

:19:24. > :19:29.with a proud history. In the modern era, Rovers have never made the

:19:29. > :19:33.Super League grade, but passion for the sport runs deep here. This

:19:33. > :19:37.weekend, Featherstone Rovers play Castleford in the Challenge Cup.

:19:37. > :19:41.They have taken the morning off work to prepare for their poor time

:19:41. > :19:45.opponents. It is pretty hard for some of the players, they have

:19:45. > :19:50.quite a demanding job, whereas Castleford will have twice as many

:19:50. > :19:54.weights sessions, it will be a close-knit team, but we probably

:19:54. > :20:00.don't train half as much. We would like to think we are as close knit

:20:00. > :20:04.a team as them and we will give it a shot. Featherstone has a proud

:20:04. > :20:10.pedigree in the Challenge Cup. Their last success was in 1983, but

:20:10. > :20:16.they first won it in 1967, led by inspirational coaching featured in

:20:16. > :20:20.a BBC documentary at the time. coach is famous for his exploits in

:20:20. > :20:25.the 1952 final, went after he rub- down with brandy and rum, he played

:20:25. > :20:30.with pneumonia. They don't make them like him any more, but they do

:20:30. > :20:36.have a distinguished leader. He won the Cup as a Leeds rhinos. He knows

:20:36. > :20:39.what would be League means so much to both clubs. This is a big

:20:39. > :20:46.working-class area, so there has been a lot of pits around this area

:20:46. > :20:52.that have all gone now, and rugby league is a tough sport for tough

:20:52. > :20:57.people. That is the sort of people you have around this area.

:20:57. > :21:02.Featherstone is a club with a proud past about it is hungry for a

:21:02. > :21:12.future in the Superleague. A shock win tomorrow would be a good start,

:21:12. > :21:25.

:21:25. > :21:28.a chance that the glory days it And may I say, they don't make

:21:28. > :21:31.commentators like that anymore! And tomorrow's Grand National has a

:21:31. > :21:36.Yorkshire runner that could provide a fairy tale for its owner Peter

:21:36. > :21:39.Nelson. According To Pete was bred by Peter Nelson on a one acre scrap

:21:39. > :21:45.of land next to his garage in Helperby, before moving to Malcolm

:21:45. > :21:53.Jefferson's training yard in Malton. Now with odds at 25-1, he's being

:21:53. > :21:59.tipped for success by some pundits. I have got a couple of pounds on it

:21:59. > :22:04.myself! It is a dream. It is a magnificent achievement. I don't

:22:04. > :22:10.come here expecting to win, I hope we win, but I come here hoping it

:22:10. > :22:16.gets round OK and get home okay. it wins, it would just be

:22:16. > :22:23.unbelievable. I can't even think about it! He is the most fantastic

:22:23. > :22:27.chap. He does a paper round. The local newsagents closed, he says,

:22:27. > :22:30.if the horse went, people have got to go to the garage and pick up

:22:30. > :22:33.their own papers. One of the country's biggest steam

:22:33. > :22:36.events got underway near Chesterfield today. Around 15,000
